Note: if you want to add the onions, put them in the pot before you put the diced tomatoes in. (Otherwise they lay on top and don't cook)
based on this I take it you just leave it cook and don't stir it up once in a while?!

First time I've done CSR's in the crackpot. Let 'em go 5 hrs on low. Literally fell apart when I took them out. Would have made some great pulled pork, but I was out of BBQ sauce!!! :bonk:

Anybody ever made a traditional Goulash?

Ingredients

2 lbs ground beef or turkey
3 tsp minced garlic
1 large Yellow onion, diced
2 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup beef broth
1/3 cup olive oil
2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
2 (15-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
1 T Italian seasoning
1 T Adobo Seasoning
3 bay leaves
1 T seasoned salt
1/2 T black pepper
2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
1 cup shredded Mozzarella Cheese
1/2 Cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

In a large pan, saute your ground meat in skillet over medium-high heat until HALF cooked, remove from heat.
Add garlic, onions, olive oil & until meat is fully cooked.
Add water and broth, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, italian seasoning, bay leaves, and seasoned salt, pepper and adobo seasoning. Mix well.
Lower heat and cover - allow to cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Add in the uncooked elbow macaroni to the skillet, stir well until everything is combined
Cover once again and allow to simmer for about 30 minutes
Once cooked, remove the bay leaves
Add only the cheddar cheese and mix until combined
Add mozzarella right before serving

The wife's  family is huge on goulash,  tried it but it seemed bland to me. So I had the wife  make it with chorizo once,  it really woke up that recipe. I think any type of sausage will make or break some dishes.. but that's just me.

It's whatever works for ya. Most recipes from many years ago were typically fairly bland. Some mexican Adobo (Meat immersed in spicy sauce) in Italian gives it something different. I put Carne asada seasoning on my pork all the time. You'll realize "carne asada" is beef steak, usually flank, seared with seasonings. I don't care. I like it on my piggers meat. That's what makes a great cook, one who is willing to toss rules to the wind and experiment, 'cuz there are no rules in my cook book. Want more flavor? Do what ya will to kick it up a notch.  :happy1:

That's what I thought boob, grandma's recipe was really bland... just looking for ideas.

It's that type of a meal for the doldrums of winter.

No, I don't like goulash, or "Hot dishes"! Guess I'm not a Minnysodan, eh?

I DID make that (Boober named it) "Reb-a-roni.....might try this:

                  Reb-a-roni

Chopped up a large white onion and a green pepper, and let them sweat for a bit in a soup pot. Meanwhile, browned a lb of lean burger, and cook  and drained 1 1/2 cups of small elbow macaroni. Dumped both of those in with the onions and peppers, and added the can of Sriracha beans (These are big 22 oz cans) Add some Mexican chili powder, and about 10 oz of TJ's Salsa Authentica, a natural  and chunky salsa. Slow simmered for about 15 mns, covered, and then let rest. It was a thick, smoky, sweet and still with lots of bite kinda "goulash''. (Which I normally hate) It really sticks to the ribs, and is very filling. Just thought I'd pass that along, it's easy and quick, and pretty tasty...

1 lb hamburger, browned and drained
½ to 1 med green pepper; chopped
1 large onion, chopped
1 big 22 oz can hot beans  (Sriracha beans in  sauce)
1- 1 ½ cups cooked elbow macaroni
1 small jar chunky medium salsa
Mexican chili powder to taste
Smoked chipotle powder to taste
Combine all in pot, low simmer for about 20-30 mns.

I think some of youse guys are on the right track. Goulash doesn't have to be bland. Have had some homemade stuff that wasn't bad but someone made it with seasoning other than salt and a hint of pepper. Unfortunately goulash was served about 1000 too many times in the school hot lunch programs, killing tastebuds and causing people like myself to avoid it like the plague. That stuff was awful. Bland with a capital B!  :puke:

Goulash typically is made with a bunch of Paprika as the main seasoning.   But I guess you can call something Goulash if you want.   Look at what folks call tacos or chili or chow mein in Minnesota.
