Title: June 16th - 18th Oahe Fishing Report
Post by: Hutch on June 06/18/11, 08:52:20 PM
Fishing is very good all up and down Lake Oahe for numbers of fish. Everyone is catching walleye and bass. Not many reports about Salmon fishing. I think July/August will again be the main bite for the bigger walleye but right now if size isn't as important to you, you will be able to catch a lot of walleye. The bite is mostly in 15 ft. of water or less and just about everything works. Trolling plugs/bottom bouncer/lindy rigs/ jigs all fine. Minnow's or pitching gulp still best for the smallmouth bass and bigger walleye. Main bite is still in Cheyenne river from Minneconjou area to mouth and also at Whitlock bay. There is less boat traffic on main lake from Cheyenne to dam and bigger walleye but not as many numbers of fish being caught. There is a great bite at Bush's Landing also with Willow and Bull creek going strong. Fished a group of fellows from Montana with Dave Spaid and everyone caught limits of walleye along with northern pike, smallmouth bass, and other species. Most of the over 20 inch fish were caught shallow. Water is now closed around the face of the Dam for safety reasons due to discharge. All roads around Pierre open but check your routes up here as interstate 29 around Omaha is closed along with some other hwys. As usual June is a very busy month so expect to see a lot of boat traffic and busy boat ramps.
