Title: the Jiggle Auger
Post by: jigglestick on March 03/19/06, 10:05:00 AM
some of you may or may not have heard of the jiggle auger.
to make a long story short, whilst traveling across the lake at a high rate of speed, to get to a hot spot in time for the evening bite, i hit a newly formed pressure ridge and got major air. i levitated everything in the back of my truck, including the auger. everything landed back in its proper place, well pretty much, except the auger which did a handle spin in the top of the box side. a complete 360 and then landed on the icebouncing and skidding to a stop. when i got turned around what i found was what we called the jiggle auger.
it still ran, but had one hell of a wobble to it.
i finally wore the teeth off one of the gears in the gear box and had to hang it up.
she was parted out and the jiggle auger was no more.
i really missed that auger.
i shouldn't get so attached to inatimate objects, but i didn't realize how much i loved that auger until it was to late.
now a remarkable set of circumstances have taken place.
a nice fellow, placed an add on a website classifieds. when he posted the pictures my eye's lit right up. was it? could it be?
my old Eskimo re-born? brought back from the salvage yard sort of like the terminator re-generated itself after untimely mishaps?
nah, but it was one identical to my old auger none the less, i had to have it. i negotiated the price to an affordable amount, and the guy was willing to wait until he was coming through town on his way to the lake to seal the deal, which he did a week and a half ago.
when i saw it for the first time, in person, i have to admit, it brought a tear to my eye. i got all choked up and i couldn't say a word. i just hugged it. i carefully placed it in the back of my new truck, which by the way is another story. the truck i mean.
a chance to start over again. i promise new auger...i promise to take better care of you. i will use you with care. i will take you fishing with me every where i go. pals forever!
so keeping my promise, i took the new auger to red lake yesterday. driving the van up to bring Dr. Bob to get his truck and camper.
we would go fish the evening bite and i would head back home afterward. Bob would spend the night and leave in the morning.
i hastily unpacked the van of my gear, while Bob hastily unloaded unnecessary gear into the camper. then Bob hastily pulled forward to load my gear......................
i turned just in time to see his 3/4 ton truck climb on top of the new auger? :o :o :o
i couldn't believe my eyes!(http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6dd38b3127cce979926bd295400000016108AbuHLVy3Zt_)
i want to apologize for being just teensy bits PISSED.
i was stunned. i feel bad for Bob. he just simply didn't see it. i told him i wasn't pissed off at him, i was just pissed.
i was more upset about that auger getting flattened out, than when someone ran into my parked truck last weekend at the very same place!

a day later now, i am looking at the auger. the shock has wore off. maybe it's the anti depressants i don't know.
i think i can fix it. it appears as though the handles which took the brunt of the damage, acted as a roll bar for the power head.
i think i can dismantle it and either get new bars, or straighten them out. keeping my fingers crossed that nothing else is cracked or bent or otherwise irreparable.

what have we learned from this situation?
take the time to tell your fishing gear how much it means to you, every day.
don't be to much of a tough guy to not use the "L" word too.
remember, it could be gone tomorrow

hey Toivo, were all good :)

Jiggle you have to understand it's the triangle!! It posesses vehicles!  Look what my truck did to Griz' generator about a month ago!  Sad thing is I KNEW it was there!
It was the Triangle, I SWEAR!  ;D

I know you like your auger Dave, but "intimate" :o :o :o.

Sorry bro.? Damn triangle!

You forgot to add that about 20 minutes later the triangle body slammed me on Hillmans road and I ended up catching the running board on the truck with my ring finger on my left hand.? I bent it back quite a way further than it was designed to go.? Needless to say it is a tad painful today.

At least we got a few slabs? :).

I say to hell with all the fixing, leave it the way it is, then we can change the IBOT logo to bent handles and a bent shaft too. I think I got enough laugh out of this just knowing the story was coming. ATTA BOY BOB! :o
