Title: DRIFT GILLNET BILL APPROVED
Post by: Lee Borgersen on December 12/13/20, 11:28:42 PM
:reporter; DRIFT GILLNET BILL APPROVED WITH BIPARTISAN SUPPORT

 :coffee: ......
Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Driftnet Modernization and Bycatch Reduction Act which will phase out large-scale driftnet fishing in federal waters off California.

Having passed both chambers of Congress with bipartisan support, the bill now heads to the President’s desk for his signature.

These drift gillnets — which are a mile long, nearly invisible and set out overnight near the ocean’s surface to capture swordfish — are responsible for entangling, injuring and killing a wide range of marine life. These include popular sportfish, whales, dolphins, sea turtles, sharks and other important non-targeted fish species.

Thanks to the actions of Keep America Fishing supporters like you, soon our oceans will be rid of this dirty gear that has been allowed to wastefully kill sportfish and other marine life for far too long.

Makes one wonder what kind of mindless/heartless idiots would use such a thing?
