Injured Treadwell sits out practice following Monday fight training-087

:doah: "Stupid is as stupid does" :moon:

8/3/17

 :coffee: .....
MANKATO, Minn. — Vikings wide receiver Laquon Treadwell sat out practice Wednesday, Aug. 3, after apparently being hurt during a Monday practice fight with safety Antone Exum. :bonk:

The two players exchanged shoves and punches and wrestled on the ground after Treadwell beat Exum for a touchdown pass and threw his arms up in celebration. :banghead:

Head coach Mike Zimmer said he doesn't know how long Treadwell will be out. :angry2:

"You never want to get hurt in practice, especially doing something like that,'' said Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph. "It's hard enough to stay healthy in this game as it is. You kind of tell people all the time, 100 percent you're going to get hurt in football. ... If you can avoid the silly (injuries), then you can avoid kind of the ones you really don't have to deal with.''

Treadwell, who took Tuesday off from training camp with the rest of the team, declined to comment on the injury Wednesday.

"Ask the coaches," he said. "I have to go to treatment." :embarrassed:

Asked if Treadwell was hurt in the skirmish, Zimmer said, "I don't know.''

Also sitting out Wednesday were tackle Riley Reiff (back), linebacker Kentrell Brothers (hamstring) and cornerback Tre Roberson (undisclosed), and running back Jerick McKinnon (leg) was limited.

Zimmer expects Reiff, who was hurt in last Thursday's first camp practice with veterans, will be back in a few days.

Hunter to start?

It seems inevitable that Danielle Hunter will replace Brian Robison as a starting defensive end, but Zimmer isn't ready yet to say that will happen.

"We'll continue to look at it,'' Zimmer said. "We haven't made any decisions. B-Rob's going to play and Danielle's going to play.''

Hunter led the Vikings with 12 1/2 sacks last season while not starting a game. Robison, a starter since 2011, has been realistic since the end of last season about the possibly he could be replaced.

"(Hunter's) out there with the first team right now, he's doing at lot of good things for them,'' Robison said. "At the end of the day, it's about making sure we're the best football team we can be. It's not about me, it's not about Danielle, it's about the Minnesota Vikings as a whole.''

Minnesota's first depth chart is expected to be released early next week.

Diggs more confident

Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs felt pretty good about his abilities in his first two seasons. Now, Zimmer says that's even more the case.

Treadwell... What a head case!  I'll bet his "treatment" is more like detention for being stupid.

Ex-players say that stuff happens all the time in training camp.  But I'll bet it happen a lot more in the past than it does now.  Most of the coaches and players are smart enough to remember there is so much money at stake that you can't afford to get hurt doing something dumb.

Remember Toby Gerhart's rookie training camp?  The veterans welcomed him to the NFL by pounding the snot out of him.  I remember Payton Manning saying that same year that the Colts didn't haze rookies.  He said they needed those guys to come up to speed quick, stay healthy, and be ready to help the team win.

The way I heard it on KFAN is that Exum was defending him and Treadwell made the nice catch and was celebrating some and Exum started pushing and throwing punches but most were not connecting.  Treadwell threw a few punches back and a couple of his connected.  The KFAN guys suspect Treadwell may have hurt his hand doing it.  ?????

Dalvin Cook, running back, Minnesota Vikings

Adrian Peterson who? That might be the sentiment around the Vikings camp with this rookie turning heads in grand fashion. Cook also benefits in absorbing more attention with fellow running back Latavius Murray sidelined on the PUP list. The Vikings’ 2017 second-round pick “gets it” according to comments veteran players are making about Cook, per Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. It might not take much for Cook to oust Murray out of the starting job in the upcoming weeks.

Minnesota Vikings: Danielle Hunter, defensive end

 Nice Review :happy1:

  :coffee: .....
Whew. Here’s a dude that put up 12.5 sacks as a 21-year-old sophomore last season with the Vikings. He did so in a part-time role with Brian Robison taking on a full-time role. That’s no longer going to be the case in 2017. Minnesota has finally bitten the bullet and expects Hunter to play a whole lot more in his third season. If that’s the case, this absolutely freakish former Tennessee standout could end up becoming one of the most dominant defenders in the game this year.

Teddy Bridgewater advocating trade to the Dolphins?

8/5/17

 :reporter; ......
In this new Internet world, no actiton from a celebrity will go unnoticed. Whether we believe Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is actually a celebrity remains to be seen. But within the confines of the Twin Cities, he surely is.

So when Bridgewater liked a tweet sent out by former Vikings cornerback Demarcus VanDyke late Thursday night, we surely had to pay attention. The tweet in and of itself advocated for Minnesota to send Bridgewater to the Miami Dolphins. :moon:

While Teddy has since “unliked” the tweet, AJ Mansour over at KFAN in Minnesota has photo evidence.

Why is this a big deal? Is it a big deal? Are we making something out of absolutely nothing?

There’s a few things to look at here. First off, the Dolphins could very well be without starting quarterback Ryan Tannehill for the entire 2017 season after he injured his knee on Thursday … :doah: hours before Bridgewater liked the aforementioned tweet. And while Miami has been primarily linked to Jay Cutler, there are other opportunities out there for the team.

Secondly, Bridgewater is seemingly stuck in a backup role behind Sam Bradford in Minnesota. The former Louisville standout injured his knee in an ugly-looking incident last summer and has yet to return to the field.

There could be some frustration over Minnesota moving on from Bridgewater, but he’s surely not ready to return to the field right now. That could potentially limit Miami’s short-term interest in Bridgewater.

Finally, Bridgewater is a native of South Beach and played football at Miami Northwestern High School. It would surely be a homecoming of sorts for him. :cheerleader:

Yeah, it’s all fun and games on the Internet until the Internet itself makes a big ado about nothing (ourselves included). No matter how unrealistic it seems, it’s still a fun scenario to look at. :happy1:

Ya it was sort of tough to stay with it.  I have always hoped Heineke comes around.  He is very athletic and supposedly has a Favre type of approach whatever that means.  He looked pretty rusty last night.  Keenan looked pretty good as he played for awhile.  The Oline sucked right away but I thought once Keenan got in there they got a little better.  The D got better as the game went on. SO it sounds like you missed the best part Rebs...   :rotflmao: :rotflmao:  They talked to Zim at half time and he said something like "no they look real bad, they need to do what we taught them to do.  :rotflmao: So I enjoyed it BUT I am very biased and will admit it.

Vikings sign running back Bronson Hill over David Cobb

8/12/17 update:

 :coffee: .....
The Vikings signed running back Bronson Hill on Saturday to replace the injured Bishop Sankey.

Hill had worked out along with former University of Minnesota star David Cobb, and the Vikings went with Hill.

Former University of Minnesota running back David Cobb, right, talks with Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer, left, during Minnesota pro day in Minneapolis, Monday, March 2, 2015. (AP Photo/Ann Heisenfelt)
Hill replaces on the roster Sankey, who was waived with an injury designation after suffering a season-ending knee injury in Thursday’s 17-10 win at Buffalo in the preseason opener. Sankey, who suffered a torn right ACL, will go on injured reserve after he clears waivers.

Hill was undrafted in 2015 out of Eastern Michigan and has had NFL stints with Buffalo, Chicago, Miami, New Orleans, Cincinnati and Jacksonville. He got his only NFL regular-season action in the 2016 finale for the Jaguars, carrying two times for 11 yards.

Hill took to the field Saturday for his first practice with the Vikings.

 :coffee: ...
“We just met him when he came out there,” said Minnesota running back Jerick McKinnon. “So it’s a new guy. He’ll have a lot to learn. The running backs, we welcomed him with open arms.”

The Vikings were thin Thursday at running back with Sankey hurt and Latavius Murray and Jerick McKinnon sitting out. Murray on Saturday had his third practice since returning last Monday from ankle surgery, but didn’t do any team drills.

McKinnon, who was resting a right leg injury that wasn’t fully healed, was a full participant Saturday. He said he’s “feeling good,” but doesn’t now if he’ll play Friday at Seattle in the second preseason game.

Injuries strike Vikings offensive line again :doah:

Aug 15, 2017 at 8:05 p.m.

 :coffee: ...
Minnesota Vikings offensive guard Alex Boone (75) against the Buffalo Bills at New Era Field in Orchard Park, N.Y. on Aug. 10, 2017. Timothy T. Ludwig / USA TODAY SportsMINNEAPOLIS — The left side of the Vikings' offensive line is down another man. :banghead:

Left guard Alex Boone did not practice Tuesday, Aug. 15 for the second straight workout after missing Sunday's practice. His left knee was wrapped in a bandage when he left after stretching.

With Boone out, Nick Easton and Pat Elflein both saw time at left guard. Easton and Elflein also both got work at center, where they are battling for the starting job.

Left tackle Riley Reiff continued working his way back into the first team after missing 11 days because of a back injury.

Meanwhile, receiver Laquon Treadwell practiced for the first time since injuring his hamstring July 31. He was limited but managed to get in a few team snaps.

"I'm not fully back yet but I was able to get a few reps in; that's always good," said Treadwell, who was having a solid camp entering his pivotal second season before getting hurt.

He hopes to be healthy enough to travel with the Vikings to Seattle for Friday night's second preseason, game against the Seahawks.

"It felt good to be back on the field competing," he said. "It could be worse. A lot of guys are going through things worse than a hamstring."

Cornerback Trae Waynes did not practice again because of a shoulder injury he suffered in last week's 17-10 victory at Buffalo. :doah:

Safety Andrew Sendejo (undisclosed injury) also was sidelined while defensive end Everson Griffen was absent. :mad1:

Zimmer being cautious

 :coffee: ......
Injuries are the preseason boogeyman for every NFL head coach as he considers how much to play his regulars in meaningless exhibitions against preparing them for the rigors of the 16-game regular season.

The Los Angeles Chargers already have lost three starters and their two top rookies, including leading tackler Denzel Perryman, the play-calling linebacker who was carted off the field Sunday night with an ankle injury in their new home stadium.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is weighing several factors for Minnesota's second preseason game Friday in Seattle. Facing one of the NFL's toughest defenses in a notoriously raucous stadium presents a unique opportunity to challenge more inexperienced players trying to earn a roster spot.

"We may," he said before practice Tuesday. "I haven't told the coaches what I'm going to do for the game. I do think it's going to give us a chance to evaluate a lot of guys. You can see them against better players. So we might get some of the younger guys in there a little bit earlier. We still have to continue to get ready for the regular season."

Zimmer certainly wants to see more out of his first-team offense, which sputtered in the first quarter of last week's 17-10 victory at Buffalo.
"I'd like to see them do better. I feel like we've got to develop a rhythm here and get going from there," he said.

Starters typically play until halftime of the second preseason game and a series or two into the third quarter of the third preseason game.

But the boogeyman lingers for coaches who risk too much in the name of preparation.

"Honestly, I'm really weighing that a lot," Zimmer said about limiting his starters' playing time. "My concern is how much do we weigh the guys I really know and I've got a pretty good idea if they can play if I'm (just) playing them to play? And the backfire to that is really are they going to be in shape for Sept. 11? That's something I'm contemplating right now."

  :reporter;  More Vikes' updates .....

DE Everson Griffen missed practice Tuesday, but returned Wednesday and participated. He could be rested Friday night. The Vikings know what they have in Griffen. The Pro Bowler is in peak condition and looks as fast as ever. He had a sack in the preseason opener at Buffalo.

WR Laquon Treadwell returned to practice after missing several days and the preseason opener because of a hamstring injury. He should be able to play Friday at Seattle. Last year's first-round draft pick needs to start proving he can stay healthy enough to contribute. Injuries played a big role in him having only one catch as a rookie.

SS Andrew Sendejo missed practice this week and will not play at Seattle. With Sendejo out, the team has been taking rotating looks at injury-prone Antone Exum Jr., second-year pro Jayron Kearse and third-year pro Anthony Harris. Kearse is big and powerful, but still raw. Harris, who went undrafted out of Virginia, has become a leader on special teams. Exum missed all of last season because of an injury.

CB Trae Waynes, who injured his shoulder on the first play of the preseason opener at Buffalo, did not practice this week and will not play at Seattle. Waynes has been groomed to take over the starting left corner job this season. With him out, the Vikings have turned back to longtime veteran Terence Newman. Newman played well last season, but the team is trying to limit his reps as he gets set to turn 39 on Sept. 4.

:reporter;    NFL: Vikings sign former Gophers QB Leidner

By The Sports Exchange  Today at 5:30 a.m.

 :coffee: .....
The Minnesota Vikings signed former University of Minnesota quarterback Mitch Leidner on Sunday.

The 6-foot-3, 228-pound Leidner joins the Vikings as the team's fifth quarterback after not being selected in this year's draft. He attended the Baltimore Ravens' rookie minicamp but did not sign with the team.

  .....
Leidner, 23, completed his collegiate career at Minnesota ranked second in passing attempts (1,029) and completions (580), ranked third in passing yards (7,287) and fifth in passing touchdowns (36).

Quarterbacks Sam Bradford, Case Keenum and Taylor Heinicke played against the Seahawks on Friday night. Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater remains on the physically unable to perform list after dislocating his left knee and tearing the ACL at the outset of training camp in 2016.

After the 20-13 loss against the Seahawks on Friday night, Vikings coach Mike Zimmer was asked about the play of backup quarterbacks Keenum and Heinicke.

"We'll have to continue to look," Zimmer said. "I don't think anything is decided yet. We've still got some more time to figure it out."

Keenum was 12 of 18 for 70 yards and Heinicke was 6 of 9 for 84 yards with one touchdown and an interception against the Seahawks.

The Vikings have two more preseason games against the San Francisco 49ers on Aug. 27 and Miami Dolphins on Aug. 31

Leidner joins two fellow Golden Gophers, wide receiver Isaac Fruechte and cornerback Marcus Sherels, on the Vikings' roster. :happy1:

Minnesota waived linebacker Darnell Sankey  to create room for Leidner on the roster.

:reporter; Vikings' Zimmer: 'There's a possibility' Bridgewater returns this season.

 :coffee: ...
The Minnesota Vikings have been careful not to put a concrete timetable on Teddy Bridgewater's return, opting to manage expectations as the quarterback rehabs from his devastating August 2016 knee injury.

However, Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer seemingly admitted for the first time Saturday that Bridgewater has a chance to play in 2017 ;)

 :happy1: ....
"Every day he gets a little bit better," Zimmer told FOX Sports, according to Scout.com's Tim Yotter. "He believes 100 percent in his heart he's going to overcome this. There's a possibility he could get back this year."

 :tut: .....
While Zimmer is still exercising caution while discussion Bridgewater, the Vikings' public acknowledgement of a potential return this campaign is a significant step.

Bridgewater remains on the physically unable to perform list, and will need to be activated before the regular season or he'll be sidelined for the first six games.

Sam Bradford is set for his second season as Minnesota's starter in Bridgewater's absence.

:reporter;   Leidner likely to make Vikings debut in exhibition final.

8/30/17

 :coffee: .....
MINNEAPOLIS — Mitch Leidner made sure to soak up the moment a few hours before the Vikings' exhibition game against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Aug. 27 at U.S. Bank Stadium.

 :smoking: ....
While he knew he probably wasn't going to play, simply putting on the pads and warming up with the Vikings was a dream come true for the former Gophers quarterback from Lakeville.

"It's everything I could've asked for, being in that situation and hoping to get that phone call and get an opportunity," said Leidner, who was working part time for Bite Squad, a food delivery company, before signing. "I've been really fortunate, and I'm very thankful to the Vikings for giving me this opportunity. I've really enjoyed it so far."

  ..........
Leidner was a four-year starter with the Gophers who signed as an undrafted free agent last week. He has a zero percent chance of making the Vikings' 53-man roster. But there's almost a 100 percent chance he plays in Thursday night's preseason finale against the Miami Dolphins.

Remember, Joel Stave and Brad Sorensen split reps at quarterback in the Vikings' preseason finale last season.

"I have no idea," Leidner said when asked if he will play Thursday. "I haven't heard anything."

 :bonk: .....
Still, there's no way the Vikings are going to risk starting quarterback Sam Bradford getting injured a little more than a week before the season opener, :banghead: and backup Case Keenum likely will play only a couple of series before he's taken out.

That leaves Taylor Heinicke, who led a game-winning drive against the 49ers, and Leidner to finish out the game.

"It's a great opportunity for him," Keenum said. "I was a local kid. I went to Houston and then was signed by the Texans. I know exactly what he's going through. It's really cool that he gets to come out here and have the horns on his helmet and get to compete with us."

His best outcome would be to earn a spot on the Vikings' practice squad. :happy1:

Leidner went undrafted after an four-year career with the Gophers in which he passed for 7,287 yards, with 36 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.

Both sides of the spectrum were on display at practice Tuesday, with Leidner looking sharp at times and less so other times; he threw what would have been a pick-six had cornerback Mackensie Alexander been able to haul in the errant pass.

After practice, Leidner stayed on the field an extra 15 minutes to get reps with tight end Josiah Price. He is doing everything he can do make the team, no matter the odds.

"I'm just focused on coming out here and getting better every day," Leidner said. "It's pretty crazy how far I've come in a week. I'm really starting to get the playbook down and figure out what's going on. ... It's been going good."
 :happy1:

Zimmer will use final preseason game to finalize Vikings starters.

8/29/17

 :reporter; ....
MINNEAPOLIS — Starters usually don't play in the final preseason game, but that might not matter to Vikings coach Mike Zimmer.

Still steaming :taz: from a lackluster first half Sunday, Aug. 27 against San Francisco, Zimmer didn't rule out playing some starters Thursday against Miami at U.S. Bank Stadium.

"I've made up my mind, but I haven't told the team yet or anything like that," Zimmer said Tuesday. "I haven't told the coaches yet, either. After the other night, I feel like they should play, but we'll see."

Although the Vikings beat the 49ers 32-31 at U.S. Bank Stadium, they fell behind 14-0 while starters played the first half. In 12 preseason possessions, the Vikings' first-team offense has managed to score just three points, and quarterback Sam Bradford has been sacked five times.

Zimmer said he has settled on his starting offensive line but declined to reveal the lineup. In the battle to start at center between rookie Pat Elflein and Nick Easton, Zimmer told NBC sideline reporter Michele Tayofa at halftime Sunday he had made up his mind without naming the winner.

According to Pro Football Focus, Elflein had by far the better game against the 49ers, rated a 70.7 to Easton's 37.3.

  ....
Elflein got most of the first-team snaps in practice Tuesday while Easton played right guard in place of Joe Berger, who sat out team drills. Other first-teamers in practice were left tackle Riley Reiff, left guard Alex Boone and right tackle Mike Remmers.

The only position on defense that appears open is weak-side linebacker. Edmond Robinson started the first exhibition, Ben Gedeon the next two. Emmanuel Lamur also is in the mix, but he didn't practice Tuesday after leaving the 49ers game in the third quarter to be evaluated for a concussion.

"This will be a good week to get these guys in there one more time and finish the process," Zimmer said.

Zimmer didn't deny Gedeon might end be better suited as a middle linebacker.

"But we're just trying to get the guys in there that can play, and I figure if we're playing 30 percent base, it's a chance to get him in the game more," the coach said.

Competition continues between kickers Kai Forbath and Marshall Koehn, and punters Ryan Quigley and rookie Taylor Symmank. Jerick McKinnon might have nailed down the kick-returner job after an 108-yard touchdown return against the 49ers.

The Vikings must cut their roster from 90 to the regular-season limit of 53 by Saturday. And even if Zimmer does use some starters against the Dolphins, they don't figure to be in there long. :tut:

"(Thursday's game is) going to be extremely important," said rookie defensive end Tashawn Bower. "(Reserves are) going to have a lot more plays and we're not going to have as much rest. That's why you really need to stay in shape and do your assignments."

Roster decisions will be tough on the defensive line. Bower is in good shape but still might be competing with rookie Ifeadi Obdigndo at end. At tackle, Will Sutton and Datone Jones might be competing for a final roster spot.

The tight end is a battle worth watching. :happy1: Rookie Bucky Hodges and Kyle Carter are vying for a third and possible final spot, although the Vikings might keep three tight ends behind starter Kyle Rudolph.

"A lot of starters are not going to play this week, so that gives a lot of opportunity for the young guys to step up and make plays like myself," Hodges said. "It's the last preseason game. I just want to showcase what I can do."

:reporter; Report: Vikings cut starting OG Alex Boone.

 :doah: .....
In a stunning bit of news Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings have reportedly cut starting guard Alex Boone has started 73 games the past five years with the San Francisco 49ers and Vikings. He was a highly prized free agent acquisition by Minnesota last spring, signing a four-year deal worth $26.8 million.

 :embarrassed: .....
He was very much a disappointment last year, as was Minnesota’s offensive line as a whole. The Vikings are obviously ready to simply move on from their mistake. :bonk:

            You be da Judge!

Why we’re going all the way

The Vikings are on the short list of the best defenses in the NFL. The defense is going to carry them, and the belief is that the team has done enough with the offense this offseason. The Vikings shored up the offensive line and added a dynamic playmaker in Dalvin Cook to ensure that the defense doesn’t have to spend an inordinate amount of time on the field like it did toward the end of last season. If they can achieve that balance, the Vikings will be in for a big season in 2017.

The season is hopeless if [THIS] happens
The big thing that derailed the Vikings’ season last year was injuries, particularly along the offensive line. The team should have better depth this season, but even then, the Vikings wouldn’t be able to withstand the sort of injury issues they had in 2016. With the talent on this team from top to bottom, the injury bug is just about the only thing that can derail them.

Who is your biggest rival and why?
It’s probably the Packers, even though most of us understand that we’re not their biggest rival. Obviously, having them only about a four-hour drive away means that there are a lot of turncoats -- er, rival fans -- in the Twin Cities area, and they’ve had a good run over the past few years. All of that combines to make it a pretty miserable experience, but hopefully the tide will start turning the other direction here soon.

Tailgate food that best describes your team?
Barbecue chicken wings. Sure, they start off hot and delicious and make you feel really good for a while, but eventually they get all cold and things get all messy and the next thing you know you’ve got nothing but bones and carnage all around you and you’re wondering what happened. That pretty well sums up the Vikings’ 2016 season, actually.

What does your team do better than anyone else?

Finding new and creative ways to kick their fans directly in the teeth on a regular basis. Sure, some teams may have the occasional epic loss, but the Vikings have managed to turn it into an art form. :angry2:

:coffee: Eleven rookies make Vikings' final 53-man roster

Sep 2, 2017 at 10:35 p.m.

  ...
Minnesota Vikings center Pat Elflein (65) snaps the ball against the Seattle Seahawks during a preseason game last month in Seattle. Elflein, a a third-round draft pick out of Ohio State, was one of 11 rookies to make the Vikings' final 53-man roster. Kirby Lee / USA TODAY SportsMINNEAPOLIS

The theme of the Vikings' roster is :dancinred: yout. :blues brothers:

The 53-man unit was set Saturday, and 11 rookies made it, :happy1: including three who were undrafted. In the surprise move of the day, the Vikings released an eight-year veteran in Alex Boone, 30, who had been their starting left guard.

Boone was let go after declining to take a pay cut. Of Boone's $6.6 million salary for 2007, $3.4 million of it is guaranteed, and will count against the Vikings' salary cap. He also already has earned a $100,000 workout bonus.

The move assures that rookie Pat Elflein, who had been battling Nick Easton for the job, will be the starting center, with Easton shifting to left guard to replace Boone. The other starters on a reconstructed offensive line will be left tackle Riley Reiff, right guard Joe Berger and right tackle Mike Remmers.

Elflein is one of the three selections from April's draft in line to start as rookies. Running back Dalvin Cook is a lock to open Monday, Sept. 11, against New Orleans at U.S. Bank Stadium, and weak-side linebacker Ben Gedeon is also likely to start after getting the nod in the last three preseason games.

The Vikings officially announced Saturday a trade agreed to Friday to send a seventh-round draft pick in 2018 to Seattle for cornerback Tramaine Brock. They officially announced the release of 34 players, although 14 of the moves had been reported Friday by the Pioneer Press.

The Vikings placed quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, out since suffering a torn left ACL and dislocated knee Aug. 30, 2016, in practice, on the physically unable to perform list to start the season. He can't practice or play for the first six weeks. :banghead:

The Vikings put defensive tackle Datone Jones on injured reserve with a shoulder injury, and could work out an injury settlement to release him. They kept defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, who has a knee injury, on the reserve/non-football injury list. And wide receiver Michael Floyd, serving an NFL suspension for the first four games, was placed on the suspended list.

Quarterback Taylor Heinicke and wide receiver. R.J. Shelton were waived with injury designations. Heinicke suffered a mild concussion in Thursday's preseason finale against Miami and has been dealing with a strained right oblique muscle. Shelton suffered a fractured foot against the Dolphins.

The Vikings are not going with young players for their specialists, however. In expected outcomes, kicker Kai Forbath beat out Marshall Koehn and punter Ryan Quigley won the battle with rookie Taylor Symmank.

Other drafted rookies on the 53-man roster are defensive tackle Jaleel Johnson, guard Danny Isidora, wide receivers Rodney Adams and Stacy Coley and tight end Bucky Hodges. Defensive end Tashawn Bower, linebacker Eric Wilson and tackle Aviante Collins made it as undrafted rookies.
Three seventh-round picks from April, though, were cut. They were defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo, linebacker Elijah Lee and safety Jack Tocho.

"I'm disappointed," Odenigbo said. "I tried. There's still lots I can improve... I still think I should have been on the 53-man roster. ... We have quite a bit of D-ends, but I happen to be the odd man out."

It's a young middle of the offensive line with Elflein, 23, and Easton, 25, a third-year man who played in his first 11 NFL regular-season games last year. However, NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth said at recent Vikings practice he was "really impressed" with how Elflein looked at center and Easton at left guard in an Aug. 18 preseason game at Seattle.

That game marked the top performance of the preseason by the line, and played a role in Boone's release. Boone, who signed a four-year, $26.8 million contract with the Vikings in March 2016, sat out that night with knee injury.

Along with Boone, other veteran players cut by the Vikings included cornerback Jabari Price, a 2014 draftee; center Zac Kerin, undrafted in 2014; and linebacker Edmond Robinson and offensive linemen T.J. Clemmings and Austin Shepherd, all 2015 selections.

Players with local ties let go were former University of Minnesota quarterback Mitch Leidner and wide receiver Isaac Fruechte and cornerback Terrell Sinkfield, a Minnetonka native.

Another young player to make the 53-man roster was fullback C.J. Ham. Although he's not a rookie, he didn't get into any games last season after being an undrafted free agent.

Great work with the Viking updates Lee!!!  Yes Boone was a bust, but who knows there could have been other issues like being injured a lot.  I'm glad they are keeping more rookies.  Keep that team young with some proven veterans to guide them along.  Zimmer is a good coach and nobody wants to win more than him.  Teddy must be improving since they are keeping him on the pup squad.  So I"m optimistic.  good luck.

Vikings claim TE Blake Bell off waivers, get QB Kyle Sloter for practice squad

September 4, 2017

The Vikings spent Sunday looking to beef up their passing game.
They might have helped it for now by claiming tight end Blake Bell off waivers from San Francisco. They might have helped it for the future by agreeing to a practice-squad deal with quarterback Kyle Sloter that will pay him $20,000 a week, nearly triple the minimum salary.

“They put their money where their mouth was, and that meant a lot to me,” Sloter said.

  ...
To make room for Bell on the roster, the Vikings waived rookie tight end Bucky Hodges with an injury designation. Hodges left in the first half of last Thursday’s preseason finale against Miami to be evaluated for a concussion. :doofus:

 :coffee: ....
The Vikings also added to the practice squad seven players they cut Saturday: defensive end Ifeadi Odenigbo and linebacker Elijah Lee, both seventh-round picks last April, and defensive tackle Dylan Bradley, tight end Kyle Carter, running back Bronson Hill, wide receiver Cayleb Jones and cornerback Horace Richardson. After Sloter signs, they will have two spots open on the 10-man squad.

Bell caught just four passes last season for the 49ers but had 15 receptions for 186 yards as a rookie in 2015 when the tight ends coach was Tony Sparano. He is now Minnesota’s offensive line coach.

Bell provides additional experience behind starting tight end Kyle Rudolph. Backup David Morgan is a second-year man who had just one catch as a rookie.

Sloter, an undrafted rookie from Northern Colorado who was waived Saturday by Denver, gives the Vikings a third quarterback in practice behind starter Sam Bradford and backup Case Keenum. With their deal of $20,000, nearly triple the practice-squad minimum of $7,200 a week, the Vikings were able to outbid the Broncos, Washington, Philadelphia and Atlanta for Sloter.

  .....
“I just weighed my options, and felt like Minnesota was the best opportunity for me to further my career,” Sloter said. “It just made the most sense financially. They were really aggressive with coming after me, and I think for any player it means a lot when a team comes after you like that.“They told me they weren’t focusing their efforts on any other quarterback. … They told me that they watched all of my snaps during this preseason, and also as far as going back and watching all my college tapes. It just felt like a place where I was wanted.”

Sloter went the entire way in Denver’s 30-2 win over Arizona in the preseason finale, completing 15 of 23 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown with a solid passer rating of 110.8. He was let go when the Broncos agreed to sign free-agent quarterback Brock Osweiler.

“They told me that had Osweiler not been available, they were looking at keeping me on the 53-man (roster), but I understand it’s a business,” Sloter said. “‘I enjoyed my time (in Denver), but I’m excited to be (in Minnesota), and I’m ready to get to work.”

By choosing Sloter, the Vikings didn’t sign to the practice squad undrafted University of Minnesota rookie quarterback Mitch Leidner, who was waived Saturday after playing the entire second half in the 30-9 loss to the Dolphins and generally doing well. The move also calls into question the Minnesota future for quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

Heinicke, who suffered a mild concussion against the Dolphins, was waived Saturday with an injury designation and cleared waivers Sunday to land on injured reserve. Rookie wide receiver R.J. Shelton, who suffered a fractured foot against Miami, also cleared waivers and was placed on injured reserve.

Three players Minnesota had waived Saturday were claimed, with guard T.J. Clemmings going to Washington, linebacker Edmond Robinson to the New York Jets and center Zac Kerin to Detroit. The Vikings wanted Robinson for the practice squad had he not been claimed.

A source said the Vikings paid Lee a bit more than the $7,200 minimum to stick around after San Francisco and Buffalo expressed interest in putting him on a practice squad.

The Vikings had waived three draft choices, all seventh-round selections. While Lee and Odenigbo landed on the practice squad, safety Jack Tocho was not offered a spot.

UNDRAFTED PLAYERS:

When the Vikings named their 53-man roster Saturday, it featured 11 rookies, including three undrafted players: Defensive end Tashawn Bower from LSU, tackle Aviante Collins from TCU and linebacker Eric Wilson from Cincinnati.

“It’s just really a blessing,” Wilson said. “That’s the least I can say. I wouldn’t say I was surprised. I’ve been working really hard for a long time.’’

The Vikings have 18 undrafted players on the 53-man roster. One who made it Saturday was fullback C.J. Ham, who spent last season as a rookie on the practice squad before he was put on the roster for the final two games but didn’t play.

“My family and I are very blessed to have this opportunity,” Ham said. “Nothing is guaranteed in the league so I’m going to do all I can to help our team win games. This is a great organization and I’m very happy to be here.” :happy1:

Former Vikings LB Chad Greenway says "Alex Boone cut for being out of shape". :pouty:

 UPDATED: September 8, 2017 at 3:16 pm

 :coffee: ....
Greenway retired last season after 11 years with the Vikings. He played one year with Boone after the guard had signed a four-year, $26.8 million contract as a free agent in March 2016.

Former Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway said in a radio interview Friday that guard Alex Boone was released because he was out of shape.

 :reporter; ....
The Vikings let Boone go when they cut the roster down to 53 players last Saturday, paying him $3.4 million in guaranteed money on his $6.6 million deal for 2017.

“I had heard through some players that I know that are out there every day that said he came back not the Alex Boone of old, a little bit out of shape, and wasn’t really prepared for the season, and I thought that was pretty interesting,” :doah: Greenway said on KFAN.

  ..
“It really did surprise me,” Greenway said on Boone being released. “I like Boone. I played with him last year. I thought he brought a really good mentality to the offensive line…. I am surprised they ate that much guaranteed money, but that tells me that something was clearly off with his game, with his style of play, that they said, ‘We have to just eat this and move on and go to a younger player and see how that works.’ ”

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer would not say Friday whether what Greenway said is accurate.

“I don’t know that Chad was in any of the meetings or the other players when we talked about the cut to 53,” Zimmer said.

Replacing Boone, 30, at left guard is Nick Easton, 25, who started the final five games last season at center. Pat Elflein has taken over as the starting center.

Greenway liked the job Easton did at center. He was surprised to see him moved to left guard, and wondered how he will fit in with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur’s attack, which includes plenty of screens and outside runs.

                 More.....  Good News! :banghead:

The Vikings are paying big bucks to another departed player.

Vikings reach injury settlement with Datone Jones, pockets at least $1.8 million .

9/8/17

 :coffee: .....
Minnesota on Friday agreed to an injury settlement with defensive tackle Datone Jones, placed last Saturday on injured reserve with a shoulder problem. Jones apparently departs with at least $1.838 million for this season.

The Vikings last Saturday released guard Alex Boone, and will pay him $3.4 million of his $6.6 million salary for 2017. Boone, who signed a one-year deal earlier this week with Arizona, also got a $100,000 workout bonus.

Jones received a $1.6 million bonus when he signed with the Vikings last March, and that will count against their salary cap. He also got a $150,000 workout bonus and was in line to receive at least one game check of $88,235. Jones had a $1.5 million nonguaranteed base salary, and it was unclear if he will be paid for any additional weeks.

Being placed on injured reserve meant Jones wouldn’t play this season for Minnesota, but his injury is not believed to be serious and he now can play for another team. Jones apparently was hurt Aug. 27 against San Francisco, and then sat out the Aug. 31 preseason finale against Miami.

Jones was beaten out for the backup spot at three-technique defensive tackle by rookie Jaleel Johnson, who was drafted a month after Jones was signed following four years with Green Bay.

Its not incompetence when you know exactly what you are doing.  The refs gave the Packers the homer calls.  Sad to see with so much riding on each NFL football game - emotionally and financially - but there is no other way to explain it.  I agree with what the announcer's said, "I wouldn't want to be the one at the NFL front office who has to take Pete Carroll's call Monday morning."

:reporter; Adrian Peterson learning what he should have known:

Saints don't care about his feelings! :moon:

It wasn't a homecoming. It was humiliation. :pouty:

  .....
So much so that Adrian Peterson should give serious consideration to immediate retirement.  :surrender:

 :doah: .....
Peterson not only failed to log extensive snaps against his former team in his Saints debut. He was forced to watch Dalvin Cook, a younger, cheaper and, at this point, better version of himself, break his Vikings rushing record for a rookie debut (127 yards) during Monday night’s 29-19 loss.
That onto itself was brutal. But there’s more. ......

MORE: Saints-Vikings highlights, stats

The only guy who had a worse Monday night on the sideline was Sergio Dipp. Peterson's frustration at not playing more became the game’s big story when ESPN cameras captured him giving Saints coach Sean Payton a death stare late in the first half.

Not that it matters to Payton one iota, as Peterson will soon learn. More on that later.

Peterson and Payton tried to deny :tut: that there was even an issue during their postgame news conferences, which came across with the same legitimacy as answers at a White House press briefing.

"There's no conflict,” :taz: said Peterson, :banghead: who also took to Twitter trying to downplay the matter. "Let's not try to spin it like there is." :bs:

Even if we indulge Peterson and say there isn’t, there soon will be if he doesn't understand what life will be like in New Orleans.

The greatest athletes are also filled with great confidence. Peterson's domination through his first seven NFL seasons led him to believe anything was possible — including having a legitimate shot at Emmitt Smith’s all-time rushing record — and his ego was bloated accordingly.

That dream started becoming unrealistic a few years ago, when Peterson missed almost the entire 2014 campaign because of a domestic-abuse situation involving his son. Peterson rebounded with 1,485 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns in 2015 but then missed all but three games last season with a knee injury.

At the same time, Peterson's presence in Minnesota was placing unspoken pressure on the team's offensive coordinators to make him the main focus of the attack even though doing so limited the overall unit. That approach would have worked well in a bygone era, but not in today’s league, in which the emphasis is on throwing, and the best running backs — Zeke Elliott, Le’Veon Bell and Devonta Freeman among them — are dual threats as rushers and receivers.

The Vikings could still enjoy offensive success during Peterson's heyday with a ground-and-pound mantra that worked around his deficiencies in the passing game, and because Peterson simply was that good. The philosophy was no longer feasible as Peterson grew older and began showing wear and tear.

The fact Peterson still believed he was the same caliber runner and all that goes with that mindset contributed to Minnesota releasing him this offseason without even trying to restructure his bloated contract. The Vikings simply didn't need the headache he could become if not fed the football enough.

 :coffee: ........
The immediate lack of free-agent interest should have further given the 32-year-old a reality check. It didn't. All the things Peterson said after signing with the Saints about being a team player and willing to work in a rotation of running backs were rendered hot air with Monday night's sideline behavior.

Peterson also learned Payton doesn't care about his feelings, :moon: which he should have known before coming to the Big Easy. :bonk:

IYER: Biggest Week 1 overreactions

It's no secret that Payton believes almost every skill-position spot on his team is interchangeable besides quarterback Drew Brees. Consider some of the talent Payton has traded away during his 12 seasons as Saints coach: Brandin Cooks, Jimmy Graham, Darren Sproles, Kenny Stills — and his offense keeps ticking.

 :pouty: .....
Pouting won't do Peterson any good, either. He can ask Mark Ingram, whose bumpy relationship with Payton led to ex-Saints running back Tim Hightower being given goal-line carries in 2016, per a source.

Peterson didn't even get that opportunity against Minnesota despite his hard-charging style being well-suited for short-yardage situations. Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara were the only ones who carried on two drives inside the Vikings' 4-yard line. New Orleans was forced to settle for field goals on both possessions, as neither back could make headway, further adding to Peterson’s consternation.

There’s no guarantee Payton will handle things differently when a similar situation arises during the season. Peterson, too, showed little to indicate he deserved expanded snaps over Ingram and Kamara. After a 9-yard carry to open the game, Peterson gained 9 yards on his other five attempts.

It would behoove Payton and Peterson to meet and discuss whether the latter's limited role will continue and, if so, whether he can deal with it. Being a distraction does no good for either party or the team.

Payton clearly has an idea in mind for Peterson. Otherwise, Peterson wouldn't have remained on the Week 1 roster, which guaranteed his $1 million base salary.

Peterson's action may increase if the Saints get a lead or face an opponent that struggles to stop the run. Maybe it will take an injury to Ingram or Kamara for that to happen. Maybe Peterson becomes midseason trade bait for a team in need of running back help.

Or maybe the player nicknamed “All Day" decides to call it a day and begin the countdown to his eventual Pro Football Hall of Fame induction. The thought should at least cross his mind after Monday night's embarrassment. :embarrassed:

:reporter;  Vikings QB Sam Bradford limited in practice due to knee.

9/13/17

  ....
Here’s what could be a sobering reality for the Minnesota Vikings and quarterback Sam Bradford. Just a couple days removed from putting up the best performance of his career, Bradford was limited in practice Wednesday with what is being reported to be a knee injury.

“Bradford was limited in practice on Wednesday with a knee injury,” Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported. “It’s hard at this point to reach any conclusions regarding whether Bradford will or won’t play when the Vikings travel to Pittsburgh on Sunday.”

Well, that’s just not good news for the upstart Vikings. :bonk:

 :dancinred: .....
Bradford completed 27-of-32 passes for 346 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in a 29-19 season-opening win over New Orleans on Monday.

It’s obviously too early to tell the extent of the injury. But considering Bradford was limited and didn’t miss practice altogether, it’s probably not a serious injury.

Either way, this is something to keep an eye on throughout the remainder of the week.

Vikings Promote QB to Active Roster With Sam Bradford Questionable

 :reporter; ....

  ....
Just one day ago, there were some concerns that popped up over the state of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford's surgically repaired knee.

  ....
There was some worry about his left knee, which has suffered a torn ACL twice, which left him with a questionable designation for Week 2. However, Bradford is still expected to suit up after an MRI revealed that there was no structural damage.

The question mark on his status is still as big as ever. ??

Quarterback Kyle Sloter has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster, as Bradford's knee appears to leave his availability in question.

 :coffee: .....
With quarterback Case Keenum slotted as the primary backup to Bradford, 23-year-old Sloter, who only played one full season as a senior at Northern Colorado will be making a big jump to potentially fill the role of Keenum's backup.

Vikings promoted QB Kyle Sloter to active roster from practice squad. Sam Bradford remains questionable.

PITTSBURGH — Vikings quarterback Sam Bradford was inactive Sunday against the Pittsburgh Steelers because of a knee injury and backup Case Keenum got the start.

Bradford, limited in practice all week because of pain, discomfort and swelling in his surgically repaired left knee, tested his knee during warmups at Heinz Field, however it was ruled he would not go.

So! now smarty pants :moon: What were you saying about my false claims about Bradford not being able to play.

Today's report says that Bradford is day to day, so we'll see if he plays this weekend.

Ben Leber shared some useful insights yesterday.  Ben told of dealing with knee bone bruises during his last season of playing and said it was very painful.  And the severity and frequency of what Bradford is dealing with can be a function of how much cartilage he still has in his knees.  Sometimes the pain and swelling can be managed and sometimes it can't.  Ben said his knee issues were a significant part of his decision to retire.

The penalty's killed up.  130 yards in penalty's.  We can't miss extra points as well.  Tampa is a good team this year so it won't be easy.  On the plus side I  think we will have a good run game and we have a better defense.  I think Teddy may be back by the 6th game on the squad.  This is why Zimmer is not in the market for another QB.  Injuries play a big part in a season and it hit Bradford.  Hope for the best next Sunday.  good luck.

I see Bradford is out for this weekend.......

Worse than that...  From ESPN:

"Bradford's left knee did not respond well to practice work this week, a source told ESPN's Dan Graziano. The quarterback practiced on a limited basis Wednesday and Thursday but was not present for the portion of practice open to the media Friday morning.

He will seek a second opinion from orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews, who performed the ACL repairs in 2013 and 2014 on the same left knee that has troubled Bradford since last week and caused him to miss Friday's practice"

That is bad news!

I heard "Better call Romo," but I haven't heard "Better call Kaepernick" yet.

That is our lot in life as sports fans in Minnesota.  We would have to be the team that was forced to call Kaepernick due to a quarterback injury because everyone other QB on the free agent market was already signed.

There is now way they would sign Kaperdink.  Even if he was not a America hater he is nothing more than 3rd string and would take the season to learn the system.  They will stay the course and hope that Teddy make's it back by the 6th game.  As a veteran Kaperdink can go to hell as far as I'm concerned.  good luck.

So now watch the Packers and see how onesided the calls are for them.  When Seattle was robbed of the two TD's that was obvious as hell there must have been a gag order cuz the next week not on sports show I listened too even mentioned the two TD's that were called back which would have lost the game for GB....  Disgusting.

I was surprised that the steelers lost to the  bears.  The bears are not a good team and I think the steelers have the talent to get to the play off's.  But you never know in the NFL.  I do know that the Vikings had a great game.  Offense finally got going.  Sick of the players who kneel.  I kneel to God and stand for the flag period.

The NFL is hypocrittical at best.  There was a player who wore pink shoes because his mother died of breast cancer and he wanted to wear them the whole season.  NFL says no, only during the months it's brought up and allowed.  That's free speech.  Other players wanted to wear a 911 symbol all season to remember 911.  NFL said no, again free speech not allowed and there were more like that.  So players can dis-honor our flag and our troops and the NFL says it's free speech but other free speech is not allowed.  The left is working very hard in a variety of ways to change our heritage and morality along with it.  I"m 100 % behind Trump with this.  good luck.

I bet if I wanted to watch the game from the stands in my underwear, because I'm just expressing my free views, it wouldn't be allowed. All of this crap can be summed up in a phrase from when I was a kid: "Are you mental?!"  :doofus:

Most of these fans are so hypocritical. As soon as the team makes the playoffs they will be the first ones sitting in a bar whooping and hollowing with everyone else saying we're number one. As for me the only thing that bothers me during the anthem is talking, eating , walking around or on the phone. If you want to stand, sit or kneel, to me  it doesn't matter but stop what your doing take off your hat and shut up. To me the players that I think disrespect the anthem, and they are mostly hockey players, are the ones that stand but they rock back and forth or stretch trying to stay loose during anthem to me that is just as much of a distraction and disrespect to those that have served. I've never served so to me the anthem is just a song but to those who have served it is everything to them but I have enough respect for those who have served and those who have died to be still and quiet for three minutes weather I'm sitting, kneeling or standing

All is quiet when the anthem is on at our house.  We both respect it.

We all should. It represents our freedom and our country. Period. Free speech, fine...you can't find some other time to express yerself other than the 2 mns it takes to honor our country and our anthem???!!!

While I'm going off on this subject why are people more upset at someone kneeling or sitting during the anthem and don't even say a word about people waving the confederate flag at a NASCAR race during the anthem. Doesn't that flag show and represent complete defiance, rebellion and resistance of being a part of the U.S.A. ??????????
Title: Re: Minnesota Viking Updates
Post by: Rebel SS on September 09/25/17, 05:05:29 PM
Well, to me, it's saying you don't like our country and what our flag stands for. I grew up in the 60's and it was hammered into us every day when we said the pledge of allegiance. I was also taught if you didn't like something, keep it to yourself and live with it. That's my views...but some of my younger friends don't agree. On the Confederate flag thing, though, I dunno...do the "southern" people view it as a different symbol/what it means than our northern folk? Ya got me.......

I guess my point is where did this blow up as bad as it did, while the president was at a rally in Alabama. I wonder what percentage of those Americans that were there fly the confederate flag but don't you dare sit or kneel  during the star spangled banner??

I don't know. I think everything in this day and age is taken to the extremes, and in a bad way IMO. Everything is scrutinized and picked apart; turned over and looked at in seventeen differnt ways. People's mindset's are just all wrong. Ya can't even joke about things like you used to do anymore, watching every word and what you say and display every minute is not how I want to live. I've worked with every type of person from all over the world, and I don't ever remember the tensions so high, worried about offending people every minute. Seems like me and my diverse friends had a lot more fun "back then", because we knew when we where joking, and didn't need to pick everything apart. We didn't worry about it. But, that was me and my friends...maybe we were different than everyone. There just never was the high tensions like there is now. Maybe we're about to implode.

I had a buddy (still is) that I worked with on my shift, who was dark-skinned half Iranian/half american. (His Dad was Iranian, his Mom from the states)  He'd been a marine in intelligence over in Europe, and his parents lived somewhere near India. So, I called him Rangoon, and he called me Ruby USA. We never thought twice about it. Still good buddies.

In regards to the conference flag, I have no issues, it part of our history.

This right to free speech is fine, sometimes that can still get you in trouble, especially in the workplace. And apparently the NFL owners don't have anything in there work rules that demand these overpaid babies to stand for the athem.

The No. 2 overall draft pick from North Carolina will start against the Minnesota Vikings next Monday night after Mike Glennon struggled in the first four games. The team announced the move Monday.

This is where Old-School Zim starts to run afoul of today's professional athlete/businessman.

Zim is calling Bradford out to play if his problems are merely a question of pain tolerance.

Perhaps Bradford's agent is advising him to play as little as possible until he gets his next contract signed.

Either way, what could go wrong?  Its just Da Bears.

We'll have to see if he plays or not.

Bradford proved his toughness in my eyes last night.  The spirit was willing, but he knee is weak.

I feel bad for him, well as bad as I can feel for someone who has made $114 million over his career being hurt most of the time.

It is clear that he wants to prove himself, if for no other reason than to get another big contract.

But these guys play for pride too and looked as if all the pieces were in place during game 1:  offensive line, running game, good receivers, downfield passing attack.

I don't see Sam coming back any time soon.  I think Teddy has a better chance of playing before Sam is ready again.

Well Mr Smith went to Chicago and picked the rookie QB and Vikes go on to win. Things I noticed in last nights gams. I don't ever remember seeing so many commercials then in the first half. Bradford should not have started, he is hurt and was not ready to play. Bet we don't see him for awhile now. LEE the Vikes O line put the hurt on the Bears D. Chicago's QB I like the kid, maybe now the Bears won't be an automatic win for the Packers and Lions.. :coffee:

the Vikes O line put the hurt on the Bears D.

My enthusiasm was diminished by Gruden constantly reminding me that Da Bears were playing their 5th string middle linebacker.

The Pack isn't known for their D either, so we'll see what happens this Sunday.

In the morning I heard the guy's on KFAN say they would not be surprised to see AP get traded to the Cardinals.  I just thought he wanted to get traded anyway.  Hardly gets any reps being with the Saints but hey he is not the fireball he used to be.  Grad the Vikings won.  Bears young QB looked good against our good defense.  Don't think Brandford will come back and it will take time to get in the rythem once he get's on the field.  Looks like Kasey will be the QB the rest of the season.  We just can't get a break from key injuries.  Hope our defense holds down the  cheeseheads this Sunday.  good luck.

The guys on KFAN also said Adrian borrowed 2.5 mil from a bank not long ago.  He is late paying the loan back.  He still owes $600,000 or so.  The bank is now suing him for the money he owes.  He made 11 mil last year and it sounds to me like he is broke or why would he borrow that money.  They also said he likes to gamble.

Title: Re: Minnesota Viking Updates

I wonder how much choice teams have as to when they get their bye week.  I'm assuming that most teams would prefer to take them later than sooner.  This year the byes are between weeks 5 and 11.

By taking our bye after the London trip, that pretty much guarantees that the bye will come later - week 9.

Plus it probably makes sense.  If they are going to make teams travel over there (which I think is STUPID in the first place*), it gives them extra time to come back and get over any jet lag.  I'd hate to have to prepare for an NFL football game while combating the effects of jet lag.

* The money grubbing hogs of the NFL can't leave well enough alone.  They think they are going to make boat-loads more money by playing over there and even locating a team there.  An London NFL team is a solution looking for a problem.

Unless you really want to shake things up... you could send them the Patriots!

:reporter; LONDON — The Cleveland Browns evacuated their London hotel for an hour Saturday morning because of a gas leak in the resort's kitchen.

 :coffee: .....
The team says players, coaches and other personnel were awakened by fire alarms in the Pennyhill Park Resort and Spa at 5:45 a.m. They gathered in their temporary locker room area in the hotel parking lot before returning.

  ...
The disruption cost the players sleep, and their schedule for Saturday was pushed back two hours. The team arrived in England on Friday and some players, including rookie starting quarterback DeShone Kizer, said they got little sleep on the flight.

The Browns (0-7) play the Minnesota Vikings (5-2) on Sunday at Twickenham Stadium. This is Cleveland's first regular-season game outside the U.S.

:reporter; Minnesota Vikings add Cornelius Edison to 53-man roster.

10/28/17

  ....
The Minnesota Vikings promoted center Cornelius Edison from the practice squad on Saturday.

The Vikings had an open spot on the 53-man roster following the one-game suspension of safety Andrew Sendejo, who received the ban from the NFL for a flagrant violation of safety-related playing rules in last Sunday's win over the Baltimore Ravens.

The 6-foot-3, 312-pound Edison joins the Vikings' active roster in advance of Sunday's game in London against the Cleveland Browns. He spent the first seven weeks of the season on the practice squad.

The Portland State product entered the NFL in 2015 as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears. After spending time on the Bears' active roster in 2016, Edison spent the 2017 offseason and preseason with the Atlanta Falcons before being released as part of final roster cuts.

:reporter;     Bradford reportedly has knee scoped, could go on IR.

 :oscar: .....
The Vikings are reportedly considering putting Sam Bradford on injured reserve, which would end his season.

  :doah: ....
The eighth-year quarterback has not played since aggravating a knee injury in Week 5, and with Teddy Bridgewater set to return to the active roster, Bradford could go on the IR. Bridgewater has been sidelined since tearing his ACL in August 2016, but returned to practice three weeks ago.

  ..
ESPN reported Bradford had his left knee "cleaned up" Tuesday to hopefully ease his pain. But with Bridgewater expected to return to the roster Wednesday, joining Case Keenum, who has gone 4-2 as the starter the past six games, Bradford might be the odd man out.

Keenum will reportedly remain the starter for the NFC North-leading Vikings, :cheerleader:  who will play at Washington on Sunday. :happy1:

 :coffee: ....
Bradford came over from the Eagles last year in a trade after Bridgewater's injury. In 17 games in a Vikings uniform Bradford has 4,259 yards, with 23 touchdowns and five interceptions. He turns 30 on Nov. 8, and will become an unrestricted free agent after the season. A trip to the IR could hurt his value in the offseason market. :moon:

We are 8-2 and looking great!!!  What a great game by the Vikings.  Both offense and defense put it together yesterday.  Missed two field goals though even though he is rated the no. 2 kicker in the league.  Can't have that in tight games, but  it was 28-7 so those misses didn't hurt the team.  Holding the Colt's to 7 points after they averaged 30 points per game is quite an achievment.  Now to destroy Detroit and kick them out of the play off picture on Thursday.  good luck.

Sorry RH but it was the Rams they played & it ended up 24-7. ;) Your spot on about the kicker though, I think that's why they had him kick the last FG so he'd make 1 & have some confidence in case they need him on Thursday. I hope they play like they did Sunday against the Lions. Seems like that has been a tough game for us the last few years as Stafford always has a good game against the Vikes.

        Bing Predicts: NFL Week 12

Minnesota Vikings at Detroit Lions
> Bing Predicts winner: Minnesota (60%)
> Kickoff time: 12:30 PM EDT (Thursday)
> Game spread: Pick ’em
> Matchup history: Vikings lead 71-39-2

 :coffee: ......
No pressure or anything, but the NFC North title is on the line. Looks like a little Motor City Madness is set to get the holiday festivities started. The Vikings (8-2) have been playing well, winning six straight, and have a two-game lead in the division race. It explains why they’re favored. Case Keenum is the quarterback who has a job until he starts losing. Again, no pressure, with a healthy Teddy Bridgewater waiting to get the call.

   .......
The Lions (6-4) haven’t won pretty but they are on a three-game win streak. They have trouble running the ball they can’t stop the run some weeks — they’ve given up 423 rushing yards in the last two games combined, and those were wins over the dismal Browns and the faltering Bears. Yikes. Here are the twists in this early Thanksgiving Day entree: The Lions won 14-7 when they first met the Vikings on Oct. 1; Detroit hasn’t lost a game in November since 2015; and coach Jim Caldwell is 3-0 on Thanksgiving in Detroit.

Minnesota Vikings: Can Case Keenum pilot Minnesota to Super Bowl contention?

News Brief:

 :reporter; ......
This feels like the question heading into every Vikings game. So far, Keenum has given us a resounding yes. He’s far from perfect — just look at his two picks against Washington for a reminder — but Keenum has shattered every expectation we could have had. It certainly helps that he has a better-than-expected offensive line and two of the best receivers in the game. But right now, it looks like he’s someone Minnesota can win with. All he has to do is sustain this level of play from here on out.
Title: Re: Minnesota Viking Updates
Post by: Reinhard on November 11/25/17, 10:27:04 AM
Ya, it's a no brainer to keep him as a starter.  Both Keenum and Teddy are up for free agents at the end of the season.  Let's say Keenum takes up way up in the playoffs or even the S. Bowl.  Now do the Vikings give him a big contract and keep him and trade Teddy?  Or do they say thanks for everything but Teddy is our starter?     good luck.

Keenum looks like the steal of the year to me, for the $2 mil they signed him for. :happy1: Even if they don't resign him he'll be makin a lot more than that next year & I'll bet there's more than 1 team willin to give him a shot at the startin job.

My Dad calls me the Eternal Optimist of the Vikings.   :rotflmao:  If there is a mathematical chance, I think we can make it.  Man are we looking good. I really don't like to talk about it much cuz I am a little superstitious and don't want to jinx them.  I became a fan in 1968 I believe it was.  My buddy and I were in 8th grade.  We would talk our mothers into dropping us off on a gravel road along the Rock River.  We would camp for 2 or 3 days.  Cooked pancakes and all kinds of stuff.  Loved Dinty Moore beef stew.  No way can kids do that now.  Well back to the Vikes.  He brought a small transistor radio that we thought was just awesome.  We could get Sioux Falls TV on the radio and a Vikes game was on.  They were playing the Colts and I think the Vikes won but am not sure.  That was my first Vikes game.  Gradually I got hooked. I did not watch the second half of some of the games when Leslie Frazer was coach cuz I was so frustrated and mad.....  Otherwise it is a top priority to my wife and I to watch the game.  We both put on our Vikes shirts and hats.  We even make a point of leaving relatives houses early enough to make it home for the game.  lolol   This sure seems like it is lining up to be a special year.  Heck it already is a special year.  We now are tied with Philly and we are on top in the tiebreaker with them.  SO if we can keep up this pace we will have home field for all playoff games.  That would be awesome and I can't even believe how cool that would be.  OK I will shut up now.  Can't wait to play Fig Newton.  I hope we sack the heck out of him.  He is a pussy.

The Vikings have won one NFL Championship, in 1969, before the league's merger with the American Football League (AFL). Since the league merger in 1970, they have qualified for the playoffs 26 times, third-most in the league. The team has played in Super Bowls IV, VIII, IX, and XI, though failing to win any of them. Not gonna be a real popular opinion here I reckon, but here's how I see this season playing out. Keep in mind I am a huge vikings fan so it pains me to say this.

Green Bay wins out, slips into the playoffs as a wild card. Rodgers lights it up like the world has never seen, and then they play us in the post season and he gets the revenge beating of all time against the Vikes and sends us packing. Then the packers advance to the super bowl where they win it in our house, insult to injury.

Rodgers transcends stats, logic, probabilities, etc. He truly is the magic man. You are always, ALWAYS in the game with Rodgers. Down by 30 at halftime? No problem. Down by 10 with 2 minutes left? Again, no problem.

IMO Rodgers is like the ax murderer from the teen horror movies. You can hit him with your car, you can drown him in a lake, you can speed away from him on a lonely road. But as the camera pans down you can see his fingers twitch and he is stil just a tiny bit alive, and he can still hurt you very badly.

I really hate the Bears and Bucs this year because if they coulda done their dang jobs and won a game they should've the GB post season talk isnt even possible and they would only have 4 wins. They'd be basement dwellers with Chicago.

Sucks too that while we did win, we have handed losses to Atlanta, LA, and Nawlins. Every loss for those teams means a little better chance for GB. Also GB has to root for us to beat Carolina for the same reason. Rams, Falcons, Saints, Panthers, and Seahawks need to win out for me to sleep at night otherwise mark my words Pack is in the playoffs.

I have a $100 bet with a buddy they will make it. I have a $50 on top of that they win the super bowl. I figure if they win the blow is softened because I make money. If they lose, well, I'm happy to pay $150 to keep the Pack out of the post season. Money well spent IMO.

The defense had a tough game with the 2 face mask penalties on 1 score for Carolina & then the 3 big plays that led to at least 2, maybe 3 others for them. Things really turned IMO though when the Ia boy, LT Riley Reiff, got hurt early in the 2nd half & they were all over Keenum. A couple drops really hurt the offense too. Just glad we got out of there without Keenum getting hurt. Maybe they'll help us next week & beat the cheesheads. Hope they can get the O line back healthy, Remmers has been out for a few games but they really missed the rookie at center & Reiff yday

We play the Bengals at home next Sunday and then the cheeseheads and the last game are the powerhouse Bears.  Thielen got robbed on his TD for sure.  Those two facemask penalty's didn't help.  No excuse for those at all.  Love the way we came back though.  We didn't give up unlike some of the Viking teams we had under different coaches.  No reason to panic as I see on some Facebook media.  Eagles lost also along with their great QB.  That kid is going to be a great one [he already has a great start].  He has a knee injury that may end his season.  SKOL!!!!  good luck.

Thielen got robbed on his TD for sure.

Can't stand the NFL catch rule.  If you have control of the ball with 2 feet in bounds, that should be enough.  Just like with a TD, you only have to break the plane with the ball.  In is in.  Since they shade the rules to the offense so much anyway, why not make the catch definition just as liberal.

Those two facemask penalty's didn't help.  No excuse for those at all.

The face mask penalties looked to me to be pretty incidental.  In each case the fingers simply raked across the face because of the relative motions of the two players.  Yes the players did grab the mask, but when you are trying to tackle, that happens.  I thought it was just bad luck in a couple of plays in succession.  I'm sure Zim will hold those guys accountable, because that is what he does, but they weren't "stupid" penalties by the players.  (Late hits and humping the goal post are stupid penalties.)

Eagles lost also along with their great QB.

The Eagles won the game, but might have lost their QB.  This may save our playoff run (if we get one), but if we end up losing Reiff (and I don't know that we will) it might be a wash.  We will need to win more games if we hope to have home ice advantage in the playoffs.  This is not the year for the Vikes to back their way into the playoffs.

It's over boys. All over. Fun while it lasted. Down 3 linemen for who knows how long, and Xavier Rhodes has been banged up and not himself since the week before thanksgiving. They won't talk about it but I DVR all the games and pinpointed where he came up lame with a pulled calf. He's played since but not the same. A healthy Rhodes doesn't get torched by a scrub like Funchess yesterday and he also gave up huge yards to Marvin Jones on Turkey Day even though he did seal the game with his INT. Yeah yeah he held Julio Jones to practically nothing but in fairness they rarely target Jones anyway.

We made great moves on the O-Line but this year we can't keep them healthy either. I say GB trashes us 31-14 for a revenge beating. Flip a coin whether or not we beat the Bengals and I bet we lose to the Bears.

Even if we win out, I think Green Bay does to and if we meet in the post season Rodgers is gonna tear us up. Our only hope to go far was securing a top spot and home field and after this week looks like its not gonna happen. Get ready to be real disappointed. I don't think we win the division and I will be shocked if we make the playoffs the way the NFC is rolling. Must be nice to be in the AFC where every year if you are .500 in week 14 there's always a chance.

Wow Loose one game and it's the end of the world LOL.  We still have a strong team including one of the best defenses in the league.  The coaches will put together a plan for each game.  The Cheeseheads getting anywhere near the playoffs is laughable.  Detroit is a better team than they are.  Chicago is going nowhere this year.  All the teams are having injuries this time of the year, it happens more toward the end of the season than any other time of the year.  We are doing this good with a back up QB, how many other teams have a talented back up or back ups with Teddy as we have?  We have fighters on this team and this team is hungry and we as true fans can see this.  We win against the Bengals and the Cheeseheads can kiss their future good by and I don't think that will even be needed.  They will not risk further injury to Rodgers unless they get into the playoffs and that's a pipe dream at best.  good luck.

    Latavius Murray, RB, Vikings

Minnesota’s eight-game win streak was halted by the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, and the fact that they were able to bottle up the Viking run game was a big reason why. Murray has been a consistently strong contributor to the Minnesota offense since roughly October, but he didn’t get it going here, with only 14 yards on nine carries. That forced Case Keenum to make plays. The QB couldn’t quite make enough, resulting in Minnesota’s first defeat since Oct. 1. :banghead:

The big problem with this is the Pack has to win out and they have a snowball chance in he** of doing that. No one thought the boys would win it all and they don't have to. One game to lock up the division and now Phily has lost their qb and things will be hard for them to win out and secure top spot. sit  back and enjoy the ride this season will not be done in three weeks for the  Vikes but the Bears and Pack will be watching us and Detroit in the playoffs.

Again not to be pessimistic but realistically this has run its course. Keenum's favorite target in games against teams with a good defense, and in the red zone, is Kyle Rudolph. He's  not only out, he's out for a while. Walking boot. They haven't said what exactly is wrong but they don't put you in a boot if you just have to rub some dirt on it.

I mentioned before Xavier Rhodes isn't healthy. Zim probably avoids putting him on the injury report, and for media purposes, has him limp through practices. Just because Xavier's presence alone alters entire gameplans for teams that face him. Can you imagine how much worse Julio Jones and Matt Ryan would have attacked Rhodes's side of the field if there were media reports of him being even "Questionable" at practice?

That brings me to the O line. Remmers hasn't even practiced since November. Something is very wrong with his lower back. Had this been earlier in the season I bet we would see him on IR. Elflein has been AMAZING both in pass protection and in screens and zone runs in space. He is now injured. Riley Reiff was probably one of my favorite off season pick ups (Bias, Go Hawkeyes!) but he too is injured.

Our defense use to be our leaning point. That group won us games we had no business winning because the pressure on the offense was only to score 14 points. And the scary part is, it was mainly our defense (besides Keenum running for his life - due to injured linemen) that screwed the pooch against Carolina. Everyone talks about how we are the best team in the league at preventing big plays, offensive bursts of 25+ yards. Well big plays is what lost us the Carolina game. And the defense is the healthy side!! NO excuse for that other than they mentally took a dump.

Now for the run game, I have no idea how but up until this point we have been able to count on the McKinnon and Murray convo for 100+ a game and 1 or 2 TDs. BOTH of them got completely bottled up in Carolina. A large part of that is due to the offensive line. The scrubs just aren't as athletic blocking in space and picking up defenders at live speed. That is why they are backups. Poor McKinnon and Murray were drawing contact right at the line of scrimmage and many times behind it.

With 3 injured linemen, no starting tight end, (and Rudolphs backup, David Morgan is going through concussion protocol so we are down to a 3rd stringer whos name escapes me) and a lackluster run game that only succeeded because of Shurmurs zone run schemes no without wheels due to OLine injuries, welcome back to 2016-2017 vikings football. Aka bradford ball. A ton of check downs, a lot of three and outs, keenum running for his life, and frustrating losses. Defense will be on the field a lot with our offense looking like this.

Here are my predictions and why they will happen.

1) Vikes vs Bengals - Bengals have talent on that team. AJ Green is a monster and on a good day Andy Dalton is no slouch either. They have one of the toughest defenses although it is also one of the most inconsistent. Bengals just got TROUNCED by Chicago in embarrassing fashion. I think they are out for blood to prove they are a better team than last week. Let us not forget they played the Steelers within an inch of their lives and they forced Overtime against green bay AT LAMBEAU earlier this year -WITH RODGERS. This isn't a team to sleep on. I say Cincy beats MN at home by tiring out our defense and stopping an injury depleted offense. I would also wager Kai Forbath has something to play in this loss.

Bengals win it, 31-28.

2)Green Bay and Minnesota both transcend logic, stats, or rational analysis. GB always comes up with wins when they need them and MInnesota always finds a way to screw it up. When he plays angry Rodgers is a force to be reckoned with, the likes of which I have never seen in the NFL before. He is better than Brady on a pure talent scale. Plus Lambeau will be absolutely raucous, they want to see a revenge blood bath as retribution for putting Rodgers on IR and I think that is what they get. While Davante Adams has put up numbers in Rodgers absence, Cobb, Nelson and company have proven they aren't quarterback proof. But instead of defending one receiver (adams) Vikes will now be forced to contain 3 of the best in the division. Again Rhodes is banged up and McCarthy and Rodgers both like complicated routes, complicated to the point where dummies like Trae Waynes and youngsters like Mackenzie Alexander won't be able to stop them. Also Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are SURPRISINGLY good backs both for their roster slot and draft order.

I say Green Bay wins this one 38-21. It will go a lot like last years Christmas matchup.

3) Chicago is better than their record. They beat the Steelers, with GLENNON. Pre Trubisky. They also beat the Panthers! They are a wildly inconsistent team but as they showed againts a Cincy Defense Trubisky can ball. Especially considering he has no WR weapons at all. Tarik Cohen and Jordan Howard are great backs. The bears will win in similar fashion as the Bengals will beat us, wearing down our defense that is always on the field, by moving the chains just enough. This one will be close. But the division loss (and loss to a shared opponent with GB) will seal our fate.

Bears win, 27-24, in overtime. This will be another loss in which Kai Forbath plays a big hand.

There you have it folks. We will be doing good to make the playoffs, and even if we do it will be short lived unless a lot of guys get healthy real fast.

So you can all send me a can of Schmidt when it happens just like this, here again are my predictions in short:

Bengals 31 Vikings 28
Packers 38 Vikings 21
Bears 27 Vikings 24 (in OT)

This is for another thread or another post, but Green Bay by the way will win out, secure a wild card, run the table, win the Super Bowl in OUR HOUSE, with a QB who spent 8 weeks on IR for the first time ever. Guaranteed.

Yes, I'm enjoying the ride, but I also expect a wild finish.

A trip to Lambeau in December is fraught with peril and it remains to be seen if the Bears will lay down for us again on the last week of the season.

I watched the end of the Patriots/Steelers game with both teams showing dynamic scoring potential in the final minutes.  If I have any concern for our Vikes its that they haven't shown that they can score a TD in under two minutes to win the game if we fall behind or get into a shootout.

The good news is that the Vike's defense limits the opponents opportunities so we don't get into shootouts.

Between Panther/Packers and Patriots/Steelers it was hard to pick a team I wanted to see win.

Now that you mention it, I do recall hearing that halftime scoring statistic, but it isn't quite the same as doing it at the end of the game.

Maybe even that works to our advantage.  Since we haven't had to try to win games in the final 2 minutes with desperation drives, there isn't any game film to analyze as to what Shurmur might call in that situation.

the officials screwed up again yesterday with that stupid total ball control for recievers.  The guy for the steelers had complete ball controll as he crossed the goal line and the end zone.  It was when he fell out of bounds and fell to the ground the ball josseled a bit.  Thielen had one taken away last week for the same reason.  A running back can cross the goal line with the ball and not have control when he hits the ground and it counts anyway.  Total BS.  good luck.

I'm sure Rodgers wants to play this weekend to get revenge on the Vikes for his injury.
The Packers have nothing to gain, the Vikings are fighting for home field advantage for a few games, so they will be attacking anything standing in their way which will be Rodgers.
I think McCarthy will bench him to save him from severe injury.

It was truly about as statistically impossible as this year in week 10 last year but it happened. Every must win was a win and it came solely due to Aaron Rodgers alone throwing hail mary's and corking huge plays under 2 minutes. It was almost as if he can will his team to a win.

As of right now Green Bay is my favorite to go to the Super Bowl next year though. They fell flat this year yeah but I think if you flip the coin for them it is gonna come up heads way more than 50%.

Plus we still haven't seen the end of the season, if McCarthy is stupid enough to play Rodgers this sunday he will trash the vikes. And I am afraid of the bears at this point in the year. Call me stupid but Trubisky can make a play here and there and their pass rush is straight up mean especially against an offense that is banged up.

Well if you ask Rogers if he wants to play you know he will say yes. Does he need to play for nothing? I think he will sit I believe they have activated a backup OB already to take his place. Vikes will win out over both the Packers and Chicago because they are a better team. If Philly loses one and MN wins both I think not sure they will get number one seed, they already have a bye which is good news. You can't lose when you don't play. Lets put the cheeseheads in our rear view mirror and not listen about how they are going to win it all,,,,,next year.   :coffee:

Hundley gets his turn to try and cool off Vikings.

 :reporter;
Associated Press

 :coffee: ......
Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer against Green Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

NFC North supremacy and the brutal cold of a late-December night game at Lambeau Field.

Well, so much for most of that.

The Vikings have clinched the division title and have an eye on securing a first-round bye and possibly earning home-field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. The Packers, on the other hand, are out of the playoff picture. Aaron Rodgers, whose right collarbone was broken during a season-defining loss at Minnesota in Week 6, is back on injured reserve after throwing three interceptions in a killer loss at Carolina.

At least it will be cold for Saturday night's game. The predicted low for Saturday night is 1. :cold:

Zimmer insists his team, which has won nine of its last 10, won't overlook the Packers, who won't be part of the postseason for the first time since 2008.

"I told my team this: We're a good team, we're not a great team," :banghead: Zimmer said. "I don't know if there's any great teams out there, but we're a good team. We don't have the luxury of looking past anybody, and that's really not our mentality as a football team (or) the kind of guys that we have."

The landscape of the NFL underwent a seismic shift during the first quarter of the teams' matchup in Minneapolis on Oct. 15. That's when Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr took Rodgers to the turf after a pass. Rodgers suffered a broken right collarbone. Minnesota won 23-10 to record the second of eight consecutive wins. The Packers went on to lose four of Brett Hundley's first five starts at quarterback.

Rodgers returned last week but the Packers lost 31-24 at Carolina. Green Bay put Rodgers back on injured reserve and has turned over the offense again to Hundley. He's thrown eight touchdowns vs. eight interceptions this season -- including one touchdown and three picks in relief of Rodgers at Minnesota. In four home starts, the Packers have gone 1-3 with Hundley throwing zero touchdowns vs. five interceptions.

"I think he's grown quite a bit," Zimmer said. "He's making a lot of quick decisions. He's been taking care of the football well. He's using his legs quite a bit. He's obviously got a strong arm, very athletic guy. He starting to see a lot more as far as the things when he wants to get the ball out to the perimeter when guys are playing off coverage, does a nice job with movement in the pocket, and he's starting to really -- I'm not saying he's Rodgers, but he's got a lot of very similar mannerisms."

Hundley will face an enormous challenge against Minnesota's powerful defense. training-087 The Vikings rank second in the NFL in total defense and scoring defense. Defensive end Everson Griffen, who has 13 sacks, Barr and cornerback Xavier Rhodes were selected to the Pro Bowl team on Tuesday.

"We've seen these guys, me personally, for three years now," Hundley said. "To play against these guys, and now to get another chance to play them, it's a great opportunity. They do what they do well, very well. They're one of the best defenses in the league."

Green Bay's defense relies on big plays that have been too infrequent. The Packers kept their season alive by scoring a defensive touchdown in the overtime win vs. Tampa Bay and forcing an interception in overtime to win at Cleveland. At Carolina, however, the Packers failed to force any turnovers and gave up four touchdown passes to Cam Newton and a season-worst 29 first downs.

Green Bay is No. 30 in opponent passer rating (100.5) and No. 31 in opponent completion percentage (68.4). Vikings quarterback Case Keenum is No. 8 in rating (98.9) and No. 2 in completion percentage (67.9).

"He's been given an opportunity and obviously he's had a number of experiences and I'm sure he's learned from them all to prepare himself for this opportunity in Minnesota," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "He's doing a hell of a job. He has really good tape."

On the injury front, Packers receiver Davante Adams remains in the concussion protocol following the helmet-to-helmet hit by Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis that resulted in Davis getting a one-week suspension. Adams is second in the NFL with 10 touchdown catches.

Starting outside linebackers Clay Matthews (hamstring) and Nick Perry (ankle/shoulder) and guard Jahri Evans (knee) also didn't practice for Green Bay. For Minnesota, reserve cornerback Tramaine Brock (foot) was the only player to not practice.

I read somewhere yday that Bradford was taking some snaps in practice. It said that they had 3 weeks to decide if they would put him on the active roster or not. Just heard the NFL guy on ESPN mention Shurmur's name when he was talking about the head coaching job with the Bears, as well

Yes, heaven forbid that Keenum would get knocked out, who would Zim put in the game...?  Teddy?  Bradford?

Wow, what a talker that would be.

Former Concordia, CFL standout signs with Vikings.

By Forum News Service  on Jan 3, 2018

 :coffee: .....
MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Vikings have signed coveted Canadian Football League receiver Brandon Zylstra, a former standout at Concordia, to a reserve/future contract.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Zylstra led the CFL with 1,687 receiving yards for the Edmonton Eskimos this past season. One of Zylstra’s many recent NFL workouts included a stop at Winter Park on Dec. 8.

The future contract means Zylstra will be added to the Vikings’ 90-man offseason roster once the 2018 league year begins in March. The Vikings currently have Jarius Wright, Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs, Laquon Treadwell and Stacy Coley under contract through at least next season.

The Spicer, Minn., native finished with 1,932 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns in 29 career games with the Cobbers.

Great... Now all next year we can hear about how the Vikings have two local undrafted free agent receivers that went to small Minnesota colleges.

Did you also know that Adam Thielen is from Detroit Lakes and went to college at Minnesota State Mankato?

Maybe they can coach this Brandon Zylstra guy up to be a serviceable NFL receiver.

If I was Laquon Treadwell, I'd be worried.  If Treadwell goes another offseason without being able to figure out what Zim wants from him or if Spielman can snooker another team into taking him - he gone.

What a game last night!!!  Thought they were going to roll the Saints but through mistakes they came back and nearly took the game.  The Vikings are a tough team and do not give up like in the past.  Zimmer was right that there is no curse, only in our minds.  It was only one play a few times that took us out of the playoffs.  Like last years missed field goal in the last seconds by Walsh.  That was painful.  So this time around it was one play in the last 10 seconds that won it for us.  Eagles next Sunday SKOL!!  good luck.

Was kinda wonderin why they didn't blitz more? Especially the 2nd half after they started comin back & Brees was gettin hot. It sounded like Aikman was a little surprised, a couple times too, when they played coverage over pressure. :confused:They won so............ don't really care now but.....................

Maybe Zim was reluctant to call blitz with Sendejo out of the game for fear of getting burned by an underneath throw by Brees.

I hope Sendejo will be back for the Eagles.

I'm sure Zim won't release an injury report until the last minute, but did anyone notice anyone else leave the game and not come back?

What about Tom Johnson?

I love the fact that that last play was a perfectly exicuted pass touchdown, no goofy rogers hailmarry into the endzone and get lucky one of his player caught it. They earned that win.

Forgot Sendejo was out. Pretty sure I seen Johnson back in there at the end of the game. Thought I heard 1 of the announcers last weekend say the NE OC was going to the Lions. As for the NO defense, they were told NO PENALTIES as they figured we wouldn't be able to score & time would run out. So the only way, they thought, they could lose was if there was a defensive penalty in order to give the Vikings a extra play to kick the winning FG. The DB was there a bit early & afraid he was going to get a penalty called on him, so went for the tackle & whiffed :applause:

Rochester fans still get to cheer on a local star, Marcus Sherels has signed a one-year deal to remain with the Minnesota Vikings. Sherels will be entering his ninth season with the Vikings it will be his sixth different contract with the team as an undrafted free agent coming out of the University of Minnesota.
Reports on social media last weekend had Sherels headed for the Carolina Panthers but those were quickly retracted.
Sherels is the Vikings all-time leader in punt return yards with 2-thousand-171, he returned a league high 39-punts for 372-yards last season posting a nine-point-five yard average.
He's considered a core special teams player while making tackles and also returning kickoffs.
The 30-year old Sherels is one of the teams longest-tenured players on the roster. The Vikings like his sure-handedness and reliability, he rarely makes a mistake which is key on special teams.

Was Kirk Cousins worth it?

  ......
This is perhaps one of the biggest questions facing any team this coming season. The Vikings temporarily made Cousins the highest-paid quarterback in the league, and the contract he signed was fully guaranteed, which was unprecedented. In the process of bringing Cousins on board, Minnesota dumped all three of its quarterbacks from 2017 — Sam Bradford, Case Keenum and Teddy Bridgewater — and brought in failed starter Trevor Siemian to be his backup. Needless to say, there’s a lot riding on Cousins this year, as Minnesota has a championship-caliber roster everywhere else. If he lives up to the contract he signed, then great. If not, then the Vikings will be left scratching their heads  wondering where it all went wrong.

Vikings rookie Mata'afa suffers season-ending knee injury. :banghead:

 :pouty: ........
MINNEAPOLIS—Vikings undrafted rookie defensive end Hercules Mata'afa suffered a torn ACL on Wednesday when he was injured without contact on a kickoff in a practice during organized team activities.

He will be placed on injured reserve and miss the entire season.

Mata'afa's agent, Kenny Zuckerman, said Mata'afa was very distraught after suffering the injury, but that he felt better later in the day.

He took to Instagram and wrote that he will "make the Skol nation proud in the near future!''

"He called me crying (after suffering the injury),'' Zuckerman said.

"I think he just thought (at first), 'Oh, now they're going to send me on a plane home tomorrow.' ... But I talked to Rick (Spielman, the general manager) and I talked to George (Paton, the assistant general manager). They really like him and they plan to keep him there in the building (during rehab) and he'll get ready for next season.''

As far as ACL tears go, Zuckerman said Mata'afa's was much less severe than many.

"It's a bad injury, but it's the best of the worse,'' Zuckerman said. "I mean, it's still an ACL tear, but he'll come back sooner than 90 percent of most ACLs.''

Zuckerman said Vikings medical officials are waiting for the swelling to go down and details for surgery have not yet been established. Mata'afa, a defensive lineman at Washington State, was expected to be drafted in April.

When he wasn't, the Vikings quickly offered him a free-agent deal.

Mata'afa was initially looked at as a linebacker. He was moved last week to defensive end.

"I think he was on his way to being on the roster,'' Zuckerman said. "Everybody I talked to (on the Vikings) said he's just been a real pleasant surprise. I think they were shocked by his quickness and short-area burst.''

Spielman declined comment on Mata'afa's injury. Mata'afa was unavailable for comment, but addressed his injury on Instagram.

"I'm really happy with the support of (the) Vikings at this moment,'' he wrote. "They made my day when it started off dark and cold. I'm glad free agency and God brought me here! Thanks to everyone else as well for the kind words. I will make the Skol nation proud in the near future!''

Spielman lauds Cousins' leadership:

Spielman had plenty of praise Wednesday for quarterback Kirk Cousins, who signed a fully guaranteed three-year, $84 million contract in March.

"He's a phenomenal leader,'' Spielman said at a Vikings charity golf event. "The players have really gravitated to him. The one thing I know, we haven't been able to stabilize the quarterback position, whether it would be my fault, I missed on a guy, or we had some significant injuries. ... Hopefully, this will solidify ourselves.''

Spielman missed on Christian Ponder with the No. 12 pick in the 2011 draft. The Vikings had injury issues with Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Bradford.

Spielman joked about Cousins agreeing to come to Minnesota.

Vikings plan a team approach to anthem.

6/16/18

 :reporter;
In more than three weeks since the NFL enacted a new anthem policy that managed to cause more problems than it solved, teams and owners and league officials generally have managed to keep their heads low and their mouths shut on the topic.

For the Vikings, the subject became unavoidable on Friday, because the team publicly cut the ribbon on its
swanky new training facility.
Via the Minneapolis Star Tribune, owner Mark Wilf expressed support for the new anthem policy, and he explained that the organization remains on the same page.
“Whatever we do, we’re going to do as a team,” Mark Wilf said. “That involves working on social justice issues, hearing from the players and really partnering with them. We’ve been in the process of having those conversations to do some great things in the community as they have done for many years, but more focused on some of the social justice issues that are of concern to them. We look forward to advancing some of the great things we do in the community.”

The inescapable message is that the Vikings will stand for the anthem as a team. Reinforcing that message are recent comments from coach Mike Zimmer, who (as he usually does) made his position clear.

“I think it’s important we stand for the anthem,” Zimmer said at the time. “A lot of people have died for that flag. That flag represents our country and what we stand for.”
“Our players are very respectful — and our ownership, our organization, our franchise — of the military and what that flag means,” Wilf said Friday. “I can tell you as a son of immigrants I think it’s very important for our ownership. I think we all understand that. We’re in a good place on all this and we just look forward to really working together.”

Immigrants or not, the core of the debate continues to be whether conscientious player protests during the anthem aimed at bringing attention to legitimate societal concerns constitute disrespect of the flag, the anthem, or the military. Friday’s remarks make it clear where the Vikings stand as an organization. Come September, the question will be whether any of the 53 players on the roster feel comfortable bucking the internal position on the issue by staying in the locker room or by daring to defy the new policy.

Assuming, of course, that the new policy hasn’t been overturned by then, either by an arbitrator or by a judge.

Cornerback Mackensie Alexander was just one of two Vikings unable to practice Wednesday as the team increased preparations for Sunday’s opener against the 49ers.

 :coffee: ....
Cornerback Mackensie Alexander was just one of two Vikings unable to practice Wednesday as the team increased preparations for Sunday’s opener against the 49ers.
Alexander (left ankle) and running back Roc Thomas (ankle) were sidelined at practice. Alexander has yet to practice since injuring his ankle in the Aug. 18 exhibition against Jacksonville.

Four Vikings were limited, including center Pat Elflein as he returned to practice this week. Elflein, according to the injury report, is still dealing with both ankle and shoulder rehabs. He had injuries surgically repaired on both this offseason.

Left tackle Riley Reiff (foot), cornerback Xavier Rhodes (hamstring) and cornerback Marcus Sherels (hamstring) were also limited. :violin:
The good news is receiver Stacy Coley (groin) was a full participant as he returned to practice. Coley had been sidelined since playing in the Aug. 11 preseason opener in Denver.
Receiver Adam Thielen was not even mentioned on the injury report after leaving practice a week ago. A source had told the Star Tribune his exit wasn’t a long-term concern, and he appears good to go for Sunday.
The 49ers’ initial injury report will be released later today.
