Soooooo.... I've been feeding the birds for a loooonnnnggg time...
On a side note I have also been feeding our barn cats during the winter months.
Here is the odd twist.... I have noticed that the Blue Jay's really like the cat food over the bird seed I put in the feeders.
Had anybody thought about putting cat food in the bird feeder?
I can tell you that the Walmart 🐈 food is cheaper than some of the bird seed! 🤣

Isn't there something about dry food like that swelling up in a bird's stomach or something? Seems I read that somewhere....
-
Just put the bird feeder next to the cats and kill two birds with one..... Oh, never mind.

no. but I wouldn't have a cat anywhere near my house. I get why you have them to keep mice down.
I bought some of the cheap fleet farm sprout dog food years ago for bear bait. when season was over I tried feeding that to my old black lab...……… he wouldn't touch it!!!!!!!

Put out a barrel of peanuts for the BJ's. They love those. Shoot the cats.

When we moved up here about 14 years ago it was fun to see Magpies. Have never been around them before. I put some dog food in the bird feeder and they found it right away so we got to see them close up. Didn't do it again as it they scared the other birds away. Uncanny how quick birds figure things out though. We get BJ in our feeders often.

The cats are around to maintain the rodent population, and I maintain the cat population.
I feed the birds in a separate area than where the cats are fed.
If a Blue Jay gets caught by a cat while it's trying to steel cat food, oh well, there is nothing I can do about it.
My wife has gotten attacked by some Jay's as she tried feeding the cats. 😁
And we only feed the cats during the winter months for supplement to keep them alive. The summer months, they don't seem to need anything else besides what they catch.

That is why I don't shoot or trap these foxes. I was going to set traps a few years ago but changed my mind. We do have lots of mice and shrews around here.

That's one reason why I now leave 'possums alone. Good pest control.

Yup, I guess it's "what's works for you" kind of thing....
I'm pretty sure that if I had 🦊 running around, the chicken population would go down. :rotflmao:
Anyways.... I was just asking about the cat food, cause the Jay's sure seem to like it.

Well, if ya see 'em riding around on the cat's backs, I'd say it's OK. :rotflmao:

It is just fun to observe the birds and critters around us. I guess that is why we feed birds and stuff. So as I asked on the Good Morning thread. I want to take pics of "our" foxes on the hill.

Lookin' forward to those pics...🦊
