Man do I wish I was really stupid.  I'm stupid but not really stupid.

I was just down at Lake Minnetonka after meeting someone and I sat and read a book for about an hour sitting in a chair.  Sure it's a perfect day but all it made me think of is being a fishing guide.  If I could just blindly and stupidly up and do it I'd be so happy, and broke, and eventually irritated with people who broke my stuff, and broke, and maybe happy though.  But alas I have a plan.

I can get a government job of some sort, not show up for work and guide while I'm "working" for the government.  Worst thing that could happen is that if by chance they figure out I'm not working I'd get fired.  50/50 chance probably.  If that doesn't pan out I could be a union thug, 90/10 chance I'd get caught on that with the odds in my favor  ;)

Fun when a plan comes together.  Sorry Smurf and all govt fellers I've offended but if you could give me a recommendation I'd appreciate it.

So LL you still don't get it that us Union workers have a lot of pride in our jobs.   I had a big speel but deleted it.  I have worked both Union and non Union.  Pros and Cons to both.  AND don't even bring the auto union into this.  They were way over the top and make us all look bad.  Not the employees fault but the companies that are still raping us on car prices

sorry LPS, I was referring to goofing around with Glenn.  As I've said before I was raised in a union household and my dad was proudly in the bricklayers union for 50 years.  No offense meant and the way I see it it's self deprecating humor to my upbringing more than anything else.

The above isn't even a Hillary Clinton like bs excuse.  I've got my dad's framed 50 year Bricklayers and Allied Crafts"people" (it doesn't say craftsman anymore) Award hanging in my house.  Heck, I'm a lumber salesman and people can goof around and tease me about it til the cows come home and do all the time.

Don't make fun of my failed farming though, that would hurt  :happy1:

I thought about guiding but realized how bad I would feel if the clients didn't catch fish, things didn't work out, whatever.  It would spoil my whole day or maybe even week.  The stress would kill me.

Here's a picture of Burntside Lake taken from the deck of my house at 6 last evening.  The smoke is so thick you cannot see Long Island which is about 1/4 mile away.

forest fire smoke, although many times tragic, is an amazing thing.  I think I can see a slight haze here in the NW suburbs unless it's some other phenomenon.  What a great day yesterday and what made it greater is that it cooled down right away.  Summer should work that way, two days of hot and two days like this 71 day low humidity stuff.

Planning Mothers Day gets harder as the kids get older.  Wife needs to go see her mom and one kid works til 5pm.  We usually take Deb somewhere on one of those junkets she likes like a road trip to Stillwater or something similar and wander around have a picnic and be in the sun.  Wife loves the sun like it's 1970 and people "sun bathed" and thought it was healthy.  I'm guilty of it myself but she's a sun addict.  Ironically I've had skin cancer and she hasn't.  Clean living on her part.

Have fun today, throw a stick for your dog.

We had the smoke from Canada reaching down here to Andover over the night.  I thought it was fog of some kind at first.  I feel terrible for the folks up in Canada.  It's a huge fire and left a lot of destruction in it's path.  They say it's even getting stronger.  I was up on the Gunflint Trail for week when they had the Ham Lake fire there.  I remember fishing on Hungry Jack Lake in mid day and seen this huge mass of what I though was a line of clouds moving in.  It was a wall of smoke.  It turned day into night, blocking out the sun.  Went back into the cabin and Seen water coming down the windows.  Told my wife how strange it was that it was raining when none was expected.  Turned out to be the sprinkler system on top of each cabin being turned on.

The next day the smoke went elsewhere with the wind change and I seen other cabin owners on top of their cabins installing these sprinkler systems.  Time to get the boat ready.  Have a great day.  good luck.

Good mornin'! Smoky here too. Thought it was fog at 1st but once I got outside, could tell right away it wasn't. 55 degrees though a big switch form the 87 we saw yesterday. A little precip, .01" but were some pretty good light shows from all the lightning in the cells a distance away. "Heat lightning" is the term Dad used to use. Anyway, chores are done and Mrs. Cheviot skipped out again as she had to go to work early. I have to get bagged feed again and make a trek to FF in the process for supplies. Gotta mow the windbreak for the first time so that will be a treat. Solid dandelions so it'll gum the deck up good on my old mower. Apples and flowering crabs are in full bloom and one of the pear trees had blossoms, the other did not so likely no pears. Rode around last night having a few brews with the guy who farms the land around my place. Saw the wood ducks on the pond and he was telling me there were 3 huge deer holed up in the slough area around it. Keep thinking one of these days the orioles will finally arrive but so far nothing. Should put out the hummingbird feeder too. No big plans for Mother's Day. Wife may be working, not sure and since we have no kids, the dogs may get her something. After all, she's already got me; what more does she really need? :laughroll:

Thanks Dotch for the reminder on the hummingbird feeders.  I will have to do that today also.  Along with mow the lawn for the first time and clean up the maple tree that I cut down last week.  It was making 2 others grow crooked so finally after thinking about it for 10 years decided it was time to make firewood out of it.  I might get out for a couple of hours of Sturgy fishing today before the kentucky Derby.  I would like to see an hour of coverage before the race too.  Have a toddy or two to celebrate with crowd.  lol  I have to boil spuds for my potatoe salad too.  Man I have a lot to do.  First it is time for breadfast with some of my homemade sausage patties.  The wife isn't too big on it so that means more for me.   ;)  I will try to post a pic of Buddy on the dock last night.  It was pretty smoky here.  Clear and sunny now.    lol  That Gillespie guy is on TV right now doing his fishing show.  HEY THERE IS ANOTHER NICE ONE  MAN LETS HAVE SOME JOHNSONVILLE BRATS...  He bugs my wife and I think it is funny as heck.   :bonk:  Well have a good one everyone.

Got in a nasty fight with my tiller, went 8 rounds and I lost by tko. And why is it when your hat blows off it will stay in the same place until you're just ready to grab it and then it blows away again. Needed a break but I'm going back out to try and get the #$%# thing going again. Saw an oriole at the hummingbird feeder and last night saw my first hummer.

Made it to the cabin around 4 yesterday,  the family had been here most of the day. Spuds were on the grill already and 8 thick pork chops hit the grill. After dinner went out looking for  pan fish,  as soon as 2 lines hit the water they went down, we're thinking cool this will be fun. Well I think we caught the only 9 fish in the bay in less than 2 minutes Cuz after that...nuttin.  The boat lift canopy has only been on for 12 hrs and the swallows are already trying to build a nest. Anybody know of a good solution to keep these guys away? We've put a plastic owl under it, ran a slinky around on the top rail, toothpaste,  even mothballs.  There's no quit in these guys.

Good morning guys,it's a  beautiful day here. It's just a mixture of work and play today, golf, cut grass, wash car and maybe some fishing. Mom gave me a Mother's Day present today a days break from her  ;) she is going with my brother to pick up her grandson from Penn State. No cooking today, just a quick bite at the 19th hole. All have a good
if you kick me when I'm down you better pray I don't get up.

Funny how we get attached to things like grill's Del.  I have two that I keep saying I'm going to dump, yet there they sit and never used.  I keep saying I'm going to take the small one camping one day, or on a one day fishing trip and cook on a island.  However it's beyond use so tomorrow one is going, then the other.

Just not looking forward to going to the casino for the buffet.  Just never into going out to eat, but I swallow my selfishness and pretend that I'm liking it.  I love the old fashion BBQ with smoking ribs, butts, chicken, burgers ect.  That to me is great for any occasion.  When I grew up we never went out to eat.  All the meals were homecooked meals.  Maybe that's what it is.  The good thing is that even my wife doesn't like to go out to eat.  However her parents went out often and seldom cooked so maybe it has a reverse effect.  Have a great Mothers Day everyone.  I told my mom and wife often that every day is Mothers Day for me.  good luck.

Bobber- I think your only salvation from the swallows is moving up there and constantly harassing them that or stringing fishing line all over the place so getting into the boat on the lift is also impossible for a human.

I layed in bed for a bit and was welcomed to the day by the 49 pound black lab.  In the morning she likes to get face to face for a meeting it seems.  After a bit of licking and patting she layed on my neck, sighed, and seemed to fall asleep.  Her comfort level with our relationship is amazing.  It's like your old fishing or hunting buddy who may just grab part of your sandwich out of your hand, take a bite, hand it back to you and you take a bit as though that's normal.  Maybe that should be normal.

My mom isn't with us anymore but I said hi to her already and today have to venture out and visit the MIL and another adopted mom.  Mother's Day is more work now that I don't have one than when I did.  My mom asked for walleye for Mothers Day usually...and a few hand picked dandelions like I did when I was little.  Moms are awesome.

Good morning all.  We are having coffee and then heading up to Sportsmans for their Mothers day brunch.  It is always good.  So much food and I like it all.  It is hard to not overeat.  I try everything they have.  They have roast beef, chicken, walleye, eggs benedict, cheesy potatoes, and more.  Also have a ton of deserts.  I take more of the meat and potatoes and eggs than desserts though.  The wife is the dessert eater more than me.  They also have champagne and bloody marys.  I may have a bloody mary and the wife usually will have a mamosa.  Then we will come home and vegetate.....

Got the maple tree cut up, straw off the drainfield and lawn mowed yesterday.  Today I am thinking of putting the 5th wheel camper out by the road with a for sale sign on it.  Maybe start the garden since you guys already have.  May go for a boat ride and check out the river.  Looks like it is going to be a nice day.  See ya all later, have a great Mothers Day.

RH smile the buffet will be fun.....  :happy1:
