July weather has arrived with great summer weather and a great summer bite. Walleye fishing along with Northern pike and smallmouth bass is excellent all over Oahe. Almost all fishermen with knowledge of the lake and good equipment taking limits daily. I fished the Rindelaub group from Mn. to possession limits of walleye and some bass and then fished a real nice group of guys from Wyoming to possession limits of walleye, maybe 15 small northern and limits of smallmouth bass. All the fish these groups took home would have around an 18inch avg. along with all over's. Butch with the Wy. Group caught the biggest walleye a 8 lb. 28 incher and took pictures and then released it. If you aren't going to mount a fish it is the right thing to do. Caught probably 50 to 75 walleye a day so they had plenty of fish to pick from to take home. I am still catching numbers of fish in shallow water (10 ft or less) but there are a lot of fish coming from 17 to 20 ft. as lake warms. Nightcrawler/ bouncer rigs with or with out spinners, leeches, minnows and trolling plugs are all working. Once again watch depth finders as many points are just barely under water and extend a long ways out into the lake. Bite is now good from the Dam all the way up lake. Salmon fishing still spotty but have heard of a few good catches around 50 down mostly with Herring strips. Salmon that are being caught are very healthy.
