Wild rice soup and french bread. Easier to leave a bowl of soup for the doorbell-ringing street urchins than a piece of nice, hot pizza..... they're already out and demanding goodies....

Go out to light my jack o' lantern, and those %$#!&  SKWIRRELS ate his face off!!!! Looks like terminal acne!    :taz: :taz:

We've had one kid come to the door....

Two little fellers here. A pack of 5 that were bigger than me. Screw 'em . Let 'em stand there. Big ones don't get goodies.

Other kids, I scare off..... but, some still show up..... (That know the family)

Saves on candy!  :rotflmao:

I ALWAYS have my outside lights on!! All three sets of 'em! I've been fighting with a few neighbors lately as neighborhood watch guy to turn their friggin' lights on! It's darker than a cave on this street, lots of crap going down, yet they won't turn on a light! They'll be the first to cry when their place gets broken into, though....
Do you know how spendy sugar free is??!?!?! I don't eat candy anyway, never have. Not good for ya!

I wonder if this crap that happened in NYC this afternoon has any bearing on tonite.....

I don't see a chile or any chili!  Just other stuff.... :rotflmao: That's how I load my chili up, though. Blob of sour cream, the shredded cheese, then tostada chips. Can't see the chili!!

Dat ain't cheese! That's yellow oil and milk!  I used swiss and Havarti!  The canned soup was the ish. I don't do any canned soups...except tomato and the "cream of" for cooking. I picked up a lb of chicken breasts the other day to make my chicky noodle soup, and got 3 smoke pigger hocks nad some ham scraps in the fridge just waitin' to go in a pot of my smoked bean 'n ham soup. Already put up twelve tubs of wild rice, 'tato sausage, and chili in the freezer.

My bean soup for tomorrow.

          Reb's Bean ‘n Ham Soup

1 16 oz bag of Navy or Great Northern beans
3 smoked ham hocks plus ham trimmings/chunks, about 2 cups, or you can use 2 thin-cut cooked and smoked ham steaks, cubed
1 tsp salt
½ tsp Basil or 2 Basil leaves
¼ tsp Rosemary
6-8 peppercorns
2 Qts (8 cups) water
1 large onion, chopped coarse
2-3 ribs of celery, diced small
1-2 chopped carrots, (I like slicing baby carrots),  about 1 full cup
8-10  drops of liquid smoke
Veggies should equal 2 full cups PLUS ½ onion.

Soak beans overnight in 2 qts. of water, then drain. Combine first 7 items, except the cubed ham steak, and bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer covered for 2 hrs, stirring occasionally. Take out hocks and Basil leaves; remove and return to soup any meat from bones. Stir in onion, celery, carrots , cubed ham, liquid smoke, and continue simmering, covered, for 45 mns - 1 hr. or until beans and veggies are tender. Remove cover and let soup thicken as desired.

Oh I'm sure it's tasty reb, but I quit reading when I hit liquid smoke. I used it once in a salmon brine and never again. I always throw more smoke at a big fat  ham on the charcoal and it's like sliced candy, even cold. Try it sometime,  bout an hour of extra smoke.... don't use gas!! Then put tgat bone and trimmings in your soup..
