:police: Aitkin man goes overboard dies

.

 :reporter; ..
AITKIN - A 77-year-old Aitkin man died Saturday afternoon while fishing on Farm Island Lake south of Aitkin, the Aitkin County Sheriff's Officer reported.

 :coffee: .......
Kenneth Arnold Pomeroy was a passenger fishing from a boat when a wave hit the boat, causing Pomeroy to go overboard. Pomeroy was wearing a lifejacket, but was reported to have been underwater for 30-45 seconds. Resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

Autopsy results are pending with the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office.

The incident remains under investigation by the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office. The South Aitkin First Responders, North Memorial Ambulance Service and the Minnesota DNR Enforcement assisted the sheriff's office with the incident.

So sad to hear, especially since he was wearing his life jacket.  My condolences to his family.

People need to be aware of other boaters when moving about on the lake.  I actually sent a formal complaint to the DNR this morning about people speeding on Lake Itasca this past opener (there's a posted 10mph speed limit there).  If you're going to go fast, please do so when you are far away from everyone else.  Buzzing by at 30-40 mph within 50 yards of other boats is not only dangerous but in my opinion very disrespectful.  If you do it to me, expect a one finger salute.
