A couple weeks ago I harvested 2 maple burls and a white oak burl. I brought them over to a friend of Deadeye's. He turns them on his lathe and made a few bowls. I found it very interesting and fun to watch an artist at work.

I was going to ask him about that when he posted the other pics. ...I love bowls made out of burls. Had one at one time, and sold it. :angry: Those are just so cool!!! :happy1:

Sweet! so thats what those big lumps are called on my silver maple,really nice work making those bowls how does he seal the wood so the bowls don't crack as they dry n age?

Only turns them down to 3/4 inch thick.He puts something on them. Sprays or brushes it on, don't remember which and let's dry 2 or 3 months. He will then turn them the rest of the way down.

We saw a huge one about the size of a garbage can lid on an old Oak in our hunting area that we talked about for years. They logged off that part of the woods last year! :pouty:

He also turns handles out of burls and spalted wood. Hear are a few. He get 75 to 100 each. I don't remember for sure what if was but to rich for me.
