Any suggestions on a heavy duty water container to carry dog water in the hunting vehicle. I have been using old Minute Maid 1 gallon jugs, they fit nicely on the right side of the Tahoe between the kennel and the area behind the wheel well. The newer Minute Maid jugs seem to be a lot softer or thinner than the old ones I have, but I like their slim style to fit between the kennel and side panel. I was thinking on getting a blue container, like a plastic kerosene can and mark it with a big stencil saying "dog water", or is the material of those jugs a concern? I would really like to find something in the 1 gallon size so that I can store then where I have put the orange juice jugs in the past, I usually carry 2.
Any suggestions.

I use one just like pictured above(1 gallon) except mine is 2 gallons.
I buy these 2.5 gallon jugs of water at Cub Food for $2 or $3 each

Then I don't have to clean anything or store anything when I get home.

I usually bring one of those same 4-5 gal blue water jugs on a weekend hunting trip, but the coolest thing is my aluminum dog watering box... I think I got it from Lion Country Supply or Dunn's a few years back. Ive seen cheaper, plastic versions around, but this one is bullet-proof... the idea with it is when ole' Duke has had his fill, you just put the water-box on its end, all the water he didnt drink goes back in the main part of the box, so yer not tossing/wasteing water... its the gravity fed so only a few cups come out at a time...And the way its designed, it CANT spill! Real simple deal, but its the real deal... everyone that sees it says the same thing..."Wow, thats a great idea...where'd ja git that thing?" If ya hunt with dogs, or even just travel with em, its a must have thing... :happy1:

I have been using this for the last 5 -6 years, it holds 8 quarts water and 5 cups of food, stores easy in the truck too.
Bought it at Gander Mountain for about twenty bucks.

Not the Kennel Spring, but similiar. I will keep trying to find a source for teh Kennel Spring. I know Dogs afield did sell it. This one looks really nice.

Dogs Unlimited has a similar deal, called "the drinking spot" (I think thats what they called it) for $29, same great idea, holds a gallon or two, nothin to cover etc, just tip & go. I havent seen the one Ive got, but I'll look... hey, Im here for you guys... ;)

Thanks, the google worked. But to be honest, not really what I was looking for to transport water in my Tahoe. The design just seems too easy to tip and spill unless it is bunged down or something that will keep it from moving.'
So I guess I am still looking for a container that is somehow sealed in some way when traveling and that I can pour into a dish or pan for my lab.

I also use the "MuzzleLoader" and have never ran out of water with it on short trips.
I do have to carry extra food though, a ziploc bag with a few cups placed in the water dish side while transporting works if you only need a few cups.
Or I use a large 1 gallon heavey duty ziploc bag if we are going for a week or more.
If you have a topper,i have seen a 4 inch diameter white PVC pipe sealed at both ends and a spigout placed on the bottom and a filler cap on the top.
The pipe was then bolted with straps along the side of the truck box at a slight angle down to the back.

When ya tip it back, the water goes back into the main resivour, impossible to spill a drop, at least mine doesnt.

kolpin makes a water pack 4 gal or 1.5 thats flat!! fill it with cold water put it in the crate under a bed the dogs stay cool, fill it with hot.. keep em warm? look in any atv catalog. or use a empty laundry det bottle the kind with the big cap and you have a bowl thats easy to drink from and theyre pretty tuff

An old laundry detergent jug is what I use to keep my water in. I have two of them. They are the ones with a push button spout right on the jug. They hold about 5 quarts each. When they are finished just dump the rest back in the breather cap. Dog food is carried in plastic coffee cans with the screw on lids, when they finish dump it back in.

A 1 gallon plastic ice cream bucket with lid works fine. It's free, after you eat the ice cream.

I just got back from SoDak last week and saw my cousin using plain old cooler to carry water in. Lift the lid for them to drink, close it when they're done. Bulkier than a jug, but there's no pouring and it helps keep the water cool, or warm as the situation requires. Last week was mid 60's to 70 degrees where we were. We came back home with the storm chasing behind us.

These things rock, hunted in SD with two guys who had them for their dogs. I'll be buying one.

:dancinred: Thanks TP, this one holds 5 gallons and the ones I saw were smaller and held 1-2 gal. I'm guessing.
