a while back i looked and the deadline i believe for applying for a bear license is may 5th. when do you think a guy can get them in?????????
kinda interested just for conversation what ya like to use fer bait.

whats the best bait??? ther isnt one..its what ever yu can find for free or reasonable amount of money. if your in a high density area, youll have alot.of.compition. he with the freshest usually wins. pluse a variety is extreamly helpful to not cause bait burnout.
natural bait is awsome, trail mix.granola.types, oats.
sweets are a must, and pretty much any sweet stuff works. what ever u can get ur hand on.
picker bait is a good.thing, like popcorn, skittles, gummies of any kind
and so on.
secrete bait?? what ever u use that gives u confidence.
my bait first i open a site with about 50 gal. of fryer grease.
i have barrels.of rolled.oats,
peanut butter
carmel
trail mix
granola, cherry flavored to
pop tarts
cookies
2 barrels.of burnt honey
500 lbs of.lqourice.
500.lbs of.doughnuts.left.
pails.of.frosting..i use as needed and mix thing up.a bit. i love the baiting more.than any thing!!

we had been keeping it in a locked shed. it just had a dirt floor. for a long time it was ok, then a skunk found it. now we keep it in a steel bin where we keep our smaller outboard motors. we usually try to only bring enough up to bait for the amount of time we are up there to bait.

:happy1: :happy1: i googled them after he gave me the name!!!! just a little out of my way up to the cabin. i may check them out. while on there site i seen Wheezy outdoors commented, there a young couple, Justin and Alice, some eye candy :happy1: that guides up in the grand rapids area use them for bait. he used to work at the faculity we organized in rapids.
been thinking of buying oats and mixing with grease and molasses to switch bait around.

I had some leftover bait in a steel barrel with locking ring. Over the years they would roll it around and down a hill but last year they broke into it.
Like Boar said, a lot of different things work but I do agree nothing beats Jelly Donuts! Also, give them something to play with. :rotflmao:

Bear hunt applications available; deadline is May 3
Applications for bear hunting licenses are being accepted now through Friday, May 3, wherever Minnesota hunting and fishing licenses are sold, online at mndnr.gov/buyalicense, and by telephone at 888-665-4236.
A total of 3,400 licenses are available in 13 permit areas. Bear licenses cost $44 for residents and $230 for nonresidents, and there is a $5 application fee. The 2019 season is open from Sunday, Sept. 1, through Sunday, Oct. 13.
Lottery winners will be notified by June 1. The deadline to purchase licenses awarded by lottery will be Thursday, Aug. 1. Any remaining unpurchased licenses will be available over the counter starting at noon on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
An unlimited number of bear licenses will be sold over-the-counter for the no-quota area that includes east-central and far northwestern Minnesota. No-quota licenses are valid only in the no-quota area. Hunters with a no-quota license can harvest one bear.
The DNR has set 2019 bear permit numbers for quota areas to allow bear population numbers to gradually increase and support a robust bear population.
Bear hunting information is available on the DNR website at mndnr.gov/hunting/bear.

too funny you just posted this. i just printed most the info off the DNR website. i did check yesterday at the place i get my licenses and they didnt have any info.
i did email them because they didnt have, or i couldnt find the permit qoutas. they replied within a minutes. #27 fer me!!!!!!

my son and I have been discussing this for a few years, successful of not, this might be our last time chasing bears. he has no interest in doing anything with the hide. I have asked around and really haven't found anyone that will take it. I seriously believe the hide is a trophy and have an issue just tossing it.
I have no interest any more either. I have a rug, shoulder mount and I had 3 pillows made out of 2 hides. actually my first rug went to crap so I had another made.
the meat we have summer sausage, pepper stick and hot dogs made. so that does not go to waste. think this year i'm going to do more jerky out of it!!!!!!

I gave some away quite a few years ago. I do have one hanging on a wall at Camp Near and Deer. I gave a friend who is working on taxidermy with a real taxidermy guy the one on got last year. I haven't heard what happened to it yet.

Well, I managed to snag me a surplus bear tag yesterday. So, what are your thoughts on the new rule for using drums and paying the extra $5 per drum? At first I thought the dirty crooks. But now I am thinking that I am going to use the barrels. I figure then I won't have to bait as often saving me a lot of gas money. I will make up the $15 in a hurry.

never really thought about it much. guess when you put it that way it makes sense. but we'll do it the same way. i havent had much of a chance to head to the cabin much so i'll enjoy my time up there. pretty good rush walking in and seeing them logs thrown apart when a bear gets to the bait. :happy1:

i think boar does to as well as deadeye. i havent paid alot of attention to how they get used??? you bring a barrel out to a spot, fill it up and let Yogi and Boo Boo have at it?????????? dont they carry it off??????????

I used my torch and cut a hole about 8" diameter for them to reach into. I grind it smooth too so the bear isn't getting cut by sharp edges. Then I cut two 2" diameter holes near the top to run the chain through to keep it on that tree. They can reach into the 8" hole easily and get a meal. Takes them a long time too.

I have heard lots of people around here say they have seen more bears than ever.
We seen 1 last week. The population is coming back up for sure. But that was the DNR's goal when they lowered the number of tags for hunters.

got back from round 2 of feeding da bears...…...no Lee not them. :doah: :confused:
sat we had 4 of 6 baits hit. sunday 3 of 6. like I posted in dakids post. I watched a big ol bear clean out my bait...…..at 10 am. things look promising. good thing I remembered all the advice dakids posted about bear hunting all these years!!!!!!!
did a little fishing Friday evening, they all swim for another day!!!!!!!

OK so I know for a fact i'm gonna be setting myself up for a whole rash of sheet but...…….bring it.
I've been planning some stradegy about dis bear I seen. I want him bad!!!!!!! :fudd: :fudd: so here is the deal and I want some opinions on this. shuddup boar!!!!!!!! :moon: :moon: :rotflmao:
so the bait he's at, I have a bait station that got hit a bit over a mile to the east. if this bear is hitting that one he has to cross a county road. this one isn't always hit but it has activity. I have another bait north i'd say within a mile that's been hit every time we rebaiting and from the get go. what are the chances this is the same bear.
so my plan is to maybe just bait the one bait I plan on hunting on and not rebait the other 2.
what would you guys think or do??????????

lmao. if you really want this bear, im gonna have to come and kill it for you. 1zt question, why are yur baits so close together? chances are good hes hiting all 3 if. ther only a mile apart. id check out that county road and see if any large animalnis paddi g down the ditch grass if hes crossing. 2nd queztion. is ther a pattern seeing a bear at 1 site but nuthi g on the other 2 then flip floping? if you see a patern that sugest it then i would keep hiz favorite goi g and shut down the 2. but if u dont see a pattern yur riskin it. and finnly im really gona have to come and kill this bear for ya

no pattern, the main site and the one to the north are being hit every time we bait. i'm pretty sure i'm not rebaiting the one to the east.
we have shot bear in the same year off the main bait and to the one to the north.
by a pattern whadda mean.

27 the cabin area. i believe 28 is the reservation boundries!!!!! i know i cannot head to far west and i am out of 27. so the fartherest west we are is way back behind the spring lake store!!!!!!!! and that baits getting hit consistently!!!!!!

I have a couple of skulls here too. I put one in a crayfish trap and dropped it in the river for awhile. The other I put on a big anthill with a fence around it like for a tree.

kinda I agree, but if there in the area they'll come. They already know where the easy meal is. I don't doubt they periodically check in between times.we have done this in the past and been successful. If we don't get one this weekend we will start over and hunt the last weekend of the season. As it gets closer to them going ni-nite, they get a little more active feeding, especially when there natural foods supply starts dwindling.
