I spent a lot of time on the road this past weekend between Fargo and Rochester.  I only saw one dead fawn, but lots of other dead deer along the highway.

Is there something about this time of year that causes deer to move more and be more susceptible to automobile collisions?

the great wise HD posted once in a conversation here years back that last years young are getting pushed away from the does getting ready to give birth to the new youngins so these year old deer are looking for new territory. and as much as i hate to agree with him makes alot of sense!!!!!!

bugs right now could be another factor.

Bugs are getting ugly in these parts right now. The good news: The first variety of buffalo gnats is dying down replaced by a less obnoxious variety or so I am told by an entomologist friend. The bad news: The mosquitoes are ramping up now. The first bunch was dumb and big enough to use for bait. This last batch is just plain nasty. Stand around too long in a calm spot and they nail ya. Now the deer, stable and horse flies are out in force. About your only hope is to get out in the breeze. Not enough breeze and you're bug food. I suspect that's part of the deer thing.
