so i'm going to be replacing my panfish reels. i WILL NOT get into a discussion on what brand, i got a question. what are your guys opinion on these quick fire reels. reels that have the level to trip the bail;????????????

my experience tells me these reels seem to have the springs go bad faster, which is why i'm replacing the 2.

Oh, you mean LEVER to trip the bail...threw me off.  I used them for many, many years. Don'y anymore.  I also used to clean and fix reels on the side for a long time, all kinds. IMO, there's no concern with what you are asking, never seen or replaced springs because of that. The lever just has a notch to catch that releases the bail wire.  I think I still have 6 or 7 of them....

"Open face" are usually called spinning reels. At least, in this century.  Go down south, they'll think yer talking a "baitcaster"....that's an "open face".

I'm confused. It's almost lunchtime. What's an open face sammich then?   :rotflmao:

I started out with spincast stuff so I always liked the idea of a finger trip bail when I switched over to spinning reels. Had a Shakespeare Omega that was my fave but the spring broke on the finger trip lever and I couldn't find a replacement. Have a Shimano that replaced it. Not quite the same feel to it tho.

Sure, get Glenn all worked up! He won't listen to us, anyway.  ;)

Glenn, Dotch has always got his finger on something anyway. Probably probing the depths of his gin bottle with it right now.  *LICK*   :rotflmao:

I’ve been using nothing but the Quantum hypercasts for probably 15 years now and never had a problem with any of them. I liked the original that had the finger trigger on the bail better but the newer models that have the bigger trigger on the body of the reel work just as good, I think it’s more of a personal preference than a functional issue for me.

The Zebco 202 types are Spin Cast reels.  The other ones with the bail are an Open Faced Spinning reel.  The level wind ones are the Baitcasters.
