There was a wild fire aided by high winds just south of Ely yesterday afternoon.
It was apparently caused by power lines being taken down by falling trees, and burned about 100 acres.
Water bombers, helicopters, and fire crews from many different departments brought the fire under control late yesterday.
A portion of Ely was evacuated, and one home (outside of the city limits?) was reported to have been lost.
Hwy 1 still had a barricade across it early this morning.
More info to follow.

No, I'm in the middle of Ely on Sheridan St. in the same parking lot as Mike's Liquor, a block east of Zup's Grocery Store and the Rockwood Restaurant.
