Dude it's meant for kids!!
-
I believe its meant for everyone.

i personally would never keep anything from spring lake it needs all the help it can get i would fish it however but i think it more for kids like this winter i saw two young kids ice fishing and when they got cold they would run to the truck and warm up and head back out it was funny but they were just happy catching the lil fish

I have no way to prove it so say what you want but the resoning behind stocking the ponds in Mankato was for places for kids to catch fish in town. Not really intended for hardcore fisherman to go out and catch bucket after bucket of fish, they just can't handle the pressure. I know some of them have sign's to that affect.
It's no secret it has been posted on many website's before and un fortunatly people take advantage of something that was intended for kids!!

Last year I went down to the pond many times. Sometimes to fish, sometimes just to walk around the Lake. Noticed many a gentleman fishing along the shoreline, some with their kids and some without kids. No one is their with thoughts of catching buckets of fish! Its just some place to go when you have a couple minutes to throw the line in when you can't get onto the bigger Lakes like Madison or Washington etc. Saw a guy their last fall using his goose call. Getting ready for the season I would guess. Many people, families use the area for picnic's, playground fun, running, walking the paths or just enjoying the scenery. So, the park area is used by many young and old and will never be fished out. They do need to continue to dredge it though periodically.

I personaly have never kept fish from the pond. I took my younger sister down there a few years ago and she had a blast!

No, never paid much attention to the vehicles in the parking lot. Just enjoyed listening to the geese honk away. Last summer their was a Loon in the pond. But what was really strange was this loon was along the shore line and I could stand right down next to the shore and he/she wouldnt swim away. Most Loons Ive seen up north are very skiddish. Don't know if it was sick or what. Took a few pics of it.
-
yea that loon was down there for quite a while but as i recall it was found dead (which is to bad) last year on numorous occasions i saw swans down there i wasn't the biggest fan of them dredging the pond because it has scared away a lot of ducks but it seems there was a trade off for different birds so its ok plus it made the fishing a lil bit better

I always noticed Loons to be anything but skittish we used to be able to paddle right next to them in the BWCA. Wife has some pics of one we drove right up to with the Opti-MAx on Gull! I think there is a nesting pair on Francis.

To bad for the Loon. I figured something must have been wrong with it. One of my favorite Birds right now are the Red wing Black birds and there are tons of them down at the pond right now. Really like their whistle. They seem to hang out in the cattails alot. Must be their nesting site.
