Way cool Rebs! Our band director when I was in grade school was a belly gunner on a B-17.  :happy1:

Two of my uncles were on 'forts...one a bombardier, the other a radio operator. Worst spot was that belly gunner. Many died when they were stuck in there from damage and plane had to land with wheels stuck in up position....adios, pal.

I finally watched that.  How cool would that be.  They must have been almost giddy when they poured oil in it and it actually worked!

It looks like it would have been really hard to hit enemy fighters from one of those belly guns.
