tonight was the itasca ducks unlimited banquet in grand rapids MN.
this was the first one I have been able to make it to. the work schedule has always gotten in the way. this time it worked out for me, so I called Goose to see what time he was getting off work. as it turned out, he was able to attend as well.
so...me, J.J. and Goose went and had a blast!
the event was held at the Sawmill Inn on the south side of grand rapids.
there were so many prizes to be given away, I would have felt nothing short of cursed to come away empty handed.
I was beginning to wonder. after about thirty or so names finaly J.J. won a tackle box. then Goose started in with a couple boxes of shells and a camo cooler. then a duck call. me? still nothing.
prizes would come and go. hats, prints and guns. lots of guns. shot guns, rifles, black powder. we were sure to win one at least I thought. but no. It was not to be.
Instead, they started to draw from the prizes that were raffled upstairs. one prize happened to be an Ice fishing package, which included a 6x8 portable and a vexilar fl 18 pro pak II.
"is Dave Doree here" was the call.
Hey!! thats me!!
so yes, tonight I have gotten a big jump on this years Ice fishing gear acquisition.
now I have a vex for each hole and I dont need to worry about replacing that old green 6x8 that is showing it's age.
so many kids won prizes, i think maybe they did better than the big people. really.
very cool to see those kids excited like that.
they are the future of all our outdoor sports.
keep them involved. next year i think maybe the younger kids will have to go :)

Just so happens we were cleaning the 13 Honkers Vickie, Charlie and I shot.
Would have like to attended but the nasty old thing called killing birds got in the way...LOL
Won't be long and that ice fishing gear will be put to use.
