Title: Ely area lakes warming up, fishing getting better!!
Post by: greatoutdoors on June 06/14/11, 08:25:12 PM
The water temps have really improved in the Ely area lakes the last 4 to 5 days. :happy1:
Surface temps vary from low to mid 60's, to the upper 60's/low 70's on others.
This has put the male Bass on the beds and the females should begin to move in shortly.
Snowbank Lake is producing good numbers of walleyes near the shorelines, with leeches being the best bait.
Other lakes that are heating up are Shagawa, Ensign, Isabella, White Iron and Farm.  Crappies were being taken last week, but not spawning yet on Birch Lake near Babbitt.
Sunnies are starting to come into the shallow bays.  Small northern pike (24-30 inch) are also active in about 10 FOW on most lakes.  Minnows have been the best for taking the pike.
The next week forecast looks good, and fishing will even get better.
