Chicago won a football game on Sunday with its quarterback completing four passes. It won said game by two touchdowns against what is quickly becoming a bad Carolina Panthers squad. The Bears can thank rookie safety Eddie Jackson for that. He scored both of the team’s touchdowns in a 17-3 win — Chicago’s third on the season. In reality, that’s more wins than most figured Chicago would have this season.

It hasn’t been pretty. We get that. But John Fox has this team playing inspired football. Chicago’s defense sacked Cam Newton five times, forcing three turnovers from the quarterback in the process. Offensively, the duo of Jordan Howard and Tarik Cohen represented 138 of the team’s 153 total yards against Carolina. Sure the Bears won’t be competing for a playoff spot this season, but the competitiveness is there.

John Cassis is one of our nation's finest motivational speakers. :bow:
He told a story recently about a time when he was serving as one of the Chaplains for the
Chicago Bears during their glory years of the 1980's.
As John tells it, Mike Ditka was about to deliver a locker room pep talk one day.
He looked up and saw defensive tackle William "Refrigerator" Perry. How could he not see him?
At 338 pounds the Fridge stood out even in a crowd of pro football players.
Ditka gestured to the Fridge. "When I get finished," he said, "I'd like you to close with the Lord's Prayer."
Then the coach began his talk.
Meanwhile, Jim McMahon, the brash and outspoken quarterback, punched John Cassis.
"Look at Perry," McMahon whispered, "he doesn't know the Lord's Prayer." :bonk:
Sure enough, Perry sat with a look of panic on his face, his head
in his hands.
He was sweating profusely. :doah:
"Everybody knows the Lord's Prayer," said Cassis to McMahon in disbelief.
After a few minutes of watching the Refrigerator leaking several gallons of sweat, McMahon
(never known as a genius himself) nudged Cassis again.
"I'll bet you 50 bucks Fridge doesn't know the Lord's Prayer."
As Cassis tells the story, he stops to reflect on the absurdity of it all: :scratch:
"Here we were sitting in chapel and betting 50 bucks on the Lord's Prayer."
When Coach Ditka finished his pep talk, he asked all the men to remove their caps.
Then he nodded at Perry and bowed his head.
It was quiet for a few moments before the Fridge spoke in a shaky voice,
"Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord, my soul to keep."
Cassis felt the tap on his shoulder. It was Jim
Jim McMahon. "Here's the 50 dollars," he whispered. "I had no idea Perry knew the Lord's Prayer."

Just heard on Mike & Mike that the Bears tight end that dislocated his knee yday could lose his leg. That's the same injury that Teddy had, obviously Teddys' wasn't as severe. No vascular damage for TB

Bears' Zach Miller has emergency surgery in effort to save leg.
Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller underwent emergency surgery Sunday night to repair his dislocated left knee in New Orleans.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, vascular surgeons were called in to save Miller’s left leg from amputation.
The procedure was “more significant” than a regular dislocation, and included grafting tissue from Miller’s other leg to repair the damaged artery, per the report.
Miller, 33, suffered the gruesome injury when he landed awkwardly while making an over-the-shoulder catch in the end zone during the third quarter against the Saints.
Though his right knee made initial contact with the field, Miller’s left knee appeared to buckle as it landed with most of his weight.
Bears medical personnel rushed to help the veteran, who remained on the ground for several minutes before being carted off the field.
Officials later negated the touchdown catch, ruling Miller did not maintain possession of the ball.

Makes you wonder about how big these players are getting but the joints and tendons are the same. How many stories do you read of nfl linemen retiring and they go out and lose a 100# when you look at the size of these guys they almost look like cartoon's waltzing around on these skinny little ankles, something has got to give.

Khalil Mack is officially a Chicago Bear, and he'll be a Chicago Bear for a long time.
Ryan Pace signed his new star pass rusher to a six-year, $141 million contract extension on Saturday, making him the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history
Mack's deal includes a massive $90 million guaranteed with $60 million coming right away at his signing.
His new contract averages $23.5 million a year, making nearly double the Bears' next highest-paid defensive player, Akiem Hicks, at $12 million per season.
The exact structure of the contract has not been revealed, but it's likely that the guaranteed money does not stretch over all six years, meaning the contract is unlikely to play out in its entirety before Mack needs a new one.
Pace had money to spend, and locking in the new defensive cornerstone was a requirement with the trade. Chicago is all in on Mack. Get ready for a half decade of pass-rushing excellence, Bears fans.
Khalil Mack and the Bears just reached agreeement on a record-setting 6-year, $141 million extension ($23.5M per year avg) that includes $90M guaranteed and $60M at signing, source tells ESPN.

The Bears gave up first-round picks in 2019 and 2020, a third-round pick in 2020 and a sixth-round pick in 2019 to acquire Mack!
This seems more like the Hershel Walker trade to me than the Jared Allen deal that worked out so well for the Vikes.

Chicago is a three-point favorite at home, according to Vegas Insider.
The Bears were a touchdown underdog against the Packers last week and their valiant effort to spoil Green Bay's 100th-anniversary party has created some confidence in this roster moving forward.

Jordan Howard, CHICAGO BEARS – 80.7
Jordan may not have led the NFL in yards or touchdowns this week, but he was consistently impressive in the loss to the Packers. From 15 carries, he forced three missed tackles and averaged 3.9 yards after contact per attempt.
RIGHT GUARD
Kyle Long, Chicago Bears – 81.4
Long allowed two total pressures from 46 pass-blocking snaps and was solid as a run blocker. While two pressures allowed means he wasn’t perfect in pass protection, he still produced the eighth-highest pass-blocking grade among guards this week.
EDGE DEFENDER
Khalil Mack, Chicago Bears – 93.3
The third member of the Bears to make this week’s Team of the Week, Mack was dominant in his debut, particularly in the first half. On the field for 32 pass-rushing snaps in the game, he racked up a sack and five hurries. He also had a forced fumble on one of those sacks and returned an interception for a touchdown :doah:

Everything seemed to go right for the Chicago Bears in their Week 4 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Matt Nagy's offense exploded to the tune of 48 points, and Mitchell Trubisky looked like the quarterback fans have been waiting for. The defense played its usual brand of dominance, and Tampa Bay had no answers.
It was everything the Bears needed as they head into their bye week 3-1 at the top of the NFC North standings. :happy1:

Trubisky threw seven touchdowns during his 12 game rookie season. He threw six on Sunday to go with only seven total incompletions against the Buccaneers.
He finished with a career-high 354 yards, and Bears fans are left with most (if not all) of their concerns alleviated.
The second-year quarterback played a great game, but Matt Nagy deserves a lot of the credit too. Trubisky was able to throw to wide open receivers all over the field because of well-planned route combinations run by the play-caller.

The Buccaneers had no answers for what Nagy kept throwing at them, and Trubisky took full advantage of what the head coach laid out for him.
It was a great combined effort that led to the historic passing performance of the Bears' offense.
Jordan Howard took a back seat to Tarik Cohen against the Buccaneers. The presumed No. 1 running back only had 11 carries in the game, and eight of them came in the second half with the Bears up by five touchdowns.
He once again averaged fewer than three yards per carry, and the offense had a lot more success in the Cohen-centric game plan.
This doesn't necessarily mean that Howard is demoted for the rest of the season, but it does call into question how these running back roles will change as the season goes on.
Nagy likes to mix things up in the backfield and give the defense a lot to prepare for, and Cohen seemed to do the trick versus Tampa Bay. :bow:
You won't hear Howard complaining, though, when the team wins by 38.
Tarik Cohen was the go-to guy for Matt Nagy and Mitchell Trubisky. He led the team with 13 carries for 53 yards on the ground, and seven catches for 121 yards and a touchdown through the air.
The second-year running back emerged in the dynamic role everyone was expecting from him this season. Nagy lined Cohen up all over and found different ways to get him the ball in space.
His speed was often too much for the Buccaneers to keep up with, and the misdirection kept the defense guessing where the ball was ending up.
Cohen isn't necessarily the No. 1 running back from here on out, but it's clear that the offense was at its best with him in the game.
Nagy will keep finding ways to get him the ball, and as long as the big plays keep coming, Cohen's role in the offense will continue to grow.

Another week, another sack and forced fumble by defensive MVP Khalil Mack.
He added a pass breakup and a key hit on Jameis Winston that forced an interception by Danny Trevathan, once again providing the one-man wrecking crew on the left side of the defense.

Mack continued to make big plays in the running game on top of his pass-rushing prowess, and he has been worth every penny through four games of the season.
He makes everyone else on the defense better, setting up strong games from Aaron Lynch, Bilal Nichols and the rest of Vic Fangio's unit.
Bears fans are still thanking Jon Gruden for letting the star pass-rusher go, and Ryan Pace looks smarter and smarter every week for sending the farm for Mack.
The Bears' offense was all about their short, fast guys. Tarik Cohen wasn't the only one.
Taylor Gabriel went over 100 receiving yards too, with a career-high 104 and two touchdowns on seven catches. Two of his catches went for over 30 yards.
Like Cohen, his speed proved to be too much for a young Buccaneers secondary to handle, and Matt Nagy's schemes freed up him regularly for nice throws from Mitchell Trubisky.
Allen Robinson had been Trubisky's go-to target through the first three weeks, but Gabriel reminded everyone why he earned a four-year, $26 million contract this offseason.
He can be a difference-maker in the Bears' offense, and it only took four weeks for everything to come together.

:reporter; Bears’ hold on 1st place gets stronger in Week 5
The Chicago Bears came away with a win in Week 5 despite sitting at home enjoying their bye. Their hold on first place in the NFC North got a little bit stronger.
Chicago's only loss this season came in Week 1 against the Packers when the Bears squandered a 20-point lead and what would've been a remarkable 4-0 start. As a result, Green Bay still has the faith and confidence from NFL analysts and insiders as the team to beat in the division.
Sunday began with the Bears sitting atop the NFC North at 3-1 with the Packers in second place at 2-1-1. The Vikings, at 1-2-1, and the Lions, at 1-3, entered Week 5 as struggling clubs in need of a big win to build momentum heading toward midseason.
The Vikings got that win in Philadelphia, 23-21, and Detroit upset the Packers, 31-23.
And while the Vikings and Lions each earned that crucial win they needed, the Bears received a big assist from Detroit. Green Bay's loss puts them at 2-2-1 heading into a Week 6 Monday night game
they're likely to win at home against the 49ers.
If the Bears want to reign supreme in the NFC North, they have to slay the Packers. And in a 16-week NFL season, getting a few assists like they did in Week 5 will go a long way toward accomplishing their goal.

Another week gone, and another week in first place for the Chicago Bears. :moon: Even though the Bears had their bye, they managed to see their lead in the NFC North increase thanks to the Detroit Lions beating the Green Bay Packers. It wasn’t a perfect off=weekend for them however as the Minnesota Vikings held on against the Philadelphia Eagles. :bonk:
Here’s how the NFC North standings look this week.

It was a week off for the Bears, who, after launching the Bucs into their bye week rudderless and mired in quarterback questions, probably would have preferred to keep playing. The worst time to sit? Rather than riding the wave of Mitch Trubisky’s prolific play and a defense that rampaged through September, Chicago got an early week off. Okie dokie.

Agree. After watching Sunday's game the Vikes have plenty of issues to address before I'm sold. The injury bug and turnovers could send this thing back down the turlet in a hurry for them. Khalil Mack Undergoing Tests on Injured Ankle

The Bears upcoming loss might be bigger than the one they suffered this weekend.
Chicago looks like an actual team this year and that's mostly thanks to the arrival of Khalil Mack. He has been nothing short of a superstar and has been worth the high price of acquiring him. Mack has been the backbone of this Bears' defense, which took a huge hit as he left Sunday's game with an ankle injury.
The Bears have announced that he'll undergo tests to see if there's any larger damage looming.
It seems precautionary, but still far from ideal. :banghead:
Mack left during the first half, but came back in to finish the rest of the game. It clearly bothered him as he finished without a sack or a forced fumble for the first time as a Bear.
Mack has been one of the most important players in the league for this team and needs to be healthy if the Bears are going to be anywhere near a playoff team.

Despite a disappointing defeat, you’ll be delighted to know the Bears are still quite good.
Contrary to popular belief, the sky is not falling for the Bears. Sometimes good teams lose games they should win. Sometimes good teams lose games they shouldn’t win. (Which is what the Bears almost accomplished against the Dolphins on Sunday).

Yet despite suffering their second defeat of the 2018 season, however, the advanced efficiency numbers are still quite kind to the Bears. A slight drop off isn’t what you would have thought it to be. This is a good football team that suffered one road loss, case closed.
After sitting at No. 2 overall in Football Outsiders’ DVOA for three consecutive weeks, Sunday’s loss in Miami only had the Bears fall to No. 3 overall. Surprise, surprise! The two teams ahead of Chicago, in the Chiefs and Rams respectively, are the early presumed Super Bowl favorites.
Meanwhile, despite letting up over 540 yards of offense and 31 points to ... Brock Osweiler,
the Bears maintained their stranglehold of the No. 1 overall defensive rating in DVOA. :moon: One bad blemish of a week where they missed an astonishing 19 tackles isn’t enough to sink the league’s best defense through six weeks of play.
What likely buoyed the Bears’ metrics overall to withstand a poor loss is a rise in their offensive play. At the start of the 2018 season, Chicago’s attack was putrid and Mitchell Trubisky played at a mediocre level. An overall stellar last two weeks for both in a complete blowout over the Buccaneers and a resolving almost-comeback, has the Bears sitting with the NFL’s No. 14 offense in DVOA. For the first time in over six seasons, Chicago has a top-half defense and offense.
That sound you’re hearing is the world imploding in on itself at the reality of a balanced roster at Halas Hall coming together. :happy1:

New England's all-pro tight end had initially been listed as questionable with a back injury and wound up not making the trip with the team. :lipsrsealed:
The oft-injured Gronk, who absorbs nearly as much punishment as he doles out, has not played a full 16-game regular season since 2011, his second year in the NFL.
He has 26 catches for 405 yards and one TD in 2018.
Dwayne Allen, a blocking specialist, should pick up the bulk of Gronkowski's snaps against the Bears, who have allowed the fourth-fewest points in the league.

For all of the hand-wringing that the Patriots faced after a 1-2 start, the defending AFC champions seem to have snapped out of their early-season struggles.
The return of Julian Edelman has sparked New England's offense, which has scored 81 points in its last two games, but Rob Gronkowski has been ruled out of Sunday's game with a back injury.

Chicago coach Matt Nagy knows how to attack a Bill Belichick outfit. He was Kansas City's offensive coordinator last year when the Chiefs scored a stunning 42-27 victory over New England in the season opener. And though his offense can't match the explosiveness or efficiency of this year's Chiefs team, which just last week pushed Belichick's crew in a 43-40 shootout, it still can deploy the kind of wrinkles that could throw the Patriots off their game.

Chicago Bears outside linebacker Khalil Mack, who has never missed a game since entering the NFL in 2014, on Friday was listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the New York Jets because of a nagging right ankle injury.
Mack, who was a dominating force in the Bears' first four games after being acquired in a trade with the Oakland Raiders on the week of the season opener, sustained the sprained ankle two weeks ago against the Miami Dolphins.

On Friday, Mack was limited after missing the Bears' previous two practice sessions. The Bears are considering having Mack miss a game, or two, so he will be strong in the second half of the season.
"It's not easy, it's not easy," Bears coach Matt Nagy said of the decision to possibly sit Mack. "That's where the trust level from both ends have to be there. The player has to understand where we're coming from as a team, as to where you're at percentage-wise. We all know he's not 100 percent, but where are you at?
"That's where we trust him, he trusts us, and we go ahead with the plan -- with the action plan -- and that's what we ended up doing. It's not an easy decision or process."
Mack had 17 total tackles, including five sacks, and forced four fumbles in the first four games of the season, but he has only three tackles and no sacks in the two games since being injured.

The Bears also might be without wide receiver Allen Robinson (groin), who is listed as questionable for Sunday. Robinson is the Bears' third-leading receiver this season with 25 catches for 285 yards and two touchdowns.
Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack has not been as dominant in the last two games because of an ankle injury and might sit out Sunday against the New York Jets.

The Bears started out hot, going 3-1 before dropping their next two to go to 3-3 :cry: entering Sunday’s Week 8 showdown with the New York Jets. After a definitive win, one that saw running back Tarik Cohen take a short screen pass 70 yards for a touchdown, the Bears moved their record to 4-3, and are now sitting pretty atop the NFC North standings, thanks to losses by the the Packers, Vikings and Lions. :rotflmao:
But, it’s been a strange two weeks for Chicago when it comes to their division ranking.
The NFL is a wild :taz: and crazy :crazy: league. And that’s why, they play the game.

Report: :reporter; Bears OL Kyle Long out 6-8 weeks with foot injury
Kyle Long continues to be plagued by injuries.
Long is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with a foot injury he suffered in Week 8, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. Long injured his foot late in the Chicago Bears’ win over the New York Jets. The guard was carted off the field.
Long has missed 14 games over the past two seasons due to multiple injuries. He underwent multiple surgeries over the off season.
Sources: #Bears standout G Kyle Long is out 6-8 weeks with a foot injury suffered on Sunday. He’s getting more info, but that’s best estimate right now. A tough loss for that offense on the field and in the locker room.

Bears injury report: Khalil Mack’s status hasn’t changed :banghead:
With another game against a lowly offense on the horizon, it’s likely the Bears superstar gets another week to rest an ailing ankle.
The Bears are going to play the NFL’s worst offense on Sunday in the Bills. Not only does Buffalo have pro football’s worst offense this individual year, it’s also historically the worst ever. If there were an ideal week to hypothetically give a defensive cornerstone another day off to get fully healthy, it’d be this one. By no coincidence, expect that to be the likely case when it comes to Chicago’s Khalil Mack.
On Wednesday, Mack entered what head coach Matt Nagy called a “similar” practice plan of what the Bears’ star has been through in recent weeks. That means not participating on Wednesday and Thursday, and a limited designation on Friday. It also means evaluating the situation honestly and deciding you can afford to give Mack rest against a putrid Buffalo offense that will in many ways beat itself.
The moral of the story, is that even if he was closer to 100 percent healthy: don’t expect Mack to play against the Bills on Sunday.
In other major injury report news, Allen Robinson is still dealing with a groin injury he suffered a little under two weeks ago. There was no official update on his status aside from the fact that he’s still dealing with it. Buffalo actually does have a competent defense, so you could make the case that the Bears need their No. 1 receiver to enjoy offensive success on the road.
Meanwhile, Eric Kush was limited with neck stingers that bothered him for most of October. With unfortunate news that Kyle Longwill most of the rest of the Bears’ regular season, the status of Kush looms large the rest of the way. Chicago’s top interior reserve offensive lineman is more than likely going to have to play this Sunday, even if he isn’t fully recovered. That’s just the nature of the NFL beast where most players aren’t technically “healthy” by this time of year.

Trubisky was blasted by analyst Mike Lombardi, a former NFL general manager, who said Bears fans will be selling their No. 10 jerseys three years from now during a radio interview Monday. On Tuesday, Trubisky was ranked near the bottom of the league's starting quarterbacks by Pro Football Focus.
He checked in at No. 29, ahead of only Sam Darnold (Jets), Nick Mullens (49ers) and Nathan Peterman (Bills). :scratch:

Don't be fooled by the final score. The Chicago Bears dominated the Detroit Lions and while the game will go down in the stat sheet as a 12-point victory, it was nowhere near that close.
We run a studs and duds column every week here on Bears Wire and we do our best to find an even and balanced approach to each game. It was a real struggle to find more than one dud in Week 10 (and it won't come as a surprise who the main dud is).
The coaching staff called a great game and the offense and defense played like units capable of contending for a championship.

Here are the top studs and few duds from Sunday's win over the Lions.
Hats off to Mitchell Trubisky for setting a career high with 355 passing yards Sunday against the Lions in the first NFC North victory of his career. He accounted for four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) and was a one-man wrecking crew all afternoon.
The most exciting part of Trubisky's performance was how he did it. He's had big numbers in other games this season, but Sunday was by far his most confident, accurate and decisive performance. He threw the ball like a legitimate franchise quarterback and took a huge - massive! - step toward silencing the critics.
Allen Robinson had his breakout game as a Bear, hauling in six catches for 133 yards and two touchdowns. Robinson played like a dominant All-Pro receiver, something Chicago hasn't had since the glory days of Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery.
The Bears' coaching staff made an educated choice to sit Robinson the last two games in order to get his injured groin (and, let's not forget, his surgically repaired knee) to 100 percent before this key playoff run. It was a brilliant decision.
Robinson was explosive and fast. He was a confident route-runner and didn't look like a player who is 14 months removed from a torn ACL.
Robinson will be the alpha-receiver and most dangerous playmaker for the Bears from here on out.
Allen Robinson's huge game overshadowed Anthony Miller's career day, but as the dust settles on this game, Miller's performance will receive the credit it deserves.
Miller ended the game with five catches for 122 yards and a touchdown. He's getting better by the week and looks like a seasoned veteran. It's hard to believe he's just a rookie.
The Bears traded next year's second-round pick to secure Miller in last April's draft, and my oh my is it paying off. Miller has quickly become one of the best offensive rookies in the NFL.
Khalil Mack returned after a two-game absence to sack Matthew Stafford two times and disrupt the flow of the Lions' running game. It was great to see him return to Defensive Player of the Year form.
The defense, all around, played fast and physical with Mack back in the lineup. He elevates the play of everyone around him and the Lions were left scratching and clawing for production throughout the game.
The curious case of the Chicago Bears rushing attack continued in Week 10 despite leading by as many as 26 points at one point in the game.
Jordan Howard ended the game with just 11 carries for 21 yards. Tarik Cohen didn't fare any better; he ended Week 10 with seven carries for 15 yards. Mitch Trubisky was the most productive runner, toting the ball three times for 18 yards and a touchdown.
If the Bears want to bring their offense to the next level, they have to find a way to incorporate a more consistent and successful running game down the stretch.
Cody Parkey was awful Sunday. He missed two field goals and two extra points and seemed to aim for the goalposts rather than try to kick the ball through them.
Parkey has entered the hold-your-breath territory as a kicker, and that's never a good thing. He looks like he's lost all of his confidence, something that's really hard to get back once it's gone.
The Bears have to bring in kickers this week to send a message to Parkey. Don't expect a change to come right away, but Ryan Pace can't be stubborn on this one. A missed kick or two can be the difference between winning or losing in the playoffs.
Chicago is too good to have a kicker blow a promising season.

As for the rest of the NFC North, the Packers moved up two spots to No. 13 and the Lions fell to No. 28.
The Saints remain No. 1 after their blowout victory over the Bengals while the Rams drop to No. 3 despite defeating the Seahawks in a hard-fought game.
Now 6-3, the Bears are riding a three-game winning streak into Sunday's night's battle at Soldier Field. If when they pull off a victory over the Vikings, Chicago could Will find itself in the top five of power rankings around the league.

The Chicago Bears propelled themselves into playoff contention with their 25-20 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday night, showing off a potentially championship-caliber defense en route to the divisional victory.
Vic Fangio's group was locked in on all three levels and shut down Kirk Cousins until the final few minutes of the game.
Meanwhile, the Bears' offense did enough to stay afloat and secure the W with a few bumps along the way.
Here are the studs and duds from Chicago's Week 11 win.
Stud: Khalil Mack
It's hard to find new things to say about Khalil Mack.
Once again, he was an unstoppable force from the outside linebacker position, and he reestablished himself as a top Defensive Player of the Year candidate.
Mack finished with a sack, two quarterback hits, a pass breakup, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the win over Minnesota.
Whether it be the running game or rushing the passer, he was disruptive on seemingly every snap, and his presence just makes everyone else's job easier on the defense.
He continues to be worth every penny and draft pick the Bears gave up for him.
Dud: Bryan Witzmann
No one on the Bears played horribly, but right guard Bryan Witzmann was among those who weren't contributing much.
Even though Jordan Howard was able to get a little more production in the running game, Witzmann struggled to create much movement up front.
He also looked to be the weak link in pass protection, getting beat for Mitchell Trubisky's only sack of the game.
His performance wasn't enough to sabotage the offense, but Chicago could use better from their right guard in the wake of Kyle Long's injury.
Stud: Akiem Hicks
Akiem Hicks gave Khalil Mack a run for his money as the team's best defensive player in the game.
He didn't have a forced fumble, but he had a sack and two QB hits of his own to go with four other tackles for loss in the running game.
The Vikings failed to consistently block him on the interior, and he gave Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook fits all night.
Hicks seems to be even better than he was last year in what looked like a breakout season.
Many Bears fans thought he was snubbed from the Pro Bowl, and he's making an even stronger case in 2018.
Stud: Eddie Jackson
Eddie Jackson's name didn't come up for most of the Bears win over the Vikings.
For a deep safety, that means he was doing a great job.
Kirk Cousins rarely through the ball in his direction because of tight coverage down the field.
But Jackson wasn't going to go unnoticed for the whole night.
He came up with a huge pick-six in the fourth quarter to help put the game out of reach.
He now has three interceptions, two forced fumbles and two touchdowns this season, a breakout candidate of his own making a case for the Pro Bowl.
Dud: Roquan Smith
Roquan Smith wasn't bad, but he still made too many rookie mistakes for a linebacker in his 10th game.
Early on, he missed an easy tackle on wide receiver Stefon Diggs that allowed a big first down because of the extra yards after the catch.
He was also flagged with a defensive pass interference penalty down the stretch in the fourth quarter that helped keep Minnesota alive.
Smith left a lot to be desired in coverage, but he did make a few nice tackles in run defense.
He hasn't stood out as a play-making linebacker just yet, but it's still early in his young career.
Stud: Cody Parkey
Cody Parkey received plenty of attention for hitting the upright four times last week against the Detroit Lions, so the pressure was on for a bounceback game against the Vikings.
He delivered with three field goals, including an important 48-yarder that gave the Bears some breathing room.
Matt Nagy didn't give him any opportunities to kick extra points, converting a pair of two-point conversions instead, but those decisions seemed to be based on scoreboard math rather than any issue with the kicker.
His teammates and coaching staff never lost faith in him, but Parkey needed a game like this to keep his confidence for two more games in the Windy City this season.

The Chicago Bears won a statement game Sunday night against the Minnesota Vikings while improving their record to 7-3 and maintaining sole possession of first place in the NFC No
The win established Chicago as the unquestioned best team in the division. The inquiry now is how this Bears team stacks up against the rest of the field in the NFC.
The Saints (9-1) and Rams (9-1) are no doubt the most feared teams in the conference, but that third spot in the NFC may just belong to the Bears right now.
According to the expert oddsmakers in Las Vegas, it does.
Chicago has the third-best chances of making the Super Bowl out of the NFC and the sixth-best odds of all 32 NFL teams, via Vegas Insider, at 16/1.
The Saints have the best odds (7/2) while the Rams (4/1) aren't far behind.
The Bears will have another chance to impress a national audience on Thanksgiving Day in Detroit against the Lions and again in Week 14 on Sunday night against the Rams. The Giants are sandwiched in between.

Earlier today we brought you guys what we thought was going to be the only Chicago Bears’ injury news of the day with Adam Shaheen and Aaron Lynch entering the concussion protocol, but this latest bit of news was quite noteworthy.
With the Bears playing on Thursday, they had to issue an injury report “as if” they would have practiced today, and according to the Bears, if they would have practiced then starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky would have sat out with a right shoulder injury that he sustained last night against the Minnesota Vikings.
Trubisky and head coach Matt Nagy are scheduled to meet the media tomorrow, so they’ll hopefully shed more light on the injury, but as you can see in the celebratory video below, he didn’t appear to be in much pain post-game.
There’s also this picture of Mitch taken after the game and his right shoulder isn’t restricting him from raising the ball high as he ran off the field.
As to where the injury may may taken place, the article picture at the top of the page is the aftermath of a second half scramble for a first down where his arm was bent back slightly on his slide. On the play he slid down and appeared to brace himself awkwardly with his right arm, and you can see that play at about the 3:00 mark of this highlight video.
If Trubisky can’t go on Thanksgiving against the Detroit Lions, it’ll be back-up QB Chase Daniel making the third start of his nine year career.

With a comfortable division lead in the NFC North with a 7-3 record, the Chicago Bears will have to keep things rolling with another division matchup against the Lions.
Fortunately for Chicago, they will be expecting Mitchell Trubisky to play even though he suffered a shoulder injury late in the game against the Vikings on Sunday.

After five-yard run late in the game, Trubisky seemed to favor his throwing shoulder when going back to the sideline.
While Bears fans shouldn't be overly concerned with Thursday's matchup against Detroit, it's important to note that the Lions just had a huge win over the Panthers and Chicago will be traveling on a short week.
With that being said, having Trubisky healthy is obviously a necessity if they want a strong chance of winning this Thanksgiving showdown (and continuing to pile up victories in the weeks moving forward).
Luckily for Chicago, Trubisky will be able to catch up on some rest after this contest, with their next game kicking off on Dec. 2 against the New York Giants.
This team has the potential to do some damage in the playoffs if they can finish off this division, which means the health of their starting quarterback is going to be something to monitor moving forward.

There’s short weeks, and then there’s the 84.5 hour turnaround the Bears have while playing the Lions on Thanksgiving after a Sunday night bout with the Vikings. That short week is the main reason the Bears will be without Mitchell Trubisky, as if this NFC North game was played on Sunday, it’s likely the 24-year-old would have featured: bruised shoulder and all.
Nevertheless, the Bears are still the better team on paper, and the Lions themselves are also dealing with their own surplus of injuries in the same manner.

The Bears travel to New York to face the Giants (3-8) in Week 13 in a game that on paper seems like a safe bet for Chicago to win. But the Giants have been playing better football as of late and it's not a contest that can be viewed like the Jets and Bills games earlier this season.
The Bears held Khalil Mack and Allen Robinson out of those games to allow them to get back to 100 percent health, a decision that was made easier because of the quality (or lack thereof) of Chicago's opponent. :happy1:

Vikings’ Xavier Rhodes hamstring injury could end his season, ex-NFL team doctor speculat
Vikings Pro Bowl cornerback Xavier Rhodes suffered an apparent right hamstring injury late in Sunday night’s 24-17 victory over Green Bay that a former NFL team doctor speculated could require surgery.
Looking at the injury on video, Dr. David Chao, a former San Diego Chargers head team physician, said in a phone interview that he believes Rhodes most likely suffered a proximal hamstring avulsion, an injury that would end his season. Chao writes a column on NFL injuries for the Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union-Tribune and is a medical analyst for SiriusXM NFL Radio.
“Keep in mind this is based on video, but I’m concerned this could be near the only type of hamstring injury that would require surgery,’’ Chao said. “That would end his season even if the Vikings went to the Super Bowl.’’
With 2:38 left in the game at U.S. Bank Stadium, Rhodes went down while covering Davante Adams, who had caught a 36-yard pass to the Minnesota 29. Rhodes was looked at on the field for a minute and then limped off clutching his right leg. He did not return to the game.
“I can’t speak on what it is or anything, but you obviously don’t want to see your guys limping,” Vikings safety Harrison Smith said. “He’s a tough guy. He’ll be all right.”
Coach Mike Zimmer said after the game he didn’t have an update on Rhodes.
Chao based his analysis off watching Rhodes on video tackle Adams on the sideline.
“After the tackle, he rolls back onto his feet in a very unusual position and I believe at that point in time, it’s just video I’m seeing, but I’m worried he has a proximal hamstring avulsion,’’ Chao said.
While a typical hamstring injury is a tear, Chao said the type of injury he believes Rhodes suffered was muscle coming off the bone.
Rhodes had some troubles early in the game against Adams, and was beaten for a 15-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. After that, he shut down Adams for most of the game until his late long catch. Adams finished with five receptions for 69 yards.
“It’s always a good battle,” Zimmer said. “Davante Adams is a really, really good receiver, and Xavier is a really, really good cornerback. … It was probably each of them won a few (battles).”

The Chicago Bears have had one of the NFL’s top defenses in 2018. People within the organization feel that coordinator Vic Fangio will depart for a head coaching job in 2019.
In a mailbag, Jay Glazer of The Athletic was asked if he feels that Fangio will be a head coach next year. He responded that “I know the Bears are fearful that Vic Fangio could get a shot (as head coach.)

Fangio, in his fourth year as Chicago’s defensive coordinator, has long been regarded as one of the NFL’s top defensive minds. Before going to the Bears, was the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-2014. That unit was generally regarded as one of the league’s best under Fangio, as well.
There are two things that could prevent Fangio from getting hired.

One is that he’s 60. Recent trends have shown that teams seem to be looking for younger coaches.
The other problem with Fangio is that he’s a defensive coach. While there are exceptions, recent head coaching hires have trended towards offensive minds. With the game becoming more offensive, that trend will likely become more prominent. :confused:

But Fangio has a long history of success and getting the most out of what’s in front of him. We could see some teams shying away from Fangio. But given the success of the Bears, we’d say it’s far more likely than not that Fangio will get one of the many head coaching jobs that will likely be available. :banghead: (no! not dat!) :sad:

Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Bears plan to start Chase Daniel at quarterback against the Giants on Sunday. Daniel started in Chicago’s Thanksgiving win over the Lions while Trubisky was inactive due to the right shoulder injury he is still dealing with this week.
Garafolo also reports that Trubisky could play right now, but that the team is choosing to play it safe. Head coach Matt Nagy has hinted that the team would go in this direction by comparing Trubisky’s situation to the one the team was in with linebacker Khalil Mack and wide receiver Allen Robinson earlier this season. :happy1:

Both those players were held out of two straight games earlier this year to ensure they recovered fully from injuries before getting back on the field. EDIT: Late Saturday night the Bears announced that tight end Trey Burton was added to the injury report as questionable with a groin issue.
With kickoff at 3:40 pm (Central) on Sunday, the Bears need to announce their inactive list at 2:10 pm. If Burton can’t go it could increase the role from #2 tight end Adam Shaheen, and backups Ben Braunecker and Daniel Brown could see some extra snaps as well.
Then again the Bears could elect to run more three wide out sets now that their top three wide outs
Robinson, Gabriel, and Miller) are all healthy. Backing up at receiver are Josh Bellamy, Kevin White and Javon Wims.

Friday, January 4 - The Chicago Bears aren’t completely healthy heading into their first playoff game in eight years, but the training room at Halas Hall hasn’t exactly been a busy place this season.
Outside linebacker Aaron Lynch hasn’t played or practiced since injuring his elbow on December 15 against the Green Bay Packers, and he’s listed as doubtful. My guess is he does not play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. :doah:
Free safety Eddie Jackson was hurt in that same game, but his ankle is progressing a bit better and he’s listed as questionable after practicing in a limited capacity the last two days. My guess is he plays on Sunday.
Defensive lineman Bilal Nichols is also questionable with that knee issue, but lately he’s always questionable and he always plays.
Safety Deandre Houston-Carson also popped up on the injury report today with a rib injury and since he missed practice he was listed as questionable.
Wide outs Allen Robinson II (ribs), Taylor Gabriel (ribs), and Anthony Miller (shoulder) have been full participants this week at practice and all will play.

I do feel bad for Parkey. The kick was tipped come to find out so not totally on him.
Kickers in general especially these younger models seem to become head cases & burn out pretty quickly. Don't see many Janikowski's anymore.

The Bears will release the maligned kicker when the new league year starts in March, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
His fate was sealed when he appeared on the "TODAY" show after his missed field goal at the end of the Bears' wildcard loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. :bonk:
Parkey finished the regular season 23-of-30 on field goals, good for 76.6 percent, with three missed extra points during the year. :cry:
He was set to cost the Bears just over $4 million against the salary cap for 2019, and his release will cost Ryan Pace just under $5.2 million due to the guaranteed money still owed on the contract.
Chicago signed former Tulsa kicker Redford Jones to a reserve/future contract earlier this offseason, and the release of Parkey signals they'll bring in even more kicking competition.

Bears safety Adrian Amos is expected to be one of the most coveted defensive free agents on the open market, and with the Giants' decision to not franchise tag Landon Collins, New York could be a real threat to lure Amos away.

Amos has been one of Chicago's most reliable defenders over the last few seasons and has turned into one of GM Ryan Pace's best draft picks. Pace selected Amos in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL draft, which is usually a round that's reserved for depth and special teams players.

Amos is coming off back-to-back quality seasons for the Bears. He graded as the team's sixth-best defender in 2018, per Pro Football Focus, and was the team's highest-graded defender in 2017.
Now, he'll get a chance to see just how valued he is across the league. The NFL's top safeties are paid between $10 million and $13 million annually, and if Amos is considered in that elite class by at least one team, he'll be as good as gone.
Amos isn't the only key Bears defender hitting the open market. Cornerback Bryce Callahan is expected to have suitors, too, making Pace's job that much more complicated. He can't go 0-for-2 in his attempt to keep the defense in-tact, but there's a good chance both players will be offered contracts at a level the Bears simply cannot match.

If the Bears indeed get the Thursday night opener, it would be televised on NBC.

After spending the first four years of his career in the NFC North, it appears that Cordarrelle Patterson is now headed back to the division.
According to ESPN.com, the former Patriots receiver has agreed to terms on a two-year deal with the Bears that will pay him a total of $10 million. Patterson is headed for Chicago after spending just one year in New England.
During the Patriots' Super Bowl winning season, Patterson basically served as a Swiss Army knife for coach Bill Belichick. Not only did he play receiver, but the Patriots also regularly lined him as a running back. As a matter of fact, Patterson's rushing numbers in 2018 (42 carries, 228 yards, one touchdown) were almost as good as his receiving numbers (21 receptions, 247 yards, three touchdowns).
Of course, the biggest reason the Bears signed him might be for his kick return skills. During the 2018 season, Patterson averaged 28.8 yards per return, which ranked third overall in the NFL. That number will be a huge boost for a Bears special teams unit that ranked dead last in the NFL with an average of just 19.1 yards per return in 2018.
The Bears actually got a first-hand taste last season of what Patterson is capable of doing in the return game. During a Week 7 game between the Patriots and Bears, Patterson returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown during the second quarter of New England's 38-31 win.
Including that score, Patterson has a total of 23 touchdowns in his career, with six coming by return, seven coming on the ground and 10 coming through the air. Patterson's versatility will likely make him a perfect fit for Matt Nagy's offense in Chicago, which means you shouldn't be surprised if you see Patterson catching passes, lining up in the backfield and returning kicks for the Bears in 2019.
The Bears will be the fourth team that Patterson has played for over the past four seasons. :doah: Before agreeing to terms with Chicago, Patterson spent one season with both the Patriots and Raiders (2017). Prior to that, Patterson spent four seasons with the Vikings after they made him a first-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

"Decent year" is relative, and only seems good because it was with New England and Tom Brady.
In his first two seasons with MN, Patterson's catch percentage was just 58.4 and 49.3%. That ain't good. He only had 2 catches in 2015, and his production has been declining since his "bounce back" season in 2016.
2016, Minnesota, 52 catches, 453 yards, 2 TD, Catch percentage 74.3%
2017, Oakland, 31 catches, 309 yards, 0 TD, Catch percentage 73.8%
2018, New England, 21 catches, 247 yards, 3 TD, Catch percentage 75.0%
Good luck, Bears. As a Vikes fan I'll be happy to see him on the field for Bears' offensive plays. I don't think Zim's defense will be a-scared of him.

The award was voted on by executives around the league who agreed Pace had the best year.
It started with hiring Nagy, followed by a strong free agent group and a draft class that contributed from day one.
Then he put the cherry on top with the Khalil Mack trade in September, setting the Bears up with their best season since 2006.
The success the team had on the field was a direct reflection of what Pace accomplished in the offseason prior, culminating in an Executive of the Year caliber season.

The Philadelphia Eagles are adding another running back to their position group.
The Eagles have acquired Jordan Howard in a trade with the Chicago Bears, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, which the Eagles confirmed. Schefter says the Bears are receiving a sixth-round pick in 2020 as part of the deal that can become a fifth-rounder.

The Bears had been shopping Howard and found a taker in Philadelphia. The deal makes sense for both sides. Chicago has Tarik Cohen and Mike Davis and wanted to get something before losing Howard in free agency. Philly really doesn’t have a No. 1 back and is more or less collecting decent options like Wendell Smallwood, Corey Clement, Josh Adams and Donnel Pumphrey.

Howard had 935 yards and nine touchdowns last season. He had 1,122 and 1,313 yards in the two previous seasons and may end up being the feature back in Philly.

Head coach Matt Nagy brought in eight kickers for rookie camp to find Parkey’s replacement and immediately wanted to challenge them out of the gate. Instead, Chicago’s first session of the kicking competition got off to an ironic and laughable start.
The shanks: Six different attempts to do what Parkey couldn’t, with far less pressure and even better kicking conditions, all six missed going through the uprights. :rotflmao:

In an ideal world, Chicago would love to bring back Robbie Gould to solve its kicking woes and reunite one of the team’s old icons with the city.
Gould, who received the franchise tag, is refusing to sign the tender and recently asked the San Francisco 49ers to be traded.
Unfortunately for Gould and the Bears, the 49ers do not seem interested in relenting and plan to keep him in San Francisco. :banghead:
All Matt Nagy can hope for at this point is a quick turnaround by the young kickers and for one to step up and prove he is worthy for a spot.
Nagy took a gamble by having them all attempt the very same kick that is now burned into the history of Chicago sports and it backfired. At least things can only go up from here for the kickers trying out. :confused:

Seems like it usually is :scratch: as most teams would rather sign somebody off the street or get 1 right out of college than pay a kicker more than $1-2 mil/year. :bonk: I'm sure some of that's tryin to manage the salary cap but a kicker can decide 2-3 games a year, no problem. :confused:

The rivalry between the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears is among the oldest in the NFL, and some recent antics by Aaron Rodgers at the expense of Matt Nagy makes the case that there is no offseason when it comes to these two organizations.
The Bears head coach relayed a story this week about an encounter with the Packers quarterback at a celebrity golf tournament. According to Nagy, Rodgers attempted to embarrass him in front of a large crowd with an attempted trip.
Nagy and Rodgers were both participants in the American Century Championship in Lake Tahoe in July. The hosts of the event held an event ahead of the tournament where all the celebrities were to be introduced. When Nagy’s name was called, Rodgers seized upon the opportunity to attempt a prank.
“I’m scrambling in the back to stand up and there’s about a hundred guys sitting in the back row, and as I’m walking, all of the sudden I trip,” Nagy recalled after Thursday’s practice, via the Chicago Sun-Times. “I look back, and someone stuck their knee out to trip me.
“I look back and he’s just sitting there and he’s staring at me, laughing, with this grin. I just looked at him and all I thought about was, ‘This is gonna be fun.’ That was the interaction we had, and I think it was a mutual respect.”
It’s admirable that Nagy had a great sense of humor about Rodgers’ attempt to trip him up, but one has to wonder if he would found as much humor in the situation had he face-planted in front of all those people.
In any event, odds are Nagy will wait until next offseason if he hopes to exact revenge on Rodgers over the prank. Then again, perhaps nothing would satisfy Nagy more than to beat Rodgers and the Packers in their two NFC North division showdowns this season, although that wouldn’t necessarily have anything do with his encounter with the quarterback over the summer.

We all remember Minnesota sport teams draft screw-ups.
- Vikes just wasted 2 5th round picks in two years on a kickers for cripe's sake and neither guy is on the team.
- And don't forget picking Blair Walsh in the 6th round in 2012, who from 2014 to 2016 missed a total of 18 field goal attempts and eight extra point attempts.
- Still remember Denny Green's First Round "bonus" pick of Dimitrius Underwood, who left the team on the first day of training camp (and later diagnosed with sever bi-polar issues - poor guy).
- Only got one good season out of Matt Kalil, who was supposed to lock down the LT position for a decade.
- And what about all the first round receivers we drafted who couldn't catch: Troy Williamson, Cordarrelle Patterson, Laquon Treadwell. Did I miss anyone?
- Then we had our own QB draft reach blunder in 2011... Remember Christian Ponder?

1 - New England Patriots (Last Week: 1) - Antonio Brown drama aside, it’s been smooth sailing for the Pats as they’ve rolled to 3-0. They’ll face their biggest challenge this week with a road game in Buffalo.
2 - Kansas City Chiefs (LW: 2) - Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs are just too good. Who’s gonna be able to beat them?
3 - Los Angeles Rams (LW: 3) - Jared Goff has thrown 11 touchdowns to 11 interceptions since Week 13 last season. The Rams are undefeated for now but they’re not going to be in great shape moving forward if he doesn’t play better.
4 - Green Bay Packers (LW: 4) - Green Bay’s defense has allowed just 35 points through three games this season. The Packers’ pass rush is graded No. 1 in the NFL by Pro Football Focus. Pairing Aaron Rodgers with a strong defense is certainly a winning combination.
5 - Baltimore Ravens (LW: 5) - The Ravens don’t have much to hang their heads about after losing a close one in KC. Baltimore’s still one of the toughest teams in the AFC.
6 - New Orleans Saints (LW: 10) - Great response by the Saints to win in Seattle after not looking so great when Drew Brees went down last week. Teddy Bridgewater could be able to keep the Saints’ season afloat until Brees returns.
7 - Dallas Cowboys (LW: 8) - The Cowboys have had an easy path to 3-0. Let’s see how they do with the schedule now getting a little tougher. Next up is a game in the Superdome.
8 - Seattle Seahawks (LW: 6) - The Seahawks have looked unusually vulnerable at home early on. They only beat Cincy by one point in Week 1 and now they’re coming off a loss to a backup quarterback. Something to watch.
9 - Indianapolis Colts (LW: 12) - 2-1 with an overtime road loss is a pretty great start for a team whose starting quarterback unexpectedly retired just a couple weeks before the regular season. Frank Reich’s team might very well be the best in the AFC South.
10 - Houston Texans (LW: 13) - Still reluctant to fully buy in to this team but they’re not terrible. Having Deshaun Watson helps negate some of their other issues.
11 - San Francisco 49ers (LW: 17) - Don’t look now but the 49ers are 3-0. Maybe they end up winning the NFC West?
12 - Chicago Bears (LW: 15) - Weekly entry: Mitchell Trubisky caps this team’s ceiling but the defense will often give them a chance to win.
13 - Minnesota Vikings (LW: 16) - Dalvin Cook is dangerous. The 2017 second-round pick has already logged 57 carries for 375 yards (6.6 average!) and four touchdowns. He also has nine receptions for 79 yards. Stinks the Eagles missed out on him.

14 - Buffalo Bills (LW: 18) - Circle the wagons, the Bills are 3-0 heading into a huge home game versus the Pats. This is Buffalo’s moment to prove they’re the best team in the AFC East. Can they pull it off? Most will believe it when they see it.
15 - Detroit Lions (LW: 19) - The Lions haven’t looked overly impressive en route to 2-0-1 but they’ve done enough to not lose. They have their work cut out for them in a very competitive NFC North.
16 - Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 9) - Injuries and the lack of a true home field advantage are doing the Bolts no favors as they drop to 1-2.
17 - Atlanta Falcons (LW: 11) - The Falcons aren’t that far off from being 0-3 right now. They haven’t looked great.
18 - Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 7) - Big drop for the Eagles, who continue to find ways to beat themselves. Carson Wentz had to deal with eight drops, three offensive pass interference penalties, and two drive-killing fumbles in a loss to Detroit. It’d be nice if his teammates could actually help him out, especially with Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, and Dallas Goedert all injured.
19 - Carolina Panthers (LW: 23) - Kyle Allen is undefeated as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Just a fluke or can he keep it up during Cam Newton’s absence? And does Newton get benched at some point?
20 - Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 24) - Gardner Minshew mania is running wild down in Duval. The rookie quarterback is sporting a 110.6 passer rating through three games so far. Does Nick Foles even get his job back if Minshew continue to play well?
21 - Tennessee Titans (LW: 14) - It’s really only a matter of time until the Titans pull the plug on Marcus Mariota and insert Ryan Tannehill as their new starting quarterback. It’s probably worth a shot.
22 - Pittsburgh Steelers (LW: 20) - The Steelers are 0-3 and they’ll be counting on Mason Rudolph to dig them out that hole. Good luck with that, Pittsburgh.
23 - Cleveland Browns (LW: 21) - The Browns’ struggling offensive line is going to hold them back from living up to the hype.
24 - New York Giants (LW: 31) - So, Daniel Jones might actually be good? For the first time in a long time, the Giants have hope.
25 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 22) - Jameis Winston is now 22-35 as a starter with a career 87.7 passer rating. The Bucs need a new quarterback.

4. Chicago Bears
The Bears defense is not going to match what it did in 2018. The turnovers and defensive scores will regress back to the mean, but that doesn’t mean this won’t be a very special group in 2019. It’s loaded with talent at every level. The secondary isn’t what it was a year ago after losing slot corner Bryce Callahan and safety Adrian Amos, but the safety group remains solid and if new slot corner Buster Skrine ends up struggling, impressive rookie Duke Shelley is right behind him on the depth chart. And, oh yeah, Kahlil Mack is still here to wreck opposing offensive lines. Vic Fangio’s departure looms over the defense. The Bears are about to find out how important coaching is now that Chuck Pagano is calling the shots.
3. Minnesota Vikings
The 2019 Vikings defense will look a lot like the 2018 Vikings defense, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. After a rocky start, Mike Zimmer made the necessary adjustments and Minnesota ended up as one of the best defenses in the league once again. A full season of DE Everson Griffen and a healthier secondary should make Zimmer’s job a lot easier in 2019. This unit isn’t as deep as it once was but every level of the defense remains strong. A bounce-back year from CB Xavier Rhodes is sorely needed, though.

Lee, at the start of the season I thought the bears were going to be the toughest team in our division. Loosing at home like that had to be tough. Being a Viking fan I have went through plenty of those. I heard the crowd chant Chase, Chase, Chase toward the 3rd quarter. Maybe the coach should have listened. Is the offense just that bad? Injuries? or was it just one of those bad games every team has. good luck.

Week 3 of the 2019 NFL regular season schedule is in the books. :doah:
:reporter;BLG’S WEEK 4 NFL POWER RANKINGS
1 - New England Patriots (Last Week: 1) - Antonio Brown drama aside, it’s been smooth sailing for the Pats as they’ve rolled to 3-0. They’ll face their biggest challenge this week with a road game in Buffalo.
2 - Kansas City Chiefs (LW: 2) - Pat Mahomes and the Chiefs are just too good. Who’s gonna be able to beat them?
3 - Los Angeles Rams (LW: 3) - Jared Goff has thrown 11 touchdowns to 11 interceptions since Week 13 last season. The Rams are undefeated for now but they’re not going to be in great shape moving forward if he doesn’t play better.
4 - Green Bay Packers (LW: 4) - Green Bay’s defense has allowed just 35 points through three games this season. The Packers’ pass rush is graded No. 1 in the NFL by Pro Football Focus. Pairing Aaron Rodgers with a strong defense is certainly a winning combination.
5 - Baltimore Ravens (LW: 5) - The Ravens don’t have much to hang their heads about after losing a close one in KC. Baltimore’s still one of the toughest teams in the AFC.
6 - New Orleans Saints (LW: 10) - Great response by the Saints to win in Seattle after not looking so great when Drew Brees went down last week. Teddy Bridgewater could be able to keep the Saints’ season afloat until Brees returns.
7 - Dallas Cowboys (LW: 8) - The Cowboys have had an easy path to 3-0. Let’s see how they do with the schedule now getting a little tougher. Next up is a game in the Superdome.
8 - Seattle Seahawks (LW: 6) - The Seahawks have looked unusually vulnerable at home early on. They only beat Cincy by one point in Week 1 and now they’re coming off a loss to a backup quarterback. Something to watch.
9 - Indianapolis Colts (LW: 12) - 2-1 with an overtime road loss is a pretty great start for a team whose starting quarterback unexpectedly retired just a couple weeks before the regular season. Frank Reich’s team might very well be the best in the AFC South.
10 - Houston Texans (LW: 13) - Still reluctant to fully buy in to this team but they’re not terrible. Having Deshaun Watson helps negate some of their other issues.
11 - San Francisco 49ers (LW: 17) - Don’t look now but the 49ers are 3-0. Maybe they end up winning the NFC West?
12 - Chicago Bears (LW: 15) - Weekly entry: Mitchell Trubisky caps this team’s ceiling but the defense will often give them a chance to win.
13 - Minnesota Vikings (LW: 16) - Dalvin Cook is dangerous. The 2017 second-round pick has already logged 57 carries for 375 yards (6.6 average!) and four touchdowns. He also has nine receptions for 79 yards. Stinks the Eagles missed out on him.

14 - Buffalo Bills (LW: 18) - Circle the wagons, the Bills are 3-0 heading into a huge home game versus the Pats. This is Buffalo’s moment to prove they’re the best team in the AFC East. Can they pull it off? Most will believe it when they see it.
15 - Detroit Lions (LW: 19) - The Lions haven’t looked overly impressive en route to 2-0-1 but they’ve done enough to not lose. They have their work cut out for them in a very competitive NFC North.
16 - Los Angeles Chargers (LW: 9) - Injuries and the lack of a true home field advantage are doing the Bolts no favors as they drop to 1-2.
17 - Atlanta Falcons (LW: 11) - The Falcons aren’t that far off from being 0-3 right now. They haven’t looked great.
18 - Philadelphia Eagles (LW: 7) - Big drop for the Eagles, who continue to find ways to beat themselves. Carson Wentz had to deal with eight drops, three offensive pass interference penalties, and two drive-killing fumbles in a loss to Detroit. It’d be nice if his teammates could actually help him out, especially with Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, and Dallas Goedert all injured.
19 - Carolina Panthers (LW: 23) - Kyle Allen is undefeated as a starting quarterback in the NFL. Just a fluke or can he keep it up during Cam Newton’s absence? And does Newton get benched at some point?
20 - Jacksonville Jaguars (LW: 24) - Gardner Minshew mania is running wild down in Duval. The rookie quarterback is sporting a 110.6 passer rating through three games so far. Does Nick Foles even get his job back if Minshew continue to play well?
21 - Tennessee Titans (LW: 14) - It’s really only a matter of time until the Titans pull the plug on Marcus Mariota and insert Ryan Tannehill as their new starting quarterback. It’s probably worth a shot.
22 - Pittsburgh Steelers (LW: 20) - The Steelers are 0-3 and they’ll be counting on Mason Rudolph to dig them out that hole. Good luck with that, Pittsburgh.
23 - Cleveland Browns (LW: 21) - The Browns’ struggling offensive line is going to hold them back from living up to the hype.
24 - New York Giants (LW: 31) - So, Daniel Jones might actually be good? For the first time in a long time, the Giants have hope.
25 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers (LW: 22) - Jameis Winston is now 22-35 as a starter with a career 87.7 passer rating. The Bucs need a new quarterback.

27 - Denver Broncos (LW: 26) - The Broncos might be able to get their first win this season with Jacksonville coming to town.
28 - Cincinnati Bengals (LW: 28) - Cincy couldn’t hold on to a 14-point lead and now they’re 0-3.
29 - Arizona Cardinals (LW: 27) - Getting blown out at home by a backup quarterback? Not the best look. Kliff Kingsbury and Kyle Murray are still searching for their first NFL win.
30 - Washington Redskins (LW: 29) - Jay Gruden’s going to be the first head coach fired this season, right? Whether he stays or goes, it’s time for Washington to yank Case Keenum for Dwayne Haskins.

I liked him a lot. Wish more QB's were like that. Guts, talent, game smarts and yes he was a character for sure. That made me watch the game all the more. Just like Farve. Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy announced Monday that linebacker Roquan Smith was diagnosed with a torn pectoral muscle and will be moved to injured reserve, ending his season.
Smith will undergo surgery, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The 22-year-old suffered the injury during Thursday's win over the Dallas Cowboys. Nagy feared a season-ending diagnosis for the second-year defender and a recent MRI confirmed it.
The Bears selected Smith No. 8 overall in the 2018 draft to be the centerpiece of a strong defensive unit. The linebacker leads Chicago with 100 tackles this season. :pouty:
Smith's injury is yet another hit to Chuck Pagano's linebacking corps. Veteran Danny Trevathan missed the last four games with an elbow injury. :doah:

The Chicago Bears continue to make head-scratching moves during the NFL’s legal free-agent tampering period. One day after signing veteran tight end Jimmy Graham to a lucrative contract, the Bears have doubled down on another big-name player.
According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Chicago has signed former Pro Bowl edge rusher Robert Quinn to a five-year, $70 million contract with $30 million fully guaranteed.

Quinn, 28, had a career rebirth with the Dallas Cowboys last season. He recorded 22 quarterback hits and 11.5 sacks. It was the former first-round pick’s best statistical performance since he earned All-Pro honors with the then-St. Louis Rams back in 2013.
In a related move, Chicago has released former top-10 pick Leonard Floyd after four seasons with the team. He recorded 18.5 sacks during that span.
At the very least, Chicago now has an elite pass-rush tandem in that of Quinn and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Khalil Mack

according to what I just seen posted, draft grades and power rankings...……. in the central division
the packers where the highest power ranking at 5 with a draft grade of D- not sure how that ranking came about. there going to implode this year.
#2 was the VIKINGS @ #12 and draft grade with an A
#3 was da Bears @ #17 and a draft grade of a B.
and Detroit was last.

Nick Foles will be the Chicago Bears starting quarterback in Week 4 and beyond after leading a stunning fourth-quarter comeback for a 30-26 victory over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
Bears coach Matt Nagy made the announcement Monday afternoon, three weeks and one day after he named Mitch Trubisky the starter for the season opener against the Lions.
Trubisky led the Bears to two victories, but his uneven play over the first three weeks of the season and his mistakes as the Bears fell into a 26-10 hole Sunday sealed his demotion. :embarrassed:
Nagy said they talked as coaches Sunday and watched the film on Monday to make the decision.
“For us, it’s never easy when you go into these types of situations,” Nagy said. “I want to credit both of those guys in yesterday’s situation for being really supportive of each other this whole time, even as hard as that was for Mitch to be told Nick is going to go in and play, Mitch to his credit was just an awesome supporter of Nick during that game.” :happy1:

Lee's Bears pulled it off. Sounds like Brady thought it was 3rd down and it was 4th down and he threw an incompletion and then the Bears got the ball and let time run out. Matt Nagy and Nick Foles have known each other for years, but as play caller and signal caller, it’s like they met 2 1/4 u00bd weeks ago. :doah:

Nagy was an offensive assistant on Andy Reid’s Philadelphia Eagles staff in 2012, when Foles was a rookie backup, and they reunited with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2016.
But it’s clear now, with Nagy as the Chicago Bears coach and Foles as the starting quarterback, that after two quarters of relief and two starts, they’re still developing a feel for each other. :confused:
The Bears are 1-1 in Foles’s two starts while scoring a total of 31 points, scratching out a 20-19 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week. The Bears rank 27th in total yards per game (323.2) and 30th in third-down efficiency (33%).
“The thing is,” Foles said Wednesday, “with being with a newer staff and new players, and it’s Matt’s first time where he’s calling plays for me, there’s a crash course in everyone being on the same page to where we go out there and execute.
“That’s a daily thing. It’s not like we’ve been together for 10 years and are playing in the same offense. … It hasn’t even been a year.” :confused:
Ever since Nagy benched Mitch Trubisky and inserted Foles to lead the second-half comeback win against the Falcons in Week 3, the coach and quarterback have been working on a hectic schedule. :doofus:
“It’s interesting because you have the second half that (Foles) went in and everything just kind of hits you real fast, you’re down, you’re behind, you’re kind of a one-dimensional team and things happen quick,” Nagy said. "And then the next week ... is your first week kind of prepping together to a different style (of) quarterback and a guy that has different likes and dislikes (than Trubisky).
"And so you’re adjusting to that and you’re playing against a pretty good team as well with the Colts (who beat the Bears 19-11). And then you go right into a short week” against the Buccaneers.
Things looked liked they were going south against the Bucs when the Bears fell behind 13-0 in the second quarter, but Foles led a fourth-quarter drive that resulted in the go-ahead field goal with 1 minute, 13 seconds left. :happy1:
Earlier in the fourth, Nagy and Foles had a sideline exchange about staying in a no-huddle offense to keep the Bucs defense on its heels. Foles characterized that conversation Wednesday as animated, but both agreed there was no discord about how to run the offense. :tut:
“It’s funny because on the sideline, when he was talking to me about picking the pace up and doing different things, some people can take that we were arguing,” Nagy said. “And he was laughing about it because that’s not who we are. That’s how you talk through things and you figure out what you like and don’t like.”
Foles said it “wasn’t really as big of a deal as people think it was.” :confused:
“It was more just Nags and I talking,” he said. “I’ve known Nags for a while. It was just me explaining sort of my thought process in a situation in a way to attack the defense.
“There was nothing heated at all. It was just him and I in the game trying to get better, pushing forward. We were just having a good conversation. I saw something out there and I just really wanted to take advantage of it.”
Nagy admitted he’s learning how opinionated his veteran quarterback can be: “You like that about him.”
What he hasn’t liked is the offense’s lack of execution of the “details,” especially on third down, :tut: and Nagy made pointed comments Friday.
Foles agreed, and he, his coaches and his teammates have emphasized communication and execution in meetings and practices this week. It’s a process, he said.
“It doesn’t just happen overnight,” he said. "It’s never happened overnight ever in my career.
“It’s really just continue to push forward and continue to self-scout, continue to go out there working on things, throwing routes, talking about different situations, talking about where I want them to be, what they see, stuff like that, coverage recognition by me and the receivers and the tight ends and running backs.”
If the players can clean up the details, Foles believes it will build currency with Nagy and help the two get on the same page.
“If there’s things that I see, just letting me roll and letting me do my thing as a play caller out there, let me call a play,” Foles said. “And that’s something where that trust just builds. … That’s something in my past with certain play callers where having that freedom has been huge.
“And Coach Nagy’s been open to everything. His knowledge of the game, what he understands, what he wants is on the same page as me.” :bow:

The Bears activated wide receiver and kick return specialist Dwayne Harris from the practice squad to the active roster. Harris, who was signed to the practice squad just this week, will likely handle punt returns for the Bears against the Saints.

The signing of Harris certainly doesn’t come as a surprise following last Monday night’s game, where Ginn fielded zero punts on five opportunities. Ginn hasn’t looked comfortable fielding punts since taking over for an injured Tarik Cohen, and the Bears finally decided to make a move with Harris.
In nine seasons, Harris has played for the Dallas Cowboys (2011-14), New York Giants (2015-17) and Las Vegas Raiders (2018-19), garnered nine starts in 106 NFL games.
Harris has served primarily as a return specialist, where he’s averaged 10.1 yards on 180 punts, including four touchdowns, as well as 25.8 yards on 163 kickoff returns with one touchdown.

Things could be a lot worse for the Chicago Bears, even if it doesn’t feel that way. They’re 5-3, have one of the NFL’s best all-around defenses and are only one game behind the Green Bay Packers in the NFC North.
Still, it doesn’t feel like this team is capable of competing with this year’s likely playoff field. The offense just isn’t good enough, and it starts at quarterback where veteran Nick Foles has failed in his attempt to provide stability and an uptick in production.
Sunday’s overtime loss to the Saints was, essentially, the worst-case scenario for the Bears’ quarterback dilemma. It became abundantly clear early in the game that Foles’ statuesque pocket presence was a liability, and his failures as a passer throughout the game left fans wondering if Mitchell Trubisky would get another shot behind center.
Trubisky’s ability as a runner certainly would’ve helped the Bears’ painfully bad offensive line and would’ve at least kept New Orleans’ pass rush honest because of the threat he presents with his legs.
But the change never came, and while Foles did heat up late in the game and managed to keep the Bears alive for an extra period of play, the bad part of his career resume — five teams in nine years — was easy to understand.
Before we go rewriting history, it would be unfair to ignore the fact that Trubisky had more than a fair opportunity to prove to the Bears and their fan base that he was “the guy.” He had 44 starts. And he was more bad than good during that stretch. But at a critical point in the 2020 season, it’s now or never; if Trubisky will ever be the guy, it’s now.
And Bears fans are eager to see if he can do it.
I ran a poll on Twitter Sunday night that asked Bears fans who they want as the team’s starting quarterback moving forward. More than 500 faithful responded, and the results were overwhelmingly in Trubisky’s favor:

I dunno Lee, the game I watched had the Chicago defense unable to stop a quarterback that doesn't have enough zip left in this arm to break a pane of glass. You can replace Foles if you like but he isn't your problem.
As far as the kid goes, he was sticking up for a teammate much like you stick up for each other in the hood. Uncalled for. The NFL should fine him, suspend him for 6 games,Bears should release him by 2 o'clock this afternoon.
It's completely uncalled for. Had he been a Patriot people would be calling for their heads. Instead he's a 7th string wide reciever for the Bears and it's not a big deal.

The Chicago Bears started the 2020 season off hot, rolling to a 5-1 record and looking like a Super Bowl LV contender. With the team now heading into Week 14 with a 5-7 record, change is coming to Chicago.

During the team’s six-game losing streak, changes at quarterback and to the offensive play-calling haven’t slowed down the skid. For head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace, who came into 2020 on the hot seat, the clock might be running out.
According to Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline, indications are the Chicago Bears will clean house when the NFL’s regular season concludes.
Sitting at 5-7, it’s unlikely Chicago can turn things around in time to compete for the NFL playoffs. As a result, if the Bears allow Nagy and Pace to remain employed for the remainder of the season, both the head coach and general manager could be axed on the NFL’s Black Monday.
Of course, there’s no guarantee either man makes it to the end of the regular season. The Houston Texans kicked off this season’s firing cycle by terminating head coach/general manager Bill O’Brien.
The Texans aren’t the only team to clean house during the season. In October, the Atlanta Falcons fired head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Thomas Dimitroff. After Thanksgiving Day, the Detroit Lions axed head coach Matt Patricia and general manager Bob Quinn.
Chicago could take the same approach, firing both of its top football minds before the season ends. Another option would be to follow the Jacksonville Jaguars path, firing the general manager and keeping the head coach until the regular season concludes.
The Bears hired Nagy, who served as the Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator (2016-17), in 2018 with the hope he would turn this club into a perennial contender.
After posting a 12-4 record in his first season, winning Coach of the Year honors, Nagy’s squad has gone 13-15 since.
Of course, one decision will define both Nagy and Pace’s tenure in Chicago.

I was thinking the Christian Ponder reach was right up there, but not as bad as Trubisky (because Patrick Mahomes was on the board for the taking).

If you review the 2017 draft there were some big NFL names taken. Mahomes was 10th, Deshon Jackson went after Mahomes, TJ Watt came out of that draft. Some pretty big names. No matter how you slice it the Bears whiffed on that pick. But, it wasn't so much the pick as to what they gave up to move up there to get him.
Oh well, thats football.

All in all, I'm not dissatisfied with the result. The Saints killed the Vikings in Week 16, handing Zimm his worst beat down ever. Some suffering Vikings fans might have wanted a chance at redemption. I saw nothing when the Vikes played the Lions to make me think things would be improved for them in the playoffs. :surrender:
In fact, I'm a little pi$$ed off that the bogus roughing the passer call might have cost the Vikes a couple of spots in the draft order. If I was Zimm, I would have challenged the call on the field. :rotflmao:

- Not this again - It was Oct. 27 last year when we pondered possible offensive changes...
- Change the scheme - It’s exhausting that we’re already having the same conversations that we were having with Mitch Trubisky, but Fields is only three games into his career.
- Change the play caller - Again, it’s the same conversation as last year. Just do it now and get it over with.
- Play better - I don’t see wide open receivers. I see a lot of missed blocks. The players have to make plays to help Fields out.
- Justin is not off the hook - The coaching staff still deserves most of the blame for that awful game plan, but Fields did more wrong than I initially thought.
- A positive development: Robert Quinn - Robert Quinn was able to stack two good games together for the first time since he signed with the Bears in 2020. Now we’ll see if he can keep it up all season.
- Tonga time - There’s no question the Bears miss Eddie Goldman, but Tonga looks like he can give the Bears something they lacked last year when they didn't have Goldman
- Jackson’s tackling problems - The elephant in the defensive room continues to be safety Eddie Jackson’s tackling woes. He missed another one Sunday that led to a touchdown
- Opponent look-ahead - Given what we saw from the Bears’ offense in Cleveland, this is not a gimme, but they’ll be facing a Lions defense that is nowhere near the same class as the Browns.
- Final word - At least the Bears have Cairo Santos.

The Wilfs will be proud to know that Rasslin WWE style will get more of my attention then the Vikings game on Monday. I'm not a fan of the Monday night broadcast crew plus the game has become over saturated for me. NFL Sunday, Monday, Thursday, 2 games Saturday is more than I care to pay attention to.

After Urban Meyer threw his staff and players under the bus for not being winners - like HIM - I doubt any NFL owners/GMs will be stupid enough to hire Meyer.
I see that Vi-Queens Offensive Coordinator alum and offensive scape goat, Darrell Bevell, is the new Jacksonville interim coach.
Bevell was the OC under Brad "Chili" Childress in 2009, when Brett Favre and the Vi-Queens had that magic season. Chili was fired the next season, Leslie Frazier took over, and opted not to keep Bevell on his staff. The Seahawks hired Bevell, drafted Russell Wilson, and the rest is history.
Frazier hired Bill Musgrave as the OC and they, along with Adrian Peterson, led the team to three seasons of mediocracy as the leading rushing team in the NFL with one play-off appearance loss to da Packa's.
And now you's know 'da rest of 'da story. ;)

I think Bevell definitely deserves a chance at head coach somewhere. He may end up being the permanent coach at Jacksonville.

I tried to recap some of the background regarding the Nagy firing. They also fired the GM. I blame the GM more than the coach.
Nagy had early success, but then they got down on him for bad play calling. It ain't Nagy's fault the GM drafted Mitch F'ing Trubisky second overall in 2017 ahead of Patrick Mahomes and Deshaun Watson. :doah:
And then they followed Trubisky up with Nick I-Caught-Lightning-In-A-Bottle-One-Season Foles and Andy Parenial-Journeyman Dalton and expected to win? :rotflmao:
They players like to play for Nagy. I don't think it was his fault at all.
But in today's NFL, if you want to get rid of the GM, you might as well can the coach, cause the next GM with want his "own guy."

Nagy is young, he will go to a major college or NFL team as a OC to repair his image. He will return to the NFL one day as a head coach.

You're thinking of Percy Harvin. Actually, I think Spielman maximized that one. Spielman should be sending the Christmas card to Harvin.
The Vikings got 4 good years out of Harvin - two of them really good. Harvin was a triple threat to catch, run and return, but he was a head case.
Somehow, despite all the publicity around Harvin's migraine and dope smoking issues and apparent displeasure in remaining a Viking, Spielman rocked by the news that the Minnesota Vikings had traded receiver/kick returner Percy Harvin to the Seattle Seahawks. In return, the Vikings received the Seahawks' first and seventh-round picks in 2013 and a third-round selection in 2014. With the pick they received from the Seahawks, which turned out to be #25 overall, the Vikings selected Florida State cornerback Xavier Rhodes. :happy1: The other players they got were Arthur Brown :scratch: (LB 2013) and Jerick McKinnon :happy1: (RB 2014).
Seattle signed Harvin to a 6-year, $67M contract with $2.5M guaranteed. Later in the offseason, Harvin was found to have a slight labrum tear in his hip, he had surgery, and went on the PUP list. His first game for the Seahawks came in week 14 when they played the Vikings. Harvin had 1 catch for 17 yards and a kick return for 58 yards. Re-injuring the hip, he was out again. :doah: He didn't play again again until the playoffs, and he returned the 2nd half kick-off for a touchdown in the Superbowl. Harvin allegedly had locker room altercations with teammates during his tenure with Seattle; also reported was that there were games where he sat himself down, refusing to go back on the field. :undecided:
The Seachickens traded Harvin to NY Jets in 2014. He was released by the Jets after one season and signed by the Bills and played for 2 years while continuing to miss games because of migraines. :bonk:
P.S. If you took Harvin's total production for the Seahawks (242 yards), it works out to be about $60,000 per yard :doah: - BUT the Seahawks did win the Superbowl that year!!! :happy1:
