I'm not sure if this will both you or not.....
But, the way these forums work, is that, they count all your posts in your profile.....you can see it on "so-an-so" has 10,000 posts....
The problem is, that if I reduce the data base size by deleting posts over so many days (or even years) the counts in the profiles change.... (same with pictures)
Here is where it gets sticky......the site runs faster with less data stored, but the counts get skewed if they are deleted. Some of these posts haven't been viewed for years, but they are stored and hidden in "child archives" to keep the profile numbers accurate.....
A lot of the "archived" data is viewed by "guests" (those that don't want to become members, just looking for information) and find us by searching "buzz words" on Google and drives traffic....
I want to make this as comfortable as possible to our members, above all else......... because you folks come first....
So, the long winded question is.... How important are those counts to you?

I could care less how many times I have posted. Could there be a number so when you achieve that you are at the maximum so to speak? Then you don't need to store any more than that?

counts dont make nuthin to me except.for the amou t of smites glenn gets. so go abead and deleat all counts except for glenn and so we can co ti ue to smife glenn but he cant smite us. i do like info like Member since such and such a date. its lime a badge of honor.

Yep still works!! :rotflmao: the smites! I like the post count. Been trying to catch HD and Lee! :rotflmao: JK but seriously I like the count. Shows how active someone is.

Counts don't matter to me either. Do what ever works the best HD.

Doesn't matter a bit to me. Old files should be cleaned out. I do mine weekly. Dump a smurf, and save 10 GB's of disc space.... :bonk:

After a certain number of posts, give them a symbol instead of counts like in grade school for good work. Like a squirrel, robin, dinosaur, etc. Glenn would have either a loony bird or a blue-footed booby. :shocked: :rotflmao:

I'm more concerned about the last ten years of posts that are stored on the server.

Whatever works for you as Mike said is good for me too. Would it help if everything 5 years old was dumped so every day something 5 years old is dumped? That way we can talk about it all over again too... lol As I get older I find I like telling the stories again...

I just spent an hour, off and on, attempting to get on the site...and 3 tries to post...%$#@! Keep getting "Site is taking too long to respond" mesg..... This is maddening. I wanna get on!!

OK Rebbs... I need some direction...we need to move this site to a more reliable hosting site....got any recommendations? go daddy is around 40 per month, other sites want 50 a month.....without money coming in....I don't have much choice.....

I have to admit, while this site was down I checked out a few others. Hands down this place is hopping compared to others. Let's keep her rolling....reb, you would make an excellent partner to Hd and others in control. :happy1:

So, here is the update, and what has been happening.
You all know the server crashed, it was down for a week.
The hosting company got us on a different server that didn't work very well.
Then, I received notice that the hosting company we had, was getting out of the server business.
So, we switched to a different hosting company and transferred to their server.
In the transfer, I couldn't get on the site myself, but some of you could.
Last night, it cleared up... and we're back in business.
Hopefully, this works out for the best.
Our tech guy will remain the same, he has been a great friend helping this along.
