I had a big idea today (while I was busy trying to accomplish something at work). This strikes me as a very good idea. I don't know about you guys but I have a lot of tackle. And it seems like every year some new lure or technique strikes my fancy and all of the sudden last years favorite lure (which I bought an overabundance of) falls out of favor.
So imagine this, sometime in let's say March or April (you know, that kind of in between time), we round up all our tackle and meet at a bar and swap tackle. And of course talk about tackle and fishing and the past ice fishing season and meet a few more guys from the site...
I thought that sounded like a good time. What do you think?
-
:happy1:
-
lets do that during april/may because i turn 16 at the end of march so i can go
-
I have a few thousand things I could part with. I like the part about the :toast:. I have thought about listing them on ebay but I never get around to it.
-
I was going to ask you if u put stuff up on ebay
-
lets do that during april/may because i turn 16 at the end of march so i can go
 16 ain't going to get ya into the bar..
-
it will if i walk in with one of you guys but 16 will get me there and i can walk in with one of you guys and if they ask i will say "Gardian" and they will shut up
-
And of course we don't have to go to a bar. We wouldn't want to exclude one of our youngest and most enthusiastic members.
-
It sounds like he's enthusiastic about going to the bar with us!!! ;D :rotflmao:...just kidding. That sounds cool though...I have a bunch of stuff that can be noted as junk that someone else might think is cool. A good idea to kick around for sure.
-
I like the idea although would it be a swap of tackle or would someone like me with a minamal amount of equepment be able to buy what others were wanting to get rid of
-
Probobly both
-
If you want to make it really interesting we could sit in the bar and have our wifes do the tackle trading in the parking lot.. :rotflmao:
-

No question you could swap money for tackle. :happy1:

if we did that i wouldn't have any left she would give it all away :banghead:

:rotflmao: :rotflmao: I just saw your rod holder on the other thread. Your minimal amount of equipment just took my perspective to a new level. :happy1: :happy1:

To me it is minimal there is still so so so much more that I wish i had but you can only buy as much as the paycheck will allow ;D

Hey! Anybody remember this conversation. Now would be the time to do this. Who's interested?!

Great. Well let's see who's interested and then maybe we can find a centrally located spot to meet. Sometime during the month of April seems like a good target.
-
I am all so interested in but date time will be a factor for me, I will keep my eye on this post.
-
I'm in. :happy1:
-
OK so who's coming AND where are you coming from?
I will have the R and D department put together a map so we can pinpoint the exact geographical center of where the players are coming from (I suppose Lee will want to come and really screw up our center).
I can bring some Fawkinnae stuff too if anyone is interested.
-
I'll try to come
Janesville

Why am I always on the outside looking in
-
I wish to attend this event. I should trade off the muskie lures I never use. Muskies are a great tasting fish but the size limits pretty much ruin fishing for them
-
My mother-in-law want's to know if your planning to have a kissing booth. She'd like to help out since she worked one back in "47".
-
White Bear Lake for DDS.

Brilliant. Why didn't I think of that.
OK we'll put Rod-man and DDS in charge of that committee.
-
I'm in from brainerd
ray
-
North Branch area here
-
1. me - Maple Grove
2. Assassin88 (not to be confused with 87) - North Branch
3. ray634 - Brainerd
3. DDS - White Bear Lick
4. Ken - Lino Lakes
5. Rod-man - Janesville
6. White Oak Buck - North Branch
7. Wildlife - Perham
Looks like we're starting to tilt toward the Northeast, maybe up around Fridley, Blaine. Kind of a haul for some of you guys but lets keep this moving.
Dates - I'm thinking maybe something like the 14th or 15th. Weekend after Easter. The weekend after might work too. Just looking for time and place that works for as many as possible.
How about some of you other guys who were interested at one time, Walkingstick3, Lentz, Bobby, FireRanger, Prosupermag? Anyone else?
-
The best days that work for me is Sunday or Monday If it later in the even 6 or 7 may work too. :happy1:
-
Bonfire restaurant in Blaine. 35w and Lexington. I know this is a huge stretch for some. It's a start. :happy1:

I would definately make that drive. That bonfire is well know for lure trading already.

DDS why don't you have your people talk to their people, and see if they could handle an event of this magnitude. After all we don't want to start a riot.
-
When we set the date I will get us the VIP room. :happy1: For the time I would suggest 10 am or 2 pm. You never know how busy the lunch crowd will be on a weekend.
-
OK just trying to pick a day. I like next weekend and prefer Saturday to Sunday. Either 10 or 2 works for me. Please weigh in if you are planning on coming.
-
being that distance doesnt work for me but that is fine i also work nights so saturdays are almost always out for me unless late afternoon. I would love to make this event but with things i have going on this month it wont be possible
-
Saturday is out for me I have to be open at my store, Sunday work, I all so think that some of us could car pool like me and ray634 from Brainerd or for who else that want to come form the lake area, split the cost of gas, If this :help: some one that can not go because of that,
If there are some that is wanting to see some of my fur hat or what not let me know I could bring some
-
Saturday or Sunday work for me this weekend. 10 or 2 also work. I think they open at 9 but I will make sure.
-
I would make it later 2 fine it will give the one with the longer drive time to get there.. DDS how far would that be for me?
-
I see that close to the city about 3 1/2 hours
-
It's definitely a trip for you. I don't think I would do it if I was you. :sorry: If there is anything you are looking for I could get it for you and bring it out this summer.
-
I got a kid in the hospital
not sure if I can come
I will have to see how that goes first
-
Best wishes to you and yours Rod man.
I realize this is a live in person flea market atmosphere get together but is it also possible to do online trading as well? I hate to see someone miss out because of proximity.
-
I spoke with The Bonfire staff. Sat. open is 11 am. Sunday open is 10am. If Either of these days work we could probably get the back room if needed. If it's only four of us any table would do. Also if anyone is looking for certain types of tackle let me know. Worms, weights, swimbaits, jigs, ect.
-
:bump: Anybody?
-
G o t T a c k l e ?
I'm still interested and either day would work for me, with maybe a slight preference for Saturday. Weather looks kind of crummy both days so probably won't get out fishing.
-
Well it look like I am out!!    A 7 hour drive there and back is not going to happen! So you all have fun with out me
-
I am open anytime except between 10am and 1 pm sat.But I won't be far away.
-
Instead of calling this a tackle swap maybe we should be calling it a tackle garage sale (with beer). And I see no reason why it should not include other related items like rods, reels, camping gear, ice fishing gear, etc. etc. And you can swap stuff, you can buy stuff, swap wives for tackle, whatever works for you.
-
Let's go with Sat. (tomorrow) at 2pm Bonfire in Blaine. 35w and Lexington. If someone has a small camping cot I might be interested.
-
done.
I am glad we are starting this out small to test the waters and get to know each other first.
Are you talking same room, soft or full swap Doug?
-

Dear Ken. As I am new to swapping, not sure what the difference is between soft or full swap. ;D
I look forward to learning more.
-
 I too am neophyte when it comes to the art of swappage. Should I be worried. :doah:
-
If I can, I will attend....I have to make a run to Gander...and it ain't that much further....
I got nuth'in to swap, but, we'll see...
Besides.... I owe Ken a beer... :toast:
-
Thata Boy!
-
I really wanted to show up.
-
Sorry I wont be able to make it. Grand duaghter up with us for the weekend.
-
Sorry to hear you guys can't make it.
Perhaps someday DDS can travel the state, swapping tackle and filling cavities. Travel to far away places like Perham and Brainerd, heck maybe even Mankato. I would be happy to assist with driving, and just maybe with a little training, I could assist him by handing him his little dental tools - at precisely the right moment - as needed of course...
-
:sorry: I want to work less not more. :doah: I will be there at 2pm. I will have some good stuff. Some not so good too. :rotflmao:
-
I got a couple ice rod holders, tube bodies, a tip up, a couple ice rods...and a mystery item that EVERYBODY would want ;D
And...the boy is coming with me too.... I wonder what I could get for him... maybe a can of :spam:
-
ONe word. c i g a r s.
-
Anybody want a coleman white gas lantern?
-
Wish I could meet you ladies up there but I have Pheasant Forever tonight and then some serious cervesa to meet up with. Have a good one.
-

Sure You guys are :sorry: :dancinred: :dancinred: but it seen to me that we could have one up here as well and then you mite not feel so bad,
I think it a good way to meet some good people on here and clean out some old fish idem that we do not use and get some new thing that we can,
So what do you say ray634 We can set one up here in the lake area. besides we could have lot of tackle here in the lake area. as we mite have more lakes then roads then them city folks. Which means more tackle ;D OK I just mite be a little more Jealous then i thought. :taz:
do we have some more interest in having one in central Minnesota in the Park Rapids area? Next Sunday or the following Sunday. ::welcome:: ::welcome::
we can call this (Central Minnesota MNO tackle and outdoor swap) :dancinred:
-
Hmm I wonder were everyone could be?   maybe :drinking: or :bs: and talking :fishing: :Fish: :fishing2:
-
There are some really good people on this site. I had the priviledge to spend a little time and have good conversation with four of them today. And yes we talked about almost everyone that frequents MNO The final consensus is that we are grateful to be able enjoy such a good communnity. I encourage y'all to have an event like this tackle swap in your neighbohood it is good for the soul.
-
I agree with Ken. It is a great excuse to get together for a :toast: talk fishing, and see if you can get another patron of the bar/restaurant to clamp an ice fishing depth-finder on their nose while holding a Fawkinnae bumper sticker. Our table was full of soft plastics, jigs, rods. There were muskie baits, crank baits, and electronics. To top if off Fawk brought a handful of fine cigars. We were able to sit outside on the patio on a wonderful day. Too bad for those that were not able to make it. HD tell little HD I will send him out some weighted hooks for those swim baits when the 47-s go out. :happy1:
-
Had a great time reconnecting with everyone yesterday. Not sure how much "swapping" there was but there was a whole lot of "giving stuff away" and some really nice stuff too. Thanks everyone. And thanks for lunch HD. Luckily we had a photo journalist on site so I will try to reenact the event the best I can.
1. First DDS set the table
2. Ken and DDS considering the items on the menu
3. HD demanding/negotiating Ken's Seattle Seahawks spinner bait (or whatever the heck it was). This is where I start to forget some of the details.
4. Colton considering a future date with a very big muskie.
5. HD demonstrating his parenting skills.
6. A new club member.
(One of the guys from the kitchen staff came out and said "How do we get a couple of those bumper stickers?"
-
1. We made some new biker friends
2. DDS performed the heimlich on this ambitious patron who coughed up a senko through his nose while clamping. You can't make this stuff up.
3. We stopped at Ken's for a "daycap". Ken's garage.
4. More garage stuff.
5. The Hamm's cooler was full.
6. More Hamm's memorabilia.
-
It was an "interesting" chain of events...
It seems that all the stuff that I brought to swap, was swapped by the boy.
So, he got a bunch of stuff, and I got a couple packs of tube bodies to add to the ones I was try'in to swap...
Oh well.... :rotflmao:
It was a great time...I accually got a chance to sit and :bs: with some friends...and that was worth more than the price of addmission. :happy1:
And who knew, that you can clamp a 1 pound depth bomb on a nose hair? VERY interesting, and entertaining! :rotflmao:
The guy offered the depth bomb back to Fawk....but he respectfully declined, (not sure why) and told him it was his to keep.
I was kinda depressed when I walked into the bar and asked for a Busch Light..and the waitress replied "How can you drink that crap?" I guess rednecks have a different taste in beer than city folks... ;)
-

Because she is smart :whistling:.
Glad to hear you guys had a good time.

Missed it
I hate being buisse
We need to have one this fall strictly ice fishing because I'm planing on dropping another 100+ on ice lures more wally this year than last
-
Hey - I'm thinking we should think about another tackle swap in the next month or two. Maybe after deer hunting is done. Maybe focus on ice fishing tackle. Anyone interested??? Hmmm???
-
Ya foresure ice fishing tackle swap in early December 1st or second weekend
-
Well that would be great if it not to far like last year,,,,
-
I agree. St cloud or north of metro would be better.
-
I'm in. I did really like the location. :sorry: :doah:
-
Last year we met at the Bonfire in Lino Lakes (a bit north of the metro). Seemed like a pretty good place to meet. DDS knew all the women there.
-
If DDS knew all the women I'd for sure want a new spot were the women look good. Unless he knows them because of one of theses.
Then their probably pretty cool. :rotflmao:
-
You are misconstrued about the crafty old Dentist General. He is a total chick magnet. I would be happy to play wing man anytime for that wolf in the sheep outfit. I hope this pans out as I would love to attend.
-
Maybe we should just do this on a lake
Drinks are cheaper and cold and we can catch a few fish

Just to be safe I will be stopping at the Bonfire in Blaine after work today to scout the premises and bribe the wait staff into getting our group past security check point. As soon as a date is picked I will start a vip list and smuggle that into the manager. That way you will be allowed in without having to stand in line. You will be ushered directly out to the patio to a reserved table. Most of you should never try to get into this place on your own. I will request that they save the hottest waitresses for our group. Ash trays will be available if the Fawk remembers the cubans. ;) The things I do for you guys!! :rotflmao:
-
Honestly you great guys at mno. Besides the commaraderie and being able to put faces on names the great tackle swap ended up being a give away to alot of stuff. Including camping gear which I have been able to use on a regular basis including last saturday.
-
But keep this in mine!!!! If you all way have it at the same spot you will just be swamping the same old stuff,
again kenhuntin if you have it at the same place you never you meet new member to the Tackle Box Swap there for you will just have the same people show up!!!( No new faces)
But them what do I know :doah:
-
Not only will there be new stuff, I will be bringing some of the MNO bumper stickers to hand out. These bad boys are going for 35$ a pop on Craigs list. You can get one for just showing up.

Wildlife has made an important point. I suggest that those of us in the metro rent a huge RV and tour the state - swapping tackle everywhere we go.

The best thing to do is look for the 35$ limited edition bumper sticker. If you see one of these anywhere in the world, approach slowly and whisper, "hey bud, ya got any tackle to swap? You will then see why you want to be sporting one of these stickers anywhere they will fit. ;) ;) :happy1: :happy1:
-
I would be interested if ya did it on a lake some were. Could have a tackle swap and a fish off at the same time. :fishing2:
-
Time to start zeroing in on some dates... The weekend after deer hunting is Nov 17-18 and the weekend after Thanksgiving is 24-25.
-
November 17th works for me. I will have a collectors item MNO bumper sticker for everyone in attendance as well as some pretty cool ice lures to give out. :happy1:
-
I think I could do the 17th.
-
17th don't work for me

-
Looks like so far me and DDS are planning to swap tackle at some unknown destination (but leaning towards Bonfire in Blaine) at some unknown time.
-
The 17th works just fine for me. I have some really cool stuff for you to try out. Say did Wyofish need any twister tails or swim baits?
-

Well lets see if we can "lure" anyone else. And yes the lad could probably use some cool new, North Dakota friendly, twister tails and swim baits. I will try to remember to bring a sample of the bait he said has been hot at the tail race.
-
I am assuming Kenny will be there. It's right out his back door.
-
when and where are you haveing this i would like to make it to this but i just saw the posts for it today

It's right along 35W. And seems more like Lino Lakes.
-
I am starting to have second thoughts about this for Saturday only because I think it's going to be nice enough to go fishing instead...
-
I have seen ice the last couple of days on my way to work but the weather is going to be mild for a while yet. Let's wait a bit. We won't be ice fishing anytime soon. These ATI-57's , while very effective, are a real pain in the :moon: to make. I think I may put the ca bosh on these as soon as I get the ordered ones done. ****anyone that has contacted me about these will get some.***

Sounds good to me. Either you or Wyofish should get me a pic of the magic tail. I would like to see what I could come up with. ;) ;) Color selection too.

Any time is good for the famous tackle swap. The more frequent the better. The Bonfire is definately the best place. The wait staff there is so amiable to the cause that it makes it even more fun than the event is to itself. Make sense to anyone?

I will be stopping in tonight. 4:30. Stop by if you can.

I'd show if it were on a Friday or weekend.
I need a new calendar from Kenny, and a few shirts from the Fawkinator.
Other than that, I ain't got no tackle to swap. ;D

Who says you have to swap tackle... the magic of beer.
-
I am gonna try and make the beer swap tonight. I may be able to have a gun calendar or two there. Not many left . When you can win a gun every day for the whole year they go fast.
-
I had a meeting at the base camp with Kenhuntin. I now have in my possession a Ducks Unlimited gun give-away calender. What a deal. A drawing is done everyday for the year. 50$ donation and you become a member of DU. There are only a few left. :toast: Thanks Ken!! The only thing is it had writing on it. It said something like Save for HD. :whistling: :whistling: :fudd: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
I forgot to mention the manager asking if we had anymore Fawkinnae bumper stickers. I will be furnishing those. The next time Obie whan- Fawkinnae goes to the club house he may want to bring a couple of shirts along. ;) ;) Just sayin. ;D

Nope!! I will buy all the remaining calenders before you get one. Heck, I made Kenny sign a paper that they would not sell one to you. :doah: :doah:

You have done well Luke.
-
The product sells itself.. She was looking for her pic on the web site. I know it was posted here but you have a big fan and I think if her pic should happen to appear on the official web site you may see an increase in views. She has asked me about it 2x and I said I am only a lowly, although highly skillled, Jeteye. :king:
-
To clarify the Minnesota state Ducks Unlimited is or has because they are nearly gone a 365 gun raffle calendar. Rifles pistols and shotguns one a day for the entire calendar year 2013 you get drawn and your name goes right back in the barrel so you could win multiple times if you are as lucky as Wildlife with the horseshoe :moon:oe. I heard he is in the running for top prize in the big buck challenge. A one year membership is included with du magazine and stickers so you can display a duckhead on your truck. Anyway the few that are left are only availiable at the tackle swap meetings or pehaps I could swing one your way if you are a MNO member. Tonight there were alot of hot ladies asking where the fawkinnae guy was. It is tough playing second or third fiddle and competing with doctors of dentistry and sex symbol t shirt peddlers.
Hunterdown I have one reserved for you and will hold it until the next swap meet.
-
This 'calender' talk is making me kinda antsy....how would one procure a copy before they are all spoken for? I am located in Zimmerman and have the means and wants to travel to attain said calender. ;D
-
If you are serious Fireranger I have one with your name almost on it. I can either get one to you at a tackle swap if we have another beer I mean tackle swap soon. Or via mail. Right now I have another eight available
-
I am serious...and don't call me shirley. ;D Yes I would like at least one maybe more. I got your pm and will be contacting you post hastely. Thanks Ken!
-
How did the swap go?
-
How did the swap go?
Well Lentz - you might be happy to learn that we postponed it. The weather was so nice we thought we'd find a crummy day to go inside. Coming soon.
-

One day next week want to meet up at fleet farm fawk?
Sure.
-
I did happen to pick up my calendar from Grizzly Adams..... :happy1:
Thanks Kenny!

You are welcome HD I am glad to bring even more fun to the tackle box swap. Wildlife and Fireranger should recieve theirs within a day or two. This is really close to hijacking so in order to get one you need to be a tackle swap enthusiast or attend one. If anyone wants to have a tackle swap pick a time and place. I am sure someone here will want to come to it no matter where it is.

I'm thinking maybe we shoot for next weekend - before icefishing gets cooking. I think I could do either Saturday or Sunday afternoon. What do you guys thing=k? (Note creative spelling.)
-
I'm in #2
-
I could potentially go Sunday and if I can make it ill bring some of my homemade jerky and sticks
-
 :toast: :woot:   ok I'm in. :rotflmao:
-
So I think I am seeing 4 guys interested (not counting the Bonfire staff who has been anxiously awaiting our return). Oh yeah and I almost forgot the guy who tried to inhale a senco. Fire Ranger said he was interested also.
Sunday seems to be the best day. Let's say about 2 pm
Bring stuff to buy, swap or sell.
I will bring some Fawkinnae stuff too. Let me know if anyone wants anything in particular.
-
:happy1: :happy1: See you then.
-
As long as my wife decides its okay for me to leave the 5 mile vicinity this weekend, I'll be there. Might have to put down hardwood flooring this weekend....keep you guys posted. I'll be checking the ice in a few spots locally before the weekend also. :snow5:

Let me know if you would like me to talk to her.
-
Me and the boy will try and make this event. ;D
-
I think I have your excuse Fireranger: I have to have the calendar registration forms back by 2:15 pm on Sunday.
Does any one have a use like taking kids out for the old stab in the ice jig sticks?
See yall Sunday
-
LOL :rotflmao:!! I will let her know. I'll see what I can do guys. Sounds like she doesn't wanna commit HER time to help with the floor...the odds are swinging :happy1:!
-
Bring her with.

I will be bringing a few of these along. A few members have contacted me about these and will get them. They are not for sale. Some will be offered as prizes in the ice challenge. Come to the tackle swap if you want to get a sample. I guarantee these will catch fish through the ice as well as open water. I will be going into detail about how they are to be fished. I started using these at the end of last winter and have made a couple of modifications that I think will put more fish on the ice or in your boat. If you are not entered in the ice challenge this will be your only chance to get a sample. :sorry:

The title of this video is the ATI 47 but it is in fact the ATI 57 I am using. The battery on the camera ran out before I landed the pike but if you watch the vexilar you can see the fish hit the 57 on the drop. I know they work so come by the Bonfire in Blaine on Sunday at 2pm and get one to try out.

Thrilling! Lake trout?
-
No, 30 inch pike. I had cut off all my twisted line from the year before--- :doah: I was lucky to land that one. He had me darn near the knot on the spool. I won't make that mistake again.
-
I'll try to remember to bring some cigars.
-
We still a go for tomorrow at Axel's for the swap?? I got the green light, finally wore her down, she's exhausted.
-
It's all systems go!!! :happy1: 2pm
-
I would like to invite all the people sitting on the fence. This is really a feel good casual event. All are welcome and the more the better. Even Matthews4ever would have a good time if he came. Meaning the hunting guys would enjoy it. I have in my possession the last 13 unspoken for and available DU 365 gun raffle calendars in the state. They are open for trade tomorrow.I hope to see the old boys and meet new people tomorrow at 2:00.
-
Everybody know how to get there?
-
I worked today how did the event go?
-
The tackle exchange went well. We were hoping you might show Lentz. We had a good turn out. We had Fireranger, HD, HD's son, Kenhuntin(in disguise). Fawkinnae, myself and The General. It was great to see everybody. Both FireRanger and I gave our MNO Fishing Challenge acceptance speeches. We both did our best to thank all the little people. We signed a few autographs. There was quite a long line for autographs so we had the management shut it down for a while. Fawkinnae figuered with all the lefties in charge of this country he had better get another job to pay the upcoming tax increases. They were nice enough to let him fill out a job application. Tackle was swapped and Doug found a nice Christmas present for his wife. :whistling:

It's really not so much a tackle swap, more like DDS passes around a bunch of (really nice) free stuff.
-
Always a good time meeting up with friends. Ken it was nice to finally meet you.
-
Couple more pics from The Tackle Give-away.
-
Couple more. Great time!
-
It was as always a very enjoyable time. The guys that come to these are quality people. So MNO must have more than it's fair share. It felt really good to fill out the evening in the icehouse. I must admit I lost a little surefootedness. I was very surprised to have found one of my favorite pout lures at the swap. They are not produced any longer and are very sought after. DDS makes a great lure for the pout as well. Some day he will be placed into the fishing hall of fame between Bill Dance and Al Lindner.
Hope to see you at the next one
