Our basement can get wet with a lot of rain or snow in the spring.  I have kept my eye open for plastic pallets.  Nice to put some things on them just in case.

Think I'm a semi-pro at that. Mine flooded/severe seepage 3 or 4 times. Tried everything. Humidifier. Fans. Would just come in for a week at a time, only at NE corner,  then take a week to dry out.Ended up having to cut the paneling, insulation and studs up about 2-3" inches with my circular saw held sideways, as the maple paneling wicked up the water. Had to rip out carpet and pad. Put 4" composite molding in place 1/4" above floor and sealed seam with hydraulic cement. Still came thru. Spent one entire nite down there round the clock sucking up water and hauling out in wet vac. When it started again four years ago, said screw it, and cut out concrete floor entire length of north and NE walls. Put  drain pipe tiling  in trench and poured in pea rock before cementing over top. Ran both drain tubes into sump pit and ran pipe up and out thru block wall. Wired and put in a dedicated circuit to pump myself. What a friggin' job. Put in new paneling and berber carpet. I worked my azz off. Was also working 12 hr shifts at the time that it started...

Reb, that's what I did.  Had water come in a couple time every year from the time we bought the house.  This was before inspections and truth in housing.   Shoulda had guido go talk to the seller, but we didn't.   Finally one day after years and years (basement was "finished" by the seller dude in whatever paneling menards was closing out, and that red polypro outdoor carpeting) I just got po'd and started in one corner with a sledge.   Over the course of a long time, gutted all the paneling, made probably 140 feet of trench, mostly with a sledge and a shovel, drilled weep holes in the block with copper pipe to the trench, pea gravel, drain tile, and two sumps.

Passed the broken concrete and clay out the window when kids were home from college and wheeled it away.

Been fine ever since, may it stay that way.

Morning boys. 12 here this morning and not supposed to get out of the 20s again here toady. Was cold with the north wind yesterday. Going to do the same again today. No water in the basement here at our place. Because we have no basement. Our house is a slab on grade with in floor heat. I knew in this neck of the woods with the water table so high a basement would be nothing but a problem. Way less stressful that way. I feel for you guys. Well, just another day in paradise. Have a good one boys.

Morning boys.  I have a corner in the basement that can get wet and have thought of putting a sump in that corner.  You guys did a good job of it.   :happy1:  I think I will get the bird houses up on the new power poles for the tree swallows.  I also have a bluebird house that the woodpeckers made the hole too big.  Need to put a new piece with the correct hole over it.  I did see 4 wood ducks the other day.  Haven't notice if they are using our houses yet.  Other than that just trying to stay out of trouble.

Mornin gang, we have 25*presently & we might hit 35* later. Hardly any snow left here, just in front of the bushes out front. Probably stick close to home again today. That's all I've got today, have a good Tuesday.

Mornin' gang! 15 for the overnite low and 19 at choretime. Heading for a high near 30 with more snow and graupel on the way. As a famous man once said, if you like your snow and graupel, you can keep it.  ;) Still white here and looks to stay that way for a few days yet. Major snowbanks in tree plantings and fencelines so there will be reminders for a while after that. Just glad the power is on. Last year we were still picking up the aftermath from that major storm that snapped power poles and lines, knocking out electricity for several days. Otherwise still in a holding pattern waiting for the weather to break. Reading bug traps & rain gauges, measuring snow depth and recording data. And so it goes...

One little band went thru here about a half hour ago. During this last one it snowed as hard as it did at times Sunday for about 5 minutes. Couldn't see the neighbor's house 1/4 mile across the pasture. Looks like it's going to do this most of the afternoon too. Not supposed to get above freezing so it'll likely cover the bare patches that melted off yesterday. It's got a good start already.

Morning boys. 14 here this morning heading for a high of 32. Getting to work later now because the Grocery store changed their hours to open at 7 and that is where the wife works. So now she can't get in there at 6:30 when she use to start. So now I get punished to. :angry2: Otherwise just another day in paradise. Have a good one boys.

Mornin gents,  we have 18* & are headed for the upper 30's here on the south side. Was checking out the TWC early on & they showed some workers out cleaning up the remnants of a 60 car pile up on the Kennedy Expressway on the north side of Chicago this mornin. There must be a lot more people in a hurry to get to work there than there is 'round here. :tut:  Nothin else here, have a good1.
