Title: Ely area fishing
Post by: greatoutdoors on May 05/29/11, 11:08:37 AM
In the beginning of the week, fishing was very slow with temps dipping into the 20's at night, and northeast winds blowing all day.
The last several days has seen a great improvment, with good numbers of walleyes, pike, and bass being taken along shorelines of various lakes in less than 12 FOW.
Many are using slip bobbers, with minnows and leeches being equal in effectiveness.
Snowbank has been producing walleyes in the evening on the shorelines, and lakers are still being caught in less than 20 feet.
White Iron and Farm Lakes are also coughing up walleyes (morning and evening) and crappies in 12 FOW.  Pike are also being caught in large numbers, but smaller size.
Shagawa Lake walleye fishing has also been good, with many being taken in less than 9 FOW,  leeches being the best bait trolled with a plain hook and Linde Rig.
