Title: Wild
Post by: Bobby Bass on January 01/13/17, 02:14:23 PM
Well the time is here for us to start a  string so Lee can jump on the Wild bandwagon. Chicago and Wild play Sunday, two more points for the Wild who owned Chicago last season winning all five games.... :happy1:

Don't get over enthusiastic there boys just because your team is in 1st place.  :oops1: :sorry: that's right, a team called "Da Chicago Blackhawks"  :blues brothers: is in 1st place. Anyhow, enjoy sloppy seconds while you can because your boys will collapse soon just as they do every season.

PS. Congrats on the most ugly team logo in all of sports :puke: Still trying to figure what it's supposed to be anyhow.

 Hmmm I think we can see that I am backing the Wild so there is no way I can lose since I started the string. Glad to see you have come to your senses and are now a Wild fan.. Pretty sneaky move on your part though, some might even call it cunning! of course you are a day late in picking your team.

Double shifting Kain had him all tucker out by the third period and then Sutter and his d partner traded sides of the rink and Sutter just smothered Kain for the rest of the game.

You just noticed my fishing lure? pretty spendy they are

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- One of the remarkable changes for the Minnesota Wild under first-year coach Bruce Boudreau has been a consistency in the team's approach after years of dramatic swings in play.

                                                          :imstupid:

"It was stupid," Boudreau said of his defensemen chasing pucks in the offensive zone. "We pinch with a 3-2 lead with no one behind us. I mean, it's stuff we don't do, haven't done all year. I don't know what our thought process is there. Their winning goal, we have three guys caught. A 4-on-2, they come down, and then it's a 1-on-5 in the zone and nobody's doing anything. :bonk: It was just dumb :taz: hockey." :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

Wa wa wa  Has da slide begun? ...........

Well we go into the midseason break and the Wild are on top by a couple with some games in hand on Chicago which of late is starting to fade some.  Am seeing Lee walking around looking like this  confused-3316.gif also you are seeing Lee look like this when someone, well everyone is scoring on Crawford  face_plant-2139.gif sure hope the Hawks don't lost it all and miss the playoffs

Wild up by 9 points in the standings and yet another "Do or Die" game Tuesday for the Hawks. Wild then do their bye week which no one in the NHL likes. Very few teams come out of their bye and win their next game. Hawks will have to hope they can make up some ground here. Don't see Lee tooting his horn for the Hawks this season..  confused-3316.gif

Wild top prospect Alex Tuch on his way back to the minors

 :doah: ....
Minnesota Wild top prospect Alex Tuch has been reassigned to the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League for the second time in as many weeks.

Since making his NHL debut two weeks ago, Tuch has played six games and has yet to record a point. He spent the past few games playing on the team’s third line alongside Charlie Coyle and opposite Zach Parise.

Tuch has flashed his skill set from time to time, though the game itself still looks a little fast for him. A 6-foot-4, 220-pound force in the minors, the 20-year-old has struggled to make the most of his size in the big leagues. He also tends to stop on pucks and struggles with his body positioning, especially along the walls.
These are things Tuch will continue to work on down in the minors with the guidance of Iowa Wild coach Derek Lalond

“I have no doubt in my mind that he’s going to turn into an impact player,” Lalonde said last week. “I don’t mean to put him on the spot like that; I’m just confident its a matter of when.”

His most recent reassignment doesn’t even necessarily mean Tuch won’t be back in the NHL this week as the Wild prepare to take on the rival Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night. It could simply be the organization’s way of making sure Tuch continues to play in games, with the Iowa Wild scheduled to play the Cleveland Monsters on Monday night.

“I have to learn from it and build from it,” Tuch said earlier this week. “You can’t be too distraught about it. I’m only 20 years old, so hopefully I have a long career ahead of me.”

:reporter;Toews gets hat trick for Hawks in 5-3 win over Wild

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The relatively slow start to the season for Jonathan Toews has been buried by his recent surge.

The captain is in prime form at the right time for the Blackhawks, reminding the Minnesota Wild that their postseason path will likely lead to Chicago.

Toews had three goals and two assists, and the Blackhawks beat the rival Wild 5-3 on Tuesday night for their second win over the Western Conference leaders in less than two weeks.

"Johnny's done so many things for us," Chicago coach Joel Quenneville said. "He's an amazing player with competitiveness you're never going to find. What a great leader and a great captain."

Toews notched his fourth career hat trick on an empty-netter with 1:02 left to stave off a spirited rally by the Wild, who began a franchise-record eight-game homestand on Feb. 8 with a 4-3 overtime loss to the Blackhawks. Toews had a goal and two assists in that one and has 37 points in 35 career games against Minnesota.

"We always look at that team, especially with the way they're playing, as a measuring stick right now," said Toews, who has 20 points in his last 12 games. "Our respect level for what they can do is at an all-time high, and we know it's going to take a heck of an effort to beat them."

Toews' wing men Nick Schmaltz and Richard Panik had the other goals, giving the Blackhawks 34 goals in their last eight games and four five-goal outputs in their last five games. The first line totaled nine points, which rendered the shutdown of Patrick Kane and his line moot.

"It makes it tough. That's why they've won the Cup three times. It feels like when one's not going, the other is going," said Zach Parise, whose blind redirect of a shot by Marco Scandella brought the Wild within 3-2 after Toews beat Mikko Koivu on a faceoff to set up Schmaltz for a wrist shot that Devan Dubnyk never saw just 33 seconds into the third period.

Mikael Granlund had two power-play goals, the second of which brought the Wild within 4-3 before Ryan Suter just missed the tying goal with an attempt that hit the crossbar. Between the goals by Parise and Granlund, though, was the tap in by Toews made possible by a slick behind-the-net spin by Schmaltz that produced a perfect pass to the edge of the crease.

"He just wasn't getting the bounces there at the start of the year. He's always worked so hard, so you knew at some point the tides were going to change for him," Schmaltz said.

The game was played in front of the largest crowd of the season in Minnesota, an overflow paid attendance of 19,333 filled out with the usual smattering of boisterous Blackhawks fans. They got the first chance to fully cheer when Toews knocked in the rebound of Brian Campbell's slap shot that Dubnyk wasn't able to glove in the first minute of the second period.

Wild defenseman Matt Dumba, back from a four-game absence because of a lower-body injury, was in Dubnyk's way as the All-Star goalie tried to freeze the puck. The night didn't improve for Dumba, whose turnover behind the goal line less than five minutes later gave Toews possession for a setup for Panik and a 2-1 lead.

Dubnyk, who stopped 34 shots, was awfully busy in that middle frame, making a diving save to deny Kane's chip from the edge of the crease a little later and then letting Brent Seabrook's shot ping off the post. The Blackhawks outshot the Wild 13-5 in the second period.

The Wild took a five-point lead over the Blackhawks, with one game in hand, into their five-day bye.

"They outplayed us today, but what wouldn't make me think that we couldn't play with them?" Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. "They're a great team. But we're right there."

NOTES: The Blackhawks are 20-5-1 when Toews gets at least one point. ... Corey Crawford had 29 saves for Chicago. ... Parise had a third-period goal waved off for a high stick. ... The Wild lost by more than one goal for only the fifth time this season. ... Exactly one year ago, the Wild beat the Blackhawks 6-1 in an outdoor game at the University of Minnesota's football stadium.

UP NEXT:

Chicago: The Blackhawks return home to start a four-game homestand, beginning with Arizona on Thursday.

Minnesota: The Wild come back from their bye to host Los Angeles on Monday and start the final stretch of 23 games in 41 days. pouty-1023.gif who cares any more......... :surrender:

Wild have come out of their bye week with a couple of wins and are putting points between them and the Black Hawks. They are turning them game in  hand into points which is good. A couple of trades have played and produce goals. Also some toughness as both have more then 110 hits which is more then anyone on the Wild had till they came. Mumps have hit the Wild but they are still winning. This might be a team that will go deep into the playoffs.

Two soft goals on the first two shots of the game was the difference for the Wild. After it was a show case for hockey in NHL Will be a heck of a playoff matchup if it comes to that. Wild still in first place even with loss.. Now Hawks will spend most of their remaining games on the road.. sleazy-422.gif

pouty-1023.gif I think the new guys the Wild picked up are not fitting in as hoped. White is ok but the lines have been shook up and even though they will be in the playoffs unless they put a winning streak together they will be backing in not the way to play.  face_plant-2139.gif

At this time I'm glad to take this opportunity to congratulate Bobby and present him with this badge of honor. At last he has learned to face reality as it has shown it's ugly head once again. His devotion to his team has been outstanding. However his team  "The Wild" (cough....cough) has not been very responsive to all his support. I would like to reach out the old olive branch to our Mister Bass and bring him aboard the Chicago Blackhawks fan club.

Jets hand flailing Wild their fifth consecutive loss

   ...
After fighting back from a 4-0 deficit to tie the game, the Minnesota Wild squandered any momentum they were able to muster in a stellar second period Sunday night. Their 5-4 defeat in Winnipeg is Minnesota’s fifth straight loss and eighth in their last 10 games.

“Hey, listen — we stunk in the first. :bonk: We better come back in the second,” said Wild head coach Bruce Boudreau in a post-game press conference that lasted all of 25 seconds. “Holy crap. It’s not resiliency. You make it sound like we’re good. That’s all. I’m done.”

 :blablabla: ....
Minnesota (43-22-6) had been dominant over the Jets (32-33-7) this year, holding a perfect 4-0 record entering their fifth and final meeting of the season against their Central Division rivals. Chris Stewart’s pair of second period goals capped a four-goal surge in the period for the Wild, as Minnesota stormed back to tie the game entering the third.

Having allowed 19 goals during their current five-game skid, defense remains at the crux of the Wild’s woes. :banghead:

“There’s a common denominator in the goals that are being scored against us — it’s the middle of the ice,” said Stewart, who scored his 12th and 13th goals of the season. “It’s that time of the year where guys are going hard to the net and banging home ugly goals. We’ve got to toughen up defensively. We’ve got to protect our net and protect our goalie at the end of the day.”

The Jets scored on their first shot on goal in each of the first two periods to hold a 4-0 lead, beating Devan Dubnyk four times on the first eight shots the Wild netminder faced with goals from Andrew Copp, Adam Lowry, Ben Chiarot, and Dustin Byfuglien. But as the game reached its mid-point, the Wild looked like a completely different team from the opening period.

“The frustrating part of it is that we don’t need to change anything :rotflmao: offensively or how we’re playing in the other end,” said Dubnyk. “That’s always the danger of going through situations like this, is that eventually you start to change everything you’re doing because, obviously, it’s human nature. It’s not working. You’re going to want to change it, but as far as the other end goes, nothing needs to change. We’re creating opportunities, we’re going to the net. And tonight pucks started going in. We could have had three or four more with some luck.”

Outshooting the Jets 21-5 in the middle frame, the Wild scored four times in a span of 10:24 as Charlie Coyle, Mikael Granlund, and Stewart lit the lamp to chase Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck from the game.

Granlund’s team-leading 24th of the season came on the power play, as the Wild went 1 for 3 on the man advantage while killing off three of Winnipeg’s four power play chances.

Dubnyk battled through his rough start to finish with 16 saves as he remains in a three-way tie with Washington’s Braden Holtby and Edmonton’s Cam Talbot for second amongst NHL goaltender wins with 36.

The Wild pressed late, finishing with 45 shots on goal — their second-highest total of the season.

“I thought we were going to get it in the third period, and their shot through traffic found a way in,” said Dubnyk’s of Josh Morrissey’s game winner on a point shot with 7:17 to play. “I didn’t see the puck. Bodies in front and try to pick a side and, obviously, I try to find the puck as best you can. Just heard the post.”

In the midst of their worst stretch of the season, the Wild remain in second place in the Central Division — five points back of Chicago and 11 up on St. Louis.

With the quick one game roadie, the Wild now return home for three as they play host to San Jose, Philadelphia, and Vancouver this week beginning on Tuesday with the Sharks in town.

BRIEFLY
• Wild center Eric Staal suited up in this 1,000th career NHL game Sunday in Winnipeg. The 32-year-old was held off the scoresheet, but has 24 goals and 54 points in 71 games this season. “It’s special for sure,” Staal said Sunday night. “Tough under the circumstances the way we’re playing here the last little bit, but in the overall grand scheme it’s a special moment for sure. It’s been an honor to play this game. To start, it’s fun to be out there every day.”
• Plymouth native and former Gophers standout Blake Wheeler hit the 500-career NHL point plateau Sunday, as the Jets’ captain set up fellow Minnesotan Dustin Byfuglien’s second period goal against the Wild. Wheeler finished with two assists in his 687th-career NHL game.

MN WILD  Hawks... WE want our MOJO back !!!     pouty-1023.gif

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Just a few weeks ago, the Minnesota Wild were the talk of the town. Now their own coach doesn't even want to talk about them.

Never before in his career had a Bruce Boudreau-coached NHL team lost five consecutive games. But that is the dubious streak the Wild will look to break on Tuesday when the San Jose Sharks come to Minnesota.

On Sunday, the Wild lost one for the thumb in Winnipeg, falling behind 4-0, rallying to tie the Jets 4-4, then surrendering a third-period goal to lose for the seventh time in the past eight games.

Boudreau spent less than a minute in the postgame scrum of reporters before stomping away in disgust.

"We stunk in the first (period)," Boudreau said, when asked if the second-period rally was a sign that his team was at least resilient. "We'd better come back in the second. Holy crap, it's not resiliency. You're making us sound like we're good."

And with that, he was gone, just as the Wild's chances of winning the Central Division are fading away quickly. While it would take a miracle for Minnesota to miss the playoffs, the Wild slump has coincided with a Chicago surge that has put the Blackhawks squarely in control of the top spot in the division. The Wild need points, desperately, and just a few positive things out of the Winnipeg game.

"I think it's a little bit too late in the year for moral victories, but we can learn from it," said Chris Stewart, who scored twice versus the Jets. "You look at the positive and the boys battled tonight, so we'll take that and we'll get ready for San Jose. There's no time to dwell on it."

The Sharks come to St. Paul fighting their own troubles, having lost three in a row, and having scored just twice in that span. On Monday night in Dallas, they were blanked 1-0 by the Stars despite Aaron Dell stopping 19 of the 20 shots he faced.

"We've just got to find a way to score a goal," Sharks coach Peter DeBoer said after the Dallas game. "I think last game we got one, tonight we got none. Chances are there, so we've just got to bear down and we got to get one dirty or ugly around the net, we got to get one on the power play some way, somehow to take a little pressure off the group because it's hard to win when you're only getting one or no goals like we have the last couple of games, so now we got to stick with it."

The Sharks are still solidly in command of the Pacific Division, four points ahead of Edmonton, but the Oilers are making a late charge, having won four in a row.

"Feeling is just stick with it, keep going, keep working," Sharks forward Joe Pavelski said. "We can't hang our head. This team never does. Just got to find a way to be a little bit better."

As Bobby continues to search for the lost MOJO :doah:

Stop us if you've heard this before: Blackhawks play mediocre for about 40-plus minutes, pull their heads out of the sand the final 10 to 15 minutes, erase a multi-goal lead and come back to win.

Well, in this one it was an overtime loss, but they'll take the point with how it started.

Ryan Hartman scored twice, his second tying the game with 1:03 remaining in regulation, but Daniel Sedin scored the winner and the Vancouver Canucks took a 5-4 overtime victory over the Blackhawks on Tuesday night. With the Minnesota Wild beating the San Jose Sharks, the Blackhawks' lead in the Western Conference and Central Division is now six points.

Wild winger Zach Parise leaves game after high stick to the face; prognosis unclear.

Breaking News  :reporter; This Just In .........
UPDATED: March 29, 2017 at 8:22 am

 training-087 ....
There was enough bloodshed to last a few games in the first period of Tuesday’s matchup between the Minnesota Wild and Washington Capitals.

That said, Wild winger Zach Parise being knocked out of the game after taking a high stick to the face from Capitals winger Tom Wilson midway through the first period was the biggest concern.

Parise was skating alone through the neutral zone when Wilson clobbered him with the blade of his stick. Then, as Parise was falling to the ice, Capitals center Jay Beagle nailed him with an accidental hip check to the head.

Parise appeared to smack his head on the ice on the way down.

Parise was immediately helped to the locker room and was unable to return.
(this is not a good thing)

“After the first period, the eye (was) just really swollen,” coach Bruce Boudreau said postgame, emphasizing that he hadn’t yet talked to the trainers. “It’s an upper body injury more than the eye.”

When asked whether the secondary hit caused more of the damage, Boudreau responded: “I think so but I haven’t seen him, either. I don’t know what he looks like at this stage, but I guess we’ll find out more tomorrow.”

Wilson was assessed a double minor, and about six minutes after the initial penalties, Wild veteran winger Chris Stewart decided that wasn’t punishment enough.

Stewart took matters into his own hands, confronted Wilson, and the two players threw punches before being assessed five-minute majors for fighting.

Wild defenseman Ryan Suter seemed concerned for Parise after the game.

“He doesn’t look too good,” Suter said, adding that the injury itself probably isn’t as bad as it looked upon first glance. “Hopefully, he recovers fast. He’s starting to play really well. That energy and just his tenacity out there. We need him back fast.”

Wild bring Stalock home say who?

Mar 29, 2017 at 10:10 p.m.

 :coffee: .....
Former Minnesota Duluth goalie Alex Stalock (left) deflects a loose puck near Denver's Rhett Rakhshani at the DECC in Duluth. (2009 file / News Tribune) ST. PAUL — South St. Paul native Alex Stalock is coming home, at least for now.

Stalock, a former Minnesota Duluth goaltender, was recalled by the Minnesota Wild on Wednesday after spending the entire season as the No. 1 goalie with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League. He is 20-16-7 with a 2.31 goals-against average and a .924 save percentage and four shutouts in 45 games in the minors.

The 29-year-old Stalock provides another body between the pipes, and his call-up coincides with the well-documented struggles of backup goaltender Darcy Kuemper, who is 7-5-3 with a 3.26 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage.

To make matters worse for Kuemper, it seems that coach Bruce Boudreau has lost confidence in him.

Published reports say Stalock will start for the Wild tonight against Ottawa.

Stalock played three seasons at UMD from 2006-09 and ranked first in the NCAA in minutes played and led the Bulldogs to the WCHA playoff championship and the NCAA West Regional final in 2009.

Stalock signed a two-year, $1.3 million contract extension in February. He is on a one-way contract in the first year of the deal and a two-way contract in the second year.

A fourth-round pick in the 2005 NHL Draft, Stalock has played in 62 NHL games, all with the San Jose Sharks. He knew going into this season that he likely would spend it all in the minors.

Wild sign Kloos

After wrapping up his senior season at the University of Minnesota with last week's NCAA tournament loss to Notre Dame, senior center Justin Kloos needed some time to decompress.

"It's still tough," he said of Saturday's 3-2 defeat. "I'd still love to be playing college hockey right now. That wasn't in the cards. I'll have my regrets about that. Overall I'm really happy about my experience. You've got to live with it and move on."

Kloos started that process on Wednesday, signing a two-year, entry-level contract with the Wild, which will begin during the 2017-18 season. He will finish the rest of this season with the Iowa Wild.

"This morning I went over to the Minnesota Wild offices (in St. Paul) and made it official," Kloos said. "It's something I'll always remember. I've been looking forward to this since I was a little kid."

Kloos wasn't given much time to celebrate, immediately hopping in a car destined for Des Moines to join the AHL team. He chatted briefly with minor-league coach Derek Lalonde, though he was unsure what his exact role would be in the coming days.

"We practice (today); I know that," Kloos said. "I guess we'll figure out the rest from there."

Kloos served as team captain in his final two seasons with the Gophers, finishing his senior year with 18 goals and 25 assists. He finished with 150 points (63 goals, 87 assists) over the course of an illustrious four-year career with the Gophers.

Kloos, who graduated from Lakeville South High School, said the fact that he's from the area wasn't a big factor in his decision. He chose the Wild over offers from the Calgary Flames and Los Angeles Kings because he felt it provided the best track to the next level.

"It happens to be the Wild, and that's great being from here," Kloos said. "It was more about the opportunity and where they see me fitting in. I was looking for a good opportunity as far as a chance to play on a team that needed me. I wanted a good chance to make an impression, and I felt like I could help them. ... Obviously some of those centers (with the Minnesota Wild) are really good. They are getting older, though, and they can't play forever. I'm hoping to give them more depth."

Kloos likely will be in the lineup when the Iowa Wild play the Chicago Wolves on Friday. That statement in and of itself is something Kloos is still getting used to.

"I don't know if it's totally set in yet that I'm not a member of the Gophers anymore," he said. "I'm sure it'll set in soon. I'm excited to be a member of the Minnesota Wild."

That would be a YES or NO!

But I am still watching UMD bulldog hockey and guess what they are in the finals and that is why I am still watching college hockey.  What did you think I would follow the Hawks

   :cheerleader: Congratulations Wild! :dancinred:

 :reporter;
It’s finally set in stone that the Minnesota Wild will take on the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

While the karma involved in playing a former coach in a best-of-seven series might scare some teams, the Wild should feel good about the fact that they were 2-2-1 against the Blues this season.

That said, the Wild have lost their only game against the Blues since Ken Hitchcock was fired two months ago and Yeo became head coach.

That, coupled with the fact that the Blues are one of the hottest teams in the NHL, an impressive 7-1-2 in their past 10 games, and it should make for a tough matchup for the Wild.

It’s hardly debatable that the Blues will have the best player in the series in the form of Vladimir Tarasenko. He has 38 goals and 34 assists, including goals in four of his past seven games.

Wild will play Blues (and former coach Mike Yeo) in the first round.

Still, the Wild will counter with a deep lineup that, in theory, should be able to wear the Blues down over the course of a best-of-seven series.

There is also the goaltender aspect, and Devan Dubnyk will be the best player who suits up between the pipes in this matchup despite the fact that Jake Allen has played very well as of late.

Actual playoff schedules will be released Sunday afternoon.

Go ahead....Crank up that volume...... You deserve it! :happy1:

Wild open first-round series against Blues on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

 :coffee: .....
After a grueling 82-game schedule, the Minnesota Wild will embark on their quest for a Stanley Cup starting on Wednesday night against the St. Louis Blues with a puck drop scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

That game will be held at the Xcel Energy Center thanks to the Wild locking up home-ice advantage, and will mark the second time in three years that the Wild play the Blues in the first round of the playoffs.

 :rotflmao: .....
A couple years ago the Wild won the best-of-seven series in six games before being swept by the Chicago Blackhawks :blues brothers: in the second round.

Here’s a look at the full schedule:

Game 1, Wednesday, April 12, at Minnesota, 8:30 p.m.

Game 2, Friday, April 14, at Minnesota, 7 p.m.

Game 3, Sunday, April 16, at St. Louis, 2 p.m.

Game 4, Wednesday, April 19, at St. Louis, 8:30 p.m.

*Game 5, Saturday, April 22, at Minnesota, TBD (if necessary)

*Game 6, Monday, April 24, at St. Louis, TBD (if necessary)

*Game 7, Wednesday, April 26, at Minnesota, TBD (if necessary)

Wild running out of time, and excuses

Minnesota psychiatrists know the drill. Fluff the pillows on the couches, brew another pot of bad coffee and listen to the Wild’s familiar troubles about a hockey universe conspiring against them.

The Blues convey a message to the Wild as they go for the series sweep!

The Predators are singing a sweet tune on their way home to Music City, threatening to play the Chicago Blackhawks right out of the postseason.

I blew it! I was all set to watch Da Hawks Pound training-087 da crap out a da Predators wit my beer, popcorn, and crab salad on crackers on da old snack tray. Before I knew it Da Hawks were in da hole 1 zip. That's when it all began to unravel. Borgie began to chew on my :moon: because I closed my eyes for a second. "I'm watchin Da Hawks" I told her. "Your sleeping!" she say's. "Not only that" she states but  "Da Hawks Lost!"

It seems dat a guy can't even get a break some times. If I could a just stayed awake when Da Hawks needed me. Well it won't happen again........  (until next time)

:reporter; Winnipeg Jets grounded in Duluth en route to St. Paul for Game 3 with Wild.

By Jon Nowacki  on Apr 14, 2018 at 11:29 p.m.

 :coffee: ....
The Winnipeg Jets were supposed to fly into Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport on Saturday but had their charter flight diverted to Duluth because of a massive spring snowstorm that converged on the Twin Cities. :snow1:

Air Canada Flight 7017 arrived in Duluth a little after 2 p.m. Saturday and headed back to Winnipeg a little after 4:30 p.m. According to workers with Monaco Air, the team stayed on the plane, waiting in Duluth hoping things would clear up. :doah:

According to the Winnipeg Free Press, the team also considered making it to the Twin Cities by road, but traveling the highways could be treacherous. The team practiced Saturday morning at Bell MTS Iceplex in Winnipeg, moving up both its practice and flight times hoping to beat the bad weather developing in the Twin Cities, but that obviously didn't happen. :banghead:

While the wind whipped through the Monaco Air parking lot with ferocity and waves on Lake Superior provided quite the spectacle, the Twin Ports were spared most of the storm's wrath as of Saturday evening.

  ..
Game 3 of the Jets' best-of-seven NHL playoff series with the Minnesota Wild is set for 6 p.m. today at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, but with strong winds and periods of snow expected through the overnight, playing the game as scheduled could be a challenge. The Wild already cancelled today's pre-game party due to the weather.

Michael Russo of The Athletic said the Jets were expected to fly out at 9 a.m. today.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP)-- Connor Hellebuyck bounced back in a big way, just as the Winnipeg Jets were expecting.

Jets look to seal closeout deal against Wild

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- Nobody needs to tell Winnipeg Jets fans what happened the last time their team had a 3-1 lead in a playoff series.

After Dave Ellett scored in double overtime in Game 4 of their first-round matchup against the Edmonton Oilers in 1990, Jets 1.0 went on to lose three consecutive games, continuing their decade-long heartbreak against their hated rival.

The other time the Jets were up 3-1 in the postseason, against the Vancouver Canucks in 1992, they promptly went on a three-game losing streak, too.

In fact, you have to go back to Winnipeg's days in the World Hockey Association to find a killer instinct.

During the 1978-79 season, the Jets, led by super Swedes Kent Nilsson and Lars-Erik Sjoberg as well as Terry Ruskowski, took a 3-1 lead against 18-year-old Wayne Gretzky and the Oilers. They lost Game 5 on the road but locked up their third AVCO Cup championship in four years in Game 6 with a 7-3 victory.

If the Jets are to exorcise some demons Friday night against the Minnesota Wild at Bell MTS Place, they're going to have to do it without defenseman Josh Morrissey, who was suspended one game for a vicious cross-check to the face of Wild forward Eric Staal during the Jets' 2-0 victory Tuesday night.

When you factor in the absence of Toby Enstrom, who has been out for several weeks with a bad ankle; Dmitri Kulikov, who had back surgery in March; and Tyler Myers, who was hurt in Game 3, three of the Jets' top four rearguards are expected to be out for this all-important game.

"It doesn't really cross my mind," Bryan Little told The Winnipeg Sun after practice Thursday. "It's going to take a lot more for us to get nervous about that."

Staal told the Minneapolis Star Tribune that he wasn't spending any time worrying that Morrissey didn't receive a longer suspension.

"It doesn't matter," he said after Thursday's practice at Xcel Energy Center. "Regardless of what (the NHL) decided, it wouldn't have made a difference. I'm worried about trying to help our team win the game up there and take (the series) home. That's all I'm focused on."

The Jets recalled defenseman Sami Niku from the Manitoba Moose, mere hours after dipping into their farm club for fellow D-man Tucker Poolman. The young Finn made his NHL debut two weeks ago, scoring his first goal against the Montreal Canadiens.

The Wild will continue to be without two of their best players, too -- defenseman Ryan Suter, who broke an ankle April 2, and forward Zach Parise, who is out long term with a broken sternum.

Ryan Murphy will step in on the Wild blue line for Carson Soucy and play his first NHL postseason game. He told the Star Tribune that he sees a pattern.

"I actually made my NHL debut against the Winnipeg Jets, too, and my Minnesota debut against the Jets," he said. "So it's Winnipeg all the time."

After Wild are eliminated, it remains to be seen if this was Matt Cullen's last NHL game.

Apr 20, 2018

  :coffee: .....
WINNIPEG—Matt Cullen skated off the ice Friday night at Bell MTS Place.

He tapped his stick on the ice three times as teammate Marcus Foligno patted him on the shoulder.

It wasn't lost on Minnesota Wild players that their 5-0 loss to the Winnipeg Jets—a team that didn't exist when Cullen first stepped foot into the NHL 20 years ago—could be the final game of the Moorhead, Minn., product's remarkable NHL career.

The 41-year-old Cullen wasn't ready to make any decisions on his future immediately after the game. He said he'll take time to make a decision as he's done the past three summers.

"I don't know," Cullen said. "My only thought here the last while was getting it back home for Game 6. To be real honest, I don't have an answer for you right now. I have some family in Chicago for a hockey tournament, some in Moorhead for a hockey tournament and some in Minneapolis. So, we need some time to get away from it all. As I've said in the past, it's an important decision to me and my family, so we'll give it its rightful due."

The last three summers, Cullen went through this same process and decided to return for another year.

He signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2015 and won his second Stanley Cup the following spring. He signed a one-year deal with the Penguins again in the summer of 2016 and his third Stanley Cup last spring.

Last summer, he signed with his home-state Minnesota Wild, hoping to bring the Twin Cities its first Stanley Cup. But that journey ended in a rowdy Bell MTS Place, where the Jets won their 12th-straight home game to eliminate the Wild in five games.

Cullen is already the oldest player in the NHL at 41 years, 167 days. He's one of two players from his 1996 draft class still playing. The other is Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara.

Cullen finished this season with 22 points in 79 games, his lowest point total since 2003-04, when he had 19 points in 56 games for the Florida Panthers.

Friday's game was a disaster from the start for the Wild. They gave up four goals in the opening 12 minutes.

"It's really disappointing," Cullen said. "I don't think that's indicative of the team we have. It's just a really tough night. Obviously, with our backs against the wall, we expected more and hoped for more. If we could do it all over again, we'd like to give more. But I don't think it was a lack of effort, honestly. I just think we were on our heels a little bit. They're a good team. They played well and we didn't."

At the end of the game, Cullen didn't give any obvious signs on what he may be thinking.

On his final shift, he tried to set up a teammate cutting down the slot, then casually made a line change with 2:19 to go.

After the final buzzer, he went through the handshake line, skated to the linesmen to shake their hands, then circled around the arena, jumped over a TV cord and tracked down the referees to shake their hands, too. He was the only player to do so.

As he left the ice, his teammates showed their appreciation for him with pats and hugs.

Then, Cullen gave his assessment of the game to assembled media.

"They came out and they were going pretty good and we were not," Cullen said. "We were just caught on our heels and they took advantage of that. After that, they did a great job shutting it down."

  ...
Now the question awaits: Will Cullen, after 20 years, eight NHL teams, 1,573 NHL games, 128 playoff games, 278 goals, 769 points and three Stanley Cups, shut it down?
