Bears' Hall, and Packers' Dorleant arrested in Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Authorities in central Iowa say Chicago Bears cornerback Deiondre Hall and Green Bay Packers cornerback Makinton Dorleant were arrested outside a bar in Cedar Falls.

Hall was cited for disorderly conduct, public intoxication and interference with official acts. Dorleant was cited for interference.

Police say officers responded to a report of a fight outside the bar Sharkey's Funhouse on Saturday night.

According to a police affidavit, Hall did not respond to police instructions and spit in the officers' faces. Police say an officer used a Taser on Hall's legs in order to get him into the squad car.

Dorleant was detained after authorities say he approached officers "in a threatening manner" following Hall's arrest.

A Packers spokesman says the team is aware of the situation and "gathering more information." The Bears have not responded to an email looking for comment.

Both men played college football in Cedar Falls at Northern Iowa.

To much money! To much Fame! To much arrogance! To much power! To much immaturity!  Think they can do and get away anything! Of course that applies to only a small percentage of our athletes but, we have to read about this stuff to often. They need to be punished more harshly.

I can't imagine what it must be like to have 70,000 people cheering you on at a stadium.  Getting 1/2 million dollars per game.  (per week)  And being under 30 years old.  That has got to swell ones head.  Or both of them.  The true meaning of  money is no object....

USF's Childs shot, arrested after road rage incident.

:reporter; News was posted 1hr. ago My..... My....And the beat goes on! :bonk:

 :coffee: ...
As he lay in a hospital bed, University of South Florida defensive back Hassan Childs was arrested on three felony counts of aggravated assault and a single count of misdemeanor marijuana possession, Tampa police announced on Monday.

Childs, 22, is in stable condition with three gunshot wounds to his arms and chest. He was shot after police said he instigated a road rage incident around 11 p.m. on Saturday. Childs confronted a male driver --- whose wife and 3-year-old son were in his vehicle --- outside of an apartment building.

“Childs pulled to the driver’s side of Jimenez’s vehicle and pointed a silver handgun toward Jovanni Jimenez,” the Tampa police said in a statement. “In fear of his life and his family’s life, Jovanni Jimenez fired three rounds at Childs.”

Jimenez then drove home and called 911.

Both Jimenez and Childs have concealed weapons permits, according to police. Police said officers recovered a loaded firearm and 20 grams of marijuana from Childs' Chevrolet Malibu.

"Thankfully Hassan is in stable condition and being well-cared for, and no one else was injured," USF head coach Charlie Strong said in a statement to the Tampa Bay Times. "There is an ongoing investigation of the incident, and we are in the process of gathering further information. Out of respect for the integrity of the investigation, we cannot comment further at this time."

Today in the sports news :coffee:.....

Another scum bag to add to the list of bad seeds.

BOSTON (AP) Chicago Bears wide receiver Deonte Thompson has testified in the double-murder trial of ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez.

The former New England Patriots tight end played football with Thompson at the University of Florida.

Thompson testified Monday about a Florida party he invited Hernandez to in February 2013. Hernandez smiled when Thompson referred to him as ''my guy.''

Thompson's team, then the Baltimore Ravens, had just won the Super Bowl. Thompson said he remembers Hernandez introducing Alexander Bradley as ''my homie'' and said they appeared to be good friends.

Prosecutors say Hernandez shot Bradley days later because he feared Bradley would tell authorities he saw Hernandez kill two men in Boston in July 2012. Defense lawyers say Bradley shot the men over a drug deal.

Prosecutors began presenting their case this month.

NFL suspends free-agent safety T.J. McDonald eight games

   :coffee:  ......
T.J. McDonald is currently a free agent and, when he does eventually sign with an NFL team, he'll have to wait half a season before he can play.

The former Rams safety was suspended eight games for violating the NFL's Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, the league announced Wednesday.

The suspension stems from McDonald's arrest last May, when he was charged with driving underinfluence of a substance other than alcoholr the  in Woodland Hills, Calif. The 26-year-old McDonald was formally charged in September and pleaded guilty in January to a misdemeanor count of reckless driving involving drugs or alcohol.

He was sentenced to three years' probation and fined $390 plus penalties as part of a plea agreement. McDonald also has to complete a one-month live-in drug program, attend alcohol and narcotics classes and perform 200 hours of community service.

McDonald was arrested when he hit a parked car May 10, but did wait for police to arrive. McDonald was also ordered in January to pay restitution to the driver of the other vehicle.

McDonald, a third-round pick from USC in 2013, took a free-agent visit to Miami on the same day he learned of his suspension,  according to ESPN.com.

Seahawks' Trevone Boykin Arrested for Second Time in 11 Days. :imstupid:

 :coffee:
We were hoping this was an incorrect report, but it seems as if some trouble is brewing for the Seattle Seahawks this offseason. :doah:

Marshawn Lynch possibly coming back to a new team? We thought that was enough. Now Richard Sherman trade rumors? Come on.

Trevone Boykin arrested for the second time in 11 days?
Not good. tut_tut-3315.gif

 :police:
Russell Wilson's backup is having a bit of an issue staying out of trouble. As if his first arrest wasn't enough, Boykin was booked again for reportedly violating his parole -- which was set in June of 2016 after an incident with police following the Alamo Bowl -- because of that late March incident.

 :police:
"Boykin was taken into custody at 1:35 PM on Thursday and released a few hours later on $2,500 bond. He'll be arraigned on May 3," according to TMZ Sports.

"He's facing up to a year in jail and a $4,000 fine." :happy1:

At this point, we don't know what this means for the former TCU star, but based on the way teams have recently been handling players that have had recurring issues with the law, this could mean the end of his career with the Seahawks.

49ers cut CB Brock after domestic violence arrest  tut_tut-3315.gif

 :reporter; Sports Illustrated

 :doah:
The 49ers released starting cornerback Tramaine Brock on Friday afternoon, one day after he was arrested in Santa Clara on a domestic violence charge involving his girlfriend.
Other than a terse, one-sentence statement, the team had no comment. But that spoke volumes considering that Brock’s arrest was the 15th for a 49ers player since 2012, the first under the new regime of general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan.

Brock made bail and was released at noon Friday after being arrested the night before on suspicion of felony domestic violence. He had no comment when he left the police station, and his agent didn’t return calls.

The 5-foot-10, 197-pound Brock started all 16 games at cornerback last season and 40 for the team in his seven-season career. He was one of five players remaining from the 49ers’ most recent Super Bowl appearance.

Brock, 28, was arrested about 9:35 p.m. Thursday in Santa Clara. The incident allegedly took place at Brock's residence, less than a mile from the team’s headquarters.

Police called to investigate a domestic dispute discovered a woman, whom Brock apparently had been dating, with visible injuries, said Lt. Dan Moreno of the Santa Clara Police Department.

She was not transported to the hospital, Moreno added.

Brock was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail. Brock did not have any prior domestic violence calls in Santa Clara, Moreno said.

At their Jan. 30 introductory news conference, Lynch and Shanahan discussed how they hoped to alter the culture of the team.

“We’re going to hold people accountable,” Shanahan said. “We’re going to do it the right way.”

Lynch elaborated by emphasizing that the team will consist of players with “great character, football character and we’re going to have guys that are interested in making their community a better place.”

The string of 49ers’ arrests began in 2012 when suspended now-Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith was charged with DUI in Miami Beach. Before Thursday, the most recent had been in September when tight end Bruce Miller was arrested for assaulting an elderly man and his son in a San Francisco hotel. The team cut Miller, as it was his second arrest in two years.

Brock has spent his entire career with San Francisco. He joined the team in 2010 as an undrafted free agent out of Belhaven University in Jackson, Miss.

Brock’s removal leaves the 49ers with only four players who played in the Super Bowl in February 2013 — tackle Joe Staley, center Daniel Kilgore, tight end Garrett Celek and linebacker Ahmad Brooks.

It also leaves San Francisco with two starting cornerback vacancies, as Lynch said last month that Jimmie Ward is moving to free safety.

Rashard Robinson, a fourth-round pick last year, Dontae Johnson and Keith Reaser are the next men up, and the team could also add a corner in three weeks at the NFL draft. Ohio State's Marshon Lattimore, a projected top-five pick, visited the 49ers facility earlier in the week.

Ex-NFL WR Young sentenced to 4 years in prison :bonk:

The tragic tale of Titus Young entered another chapter when the former Detroit Lions receiver was sentenced to four years in prison.
This sentence, reported by TMZ Sports, stems from a 2016 incident in which the young man left a court-ordered mental health facility and promptly got involved in a vicious street fight with his neighbor.

“According to court records, Young recently pled no contest to 1 count of felony battery causing serious bodily injury … and was sentenced to four years in state prison.”

  .. training-087 :taz:
This follows a long line of outrageous off-field incidents that ended Young’s NFL career early (after just two seasons with the Lions). He has been arrested multiple times in the past, has been hospitalized for mental health issues and avoided a prison sentence back in 2015 after being charged with felony assault, receiving five years of probation instead .

At this point, we sincerely hope Young gets the help he needs. Once a promising young up-and-coming receiver, he still has the rest of his life to live at the age of 27.

Ex-NFL star Aaron Hernandez hangs himself in his prison cell.

  ....
BOSTON (AP) -- Hours before his former New England Patriots teammates were due to visit the White House to celebrate their Super Bowl victory, prison officials say, Aaron Hernandez tied one end of his bedsheet to a window and the other around his neck and hanged himself.

 :coffee:
In a maximum-security prison outside Boston, about an hour from the stadium where he played alongside stars like Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowsi, Hernandez jammed the door to his one-man cell lest guards try to stop him, and put an early end to the life-without-parole sentence he received for a 2013 murder.

He was 27.

It was the last act in the downfall of an athlete who once seemed to have everything -- including a five-year $40 million contract extension -- and threw it all away.

The former NFL star's death left friends, family and his legal team shocked and in disbelief, searching for an explanation. Just last Friday, Hernandez was acquitted in a separate murder case.

"There were no conversations or correspondence from Aaron to his family or legal team that would have indicated anything like this was possible," said his attorney, Jose Baez.

"Aaron was looking forward to an opportunity for a second chance to prove his innocence. Those who love and care about him are heartbroken and determined to find the truth surrounding his untimely death."

Guards found Hernandez shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday at the state prison in Shirley, Correction Department spokesman Christopher Fallon said. The former tight end was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later.

Fallon said he was not aware of any suicide note and officials had no reason to believe Hernandez was suicidal. Otherwise, he would have been transferred to a mental health unit, Fallon said.

The Worcester County district attorney's office and the Correction Department are investigating.

The Patriots had no immediate comment. At the White House event in the afternoon, President Donald Trump congratulated the Super Bowl champions but made no mention of Hernandez.

A star tight end for the University of Florida when it won the 2008 national championship, Hernandez dropped to the fourth round of the NFL draft because of trouble in college that included a failed drug test and a bar fight. His name had also come up in an investigation into a shooting.

Still, he was a productive tight end for the Patriots for three seasons. After catching 79 passes for 910 yards and seven touchdowns in his second year to help the team reach the Super Bowl.

But the Patriots released him in 2013, shortly after he was arrested in the killing of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee. Hernandez was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Last week, Hernandez was acquitted in the 2012 drive-by shootings of two men in Boston. As the jury was deliberating, cameras spied Hernandez blowing kisses to the young daughter he fathered with fianc?e Shayanna Jenkins.

Prosecutors said he gunned the two men down after one accidentally spilled a drink on him in a nightclub. Hernandez then got a tattoo of a handgun and the words "God Forgives" to commemorate the crime, according to prosecutors.

Investigators suggested Hernandez shot Lloyd to keep him quiet about the two earlier killings.

In the Dorchester neighborhood where Lloyd grew up, a family friend of the victim wondered if Hernandez could no longer bear the weight of his crime and his squandered potential.

"I just think it got to him -- the guilt," Mixson Philip said. "Each man has to live with himself. You can put on an act like nothing happened, but you've got a soul. You've got a heart. You can't say you don't think about these things. There's no going around that."

Miami Dolphins center Mike Pouncey said on Instagram that he spoke with his former college teammate a day earlier.

"Today my heart hurts as I got the worse news I could have imagined," he said. "I will forever miss you and love you bro."

Friends were also grieving in Connecticut, where Hernandez was raised.

"Especially after him getting acquitted of the double murder. That was a positive thing in our minds," said Alex Cugno, who grew up with Hernandez in Bristol.

"I don't believe that he would have killed himself. It just doesn't add up. It's fishy. It makes you wonder what really went on behind those walls in prison."

Ex-Cowboy Randle found guilty in aggravated battery training-087 case.

4/21/17

 :reporter;
Former Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was found guilty of two counts of aggravated battery, criminal threat, aggravated burglary, and possession of marijuana on Friday, according to TMZ Sports.
It was alleged that Randle backed his car into three people while leaving a party back in February 2016. Randle was also alleged to have got into a violent altercation training-087 at the party prior to leaving, as well as running from police when officers later attempted to serve him with a warrant for the incident.

Akeam Ashford of KWCH recounted the strange events that took place after the 25-year-old was found guilty, with the ex-running back apparently confused by the proceedings:

Judge O'Conner asks Randle if he has any questions about what happened. Randle replied, "I don't understand what just happened." :bonk:

NJ.com reports (http://bit.ly/2q4jdTW ) a criminal complaint says Greene was seen on camera handing a gun to another man who fired into a crowd. His co-defendant was charged with aggravated assault, but the extent of the victim's injuries was not known.

Greene last played a game in 2014 for the Chicago Bears, who drafted him in the fourth round of the 2013 draft.

He appeared in 25 games with six starts over two seasons for Chicago. He had 60 1/2 tackles, one interception and one forced fumble to go with seven special-teams stops.

Report: Gordon in ‘desperate financial situation,' hopes for reinstatement

  ....
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon has been suspended since before the start of the 2016 NFL season, and he’s reportedly hurting financially.
According to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, things are so bad right now that sources close to Gordon say he’s in a “desperate financial situation.”

Who's sorry now! ......
After bei :cry:ng denied reinstatement this spring, Gordon now has to wait until September to apply again. Cole notes that Gordon is looking for a new agent (after his old agent dumped him) that can hopefully help him financially in the meantime. Though after what’s transpired the past couple of years that might be a bit too optimistic.

 tut_tut-3315.gif .....
The Browns have been very noncommittal about Gordon’s status with the franchise, should he be reinstated by the NFL. It’s hardly surprising, given his multiple suspensions.

Ain't dat a shame :embarrassed: ....
That said, it’s clear the former All-Pro receiver would be able to help the offense if he were able to stay on the field. After all, back in 2013 he caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in just 14 games.

more...... :doah:

The NFL has reportedly denied the reinstatement application of Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon after the former Pro Bowler was forced to sit out each of the past two seasons.

Gordon has been suspended a total of four times for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. Though, the league’s decision on Thursday should raise some eyebrows. Most figured Gordon’s application for reinstatement from his most-recent suspension would be approved.

That’s obviously not the case! :happy1:

Jermaine Whitehead cited for driving 110 mph on way to Packers practice.

May 24, 2017

 :coffee: ....
Green Bay Packers safety Jermaine Whitehead was recently pulled over for driving incredibly fast on the freeway in the wee hours of the morning, but at least he was heading to work.

  ....
According to a police report obtained by Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Whitehead was cited on May 19 for driving 110 mph in a 70-mph zone. It was 3:39 a.m. at the time, and Whitehead said he and the two teammates he was riding with needed to be at the Packers’ team facility by 8 a.m.

 :bs: ...
“Jermaine originally said he was going 75 to 80 :whistling: when I asked him how fast he was driving,” deputy sheriff Chad Baumann wrote. “I told him his speed (110 mph) and the fact he was passing a semi at a high rate of speed. He did not contest this speed.

“I learned he and the 3 occupants were heading to Green Bay as they have to work at 8 a.m. I then learned they were Green Bay Packer players.”

Whitehead was driving near Milwaukee at the time, which is about two hours away from Green Bay. He was issued a ticket for $515.50 and is scheduled to appear in court on June 14.

Whitehead spent most of the 2016 season on the practice squad with the Packers, appearing in just two games on special teams. He’s fortunate to have only been written a ticket (like another professional athlete who recently caught a break) for driving that fast, as he could have been arrested. It’s unclear if he managed to get to work on time. tut_tut-3315.gif

:reporter; Ex-NFL  RB Green arrested after child abuse accusations.

 :doah: ....
Former Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green has been arrested in Wisconsin on allegations of child abuse, according to Paul Srubas of the Green Bay Press-Gazette.
Green was reportedly arrested at his home Sunday evening. As Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper notes, jail records show Green has been charged with child abuse-intentionally causing harm/cruelty toward child.

Green starred for the Packers from 2000-06, topping 1,000 yards rushing six times, and he remains the leading rusher in franchise history.

Green also played for the Seattle Seahawks and Houston Texans.

Vikings' Floyd gets day in jail for house arrest violation.

by USA Today Sports

 :reporter; .....
Michael Floyd will be headed to jail for a day as penalty for violating his house arrest.

 :bonk: ......
Floyd had been on house arrest as part of the penalty terms for his December extreme DUI. He committed a violation when he tested positive for alcohol two weeks ago.

His penalty for the violation is a day in jail and five more days of house arrest. :banghead:

 :coffee: .....
The Minnesota Vikings wide receiver claimed he had alcohol in his system because of kombucha tea. The team sent a letter taking responsibility for having the tea at their facility. :doah:

:coffee: ... more

Vikings' Floyd expected to be sidelined to open season.

A preliminary Minnesota Vikings roster projection by Matt Vensel of The Star Tribune doesn’t include an active Michael Floyd.

  ...
The reason being is that Floyd could likely be facing an NFL suspension for a December 2016 drunk driving arrest. Per the report, if Floyd gets suspended he will not count towards the 53-man roster.

 :doah: ....
This is taking into consideration that Floyd is still a member of the Vikings once September rolls around. Floyd was involved in another incident where he is disputing that he did not fail a recent alcohol test. He is currently on house arrest with a zero tolerance alcohol policy.

The Vikings’ current wide receivers that round out the rest of the projected 53-man roster include Stefon Diggs, Adam Thielen, Laquon Treadwell, Jarius Wright and Rodney Adams, per Vensel.

 :banghead: ...
Floyd’s future with the Vikings at the very least, looks to be suspended in mid-air. He was an original 13th overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2012. The Cardinals immediately cut him when news of December’s arrest broke.

Fortunately for Floyd, the New England Patriots quickly signed him and turned him into a one-time Super Bowl champion.

We will see soon enough what the Vikings plan to do about Floyd with a possible suspension looming.

Floyd needs to be sent in to finish his sentence in jail. He would have known that the tea was likely to become alcoholic by not refrigerating it. He is just acting like all the other "DINDONUFFIN"s crying I didn't know. Jail his azz and get someone who can follow the rules.

8/1/17

 :coffee: .....
Detroit Lions defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch are being sued for the remaining $5,332 of a $9,332 nightclub tab accrued in March.

  ..
Richard James Harrington hosted both players at Hyde Sunset Kitchen and Cocktails in Hollywood, where Robinson and Benenoch ran up a $9,332 tab. When it was time to pay the bill, both Robinson's and Benenoch's credit cards were declined. :bonk:

Harrington paid the bill on the condition that both players pay him back for their expenses. It's stated in the lawsuit that Harrington received $4,000, but the duo is refusing to pay the remainder. :moon:

Benenoch believes they met their responsibilities, however.

"We did our part," Benenoch said via ESPN's Jenna Laine and Michael Rothstein.

"This is all I'm really going to say on it - I'm focused on football. I'm not really worried about what they've got going on. The legal system is going to play itself out. I'm focused on what we've got going on here."

Robinson declined to comment :moon:  :reporter; when asked by ESPN.

Falcons' Jalen Collins Suspended 10 games for PED violation. :tut:

3 hours ago:

 :bonk: ...
The NFL suspended Atlanta Falcons cornerback Jalen Collins 10 games without pay for violating the league's policy on performance enhancing substances.

  ...
It will be the second year in a row that Collins will be suspended to begin the season. He was banned for four games last season for violating the PED policy.

  ...
Collins, who was the team's second round pick in the 2015 NFL draft, is eligible to return to the team's active roster on Nov. 21, and can participate in all preseason practices and games before the first week of the regular season.

 :angry2: ....
“We are extremely disappointed that for the second straight season we are dealing with a suspension for Jalen. Such are the consequences when certain choices are made. Our decisions going forward will be based on what Dan and I feel is best for the team," Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said in a statement.

The 24-year-old Collins played in eight games last season, totaling 31 tackles, 10 pass breakups and two interceptions. :moon:

Falcons' Jalen Collins Suspended 10 games for PED violation.

Yes, the articles are saying 10 game suspension for Performance Enhancing Drug violation now.

However, back in 2015 he was entering the NFL substance abuse policy for multiple failed drug tests.

I wonder if this latest suspension is for steroids or if he is not able to stay off the drugs.

Zach Randolph arrested on felony weed charges.

 :coffee: ......
Sacramento Kings power forward Zach Randolph was arrested in Los Angeles early Thursday morning, according to a breaking news report from TMZ. Randolph was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell, according to the report.

 :police: ...
Three people were detained -- including Randolph, who was eventually arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell, A FELONY. We're told the "intent to sell" part was due to the large amount of weed found.

Recreational marijuana is legal in California, but there are limits on how much you can have for it to be considered recreational. Weed is also still considered illegal at the federal level, and is a banned substance in the eyes of the NBA.

  ...
We’re obviously still in the dark about how this will all play out, but it’s a disappointing start to Randolph’s Kings career. Even if he avoids jail time, we can probably expect the league to suspend him for at least a few games.

Lynch sits during national anthem vs. Cardinals. :bonk:

 :coffee: ......
Oakland Raiders running back Marshawn Lynch became the latest athlete to not stand during the national anthem ahead of Saturday's preseason game versus the Arizona Cardinals.

The Raiders star, who sat out the 2016 season and came out of retirement this spring, is the latest NFL player to protest during the anthem, joining Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins - who will continue to do so this year - and free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick, among others.

No other players joined Lynch on Saturday. :happy1:

The protest came amid a day of violence, with a group of white nationalists storming the University of Virginia campus in Charlottesville. A vehicle drove into a group of counter-protesters, killing at least one person and injuring numerous others.

Seahawks DE Michael Bennett remains seated during national anthem

 :reporter;10 hrs ago.....

  :angry2: Anudder douch bag .....
Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett sat alone on the team's bench during the national anthem as the Seahawks opened the preseason in Los Angeles on Sunday.

After the song concluded, Bennett rejoined his teammates on the field who were standing with locked arms.

Bennett's silent protest took place one day after Oakland Raiders running back and former teammate Marshawn Lynch remained seated before the Raiders 20-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Like Lynch, Bennett received a mix of hate and praise for his protest.

The move from Bennett doesn't exactly come as a surprise.

The Pro Bowl defensive end has been outspoken about social issues that matter to him before and is currently writing a book called "How to Make White People Uncomfortable."

Bennett is also good friends with 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick,  :bonk: who began sitting during the national anthem last September. He recently said he believes Kaepernick is being "blackballed" in regard to the fact he has not yet been signed by an NFL team.

Kaepernick worked out for the Seahawks this offseason, but the team later decided to sign Broncos free agent Austin Davis instead.

:reporter; Former Green Bay Packers RB Ahman Green pleads not guilty to child abuse.

8/24/17

 :coffee: ....
Former Packers running back Ahman Green on Thursday pleaded not guilty to child abuse charges, WBAY first reported.

Green, who is due to return to court in December, was charged with felony child abuse and disorderly conduct in June stemming from an incident that involved his teenage daughter earlier that month.

The criminal complaint stated Green allegedly hit his 15-year-old when he became upset she would not do her chores. Green's daughter told deputies he pushed her to the floor, into cabinets, and forcefully carried her into kitchen. The daughter said that Green punched her, and Green told deputies he slapped her upside the head.

The complaint also notes that Green's daughter suffered a black eye and scrapes by her eye. Green said the injuries came from accidentally hitting her glasses. After the incident, the daughter went to a neighbor's house to call police. Green's wife, other family members and a nanny were in the home at the time of the incident.

Green, 40, had stints with Green Bay, Seattle and Houston during his 12 seasons in the NFL and finished his career after the 2009 season with 9,205 rushing yards, 2,883 receiving yards and 74 total touchdowns. A four-time Pro Bowl selection, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards six times for the Packers and remains Green Bay's all-time leading rusher with 8,322 yards.

Scott R. Galvin-USA TODAY Sports New Orleans Saints receiver Willie Snead has been suspended the first three games of the 2017 season, head coach Sean Payton confirmed Friday.

 :bonk: ...
Snead had been suspended four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy but had the ban reduced to three after an appeal, reports NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The violation stems from an offseason DUI arrest, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, though Payton would not confirm the details.

The 24-year-old receiver was expected to be a starter for the Saints, along with Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn Jr., after racking up 895 yards on 72 catches with four touchdowns in 2016. Brandon Coleman and Tommylee Lewis will likely compete to fill Snead's role in his absence.

:banghead:  Dolphins suspend LB Lawrence Timmons indefinitely :angry2:

  ......
The Miami Dolphins announced Tuesday they have suspended linebacker Lawrence Timmons indefinitely.

 :coffee: ......
Timmons, who signed a two-year, $12 million deal  :doah: with the Dolphins this offseason, was not with the team for its season-opening win over the Los Angeles Chargers. A team spokesman told NFL Network's Steve Wyche before the game that his absence was not team or football related. Timmons was with the Dolphins for practice in Southern California all week but did not travel with the team to the stadium.

Asked about the linebacker's absence after the contest, coach Adam Gase declined to comment, though he did say Timmons didn't play as a result of a coach's decision.

"I need to figure some things out before I talk about this," said Gase, via the Miami Herald's Armando Salguero.

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported Tuesday on Up to the Minute that Timmons did provide the team a reason for not showing up.

"They did offer an excuse for his whereabouts and it's pretty clear that the Dolphins took their time to investigate everything and in the end determined that was not a good enough excuse," Garafolo said. "And that's why they suspended him." :moon:

Though the suspension was labeled as "indefinite" by the team, Garafolo reported the max suspension the Dolphins can levy against Timmons is four weeks, per the collective bargaining agreement.

Timmons, who was drafted in the first round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2007, recorded 35.5 sacks in his career and played and started in every Steelers' regular season game since 2010.

Odell Beckham Fined $12,154 for Dog Celebration vs. Eagles :bonk:

 :coffee: ......
Giants receiver Odell Beckham’s crude celebration last weekend cost him $12,154 in the form of a fine from the NFL, according to multiple reports.

That’s the standard fine amount for a celebration that the NFL deems to have crossed the line. Beckham’s teammate Evan Engram was docked the same amount for his Week 2 crotch-grab, as was Steelers linebacker Bud Dupree for an overzealous Key & Peele-inspired hip thrust.

Beckham’s celebration—mimicking a urinating dog—drew a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. He said later it was intended as a dig at Donald Trump’s comments about “son of a b----” NFL players.

Giants owner John Mara told the media that he was “very unhappy” with Beckham’s celebration and that the matter would be addressed internally. Head coach Ben McAdoo has declined to discuss Beckham’s celebration, other than to say that he dislikes the penalty forcing his team to kick off from the 20-yard line.

Crown Bank sues Adrian Peterson over $2.4 million loan

Minneapolis-based Crown Bank is suing former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, claiming Peterson defaulted on a loan and still owes $600,000.

According to the lawsuit, Peterson borrowed $2.4 million in May 2016 but defaulted in October of the same year. Under a forbearance agreement with Crown, he paid back most of the loan and has asked for more time. In the lawsuit, the bank says Peterson “failed to comply with Crown Bank’s demands," so it's seeking the rest of what's owed, plus interest.

What a can of worms...

I believe that the NFL players will very soon agree that displays of civil disobedience during the national anthem (which is what we are talking about) will end because it has proved to be counter-productive to the message they players were trying to send.

However, I also think players will continue to look for opportunities to "express themselves" and "exercise their first amendment rights" during the game.  How long do you think it will be until we get a black power salute instead of a touchdown dance?

I hope Roger Goodell and the NFL Players Association can figure out how to keep politics off the TV broadcasts or they are going to piss off a lot of people.

This one will be fun to watch.  If he wins, he could blow everything up.  The owners better hope there is no paper or private message email trail to suggest they explicitly blackballed him.

Kaepernick hopes to invalidate the CBA through collusion grievance

Free-agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick has filed a grievance against the NFL alleging collusion in relation to his ongoing unemployment. Eventually, we’ll explain what he needs to prove, and what he doesn’t need to prove, in order to show that collusion occurred. For now, let’s focus on what he wants to do.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Kaepernick wants to trigger termination of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Article 69, Section 2 of the CBA allows for the agreement to be terminated prematurely in the event of proof of collusion. Under Article 17, Section 16(c) of the CBA, termination can arise from only one incident of collusion involving only one player if there is clear and convincing evidence of a violation.

The ramifications would be enormous, and historical. Kaepernick could give all players a tremendous piece of leverage, moving up the expiration of the contract by more than three years and forcing the owners back to the bargaining table.

Former NFL player Sean Gilbert proposed, in connection with his effort to become the NFLPA’s executive director, the potential termination of the CBA in early 2015, based on collusion arising from the funding rule applicable to guaranteed contracts. Gilbert did not win, and the collusion case was never filed.

Curry fined $50K, avoids suspension for mouth-guard toss :taz:

 :coffee: ......
Stephen Curry has been fined $50,000 by the NBA but will not receive a game suspension for throwing his mouthguard in the direction of an official during Saturday's Warriors loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, the league announced Monday.

The $50,000 fine is the maximum allowed per league rules based on that action.

His Golden State Warriors teammate Andre Iguodala was also fined $15,000 for verbally abusing an official.

Curry was ejected after the incident, but has maintained he didn't deliberately throw the item at the ref. It's not the first time he's been fined for this - he was dinged $25,000 for tossing a mouth guard into the stands during the 2016 NBA Finals. :bonk:

Kevin Durant, who was also ejected from the Memphis game, will apparently receive no fine for flashing a finger at a fan - a digit he correctly pointed out was his ring finger, not his middle one.

:reporter; Giants suspend Janoris Jenkins for violation of team rules!

  .....
When the New York Giants return in Week 9 to take on the Los Angeles Rams at MetLife Stadium, they will be without cornerback Janoris Jenkins.

Kim Jones of NFL Network reports that Jenkins has been suspended at least one game for a violation of team rules. :banghead:

What rules Jenkins is alleged to have violated is unclear, but he was not with the team when they returned to East Rutherford on Monday. However, after practice, head coach Ben McAdoo said that Jenkins and a handful of others had been excused for personal reasons and were expected to return on Wednesday.

"We had a few guys that were excused for personal reasons today," McAdoo told reporters. "Jackrabbit was one of them. Eli Apple. Paul Perkins."

Jenkins was informed of his suspension on Tuesday.  :angry2:

"As a member of this team, there are standards and we have responsibilities and obligations," McAdoo said via Giants.com. "When we don't fulfill those obligations, there are consequences. As I have said before, we do not like to handle our team discipline publicly. There are times when it is unavoidable, and this is one of those times."

McAdoo added that the suspension will be reviewed when the team returns in Week 10.

Jenkins' suspension comes mere weeks after fellow cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie was suspended indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. He missed only one game, but had his defensive snaps reduced significantly upon return.

McAdoo has said DRC's snap reduction had nothing to do with additional discipline, but the veteran cornerback later implied that it did. :tut:

I've never seen a NFL player, team, or owner protest domestic violence, child abuse, animal abuse, rape, or murder. Have you? Ray Rice knocked his girlfriend out cold in a elevator. Remember that? No one protested his return to the league after a two game suspension. Two games! Everyone knows about Mike Vick. Multimillionaire who fought dogs to their deaths in his backyard...to make a little extra cash?? I never remember a team, owner, manager, or player protesting that. Do you? What about Adrian Peterson? Remember when he beat his child so badly it broke the skin on the back of his legs? I don't remember Kaepernick sitting down for that one, do you? What about Ben RAPEthlisburger who cornered a girl in a bathroom at Georgia College in Milledgeville and got his bodyguard to watch the door while he raped her in the bathroom? I don't remember the Steelers protesting that one, do you? What about O.J. Simpson? He killed two people, nearly decapitating his ex-wife, but the NFL still shows highlights of "The Juice" running his way into their hall of fame. Funny how this works, isn't it? Remember "L.T."? Yeah, if you were an 80s kid like me you probably remember Lawrence Taylor. He was a crackhead who liked to party with 16 year old girls. I don't remember anyone protesting his behavior. Do you? How many people out there remember Lawrence Phillips? Google him. It will blow your mind. Anyone remember Mark Gastineau? Notorious wife-beater piece of garbage. No protests against him that I can remember. But all of the sudden, NFL players are the moral compass for our country? I DON'T THINK SO!

GQ names Kaepernick ‘Citizen of the Year’

 :doah: You say what

 :reporter; .....I said.....
Colin Kaepernick has been named GQ's 2017 "Citizen of the Year."

GQ referred to Crapppernick as "the man who became the movement."  and here it comes :moon:

 :coffee: ....
"Much has changed in the four years since Colin Kaepernick was last on the cover of GQ. Back then he was a rippling superhero of a quarterback on the rise," the magazine wrote.

"But a simple act - kneeling during the national anthem - changed everything. It cost him his job. It also transformed Colin Kaepernick into a lightning rod and a powerful symbol of activism and resistance." :taz:

Kaepernick in 2016 became the first NFL player to take a knee during the national anthem before games. He said he was protesting police brutality and racial injustice. :doofus:

Earlier this year, the issue was thrust back into the spotlight after President Trump attacked NFL players who kneel during the anthem. Following the president's comments, multiple players began taking a knee when the anthem played ahead of their games and several coaches spoke out against Trump's remarks.

Trump then called for the NFL to implement a rule requiring that players stand during the anthem, saying their actions were disrespectful to the flag and the country's soldiers.

Last month, Kaepernick signed a book deal, reportedly worth just more than $1 million. :puke:

Kaepernick also recently filed a grievance against NFL owners, accusing them of colluding to keep him out of the league in retaliation for his outspoken views on social justice. :tut:

NFL suspends Panthers DE Johnson 4 games under drug policy :tut:

 :reporter; ....
Johnson released a statement through the team's website saying he accepts full responsibility.

 :coffee:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) The Panthers will be without starting defensive end Charles Johnson for this Sunday's pivotal NFC showdown with the New Orleans Saints.

Johnson, an 11-year veteran, has been suspended without pay for the team's next four games for violating the NFL policy on performance enhancing substances. The NFL announced the suspension Friday.

Johnson's suspension begins immediately. He's eligible to return to the Panthers' active roster on Dec. 25.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera said the suspension is disappointing.

He said Julius Peppers will start in Johnson's spot and Bryan Cox Jr. will work into the defensive line rotation.

''I accept full responsibility,'' Johnson said in a statement. ''I have been recovering from back surgery, dealing with the daily grind of football and mistakenly thought this could help. It was an error in judgment on my part. We have a special group here I wanted to be a part of and felt an obligation to do my part by getting back as soon as possible. I have always prided myself on being a person who does things the right way through hard work, dedication and sacrifice. I want to apologize to my team, (owner) Mr. (Jerry) Richardson and Panthers fans for this mistake. Regretfully I have disappointed people, but I promise to come back ready to redeem myself when this suspension is over.''

It's the first time Johnson has been suspended.

Wide receiver Damiere Byrd, who has spent the last eight games on injured reserve, will take Johnson's spot on the 53-man roster. Byrd is expected to help fill the void left by wide receiver Curtis Samuel.

The Panthers were already dealing with the prospect of being without a few starters against the Saints.

Rivera has still not made a decision on whether running back Christian McCaffrey (shoulder), Greg Olsen (foot) and linebacker Thomas Davis (hamstring) will play against the Saints while recovering from injuries. Those could be game-time decisions.

Watch: Rob Gronkowski throws cheap shot at Tre’Davious White.

 :doah: ......
Rob Gronkowski threw a cheap shot at a Buffalo Bills defender late in Sunday’s game, and it could result in the New England Patriots tight end being fined or worse in advance of Week 14.

  .....
Gronkowski appeared to be frustrated :banghead: after Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White grabbed him a few times on the previous play, which resulted in an interception thrown by Tom Brady. :doah: After White went to the ground and was touched by a Patriots defender, Gronk came in late with a spear. Check it out:

 :angry2: ......
Gronk can try to argue :taz: that he didn’t know  White had been touched, but that’s still pretty egregious. There’s no need to drive your shoulder into a player who is laying on the ground like that. A fine is almost a certainty, and it wouldn’t be a shock if Gronkowski is suspended for a game.

:reporter; .. Wilkerson not traveling with Jets due to: :banghead:

           :taz: extreme tardiness!
:doah:

 :coffee: ......
The New York Jets are traveling to New Orleans this weekend without two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Mo Wilkerson due to a “coach’s decision.”

  .....
Now we know a bit more about why head coach Todd Bowles is leaving Wilkerson behind. According to Darryl Slater and Connor Hughes of NJ Advanced Media, Wilkerson isn’t traveling with the Jets because he was late for a team meeting on Friday.

 :tut: .....
“A source told NJ Advance Media’s Connor Hughes that the reason is this: Wilkerson arrived late to Friday morning’s team meeting. Tardiness continues to be an issue for him, and it now looks likelier that the Jets will decide to part ways with him after this season.”

And according to Ralph Vacchiano of SNY, it wasn’t just a few minutes late, either.

The Jets can save $11 million by cutting Wilkerson this offseason. The 28-year-old signed an $86 million extension in July 2016 after racking up 28.5 sacks in his previous three seasons.

However, since then his performance hasn’t lived up to that high price tag. And behavioral issues have continued to plague him at a time when he’s supposed to be in his prime.

There are also reports out there that the Jets think Wilkerson takes plays off. :doah:

It’s widely believed he’ll be either cut or traded before the 2018 season begins. Though, given his gargantuan contract, it’s hard to believe another team would be willing to part with draft picks to land him at this point.

Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis will be suspended for his head shot on Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams during Sunday’s game, the NFL announced on Monday.

  ....
Thomas targeted Adams’s head after a turnover in Carolina’s win over Green Bay, and the wide receiver ended up leaving the game with a concussion.

  ...
It’s interesting that Davis got hit with a two-game ban, as Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster was suspended one game earlier this month  for a similar illegal block.  Bucs bench RB Doug Martin vs. Falcons for rules violation, report says

The Buccaneers suspended running back Doug Martin for Monday night's game against the Falcons due to a "minor" undisclosed rules violation, according to NFL.com.

MORE: Bucs' Jameis Winston fined $12K for poking Saints' Marshon Lattimore | Buccaneers' Mike Evans suspended 1 game for Marshon Lattimore hit

Doug MartinMartin is averaging just 3.1 yards per carry while rushing for 402 yards through nine games this season. He also missed the season's first four games serving a suspension for violating the league's drug policy. Though Martin is Tampa Bay's leading rusher, he has scored just three total touchdowns this season.

Peyton Barber will start in Martin's absence, with Jacquizz Rodgers backing him up. The Buccaneers, last in the NFC South, have lost three straight games.

New York Jets WR Robby Anderson arrested. (again) :doah:  :banghead:

 Updated Jan 20, 2018

 :tut:
Jets second-year breakout WR Robby Anderson is in trouble again.
Anderson was arrested early Friday morning in Sunrise, Fla. on a plethora of charges, both felony and misdemeanor in nature.

 :police: ......
The police report, obtained by NJ Advance Media, lists nine different charges against Anderson: felony fleeing and eluding police with lights and sirens active; felony threatening a public servant/family; misdemeanor resisting arrest without violence; misdemeanor reckless driving; failure to drive in a single lane; disobeying/avoiding a red light (second count); exceeding speed limit by 50 MPH or more; and turning when unsafe/without signaling.

Anderson was clocked going 105 MPH in a 45 MPH zone through two red lights and was "all over the roadway," according to the report filed by arresting officer Jonathan B. Hennessy. Once Anderson was placed in handcuffs and put in the back of Hennessy's car, the Jets' wideout verbally abused :mad1: the police officer, making vulgar threats about finding Hennessy's wife and having sex with her. :doah:

:police: ...."Based on his statements, it was clear that he intended to sexually assault my wife," Hennessy wrote in the report.

Anderson, 24, was arrested last May at a Florida music festival :rocker; and charged with a felony count of resisting arrest with violence training-087 and obstruction of justice. The police report indicated he was fighting training-087 with security and a police officer after he was ordered to leave the festival. :tut:

The former Temple star and 2016 undrafted free agent, Anderson was one of the Jets' biggest success stories last season, when he caught 63 balls for 943 yards and seven touchdowns. Mostly a deep threat as a rookie, Anderson showed marked improvement by having success against the opposition's top corner and expanding his route tree and productivity at all levels of the field.

Indeed, Anderson has flashed No. 1 wideout ability, but not dependability. The Jets drafted three pass catchers last spring — wide receivers ArDarius Stewart (Round 3), Chad Hansen (Round 4) and TE Jordan Leggett, none of whom made an early impact on offense.

Gang Green had more success catching lightning in a bottle with Anderson, Jermaine Kearse, whom they acquired in a trade in exchange for Sheldon Richardson, and TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins, the former Bucs' second-rounder who turned over a new leaf after multiple substance-related  :smoking: suspensions and flourished in his fresh start.

But Anderson, the club's leading receiver last season, was the team's most dangerous playmaker. His progress is now threatened by a potential suspension.

Patriots' Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler benched due to weed and women

New England Patriots cornerback, and one-time Super Bowl hero, Malcolm Butler didn't play Sunday night in the team’s loss against the Philadelphia Eagles due to team violations involving women and weed, a former teammate said.

Butler, who played in nearly 98 percent of the Patriots’ defensive snaps during the season, was shockingly benched during the Patriots' Super Bowl LII loss to the Eagles for what was initially reported as a “perfect storm of issues.”

Butler's former teammate on the Patriots, Brandon Browner, took to Instagram to defend him, writing "he not the first to get caught with weed...curfew also meant we are not allowed to have guest especially women."

:reporter; Reuben Foster arrested on domestic violence charges. :whistling:

                What who me!

 :coffee: ......
San Francisco 49ers linebacker was arrested Sunday on domestic violence charges.
According to Sarah Ravani and Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle, Foster was booked Sunday at the Santa Clara County Jail and held without bail. A source said that the arrest was related to domestic violence, but there are few specifics at this point.

This is Foster’s second arrest within a month, :doah: as he was detained on Jan. 12 in Alabama and charged with second-degree marijuana possession.

Foster continues to be plagued by off-field issues. The 49ers were rewarded for taking a chance on him on the field, as he was second on the team with 72 tackles. However, they were able to land him in the first place because of character issues, including a failed drug test at the NFL Combine.

These charges, however, appear much more serious than those incidents were. :tut:

She said he had been drinking heavily. Smith shared a cryptic photo on Instagram Sunday amid reports that police were searching for him.

Smith missed the entire 2016 and 2017 seasons while serving a suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy and a number of other things. He was released by the Oakland Raiders on Monday. :violin:

Twins shortstop Jorge Polanco suspended 80 games and postseason for violating drug policy

 :coffee: .........
Jorge Polanco has been suspended 80 games after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. :bonk: The commissioner's office announced the penalty Sunday, March 18. Polanco tested positive for Stanozolol.

 :reporter;
FORT MYERS, FLA. – Jorge Polanco’s strong second half of last season was one reason why the Twins made the playoffs for the first time since 2010.

A return to the playoffs will have to be done without him — for about half of the upcoming season.  :tut: And forget about him participating if the Twins do play in October.

Polanco, 24, was suspended 80 games for violating Major League Baseball’s drug policy. He tested positive for the drug stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance. If that sounds familiar, there’s a good reason why. Righthander Ervin Santana served the same suspension for testing positive for the same substance in 2015, only a few months after he signed with the Twins as their most expensive free agent ever.

Polanco will experience the same fate. He won’t be eligible to play until June 30 against the MIGHTY! Cubs in Chicago. And he is ineligible for postseason play.

Polanco was not available for comment Sunday — he will meet with reporters Monday — but released a statement through the Major League Baseball Players Association.

“Today, I have regretfully accepted my 80-game suspension for testing positive for stanozolol,” Polanco said. “To be clear, I did not intentionally consume this steroid. I now know, however, that my intention alone is not a good enough excuse and I will pay the price for my error in judgment.”

Stanozolol became well-known during the 1988 Seoul Olympics, when Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson tested positive for it and was stripped of his medals. Santana’s positive test occurred during a period in which a handful of players were caught using stanozolol, one of 74 performance-enhancing drugs on MLB’s list of banned substances. At least two minor leaguers have tested positive for the substance since the beginning of 2018.

In his statement, Polanco argued that he was unaware  of how the substance got into his system, similar to Santana’s defense.

“The substance that I requested from my athletic trainer in the Dominican Republic and consented to take was a combination of vitamin B12 and an iron supplement, something that is not unusual or illegal for professional athletes to take,” Polanco said. “Unfortunately, what I was given was not that supplement, and I take full responsibility for what is in my body.

“Every bone in my body wants to appeal this suspension but out of respect for Derek Falvey, Thad Levine, Paul Molitor, my coaches, my teammates, and the entire Twins organization, I have decided to withdraw my request to appeal and will begin serving my suspension immediately. My hope is that through this extremely disappointing situation other players will learn from my mistake.”

Polanco played a key role in the Twins postseason run last year, batting .318 with an impressive .913 on base-plus-slugging percentage over the final 54 games of the regular season. He finished the season with a .256 batting average, 13 home runs and 74 RBI. Polanco looks to be coming into his own as a player, especially as a hitter. And he is part of a group of developing Twins hitters who looked to be part of a productive offense this season.

 :doah: ...
“We were disappointed to learn of the suspension of Jorge Polanco for violating Major League Baseball’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program,” the Twins said in a released statement. “We fully support Major League Baseball’s policy and its efforts to eliminate performance enhancing substances from our game. Per the protocol outlined in the Joint Drug Program, the Minnesota Twins will not comment further on this matter.”

Polanco’s first game back would be June 30 at Wrigley Field. He will miss eight games against defending AL Central Division champion Cleveland, all six games of the season series against the Angels, four home games against the Yankees and two games against the Astros, the defending World Series champions. He will be allowed to begin a minor league assignment as he nears reinstatement.

Eduardo Escobar started at shortstop for the Twins on Sunday, going 0-for-3. He looms as a potential replacement for Polanco, as does utilityman Ehire Adrianza, who might be more suited for the position.

Top prospect Nick Gordon batted .409 in 13 games during camp. The Twins cut him Sunday despite learning of the suspension during the day, but he moves up the list of options, especially if there is an injury or if someone underperforms.

Veteran Erick Aybar also is in camp, trying to stick around as a utility player. Polanco’s suspension increases Aybar’s chances of landing on the Opening Day roster. But it’s wise to remember another reason Aybar could make the team:

The Twins await word from MLB on any possible suspension of third baseman Miguel Sano based on allegations that he assaulted local photographer Betsy Bissen following a public appearance at a memorabilia store at the Ridgedale Mall in Minnetonka in October of 2015. Bissen shared her story on social media in December, prompting the league to investigate. A decision could come before Opening Day.

So there’s a chance the Twins will be without the left side of their projected starting infield March 29 when they open the season at Baltimore while Polanco and, possibly, Sano, serve suspensions.

“I hope that those who have believed in me, those within the Twins organization, my teammates, and the fans in Minnesota and in the Dominican Republic will accept my sincere apology,” Polanco said in the statement. “I will continue to train hard every day in the hopes of being able to contribute to winning baseball games with the Twins later this year.”

Ex-MLB player Albert Belle arrested for extreme DUI, indecent exposure :doah:

 :reporter; ..
3/25/18

Former MLB player Albert Belle was arrested on Sunday in Scottsdale on suspicion of DUI and indecent exposure, according to a report.

Matt Rodewald of FOX in Phoenix reported Sunday night that the former Cleveland Indians slugger was arrested for two counts of indecent exposure, one count of DUI and one count of extreme DUI. The arrest reportedly took place during a spring training game in Scottsdale.
Belle, 51, was a five-time All-Star who led the league in RBIs three times during his 12-year career. He was known for being a hot-head during his career and having a surly relationship with the media. He was once suspended for using a corked bat and having a teammate try to sneak into the umpire’s room to replace the evidence. He also had an infamous incident when he trucked Fernando Vina on the bases.
Our last post on Belle was in 2012 and noted how much weight he’d put on. That was apparent in his mug shot.

      Only three felonies!

4/12/18

 :coffee: ....
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Reuben Foster has been charged with felony domestic violence, prosecutors announced today.

  .....
“Foster, 24, physically attacked the 28-year-old woman during a February argument at their Los Gatos home, leaving her bruised and with a ruptured ear drum,” the Santa Clara District Attorney’s office said in a statement.

So, how do ya like Foster now......
Prosecutors charged Foster with one felony for that violent act, another felony for forcefully attempting to prevent the victim from reporting the crime, and a third felony for possessing an assault weapon. Foster is also charged with a misdemeanor for possessing a large capacity magazine. The charges could carry up to 11 years in prison.

The 49ers drafted Foster in the first round last year despite questions about character issues :bonk: that had some teams reportedly taking him off their draft boards. Team owner Jed York was noncommittal last month about whether Foster has a future with the team. Foster will also be subject to league discipline, with the NFL conducting its own investigation that could find him in violation of the league’s personal conduct policy even if he is acquitted.

I'm no Legal Eagle, but you'd think professional athlete types can usually plead one felony charge down to a misdemeanor if they promise to seek counseling and do public service announcements.  But if the prosecutor is charging him with three, is this a message that they want at least one of them to stick as a felony?

Eagles release CB Daryl Worley after arrest!

4/16/18

 :reporter; ....
The Eagles released cornerback Daryl Worley after he was arrested early Sunday morning, the team announced.

  .....
The cornerback was tased and arrested in Philadelphia after a dispute with authorities, NFL Insider Ian Rapoport reported.
According to the report, the incident occurred at 6 a.m. ET after Worley "became combative training-087 with police." Rapoport added that Worley was "found passed out inside a vehicle blocking a highway" and "a gun was recovered at the scene." :tut:

NFL Network's Mike Garafolo noted the incident took place near the team facility.
The Eagles released a statement later Sunday confirming they "are in the process of gathering more information about Daryl Worley's arrest this morning."

Worley, 23, was selected by the Panthers in the third round of the 2016 NFL Draft but was traded to the Eagles for wide receiver Torrey Smith last month.
A Philadelphia native, Worley recorded 63 tackles and a career-high two interceptions in 14 starts for Carolina last season. :moon:

Cowboys' Gregory suspended indefinitely in 4th ban from NFL

  When is Enough ....Enough!

 ......here we go again! :banghead:
Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory was suspended indefinitely Tuesday for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy, the fourth time the troubled player has been banned by the league.

 :bonk: .......
The suspension comes about seven months after Gregory was reinstated by Commissioner Roger Goodell following a lengthy process aimed at reviving his career. Gregory missed 30 of the 32 games over two seasons as a result of his first three suspensions.
Gregory had his best year in 2018, posting career highs with six sacks and 14 games. He was reinstated just before the start of training camp last year and was active for the season opener.

While suspensions in the most advanced stage of the league's substance-abuse policy are at least a year, it wasn't immediately clear how long the 26-year-old Gregory's latest ban would be.

His previous suspension was a yearlong ban, and Gregory waited several months beyond that to submit his case to Goodell in hopes of improving his chances. Several teammates wrote letters supporting Gregory's bid. :lipsrsealed:

The Cowboys declined to comment on Gregory's latest suspension, and one of his representatives didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

As with the yearlong ban, Gregory won't be allowed to participate in the Cowboys' offseason program. He can only go to the team's practice facility to meet with the person in charge of his treatment. :happy1:

Gregory slid to the Cowboys late in the second round of the 2015 draft after testing positive for marijuana at the NFL combine. The former Nebraska standout was considered one of the best pass rushers in his draft, and there was promise early with a strong rookie training camp. :doah:

After vowing  to owner and general manager Jerry Jones that he could control his issues with marijuana, Gregory only made it through one season. He didn't have a sack as a rookie while missing four games with an ankle injury.

The first suspension, a four-game ban, was announced in February 2016, and he was away from the team during training camp while in rehab. A 10-game suspension came seven months later. Gregory remained with the team while missing those 14 games before playing in the final two games of the 2016 season.
Gregory's yearlong suspension was announced during Dallas' two-week break between the end of the 2016 regular season and a divisional playoff loss to Green Bay. He missed all of 2017.

NFL cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones in jail after arrest at an Indiana casino.

 :coffee: ....
NFL cornerback Adam 'Pacman' Jones was in an Indiana jail Wednesday morning, according to jail records.

Jones, 35, was booked into the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center at 3:10 a.m.

 :police: ......
According to other media reports, Jones was arrested at Rising Sun Casino.

It is unclear why Jones was arrested, but jail records state he has an "out of county" warrant. :banghead:

Jones, who turned 35 at the end of September, signed with the Denver Broncos in late August. He became a free agent at the start of the new league year after the Cincinnati Bengals announced they declined an option in his contract for the 2018 season.

He played seven games with the Broncos before he was released in November.

Jones has spent the majority of his career in the NFL with the Bengals - from 2010 to 2017.

Jones has had a number of run-ins with law enforcement, (No Way) :rotflmao: particularly in Cincinnati. In 2017, a series of videos showed him verbally arguing with police in the streets of Downtown. In court, he was fined for obstructing official business.

Former Ravens running back Alex Collins is facing weapons and marijuana charges after an arrest in Baltimore on Friday.

Baltimore County Police announced that Collins is charged with possession with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana in excess of 10 grams, and possessing a handgun in a vehicle.

Police say they responded to a 911 call of a car crashed into a tree to find Collins sleeping at the wheel. Police say they could smell marijuana, and searched the car to find approximately 5 ounces of marijuana and a handgun. Neither Collins nor his passenger was injured.

Collins told police he also had marijuana and guns in his home, and police executed a search warrant and seized marijuana, two rifles and ammunition.

Collins was released from jail on a $7,500 bond about 15 hours after he was arrested. The Ravens waived Collins while he was still in jail.

Although Collins has shown enough promise in his three-year NFL career that some team would likely be interested in him, these charges are going to make it harder for him to catch on elsewhere. He is probably facing an NFL suspension before he plays again. :tut:

Former NFL defensive lineman Saousoalii “Junior” Siavii has been charged with federal firearms possession after an arrest Saturday in Independence, Missouri.

According to KCTV 5 News, police approached Siavill after a witness identified him as the driver of a stolen 2017 Jeep Wrangler Sport. Siavii allegedly disregarded commands and was tasered by officers. In trying to subdue Siavii, a handgun fell to the ground and was removed from the incident location by officials.

Siavii was tasered a second time without success :doah: before he was restrained by his neck until he briefly became unconscious. Upon regaining his consciousness, Siavii again tried to resist  despite being handcuffed.

A search of Siavii’s backpack revealed ammunition, methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia. It was the third time Siavii has been arrested in the last five months in similar events involving guns and drugs.

He has been charged with three counts of being an unlawful drug user in possession of firearms.

Siavii played parts of four seasons in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs, Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks. He was a second-round pick of the Chiefs in the 2004 NFL Draft.

Suspended Browns RB Hunt won't be with team during ban :tut:

 :happy1: .....
CLEVELAND (AP) -- Kareem Hunt will have to spend his NFL suspension isolated from his team. :moon:

 :coffee: ......
The suspended Browns running back, who must serve an eight-game ban for physical altercations, will not be permitted inside the team's facility starting Saturday at 4 p.m., league spokesman Brian McCarthy said Wednesday in an email to The Associated Press.

The team had asked Commissioner Roger Goodell to allow Hunt to be around his teammates, arguing he could use the extra support. :pouty: But to this point, Hunt will not be able to interact with his teammates or staff inside the team's building in Berea, Ohio, until his punishment ends in November. :tut:

It's not impossible the league could adjust its policy and amend its stance on Hunt, who was signed as a free agent by Cleveland in March, three months after being released by the Kansas City Chiefs. But to this point, he's going to be on his own. :happy1:

 :angry2:
Hunt was suspended for two violent off-field incidents, one in which he shoved and kicked a woman during a dispute in a hotel hallway. He's eligible to return to the team in November.

Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was disappointed to learn Hunt won't be present. :embarrassed:

"It hurts him not to be around there because if you can be around your teammates, that can help you keep a positive attitude, and that definitely helps," Mayfield said. "So that's tough to hear." :bs:

The 24-year-old Hunt has been practicing and playing in preseason games, and the 2017 league rushing champion is expected to be on the field Thursday night when the Browns host the Detroit Lions in their exhibition finale.

Hunt has been attending counseling sessions and said earlier this month that if he couldn't be with his teammates he would "chill out, get good workouts and lay low."

Although Hunt will have to stay away from the Browns, wide receiver Antonio Callaway will be allowed in the facility while serving his four-game suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. :doah:

Callaway was suspended earlier this month during training camp. He won't be eligible to return until the Oct. 7 game at San Francisco. Callaway owned up to his mistake, which followed a run of off-field issues while he was in college.

On Tuesday, Browns coach Freddie Kitchens said he hoped Callaway would be allowed to be with his teammates. :violin:

"If we were in fact able to do it, one of the good reasons will be because Antonio is recovering from an ankle injury," Kitchens said. "To make sure that he gets the proper medical care and treatment, that would benefit the person as much as anything."

Ex-NFL player shares how many gay players he thinks are in the league.

 :coffee: ....
Former NFL offensive lineman Ryan O’Callaghan is one of very few football players who came out as gay after retiring, and he says the amount who have shared their stories is not a good representation of how many gay players there are in the league.

  ...
O’Callaghan, who has a book coming out on Sept. 3 called ““My Life on the Line: How the NFL Damn Near Killed Me and Ended Up Saving My Life,” told the Thomas Reuters Foundation this week that gay and bisexual players who are currently playing in the NFL reach out to him regularly. He estimated that there is at least one closeted player on every NFL roster.

 :tut: ....
“I can promise you there’s plenty of closeted NFL players,” O’Callaghan said. “I think it’s safe to say there’s at least one on every team who is either gay or bisexual. A lot of guys still see it as potentially having a negative impact on their career.”  :pouty:

As someone who kept his sexual orientation a secret while playing for the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs from 2006-2011, O’Callaghan understands why gay players would be afraid to come out to their teammates and coaches. He said the non-guaranteed structure of NFL contracts makes it so players who aren’t straight can be discriminated against. :angry2:

“I just don’t think people understand the reality,” O’Callaghan said. “We can still get fired for being gay or denied services for being trans.”

O’Callaghan believes the only thing that will “really make a difference” is if a high-profile player who is currently playing comes out. The NFL has yet to see an openly gay player on the field. We have had superstar NFL players publicly support O’Callaghan and others for coming out, but players obviously still fear the potential backlash of coming out during their careers.

Patriots cut WR Brown after latest allegations :tut:

After the latest allegations against Antonio Brown - he contacted a woman who made an anonymous allegation of sexual impropriety against him in a Sports Illustrated story - the New England Patriots have released him.

A couple of minutes later, NFL Network reported he had been released.

On Thursday night, Sports Illustrated reporter Robert Klemko posted a story that he’d been contacted by the artist who alleges that Brown made sexual advances toward her in 2017, including approaching her fully naked and with only a small towel covering his penis as she painted a mural in his Pittsburgh-area home.

In group text messages that include the woman, some Brown associates and his lawyer, Darren Heitner, Brown posts pictures of the woman’s children and her Instagram account, telling the lackeys, “let’s look up her background history see how broke this girl is.”

The woman has not sought money from Brown, and in a letter to the NFL, her attorney Lisa J. Banks said she has no intention of seeking money from Brown for his sexual misconduct.

The lawyer wrote to the league on her client’s behalf hoping to put an end to the text messages, “which are clearly intended to threaten and intimidate her.”

The NFL responded to Banks’ letter within an hour of receiving it, arranging for a call between league investigators and the artist’s attorney.

Brown had become acquainted with the woman because she painted a portrait of him that was part of a charity auction; Brown, who agreed to take part in the auction and softball game benefitting National Youth Foundation, a Pennsylvania-based group, had topped the winning bidder in order to get the portrait of himself.

Then with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Brown approached the woman about painting a mural in his home; they agreed on a fee of $1,000 a day, and Brown sent a bus to New York City to bring her and some of his associates to Pittsburgh.

The woman said Brown began flirting with her on the first day she was there, but on the second day she turned around to find Brown standing behind her, naked save for the small hand towel.

Brown did pay her for two days’ work but then “ghosted” her, ceasing further contact.

The National Youth Foundation said Brown has not paid the $700 he bid for the portrait of him at the auction two years ago.

On September 10, a woman who had worked with Brown as a personal trainer filed a lawsuit against him in federal court, alleging that he forcibly raped her after two other incidents of sexual assault. The trainer stopped working with Brown after the first two incidents of assault, but after several months he apologized and asked to work with her again; it was after that point he allegedly raped her.

Pro Football Rumors
Steelers linebacker Anthony Chickillo arrested, facing assault charges

Let's just wait & see ........

 :coffee: .....
Chickillo has been charged with simple assault, criminal mischief and harassment. A source told WTAE that the incident involved Chickillo’s girlfriend, so it’s a domestic violence issue. A Steelers spokesperson told the news channel “we are aware of an incident involving Anthony Chickillo last night and are still gathering information. Until we have further details we will not provide any further comments.”

 :coffee: ....

It’s possible Chickillo will be placed on the commissioner’s exempt list since it’s a domestic violence incident, and he could be slapped with a minimum six-game ban if the league’s investigation finds him at fault. Chickillo was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the sixth-round back in 2015. After playing out his rookie deal, he signed a two-year, $8MM deal to remain with the team this past March.

  .....
Last season Chickillo played around 28 percent of the team’s defensive snaps while also being a core special teamer. He missed three games earlier this year with a foot injury, returning for their Week 6 win over the Chargers and notching a half-sack. We’ll keep you posted when we hear more on the situation.

Ex-NFL player Winslow Jr takes  :bs: plea deal before rape retrial :doah:

 :reporter;

 :coffee: ........
VISTA, Calif. (AP) — Former NFL player Kellen Winslow Jr. pleaded guilty Monday to raping an unconscious teen in 2003 and to sexual battery involving a 54-year-old hitchhiker in a deal that spared him the possibility of life in prison.

Winslow initially hesitated and seemed to agonize over his decision. :undecided:

"I'm sorry. I'm just not thinking very clearly," Winslow told the judge at one point.  :violin:

  ......
He asked the judge for more time before he finally entered the guilty pleas moments before he was about to be retried on six felonies including kidnapping, sodomy, forced oral copulation and two charges of forcible rape in San Diego County Superior Court that could have sent him to prison for life if he was convicted.

 :tut: .....
In exchange for his plea, the court agreed to sentence him to between 12 and 18 years in prison for the two charges and dismiss the others. :doah:

In June, a jury found him guilty of raping a homeless woman in Encinitas, north of San Diego. Jurors also convicted him of two misdemeanors -- indecent exposure and a lewd act in public -- involving two other women. :mad1:

But that jury failed to agree on other charges, including the alleged rape of the hitchhiker and the rape of the unconscious 17-year-old girl in 2003 when he was 19. Under the plea deal, the attack on the hitchhiker was reduced to sexual battery.

The 36-year-old former tight end -- at one point one of the highest-paid in the NFL -- had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges. His attorney, Gretchen von Helms, had said the sex was consensual.

Five women took the witness stand this summer, and three of them were expected to testify again. :happy1:

Prosecutor Dan Owens said outside of the courtroom that the women were brave to want to testify again but that he was glad they would not have to put themselves through that again.

"Each of these victims, they didn't try to come out here in order to try to frame Mr. Winslow," Owens said "The fact that they had that courage to come forward and speak with law enforcement and to testify to all the things that he had done while facing all these cameras, I think it was important to me to make sure that that truth was heard, and it was important to me to make sure that he was held accountable for each one of those crimes." :angry2:

Defense attorneys attacked the credibility of the five women and pointed out inconsistencies in their stories in the first trial.

The court had planned to allow the new jury to hear that Winslow was convicted of raping the homeless woman, who would have been among those testifying again.

Jurors would also have been told about the indecent exposure conviction, though that woman was not expected to take the stand.

Winslow, who played for Cleveland, Tampa Bay, New England and the New York Jets, earned more than $40 million over 10 seasons in the NFL. He is the son of Chargers Hall of Fame receiver Kellen Winslow, who was in the courtroom throughout the first trial and on Monday.

Winslow Jr. repeatedly looked back at his father before entering his plea. As he left the courtroom Monday, he reached an arm out to his father, who responded by touching his fist to his heart.

Winslow's attorneys said he suffers from traumatic brain injury from his football playing and a motorcycle accident that ended his career.

They will argue that information should be taken into consideration at his sentencing hearing. :bs:

:doah: Injured Cowboys DL Daniel Ross arrested on drug, gun charges :bonk:

  :moon: ........
Cowboys defensive lineman Daniel Ross won’t play this season after being placed on injured reserve in August because of a shoulder injury and any future availability may be impacted by a suspension :happy1:

 :police:....
Ross was arrested on Wednesday morning in Frisco, Texas. The Frisco police department said, via Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, that Ross was arrested after a traffic stop for possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Ross initially signed with the Cowboys in 2017 to fill the roster opening created by running back Ezekiel Elliott‘s suspension.

He played in three games that year and returned to appear in 13 games during the 2018 season. He has 19 tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble over the course of his career.

5 Reasons Why 80% Of Retired NFL Players Go Broke.

1)Lack of competent financial planning advice--Athletes are no different than any other college grads in that they were not trained as undergrads in budgeting, the tax system, and long term financial planning.

2)Supporting a village--Some athletes feel obliged to provide financial support to family, extended family and friends.

3)Divorce--Often cited as the number one challenge, divorce drains funds in legal fees and dissipates assets.

4)Lack of awareness of how rapidly a career can end--The athlete forgets that the current rate of compensation is not going to last and can be terminated by injury or skill at any point. Spending habits assume the revenue will be coming forever.

5)Lack of preparation for second career--NFL players have long off seasons they can use to lay the foundation for their life after football.

OK, so I get all that innocent until proven guilty stuff.  And there are WAY too many schiesters out there who will fabricate stories to get a settlement based on he-said/she-said.

All seven [of the latest] lawsuits allege the women were contacted by Watson via Instagram.  It will be tough for him to dispute knowing the women in court, unless his defense will be that his Insta was hacked.

He has the entire Texans training facility at his disposal if he needs therapeutic treatments.  But if he prefers a hot masseuse, pick ONE from a reputable salon, pay her well, and keep everything on the up-and-up.  Don't cruise Instagram looking for a new hottie every time you want to work the kinks out.

Why would he put himself in a position where so many individuals would have an opportunity to bring claims against him?

According to the story she entered his house. The problem here is two fold. 1) One you have a steroid induced athlete. 2) You have a scorned women with military training. I would guess we should be happy nobody ended up dead. Either the courts or a checkbook will sort this one out.

Favre misses payment of $228K in welfare case, auditor says (https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/favre-misses-payment-of-228k-in-welfare-case-auditor-says/ar-AAQMMLF?ocid=entnewsntp)

Retired NFL player Brett Favre missed a deadline to pay $228,000 in interest on welfare money he was paid for a public speaking contract he did not fulfill.

Favre and White feuded Oct. 29 over the auditor saying Favre failed to make speeches after being paid by welfare money. The Twitter spat happened days after Favre repaid $600,000 to the state — the last portion of the $1.1 million that the auditor said Favre received from a nonprofit organization that used money intended to help needy people in one of the poorest states in the U.S. The auditor said Favre still owes $228,000 in interest.

I don't know what #4 was thinking...   :doah:  taking $1.1M for speaking engagements that he didn't bother showing up for (which Favre disputes), but...  and I suppose it could have been spelled out in the contract, but...

Where does the State of Mississippi come up with that figure of $228,000 in interest?

I'd sure like to know where I could find a place to get a 20+% return on my investment.

Now.....it looks like he may have an injured ankle. Or that maybe he was pulled because he was getting close to those bonus monies.

Latest from Yahoo Sports...

Arians reportedly told Jay Glazer that Brown had refused to return to the game in the second half when he was told to. But according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Brown felt he was too injured to return to the game at that point. He'd missed several weeks with an ankle injury — which happened to almost exactly coincide with his fake vaccine card suspension — and had been limited leading up to Week 17 after tweaking it in practice.

"What he told the staff, from what I understand, is that he was not going into the game because, in his mind, he did not feel he was healthy," Rapoport said. "The response then from the offensive coaches and from Bruce Arians was, 'If you are not gonna go into the game when we tell you to go into the game, then you cannot be here.' At that point, they threw him off the sidelines and then cut him from the team."

Brown's reported claim that he was too injured to play adds a new wrinkle to everything we already know. It's certainly plausible it was the cause, because an ankle injury would have prevented him from playing last month had he not been suspended by the NFL.

However, Brown didn't seem to be favoring his ankle when he was jumping around in the end zone and running to the locker room. :bonk: :rotflmao:

Maybe he hurt himself running out of the building.

The latest from the Sporting News...

Why the Buccaneers didn't release Antonio Brown on Monday despite Bruce Arians saying he is 'no longer a Buc'

...However, as of Tuesday morning, Brown was still technically on the team's 53-man roster.

The process of removing Brown at this point is a formality. Arians isn't going to give him another chance after his three-game suspension for misrepresenting his vaccination status coupled with his on-field meltdown on Sunday. And Brown didn't even travel home with the team. He never left New York and was spotted at the Nets game on Monday night.

The Buccaneers will still almost certainly release Brown in the coming days, but they may have wanted to learn his status with the league before doing so. The NFL is not planning any "league-imposed discipline against Brown," as Maske reports, so we'll soon see whether that affects Tampa Bay's plans with Brown.

Either way, it appears that the Bucs are taking the time to make sure that they handle Brown's release in a way that best suits the franchise. And it appears that their consult is a group effort, as the NFL Players Association is also "involved in the deliberations regarding Brown’s status," per Maske.

Raiders WR Davante Adams apologizes for shoving credentialed person after loss, faces potential discipline (https://www.nfl.com/news/raiders-wr-davante-adams-apologizes-for-shoving-camera-operator-after-loss)

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is facing discipline from the league -- potentially even a suspension -- for pushing a credentialed worker to the ground after his team's loss to the Chiefs on Monday night

"[The victim] made arrangements for private transport to the hospital for treatment at which time he called police," the incident report said. "The injuries are preliminarily thought to be non-life threatening."

Kansas City police said the incident will be investigated by its assault unit detectives and the investigation is not expected to last more than 1-2 days.

During his postgame news conference, Adams apologized to the man and addressed the incident following the game.

"Before I say anything, I want to apologize to the guy (camera person) running off the field and he ran and jumped in front of me," Adams said. "I'm coming off the field and I bumped into him and pushed him. I think he ended up on the ground, so I want to say sorry to him because that was just frustration mixed with him running in front of me and I shouldn't have responded that way and that's how I initially responded. I want to apologize to him for that."

When you watch the video, it doesn't look like the guy needed to go to the hospital, but what do professional athletes ALWAYS say...?

"I would NEVER question a player who says he is injured."

Time will tell what the damages are.   ;)

I can't believe the number of people allowed on the sidelines. They are 3 deep end zone to end zone.

While being a bit classless I will never condemn a athlete for something like that with these guys sticking a camera or microphone in their face minutes after a emotional divisional loss.

I have to politely disagree there dutchboy. Blatantly pushing a camera man over? If there weren’t 20 cameras in the end zone, who would these players showboat to after they score a touchdown? These players “need” the spotlight every minute of the game. That’s how the league and players make millions. It’s all marketing and advertisements. Pull all these cameras away and they won’t get their tic tok and instagram reels flooding the internet.

I don’t even think the cameraman was interested in Adams…he was just running across in front of him.

No need to be polite. It's not really a issue I care about one way or another. They can fine, suspend or give him a bonus it wouldn't matter to me.   ;)

My point was more that there are far to many hangers-on roaming the sidelines.

Cardinals' vet takes aim at Kyler Murray work ethic following massive contract extension (https://www.foxnews.com/sports/cardinals-vet-takes-aim-kyler-murray-work-ethic-following-massive-contract-extension-report)

...one teammate slammed Kyler Murray’s work ethic, claiming the quarterback did not feel inclined to meet expectations after signing a massive $230.5 million contract extension in July.

"Once paid, the veteran said, Murray felt less compulsion to study his game plan or to fulfill the expectations of the franchise QB position than he had in the past, and the Cardinals’ collapse felt predictable."

The Cardinals had previously included an "independent study" clause in Murray’s original contract, which reportedly required him to study game film at least four hours per game week, but that stipulation was later removed after fierce backlash.

"After seeing the distraction it created, we removed the addendum from the contract," the organization said in a statement at the time. "It was clearly perceived in ways that were never intended."

"Our confidence in Kyler Murray is as high as it’s ever been and nothing demonstrates our belief in his ability to lead his team more than the commitment reflected in this contract."

What?!?  I thought National Football League players were supposed to be "professionals."  Murray was "distracted" because they team wanted him to spend at least 4 hours per week studying film.   :doah:

No wonder - according to the un-named veteran player the Cardinals went in the tank this year.  G'luck Cardinals.

Generally, yeah.  But those un-named sources don't want to lose their jobs.

Whether or not Murray works hard enough is subjective.  But if you are a grunt (player or front office guy) and don't see Murray putting the effort in - maybe you should just keep your mouth shut.

Because if they did put their name to it - who they goona get rid of?   Murray or the grunt?

So why did management see fit to put that clause in the contract in the first place?  For all I know, Kapt. Kirk has one of those too.   :bonk:

Former NFL quarterback Colin Kapernick accused his adoptive parents of "perpetuating racism" in an interview that aired Thursday.

"I know my parents loved me. But there were still very problematic things that I went through," the biracial quarterback said to CBS News.

Kaepernick illustrated one specific example of this in the novel, depicting a fight he had with his parents during high school over his hairstyle.  Inspired to braid his hair in cornrows like his hero, NBA star Allen Iverson, Kaepernick recalled received pushback from is parents.  Kaepernick said that after styling his hair this way, his mom warned his hair was "not professional" and he "looked like a little thug."

So Kaepernick' parents are racist because they told him they didn't like his haircut?

Colin Kaepernick Sues Adoptive Parents For $21 Million In Reparations BabylonBee (https://babylonbee.com/news/colin-kaepernick-sues-parents-21-million-in-reparations-for-adopting-him)

NEW YORK, NY — Beloved Football superstar Colin Kaepernick has announced he will be suing his white parents for the cruel act of adopting him into a white family without his consent. Kaepernick's legal team announced he is seeking $21 million in reparations from the couple.

"The damage done to our client by growing up in a loving household under two white parents is incalculable," said Attorney Jim Grifton outside the law offices of Grifton & Grift, LLC to members of the press. "Having a present father, living in the suburbs, and being kept safe from gang violence deprived him of the black American experience to which his skin color entitles him. We demand his parents pay the reparations they owe him as white oppressors.

Kaepernick's parents have yet to comment, having supported his stands for racial justice as well as the first 18 years of his life, but insiders say they are struggling with his public denouncement of their parenting. "Rick and Teresa will continue to be supportive of their son but are surprised he would sue them for their mistakes, or seek more reparations when they gave him a weekly reparation of $20 his entire young life," said friends of the family.

At publishing time, Colin Kaepernick had announced a new book addressing the racist and insensitive foods his mother cooked for him. A slot has already been reserved on the New York Times bestseller list during the release week.

Browns' Deshaun Watson avoids ejection after pushing official, commits 2 personal fouls in loss (https://www.foxnews.com/sports/browns-deshaun-watson-avoids-ejection-pushing-official-commits-2-personal-fouls-loss)

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson had an aggressive night against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday and appeared to get a little chippy with some of the opposing players.

In the third quarter, Watson ran to his left and tried to escape Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander as he went out of bounds. However, Watson grabbed Alexander’s facemask, and their momentum together pushed the defender toward the Steelers bench.

Alexander and the Steelers coaches and players on the sidelines were not happy. Alexander had to be held back, and as Watson started to chip, he appeared to push an official out of the way. Contact with an official is supposed to warrant an ejection, but Watson stayed in the game.

Instead, Watson was flagged for unnecessary roughness – a personal foul, and it would not be the only one of the night.

Watson was again flagged for a personal foul in the fourth quarter on a scramble. He grabbed linebacker Nick Herbig by the facemask and pushed him down to the ground.

I don't think this jerk is going to make it through the whole season.  Too bad Stephanski has to babysit a dirt ball like him.

The good new is...

Watson's costly fumbled [later] resulted in the Steelers' go-ahead touchdown!  :rotflmao: :bonk: :happy1: :cheerleader:

I really like Stephanski but despise Watson.  It is too bad Stephanski is connected to the rapist.  I forgot about it or I would have tuned in to some of it last night.  So why does a loser like Watson get off on pushing a ref?  The Browns management has their head up their you know what.
Title: Re: What's Wrong Wit Athletes!

I reckon the refs were afraid of being accused of making the game all about them by throwing out the "star" QB.  I hope all refs get a letter from the commissioner making it a 'point of focus' to no longer tolerate any contact from the players.  In my opinion, either hesitation or indecision from the refs at that critical play cost the NFL an opportunity to say they won't tolerate thugs in the league.  But this is only week two, and it is a long season.

Stephanski is a smart guy and knows there are only 32 NFL HC jobs in the world - and he has one of them.  You are right, Browns management will eventually screw it up beyond all hope and Stephanski will take a hit (most NFL HCs eventually get fired), but if he plays his cards right, and over-achieves just a bit with a bunch of misfits, he'll get another whack at one of those other 31 jobs.

Earlier this week, the former teammates went on Instagram Live and discussed a trip to the Dominican Republic, where they had a "lil orgy." Johnson and Owens said they went through "seventeen girls in twelve hours."

Owens thought it was twelve women, but Johnson had quite the reasoning for why he knew the exact number.  "You can't end sex on even numbers," OchoCinco said.

"I was done after about two or three though," the Hall of Famer Owens said, while Johnson couldn't contain his laughter. "I had to recoup. I had to recover, dog."  Owens also said he "had to take one for the team" as he "had the big girl."  "Sometimes, you gotta do that," Johnson said.  "Big girls need love, too," Owens responded.

How about the dumbass kid that had a stolen gun and I think shot it at a party.  He was with NDSU.  He just gave up a possible career for acting like his dumbass homies.

New details in an alleged shooting involving former NDSU Bison player (https://www.valleynewslive.com/2024/09/09/new-details-an-alleged-shooting-involving-former-ndsu-bison-player/)

Court documents are detailing what led up to shots being fired near a home in north Fargo on Sunday morning.

Jaiden Pickett, 19, faces charges of terrorizing, reckless endangerment, and possession of a stolen firearm.

A judge set his bail at $50,000 Monday, and ordered him to have no contact with the victims.

On Sunday, September 8, just before 1:00 a.m., police were called to the 1200 block of 11th Street North for reports of shots fired.

Multiple witnesses tell police that Pickett got into argument with two people, before grabbing a Berreta Px4 Storm 9mm handgun from his waistband and firing at the home.

Court documents say two people were nearby the area where shots were fired and were almost hit.

Police say Pickett denied having and shooting a firearm. After a short period of time, Pickett wished to invoke his rights so no more questions were asked.

Documents say a search warrant for 1601 University Drive North, #411 was signed and executed. The warrant says police found a 9mm ammunition, as well as a stolen Beretta handgun matching the description of the firearm Pickett had.

Hill said if he wasn’t a celebrity athlete there would have been a different story playing out, suggesting he may have been shot or hauled off to jail.

The bodycam footage was released earlier Monday. The footage captured the intense moments which saw Miami-Dade Police officers stopping Hill, then taking him out of his vehicle and putting him in handcuffs as the situation escalated.

The Dolphins called for punishment for the officers involved in the incident.

Hey Tyreek...  How 'bout you simply roll y'er window down when the cop tells you to and leave it down - and NONE of this happens.

Its always someone else's fault.

Judge orders former NFL star Adrian Peterson to turn over assets to pay $12M debt (https://apnews.com/article/adrian-peterson-judgment-debt-assets-4f63a0a2322291c009b66a26646d8de1)

Former NFL running back Adrian Peterson has been ordered by a Texas judge to turn over personal assets to help pay a debt that has ballooned to more than $12 million.

A court-appointed receiver has been seeking to collect money from Peterson as part of a judgment from a lawsuit filed against the four-time All-Pro running back over a $5.2 million loan he failed to repay to a Pennsylvania lending company. Interest and fees resulted in that debt more than doubling.

The receiver, Robert Berleth, asked a judge in July to order that constables accompany him to Peterson’s home in the Houston suburb of Missouri City so he can inventory assets that can be sold off.

Money is the problem.

I don't care who you are:  a professional athlete, a lottery winner, or someone who inherits a fortune from a long lost relative - time and time again, history shows that people struggle to manage a fortune that they aren't prepared to deal with - and many go broke.

I used to work for a lady who was broke and had 4 kids and who's husband was an alcoholic and passes away. She started a company which took off and they all made millions of dollars in a short time. Once she passed away, the company closed and her kids are now all broke again.  The vision and drive was all her's.

Dolphins' Tyreek Hill explains 4-word message "Let’s make a change" after bodycam footage of detention is released (https://www.foxnews.com/sports/dolphins-tyreek-hill-explains-4-word-message-after-bodycam-footage-detention-released)

Hey Tyreek...  How 'bout you simply roll y'er window down when the cop tells you to and leave it down - and NONE of this happens.

Its always someone else's fault.

A little humility from Hill...  Dolphins' Tyreek Hill says he could have handled some elements of traffic stop better, calls for officer to be fired (https://www.nfl.com/news/dolphins-tyreek-hill-says-he-could-have-handled-some-elements-of-traffic-stop-better-calls-for-officer-to-be-fired)

"I will say I could have been better," Hill said. "I could have let down my window in that instant. But the thing about me is, I don't want attention. I don't want to be cameras-out, phones-on-you in that moment. But at the end of the day, I'm human. I've got to follow rules. I've got to do what everyone else would do. ... Now, does that give them the right to literally beat the dog out of me? Absolutely not," Hill continued. "But at the end of the day, I wish I could go back and do things a bit differently."

In part, I can now understand (but not excuse) his reaction based on 'his side of the story'.  He is the center of his world and he doesn't want to "hurt his brand" by anyone taking pictures of him while he is getting pulled over for a ticket.  So he rolls his window back up.  Trouble is, he was also living in the world where a cop was giving him an order and he wasn't obeying.  And despite his admonition, he feels compelled to make race a factor in what followed afterwards.  We'll have to wait and see how the Miami-Dade Police Department deals with this in a post-George Floyd world.

He could have left the window part way open so him and the cop could communicate. That being said after watching the footage I do think the cop also had an ego that got in the way.

Probably so.  To me the most telling part was when the office mumbled something to the effect of, "I'm not doing this today," which presumably referred to taking $#!T from a non-compliant citizen.

Was it racially motivated?

Was it motivated by the fact that he was clearly dealing with a wealthy individual appeared to be acting as if he was above the law?

Both?  Neither?     Time will tell.

I did read this opinion piece from the Miami Herald.  Two wrongs don’t add up to anyone being right in Tyreek Hill sagal (https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/omar-kelly/article292307379.html)

The article covers a lot of ground, from a lot of different perspectives - one of them Tyreek Hill calling for the cops firing.  For your consideration...

But for Hill to request that Torres lose his job over Sunday’s incident is unnecessary, and short sighted.

We don’t know officer Torres’ history, and his track record with civilians. One horrendous day shouldn’t lead to someone losing a career he or she has spent nearly three decades building.

[Hill] happens to be on his fifth, or sixth NFL life because of the numerous legal situations he has put himself in this past decade, which includes domestic violence, alleged child abuse and last year’s assault of a boat captain. Hill’s history and consistent misbehavior proves he’s no altar boy, which is why it’s not fair for someone to consistently request a second, third and fifth chance to demand the removal of the officer.

We need to learn from this, and grow from it. All of us.

 Seen that too, mike, only the pc I read said he'd told some of his teammates that he wanted the season to be over. :bs: Well, now he got his wish, but his baseball career is probably over too. :doah:

Agreed, he may have wanted the season over. But, someone needs to hit a ball?

Lakeland scored four runs in the second inning on the way to a "6-0 victory" and won the Florida State League West division.

I'd say the kids career is over. MLB will accept cheating but they won't tolerate quitters. As a going away present he will be allowed to keep the $297,000 signing bonus.

I read a blog post someplace where a teammate of his kinda stuck up for him - but in no way excused his actions.  He characterized him as a good teammate, a tough competitor, and a 21-year-old who made a stupid mistake.

Professional sports is the one place where raw talent will get you two, three, four, and more chances.

How do those Semisonic song lyrics from "Closing Time" go..?  "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here."
