I forgot that i took a few pictures 3 weeks ago of our 3 acre food plot. This is our 1st time planting corn up north. It's roundup ready corn so next weekend we will be spraying the weeds. Anybody else plant corn?

Yup, I planted some corn and already sprayed it. The turkeys got most of it before it came up, but I will still get a good crop.

dakids, your up by remer right????? not to many corn fields up that way but there are some. one would think the critters would have a field day with corn before the deer can actually eat any of the corn??????

Yes it is near remer. Hopefully there will be enough to last until the snow flies.  The main reason for the corn is to reduce the weed seeds over the next 2 or 3 years so when we go back to a brasica we dont have a huge weed issue. In early sept i plan on adding rye grain or winter wheat between the rows so when the corn is gone there will still be food available.

Always thinking there dakids.  The deer and other critters must be just sitting around waiting for you to plant something for their lunch. :whistling:

I do have 4 laying hens that will need corn over the winter. I know they are safe from the chopping block because I've seen the fish you guys are posting.

Sprayed the weeds in our corn over the weekend.  They will be dead very soon and the corn will start to grow faster.

The 2 acres of corn on our land is looking the best it has in years.  We rotate the plot with beans and flip each year.  Should be another good crop around the states with all this rain.

Now I have to hope the deer come in to eat more.

the farmer we lease our land out for crops planted corn again this year and it looked great when I was up there. the only bad part I don't like about it is we have in the contract that it has to be out by deer firearms opener and it has yet to happen. the year before last he was out cutting the night before opener but left the rest. last year was beans and it was great. but not to big of a fan of the standing corn on our land when its firearms season because the deer just stay in it.

I have heard that standing corn is a popular place for bears to hang out as well.   I talked with a farmer that said he would scoop up a couple every fall.

Checked the corn yesterday to see if the spray killed all the weeds. Most weeds were dead and the corn was waist high which is great considering that we haven't had any rain. The inch we got last night should help corn grow a lot in the next couple of weeks.

Was up at the land today and checked the corn field.  20 plus deer ran out as I walked in.  Only about 20% of the cobs are left.

Welcome back.  Don't be a stranger.  Hopefully the deer have put on enough fat to make it through the rest of the winter.
