I picked up a Humminbird model (the 150/160?) something of that nature a couple of years ago to put on my canoe.  It seems to fit the bill for my needs.  I believe it was around the $150 range for the portable set up that included the transducer, graph, portable carrying bag and battery.  It is nothing overly fancy by any means, but I can see the depth, some bottom composition, where the fish are and the h20 temp.
