I know it's early and some are in the draw, but it's not a bad idea to start scouting for new bait locations and looking around for bait sources.

I have bear hunted in past years with....ok success.
What, in your opinion, would be the ultimate bear bait?

Best bait in Manitoba where its legal is a frozen beaver...I went hunting with a buddy from Mb about 25 years ago he had gotten a couple dozen beaver from a trapper..wow did they work... he had one tied on a rope about 7' high and I watched 4 different bears try to get it one night..Talk to Dakids. ;)

Yep, bears love beaver. In mn you can only use 1/4 of a carcass. I chop them up frozen with a splitting mall. I also use the castor glands. Cut the sack open and hang it high and let the wind work.

Falls back to protien. I agree with jerry, beaver is ears fav and will take beaver over doughnuts. once I get a bear on site with smells and treats, i suppliment priteins. i used beave if i had a them availbe but i dont trap. I like to use beef fat.

Same here, start with sweets and change to protein, carbs and fats as it gets into Fall. We still however offer a variety all season as each year seems to have it's own twist on what they want.

So what do you consider to be a protien for use as legal bear bait???
