Post by: Gunner55 on April 04/08/21, 04:11:52 PM
Anybody else watching, sure is GREAT to see fans back in the stands.  :party1: :happybounce: Don't get BSN/FSN at home so watch 'em up here a lot, rainy day helps too. Just tied it up 1-1.

Twinks pretty much having their way with them. This can be a pretty good team and fun to watch this year.

Glenn, put the game on the radio 830 WCCO.

I dropped Dish 2 years ago cuz the Vikes games weren't on.  And the Twins.  I told the cable guys I needed it before the next Vikes game and they got me all hooked up.  Never looked back.

About the same as Dish.  Who cares what it costs???  Way too much.  In less than a week you can watch Twins games.

We dropped Direct TV down home ~ a year ago too. We kept losin channels & they kept wanting more $ :bs:, went to Mediacom instead. Bundled everything with them for about $50 a month < than what Direct wanted. Everything up here is Paul Bunyan & again that isn't that much more than just what Direct wanted down home. Wireless wi-fi & double the cable boxes up here too.

I get everything through Midco. Internet & cable is $154.00 a month. Seems expensive but as long as they don't mess with my sports I'm ok with it.

:happy1: Got that right Bobber, he's been knockin the cover off the ball. Arraez been on a tear as well. The new leftfielder, Garlick, who just been playin against lefties so far is playing pretty good too. Good to see Garver shake off last season as well.

I know... Let's waive Sano and let the Red Sox pick him up and turn him into a Hall of Famer.  :bonk:

Steroids turned him into the hitter he became. Hall of Famer? I'm not there yet.

Sano might become something or he might be another Rob Deer, if you remember him. You have to be able to touch the baseball with the bat once in a while.

They signed him at 16, he's now 27, I doubt he's going anywhere. He leaves Cruz is probably gone too, both are from the Dominican Republic & are close friends. I heard that Sano is 1 of the main reasons they signed Cruz. But I hear what your sayin db, he has looked terrible at the plate so far this season. :pouty:

He led the majors last year striking out 40% of the time. He is a classic all or nothing guy.

There are many who really only have 3 options, BB, K, or HR, when they go to the plate in MLB right now. That how the game is these days, many are making quite a bit more than he is too..

Sure hope the Twins can figure out how to win an extra inning game this year. I was optimistic about the new extra inning rule with starting a runner on second, but so far we can't figure out how to score that runner or stop the opposing team from scoring theirs.

Gave yday's away in regulation. :pouty: Let the starter, Shoemaker, pitch to a couple guys too many & the new closer didn't have it at the end either. They were ahead 6-0 after 5! :doah:

They thought they needed it in order to be able to have a season last year. With no minor league play they had only the players from the alternate sites that they could bring up. Long games, 12-15 + innings, usually means more injuries & more roster moves along with CV-19 they were tested with being able to play all their games.  A few teams didn't even play all 60. I didn't really care for it last year but if that was the only way we had baseball it was OK. Kind of like it now, just wish the Twins were better at it.

I missed the game where Austodilla sp.  pitched.  I found it on Youtube and it is great!  His fast ball was 46 mph I think.  He threw 7 pitches to get 3 guys out.  Looks like a slow pitch softball game.  He even shrugged his shoulders a couple of times and looked back at the fielders.  LOL  My buddy told me that he is great in the club house and his nickname is La Tortuga or something like that.  It means the Turtle.  Don't know if I can copy and paste from there or not.

Seen it on replay & couldn't help but laugh. Yeah, I guess he's quite the cut up, they love him.  Arreaz hasn't pitched or played catcher that I know of but between the 2 of 'em they can play just about anywhere. Pretty valuable in today's game.

First week or so they played well, last couple weeks have been pretty rough though. The CV-19 hasn't helped, a few hurt lately too so they have 3-4 from the Saints playin most days.

With the TV broadcast issues and racial equality stuff, it's made them less and less of a priority for us. Used to care. Anymore not so much. Do they realize the number of former fans they've alienated and what that's going to cost them in the long run if they don't change it? Or do they figure they can soak the folks who still give a rip more and make it work? Was hearing that Dish had a possible deal in the works to pick up Bally Sports for $50 a month. On top of what we're already paying for crappy TV, I'm about ready to dump Dish, get an antenna & go back to local network TV for as much as I watch TV anymore. I don't watch TC TV news. It sucks. I would miss Gunsmoke & Bonanza but that's about it.

We don't get 'em down here either, up to the lake though, everything is bundled from Paul Bunyan up there. Ditched DirectTV down here about a year ago, Mediacom now, never did get FSN down here.

I probably already mentioned that I dropped Dish a couple of years ago and went to cable so I could get Twins and Vikes.  Bally bought out FSN.  I think it has been in the works for a while.  Now they can include gambling eventually.  I heard Bally also bought another casino in Vegas recently.

1 big part IMO is the guy, Colome, that they signed to share the closer role with Rogers. He's had a hand in 6 of their losses so far & allowed 2 runs yday. He took the loss, his 3rd, in Monday's game & has an ERA over 8. He's now out of the closer role, at least temporarily. The starting pitching hasn't been very consistent either, especially Maeda who was their stud last season. With the CV-19 issue & the guys injured the offense has been pretty inconsistent as well. :pouty:

The 65 team was a fun team for a young 10 year old to follow back when the sports news came from Don Riley in the St. Paul paper.

This team will be ok, by mid June they will be right back in the fight with the White Sux. They need to get everybody back and play solid defense and straighten that bullpen out. The bullpen has always be the weak spot and this year is no different. Rocco will burn this bullpen up because he just doesn't trust his starters, never has, never will.

Anyway few things are better then sitting around a fire, drinking a cocktail and listening to the Twins.

They won!! :happy1: Buxton lead off with a HR, Donaldson followed, & Polanco had another all in the 1st inning for a 4-0 lead. They had 3 more HR's before it was over. Happ pitched 7, with just 4 hits & 2 runs. Dobnak did they clean up with 2 IP & givin up only 1 hit. Hope it's a sign of things to come, off today. A big series with KC startin tomorrow at home.

Big win yday as it was their 1st series win since the since early April against Detroit. :happy1: The bats are starting to wake up as they had 3 HR's & 5 of the 9 starters had more than 1 hit. Berrios went 6 & looked in control for 5 of those. They're starting to get the bullpen figured out now too. Maeda & Texas today & I'd really like to see him have a good start as he's struggled the last 3-4 starts after being the ace last season.

They'd of lost yday's game 2-3 weeks ago. Maeda was better but still had trouble throwin strikes early in the count, bullpen struggled too. Good thing Polanco & Kirilloff had good games at the plate. Happ today.
Title: Re: Twins home opener
Post by: dutchboy on May 05/04/21, 09:35:16 AM
The bats are slowly but surely coming around. They have a couple more guys to get going but Polanco getting a hit here and there makes a big difference.

I think the minor leaguers get going this week so there will be more pitching working it's way through the pipeline.

 Couldn't hardly believe it but heard 'em say it a couple times, the entire league hit just .232 in April & struck out 24.5% of the time. :doah: Both are very close to the all time record & when that happened last they changed the mound & added the DH.
Title: Re: Twins home opener
Post by: dutchboy on May 05/04/21, 11:33:39 AM
I watch a lot of baseball. Between the strikeouts, shifts & replays the game is almost unwatchable. Gone are the days of base stealing, hit & runs, hitting the other way. Remember when striking out was a bad thing. Today the nerds are trying to tell us striking out is far better then hitting the ball and POSSIBLY hitting into a double play.

As bad as it is today just wait......the automated strike zone is on it's way. Yes, things can get worse.  :pouty:
Title: Re: Twins home opener
Post by: Gunner55 on May 05/05/21, 07:41:52 AM
The bullpen let them down yday as both Rogers & Waddell, gave up, 5 of the 6 they scored, too many runs. :pouty: Thorpe gets the start today in order to give Pineda another to heal from getting hit in his pitching arm.

Some key hits late by Polanco, Kepler, & Sano for RBI's leading to a badly needed W. Shoemaker had a good start but Stashak struggled in his inning, the rest of the bullpen was good though. Berrios goes today, 3:10 1st pitch.
Title: Re: Twins home opener
Post by: dutchboy on May 05/08/21, 02:05:56 PM
Good to see some of the bats waking up. Although it's hard to say how awake they are. Texas & Detroit aren't exactly loaded with HOF pitchers. They need Kiriloff back and to be swinging, they need Arraez's hustle. They need to park the fat kid on the bench. Most of all they need to trust the starters. Quit taking them out in the 5th with 70 pitches and they get in a bit of trouble. These starters need to get to 100 pitches to save the bullpen.
Title: Re: Twins home opener
Post by: Gunner55 on May 05/09/21, 08:35:36 AM
Hard to watch yday as Berrios struggled. He went 6 but needed 104 pitches to do it. Their bats, only 1-14 with RISP, along with a bullpen that gave up 5 of the 7 runs, let 'em down badly.
Title: Re: Twins home opener
Post by: dutchboy on May 05/09/21, 08:52:10 AM
Berrios is just another in a long line of prospects we have waited to arrive. He is either fairly good or bad, not much in between. Yesterday he walks 5 and doesn't strike out anybody (or maybe 1?) and like Gunner said needed 104 pitches to get through 6. Not good.

Open auditions should be held to find local pitchers who can do what some of these guys are doing.

Oh well, will they flop again on Mothers Day or look like a pennant contender? I guess thats why we watch.   :doah:
