The last 3-4 days have seen the ice go from safe to drive on with an ATV, to danger, stay off.
Burntside had 16-19 inches of decent ice in many places last Thursday and Friday.
This changed to about 10 or less of soft, crumbling ice as of yesterday.
I've never seen conditions change as rapidly as this in my entire life.
Stay off these lakes, be safe.
Trout season is open until the 31st of March, both inside and outside of the BWCA, and you may have ice out well before then.
I'll keep the forum updated on Snowbank and Burntside Lakes in case someone wants a little late season trout action.

Several cool nights have stopped the ice out on Burntside and Snowbank Lakes. Parts of the Lakes are open, but not enough to allow boat travel of any distance. We had hope of a bit of boat fishing for Lakers before the season ends on Saturday, but isn't looking good.
You can try to contact Ron or Denny at Smitty's on Snowbank to see if there is any hope by the weekend.

High winds kicked ice butt today, so most lakes in the area opened this afternoon, or should be by the morning!!
You'll be able to get a few days of open water trout action before it closes!
