:reporter; ...Wolf hunting season closes in northeast Wisconsin. :fudd:

 :coffee: .....
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has closed wolf hunting and trapping in Wolf Harvest Zone 2, in northeastern Wisconsin, effective at noon today. At that time, the zone will be closed to hunting and trapping of wolves for the rest of the 2014-15 wolf harvest season.

Wisconsin’s wolf hunting and trapping season opened Oct. 15. Each of the state’s six wolf zones has a maximum harvest quota. When that quota is reached or is about to be reached, the zone is closed. Zone 2 had a harvest quota of 15. As of Friday, 12 wolves had been taken in Zone 2.

The Zone 2 closure is the first of the season. Hunting and trapping of wolves continues in Zones 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6.

The quota for Zone 1 — which includes all or part of Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, Washburn, Sawyer, Price and Rusk counties — is 32 wolves. Hunters and trappers had taken 10 as of Friday afternoon.

The quota for Zone 3 — which includes parts of Washburn, Sawyer and Burnett counties — is 40 wolves. Hunters and trappers had taken just one as of Friday afternoon.

For more information, go to dnr.wi.gov. It is each hunter and trapper’s responsibility to verify and abide by zone closures. The department encourages hunters and trappers to check the website and call-in number daily.
