  • 2015 deer contest champ!!!
they had a segment on the #4 news last nite. its still pretty early to see how this is going to pan out but as i understand it i dont think every student athlete is going to get anything out of this!!!! :doah:   it has something to do with the atheletes likeness....... :blablabla: :blablabla: :blablabla:. so as i  see it your star athletes will get the noteriety and maybe some cash but your offensive linemen or less "popular" players wont see a dime.

i've always said and still firmly believe if a student athlete that gets a scholorship based on his athletic abilities to a free ride to college and doesnt get a degree or leaves early to go PRO........ that athlete should have to pay back the school the full cost of a scholorship.

Six shots fired in Southeast Rochester shooting
 Oct 30, 2019

Rochester, Mn.

Two people escaped injury Tuesday afternoon when a man shot at their car at least half dozen times.

Rochester police responded around 4:10 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Turnberry Drive Southeast, Capt. Casey Moilanen said.

A 21-year-old woman and a 21-year-old man were driving on Turnberry Drive when another car quickly approached their vehicle.  An occupant of the suspect vehicle began shooting at their car, Moilanen said. Police declined to say how many people were in the suspect vehicle.

The 21-year-old man got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene while the woman, who was driving, stayed in the car. A male suspect got out of the suspect vehicle and started shooting at the woman's car again, Moilanen said.

Police believe at least six shots were fired. A nearby home was hit several times. No one was injured.

The suspect vehicle then fled.

The incident is under investigation, and police declined to release many details to "maintain the integrity of the investigation." Police did say that the suspect vehicle was located later that same day by Olmsted County Sheriff's deputies and was seized by Rochester police.

Moilanen said initial investigation indicates that the shooting is not random nor is it related to the previous two shooting incidents in the city.

And they actually state the persons "color"....well, that's no surprise in the land of diversity.

More political correctness. Thanks Bill & Hillary for starting all that nonsense and for @ssholes like the WI governor for keeping it up. Oops! I better be careful. My name could be on the same list as Epstein's!

Maybe we could do like Paris. Make a fake tree to please everyone. Fact that it looks like a giant butt plug might even make it more popular around here.

IMO, they don't have the authority. That would be like Minnesota Highway Patrol renaming roads and Interstates......

Supreme Court hears arguments on changing lake’s name

November 14, 2019

MINNESOTA NEWS, MINNESOTA NEWS FROM THE ASSOCIATED PRESS, TOP STORIES
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The battle over the name of a popular Minneapolis lake has landed before the Minnesota Supreme Court.

Justices heard arguments Wednesday on whether the Minnesota DNR has the authority to change the name of Lake Calhoun to its original Dakota name, Bde Maka Ska.

The state Court of Appeals ruled in April that the agency overstepped its authority in January 2018 when it changed the name. It said authority to change the name rested with the Legislature under statutes governing lake and other place names.

KARE-TV reports Save Lake Calhoun attorney Erick Kaardal argued the legislature enacted a policy that says lake names that have been used more than 40 years cannot be changed without lawmakers granting additional authority.

It could take the court months to make a decision.

                                   ###

What I found on naming Minnesota lakes:

Most lakes are named after a feature. A sandy lake is often named Sandy Lake. A lake with a lot of fish is often named Fish Lake. A lot of lakes are repeats; there are 20 Mud Lakes in Minnesota.

Yet a lot of Minnesota lakes still don’t have a name.

Boulay (state climatologist) said you can’t name a lake after a living person, and you need the signature of 15 registered voters. The county board then votes on it, then the DNR Commissioner, then the federal board.

After that, a lake has a name, officially.

This happens one to three times a year.

“The best names are the ones that are generally accepted by everybody and they make sense with it,” Boulay said.

He said whether the word lake is used before or after the lake’s name depends on how big the lake is, or how it sounds.

The state doesn’t like apostrophes in lake names, because people often mistake them for islands on maps.
