Went to ND for ducks and pheasents and the older lab whitch is 6 wasn't feeling very well. Got back home and the vet took x-rays whitch were $183.00 and said she thinks there is a tumor on the liver. Cancer I guess. She said to make sure I should bring him to the cities for a ultra sound. They have better ones there. The charge is $530.00. She also said he has a enlarged heart and the lungs of a 10 or 12 year old. What is a guy to do? He's just like one of the family.

First, sorry to hear it! They are one of the family.
I know if it were me, I'd get the second opinion. Find out for sure and see what the options are. If for whatever reason it can't be dealt with, enjoy the time you have with him until his pain can't be controlled.

well that sucks. my brothers first dog was a poodle pointer, they told him she was sick with cancer.. he ended up with 3 more seasons with her and he never did any of the other "tests" with her. that dog ranks in the top 3 of dogs I've hunted with. good luck

:sorry: They are one of the family. Enjoy the time you have left. Take pictures and know that prolonging their life is not always better for them. I would take quality of life over quantity any day.

This is bad news for sure. It sucks to have to be in that position for sure. However only you can decide what is best for you. Only you can make that choice. If it were me I would wait to see what happens. I know it sounds bad but for a dog he or she may have many more good years living with cancer and in the end if you shell out thousands of $$$ just to get the same result the only winner is the vet. Either way you have a tough choice to make here. Good luck with whatever you decide. Truth be told only you can make this choice.

Well he has been on Prednizone since October 27 and was doing good. He was supposed to get a ultrasound tomorow and he stopped eating yesterday and is breathing hard. Didn't think he would make it threw the night. Now we might have to put him down today. Still wont eat and cant move around very well. Vet said it sounds like he is in the final stages.

I feel your pain. Just buried my mother after a 4 month cancer battle and I think will be just as tuff to let my 10 year old pooch go. R.I.P.

Sorry for your loss, I am sure everyone here who has lost a pal feels for you and shares in your pain. One of those kind of things that guys tell guys and nothing really needs to be said because we know what you are feeling and can't describe the feeling to someone who has not gone through it. Time spent with a pet is never lost time. I have two labs that are in their twilight and I will cry like a baby when I lose them. I'll pet them both and the new pup a little longer tonight.

:sorry: to hear the bad news, My parents just had to put our gordon setter/black lab down back in Oct. at 13 yrs old. It makes it worse when you arent even around to say goodbye's. At the same time my cocker spaniel got diagnosed with being anemic at 6 yrs old, His body is not accepting protein. They have over $2000 into the dog. I and my parents will always treat our animals like a part of the family, and do what ever it takes to keep them around. Sorry to hear about your loss. Every guy that has a companion knows exactly what its like.

Damn, :sorry: to hear that Hunter, I've been through that a couple of times, my heart goes out to you man. The last dog I had to put down just about killed me, I think I cried til the wife said "grow up" ..... So I did and went out and got another puppy, didn't take the hurt away, just made it not hurt as much. I gotta go now, feel a little choked up!
