I have a 11 week old Black lab "MAX", last night and then again this morning was the first time I sat with him and had him retrieve. I Started out just throwing it 5 yards or so and he had no problem with it so I started testing him with farther throws up to 50 yards, and like an old trusty dog he would sit by my side and not leave until I gave him the command to "fetch it up". I have had other labs in the past, but is this normal for a 11 week old pup, I know my older labs were not retrieving anything like this at 11 weeks. Just looking for some insight, or tips
Thanks Phil

Sounds like you got a very smart pup! I have had a couple of black labs
and all they want to do is play. You throw the toy and they get it, But
dont want to give it back!

mine is the same way... i think he is very smart. The one thing, when he brings it back... I don't immediately reach for the toy (rubber porcupine ball) I shower him with praise, tell him good boy and scratch his back and he comes a running every time, right to me and drops the ball wanting the praise. He doesn't want to sit and chew it or anything. Now eventually I will teach him to not drop until commanded... in case of wounded bird... but I think that is normal for a pup. mine is about 13 weeks old now.
