Title: Ely Ice Report
Post by: greatoutdoors on April 04/08/11, 08:46:14 PM
The ice on some rivers and creeks in the Ely area is beginning to diminish, but the lakes are still iced from shoreline to shoreline.
Warm weather will change this on a daily basis, and would expect all lakes to be open by May 1st or earlier.
Sounds like there are rumors of the fishing opener being delayed going around the Metro area, but they are not true. :happy1:
Certain areas are posted as walleye spawning beds at times, and no fishing is allowed for a week or two.  This is determined by water temps and cannot be predicted with any accuracy this early.
Every year, there are questions about the Bass season so let's settle that now: it always opens in Northeastern Minnesota on the regular opening day, and NOT TWO WEEKS LATER.  :banghead:
