Can you small game hunt with a pellet gun of any caliber in the state of Minnesota? It doesn't say in the 2009 hunting regulations book either....

A pellet/BB gun is classified as a "firearm" in MN according to statutes (and probably most other states, too). So legally a pellet gun shoud be OK, but you should call a DNR Conservation Officer and ask if you have any uncertainties or need specific clarification. Contact info is in your 2009 regulation book or on the MN DNR website.

Personally, I think any .177 or larger caliber pellet gun would be fine for most small game as long as it had sufficient velocity (nothing under 500fps, 700+ is better), your distance was not over 30yds, and shot placement was proper (eg: head shots) for a clean kill. I used pellet guns for years as a kid hunting small game with great success.
