Seen this morning former NFL head coach Dan Reeves passed away. Seems like this goes on this time of year.
Even around here. The obits get plenty busy in Dec.
-
I agree. Pattern sometimes seems like make it thru Christmas then die. Wife has to work tomorrow to get all the arrangements to a bunch of Sunday funerals. She's blown thru most of the dogwood I cut earlier & I cut more than ever. Needs greens too. No rest for the wicked... :doah:

Seen where they found Bob segat dead in a hotel room today, he was in full house and funniest home videos.

heard Dwayne Hickman from Dobie Gilis passed away too..

I read Meat Loaf, the singer passed away.. 74 years old.. didn't know he was that old...
Time sneaks up on you. "Bat out of Hell" was released 45 year ago. :rocker;
-
true that! rock on! :happy1:
-
Got to see Meatloaf twice. 1st time was at the Medina Ballroom in 1990 and then again in 1994 at the Target Center.
In 1990 he was doing a nostalgia tour of "Bat out of Hell" in small venues.
Then in 1993 he released the sequel album, "Meat Loaf Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell" and took that show to major auditoriums with his "Everything Louder Tour." A couple of things stand out from that show. He expressed his appreciation to the fans multiple times. He felt so fortunate to have the opportunity to be a Rock and Roll superstar one more time. He was truly humbled by the whole experience and he left everything he had on stage that night. The other thing he was happy about was that his daughter was singing back-up vocals - but he didn't announce that to the crowd until the end of the night.
And in case you were wondering, his daughter did NOT sing the "Paradise by Dashboard Light" duet with him. That was another "yeah baby" singer. :happy1:
Here is a photo I found on line from that Target Center show.

The 1 I'll always remember was the Thanksgiving 1 where they were dropping free turkeys out of a helicopter. That had me :rotflmao:
-
I always thought WKRP was a very under-rated sit-com. It lasted 4 years. They were all great characters, but Herb Tarlek and Les Nessman made the show for me.

Dodgers longtime play-by-play announcer Vin Scully dead at 94 (https://www.foxnews.com/sports/dodgers-longtime-play-announcer-vin-scully-dead-94#&_intcmp=hp1r_4,hp1r)
Best of all time. (I miss Herb Carneal too.)
-
:happy1: yep. He was one of the best!!; :happy1:
-
It was sad to hear all the audio of his great call that radio and TV stations have been replaying. Sad because he was such a great talent and that there will never be anyone like him again. Corporate media moguls would never trust one person - no matter how skilled they are - to handle a broadcast solo.
Time flies. It seems like it hasn't been that long since he called his last game, but that was almost 6 years ago - 2016.

Olivia Newton John has passed away according to reports.
https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/08/entertainment/olivia-newton-john-obit/index.html

-
That's too bad , that girl could sing ! She musta been in hiding over the years, didn't see much of her..
-
So young. What a beautiful woman!!! RIP Olivia,
-
well not sure she's a great one but just seen where Ann Heche passed away after her car accident. isnt she the one that likes girls now and then??????????
still sad !!!!!!!
-
yes she did, sounds like she had drugs in her system and was badly burned in the accident... RIP
-
well not sure she's a great one but just seen where Ann Heche passed away after her car accident. isnt she the one that likes girls now and then??????????
still sad !!!!!!!
A fiery car crash is a bad way to go - under the influence or not.
Yeah, I remember when when she was in "Six Days, Seven Nights" with Harrison Ford. She almost lost the part because she had recently come out of the closet and took Ellen DeGeneres to some red carpet event as a date. Harrison Ford stepped up to the plate to bat for her. Later she was critiqued for being a gay woman playing a straight woman. How stupid was that?
Boy, if we were paying attention, the "Woke" movement - at least as far as Hollywood is concerned - might have started right then.
-
I wasn't completely into her thing but too bad for her. Sad deal. Good actress too.
-
Never heard of her.
-
She used to be Ellen's squeeze then decided she like guys better. Had some major mental health & drug issues from some of the reading. Great actress but a tortured soul apparently. May she rest in peace.
-
You and me both coop, momma showed me a pic and I still didn't know... she must notta been a great one..
-
I saw her once on one of the late night talk shows. She came across as a real dingbat. Claimed she had some type of spirit guide, and then said a bunch of made up words that she said was the language they used.
-
just seen the Queen of England passed away... she was 96
-
I wondered how bad off she was. SO now what? Will someone move up to her spot?
I will answer that for me. LOL Charles becomes King.
-
Bummer. Elizabeth was a huge Corgi fan and had them most of her life. Was thinking of calling her for some pointers. Prince Charles will become king.
-

Already IS king. I heard the ascendency is automatic upon the Queen's death. All the other formal stuff will come later.
(Couldn't resist. :embarrassed: )
-
seeing her dogs was what got me interested in them too Dotch...
-
It could take months for all of the formalities for him to be king. They Parliament all have to pledge loyalty to him and he has to pledge loyalty to them too among other things. Just think, Glenn may not know about this until we tell him when he gets back to civilization. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
as old as he is he could be gone by then!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
:rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Find him in the outhouse? :rotflmao: :rotflmao: Shadow laying outside.
-
I was implying Charles!!! not Glenn!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1:
-
I never understood why some people were so infatuated with these people. I saw one of the princesses once and thought she was cute…was about as far as I cared to know.
-
Mike I thought you meant Glenn and I thought it was funny as heck. Thanks for that laugh. LOL Ya Pull I agree. Britain spends millions a year to have the pretentious "Royal Family". I don't really get it but seems fun for them. It is classy in it's own way but is it really necessary? That is what takes away from the classiness of it to me but then again, what the heck do I know????
-
I was watching a Netflix documentary on the old castles in England and they gave the warring histories of all the past monarch families and invaders.
Too bad they can't do it like the old days...
Prince Harry could send a squad of commandos to kidnap King Charles and his brother, Prince William, lock them away in one of those towers forever, and declare himself king. :bonk: And everyone would have to go along with it until someone could get to Harry. :rotflmao:
-

'Bout even I guess.

Nothing against her or her dogs but the whole royalty thing should be in the past, the distant past.

She was great! Coal miner's daughter Glenn.

-
Great singer. My former employer hire her and her band to perform for our Christmas party about 20 years ago.
-
wow!! that would have great!!
-
She was one of my Mom's favorites. Think she saw her at the Grand Old Opry when my brother lived in Nashville.
-
Was given a night at a supper club where she played with her band. Very classy deal. South of the Thunderbird. Was a pretty famous place. Our table was right up front. Was a fun time and the music was great!
-
Wasn't all that long ago my wife and I saw her at Mille Lacs Grand Casino concert. Also, several years ago we went on a bus tour through her childhood location. Checked out he house etc. Nice trip

Carlton Celebrity Room? Went there a couple times, once for Leon Russell and don’t remember the other one. Might have been B.B. King. Good dinner and then the show.
-
Ya that was the place. Thanks I couldn't remember the name. That would have been in about 1984 I suppose.
-
Would have liked to see Leon there. Always been of fan of his. Back to the Island!
-
I saw Leon at Troutaire, too. Great show. We smuggled some wine in a jug cooler under a blanket and then sat on the blanket. When the show started, the whole crowd, including us, rushed the to the fence in front of the stage. I thought for sure our blanket and wine would be demolished. I looked back and in the middle of that crowd, the blanket was surrounded by people but totally undisturbed—not a single foot on it.
The last time I saw him was at the Dakota. Pretty sad show. He was in and out of the building on a little rascal scooter. He died not too long after that.
-
I see Angela Lanbury passed away yesterday... 96 years old... RIP
-
Lost another friend last week. That makes 2 in the last 3 weeks. I seem to be reaching the age where I'm losing friends and family and also the stars / performers I grew up with are dying off.
Just reinforces the old saying "enjoy everyday as it might be your last."
-
Enjoyed her in Murder She Wrote. Didn't realize how many other acting jobs she was involved in. Talented lady.
-
I see Christine McVie passed away.. great music from her.. RIP
-

-
She was fun on Cheers. RIP
-
so I see Barbra Walters and Pope Benedict both passed away yesterday... RIP...
-
Yup RIP.
-
Great interviewer. Loved Gilda Radnor's parodying her as Baba Wawa too.
-
Oh ya that was funny as heck. Yes Barbara did a lot of real good news and interviews.
-
Jeff Beck passed away from meningitis yesterday at 78. While he didn't have the commercial success that fellow Yardbirds Page & Clapton did, he was usually rated among the top 5 guitarists of all time. Ironically the day after his friend Jimmy Page's 79th birthday.
-
RIP
-
Yes he was a great guitarist. I didn't realize the was that old. RIP
-
No doubt Jeff Beck was a great guitarist. I saw him play a double-billing with Stevie Ray Vaughn at Northrop Auditorium right when Stevie was rising to the peak of his popularity. I suspect most folks were there to see Stevie.
Stevie opened and was fantastic. When Jeff took over, he didn't play his classic stuff in his old style, but was rather playing some new "experimental" stuff that the crowd wasn't digging. No one "got" what he was trying do do. People were literally streaming out in the isles and ended up hanging out on the steps talking about what just happened.
Then some guy came out and shouted, "Stevie's back on stage!" and everyone rushed back in for the encores and was re-energized.
I think Beck really suffered that night because SRV was just that much better. RIP JB.
-
Been a fan since the Yardbird days even though he wasn't nearly as popular as the other 2. I've got some 70's vinyl of his including this 1. https://music.apple.com/us/album/jeff-beck-with-the-jan-hammer-group-live/157274380 He never sang much, but he didn't have to..........................his guitar did it for him. RIP

-
Yup.....loved him with the original Birds....Then Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young,
-
This one slipped by me back in Dec. Mentioned Angel from The Rockford Files in a post so thought I'd check up on him to see what he's been up to. D'oh! :doah: Really enjoyed this guy whenever I saw him, whether it was on Gunsmoke, MASH, Love American Style & especially on The Rockford Files.

He was real cool! RIP Burt.
-
dang I didn't even realize he was still around... did some great music! RIP
-
I remember in 1st grade, our class had to sing "Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head" in music class. They were teaching us rhythm and we had to beat two red sticks together in time with the music to represent the rain. Ta-Ta-Tee-Tee-Ta type stuff. My music skills never advanced beyond that point.
I always thought it was cool they used that song in the movie "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" - so out of place for a western.
He wrote beautiful songs. I loved his work with Dionne Warwick.
-
Raquel Welch, whose role in the 1966 film “One Million Years B.C.” shot her to stardom and cemented her status as a sex symbol, has died, her management company said.

-
I saw Gary Rossington play at the MN State when Skynyrd was there & the band started touring again. They weren't the same but still sounded pretty decent. Another band I've had the same problem with is Molly Hatchet. Have had tickets to a couple of their shows. Cancelled both times. :pouty:

I read where Robert Blake passed away... 89 Barretta!!! RIP

I read where Robert Blake passed away... 89 Barretta!!! RIP
Blake acquitted for murdering his wife in criminal court, but found guilty of wrongful death in civil court. He was sued for $30 Mil and went into bankruptcy.
I could never figure out that civil wrongful death thing... Yeah, I know it is a lower standard of proof in civil court. Did he do it? One jury said there wasn't enough proof, another one said he did it.
OJ must have had better lawyers, because I don't remember the Goldman's getting one, red cent from OJ, and I don't think OJ ever had to declare bankruptcy.
That thought made me google this...
O.J. Still Owes The Goldmans A Lot Of Money And Fred Goldman Is Coming To Collect (https://newsone.com/4187481/oj-simpson-fred-goldman-money/)
In 1997, Simpson was ordered to pay the Goldman family $33.5 million after he lost a civil case for killing Ron Goldman. 10 years later, Simpson was charged with armed robbery for trying to steal back his memorabilia that was taken from him after the suit. He spent the next 11 years in prison.
After being released in 2018, the Goldman family started to notice that Simpson was able to generate some income, but they were not seeing a dime of the money. As of February 2021, O.J has reportedly only paid the Goldman family $132,000, but Simpson’s debt has ballooned due to interest rates, and now he owes the Goldman family over $70 million.
-
well if OJ did it or not...........he's still a friggin slimeball!!!!!!!!!
-
I think he did it and I do believe he has told some people that he did it.

Working from memory here, but didn't Bud claim he had no knowledge of what the outfitter guide did before he got there and the guide took the hit?
-
The one allegation in Nebraska yes, but there were other times as well.....
-
I chalked it up to over zealous guides wanting to show Bud a good time, I guess because I wanted to think the best of him.
-
Mark Russel, political satirist, dead at 90.
I can't believe it has beem since 2004 when he did his last PBS special. I used to watch him all the time.
-
I see Jerry Springer passed away, 79 years old... what a show he had!!!! only seen it a couple times but the fights!!!!

Yeah, in the old days before twitter and social media, we used to have to go on TV shows to pitch our hissy fits and fight our bitch battles. :embarrassed:

The church bell chimed 'til it rang twenty-nine times
For each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald
The legend lives on from the Chippewa on down
Of the big lake they called Gitche Gumee
Superior, they said, never gives up her dead
When the gales of November come early
RIP
-
damn i loved that tune!!!!!!!!! :pouty:
when i heard that on the news last night, they said he had just cancelled some dates for health reasons.......didnt seem to take long to him to pass!!!!!!!
-
Damn. I'd been hoping to see him sometime as I knew he was still touring. Was on my bucket list same as John Prine was before he passed. Lightfoot was so easy to listen to and his lyrics were so extremely well woven together. RIP.
-
I read Rosie, the bartender on Mash, has passed away... cancer and 79...
-
RIP Rosie.
-
Bummer. Too young.
-
Tim Bachman passed away on Sunday at 71. Founding member of BTO. Still have their "Not Fragile" eight track tape. If my memory is correct his brother Randy passed a few months ago.
-
awesome band!! RIP....
-
Enjoyed seeing what was left of BTO a few years back. Still had that driving, hard rock sound. Suspect Robbie was the only original Bachman performing with the band at that time. Believe Randy Thornton & C. Fred Turner performed were part of the group I saw. I think Randy is still alive. Robbie Bachman, the drummer passed away back in January. RIP Tim.

what a gal!!!
-
What an absolute icon of energy. RIP Tina. Rolling Down the River!!!
-
For sure. RIP Tina!
-
Tina was Number 1 in live audiences. Just under 200,000 in 1 concert in Rio. Think about that. That's over 3 times the people at a full stadium at a Vikes game.
Many concerts over 100,000 people in Europe. One of the top Rock entertainers of all time. Definitely the top female rock star of all time. Will miss her........Love this song......Tina Turner......THE BEST :happy1: :happy1:

She could really move! Didn't really listen to her much until her popularity in the early 80's. Then I was hooked. Rough life with Ike. May she RIP.

That's too bad, RIP Bob. By the way, I hope you had some fun with the ladies that modeled on your show!! :sleazy:
-
I think he did and had to pay some of them some hefty at the time hush money.
-
Did he pay (if he did actually pay) because he was guilty or that there was no way to prove he was innocent in a she said/he said case. For famous people, once accusations are made - true or untrue - you've already lost.

Suzanne Somers has passed away, 76 years old... RIP
-
Still remember watching her on Three's Company. She was dingy but she was hawt! May she RIP.
-
agreed!!
-
As I recall she always bristled at the notion that folks thought she was as dingy in real life as the characters she played.
How many of you guys still have a Thighmaster y'er wife picked up somewhere in the bottom box in the back corner of your basement?
-
Saw a thing on her on the news. She was quite a business person. Did a lot of singing too and other acting. She asked for as money as Jack got on the show and they let her go. That is why she wasn't on it till the end.
-
R.I.P. Night Court star Richard Moll.. enjoyed his humor...
-
He was excellent. Great show.
-
Yes he was a fun part of the show. RIP
-
Yes, he was fun to watch. RIP.
Also seen today Matthew Perry died. He was great in Friends. RIP
-
yes he was! rather young too... RIP
-
Only 54......................drowned in his hot tub, is what I read.
-
No kidding. Hadn't heard that. He was a darn good actor. RIP
-
Sad deal. Had seen where he led a tortured existence due to addiction to alcohol, painkillers, etc., but had straightened his life out. May he RIP.
-
Yeah, the pc I read said he just said that he'd been sober for 18 months last October. RIP, Chandler.

We get more information than we probably ought to have when celebs die - especially in dubious circumstances. The preliminary coroners report said there were no drugs found at the scene, but they are waiting toxicology reports and hinted at other circumstances that did not appear in the report. Fame can take its toll on people if they can't figure out how to ground themselves.
-
Coach Bobby Knight. Indiana has never been the same.
-
I'm from Indiana, originally. Colorful character but not at all politically correct. He wasn't afraid to hurt someones feelings to get them motivated.
-

Thats not a bad thing. To much coddling going on these days.
-
I remember hearing a story. He was bringing his team off the court after beating a team that was , on paper, a much better team.
Some sports reporter asked him how they were able to beat whatever team it was. Coach Knight didn't even look up but said something very simple. "We won by scoring more points than they did". Coach just walked away.
I didn't see it but I hope it's true.
-
 I remember when he threw a chair at an Iowa player back when Alford was the coach.
-
I used to love watching Indiana & Purdue play as Keady was often just as intense as Knight. If I'm not mistaken, I think there was a flying chair in 1 of their games too. ;)
-
I always thought it was a little disingenuous when Knight's players got all bent out of shape when he was hard on them. They knew what they were signing up for.
-
More of Sid Hartman's close personal friends keep biting the dust. He was a great coach, definitely fun to watch as long as your team wasn't playing against him. The chair throwing incident was a classic. After he retired and was an analyst for ESPN, he was great to listen to. Knew the game backwards and forwards.

The report that I saw, was he went into cardiac arrest, then drowned in the hot tub.

Norman Lear, the creator of many of the great sitcoms on when I was a kid, died at 101 on Tuesday. I was a big fan of "All in the Family" but he had many others too. Got his start writing for the Colgate Comedy Hour back in the 50's which starred Dean Martin & Jerry Lewis. RIP Norman!!
-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norman_Lear
yes he was a very talented man!!! gave us some great TV shows....
-
Man he was the man alright. Very smart guy. RIP
-
All in the Family changed everything for TV and had huge impacts on society.
It was kinda the first viral video. Everyone watched to see what was being said about the hot issues of the day. We have way more media outlets now, but that is probably where it started in terms of pop-sociology to mass audiences.
-
Loved all of Lear's shows. But especially All in the Family and Sanford and Son. :happy1: :happy1:
-
The missus and I were on the Hulu a while ago, board and couldn't figure out what to watch. We came across Sanford and Son and watched Season 1 Episode 1. For being a 70s show, it held up pretty well.
(Ooops. I think I remember mentioning this story several months back. At least I remembered that I'm getting senile. :bonk: )
I found that on Hulu or some other streamer service the other day. We watched the 1st episode of season 1. It holds up pretty well today. :happy1:
-
Yep, we did the same at the cabin in the fall, to pass time we watched All in the family, spot on and didn't hold back.
-
I'm a lot like Archie which I don't consider a bad thing. Those sit-coms made me laugh back then and they still do to this day. May he rest in peace and keep the good Lord laughing.
-
Ditto!!! :happy1:
-
He actually said that he wrote scripts for Archie & Edith to make them out to be like his mom & dad.

I received some sad news that could effect us all. Especially me...
My long term friend "tech-guy" (his forum name here) has lost his battle with cancer. He was instrumental in keeping this website going with updates and server changes. I'm not sure what I'm going to do without him. I am computer savvy, but he is and was way better than me. I can fix most things, but when it came down to the brass tax, he always saved my ass. At the moment, I'm totally lost. I will continue to do my best to keep this website going, but I'm guessing I'm going to have to find someone to help support the website.
Just like always, I'll let you know when we have changes that effect us and how the website functions.
Sorry for rambling on, this hits pretty hard..... :pouty:
-
damn HD sorry for the loss!!!!!!!!! he did do a great job!!!!!! :happy1:

Done my friend. Enjoy! In honor of Tech-guy!

sorry to hear that HD, my thoughts are with you.........
-
Sorry brother. Stay positive.
-
That's tough news for sure HD. People like him are usually very much missed when they are gone. Especially when it's a good friend. Take care my good man.
-
Thanks ya'll for the thoughts and prayers! And thank-you Barry for the donation!
I really don't know what I'm going to do, I'm so depressed...and can hardly focus, he was my backbone in running this site!
I'm going to have to try and run the next set of updates by myself (the last time I tried, I ef'd it up)
Anyways....if you know of someone that works on website maintenance...send them my way....
-
I just seen this, so sorry for the loss of a good friend HD.
-
I'm reaching out to a friend, hopefully I can get you an answer for the website maintenance... fingers crossed...
-
Just seen this. So for your loss HD!!!

Tom Smothers, half of the provocative Smothers Brothers comedy duo, dies at 86.. got lots of good laughs from him!!! RIP
-
Sad to hear about Tommy Smothers. I just came in from the fur shed and saw this. Lots of memories watching their show way back when.
-
Saw that. A lot of great entertainment from them on TV back in the mid to late 60's. We had at least one of the Smothers Brothers comedy LP's as well. May he RIP.
-
It was so damn funny that we had sore jaws from laughing. It was a family thing at that age. Maybe 8th grade. RIP and thanks for the laughs.
-
David Soul gone......died at 80 today.
Big star in the 70's.....Starsky and Hutch....Red '76 Grand Torino with a big white stripe down the sides. :happy1: :happy1: :happy1:
Also.....big hit song....."Don't Give Up On Us Baby"
-
Yup, also the "bad cop" in Magnum Force as well as a lot of spots in TV shows prior to Starsky & Hutch. He was on an episode of Gunsmoke I watched just the other nite. Between him and Jon Voight, both worked when they needed a blonde-haired Norwegian for a part.
Great actor. Will be missed.

For you old timers.....Joyce Randolf is gone.....99 years old.
The last of the "Honeymooners." Preceded by Jackie Gleason, Audrey Meadows, and Art Carney. Loved watching Ralph and Alice Cramden and Ed and Trixie Norton in black and white in the 50's.
"One of these days Alice.....Gonna send you to the Moon."
"One of these days Alice.....Pow right in the Kisser."
-
RIP
-
darn good show... RIP all of them...
-
A while ago everyone lauded Norman Lear for "changing television" with his groundbreaking sitcoms.
The Honeymooners INVENTED the sitcom! I was more of the age to be enjoying The Flintstones rather than The Honeymooners, but eventually I did grow up, and got to see the latter in syndication, which was every bit as pioneering for its day as All in the Family. Jackie Gleeson was comedy genius.

Very true glenn. Didn't see a lot of The Honeymooners episodes as the reruns weren't on at a time when I could watch them. I enjoyed Jackie Gleason though in Smokey and the Bandit. Sally Field was still hot then... :hubba:

JOE THE BARTENDER AND CRAZY GUGGENHEIM.....early 60's
Frank Fontaine. That guy had a great singing voice.
"Mr Donahey, put a dime on number 10." :happy1: :happy1: :happy1:

Honeymooners is still on one of the KSTP stations in the cities. Sunday nights at 11:00. If I happen to be there at that time, I always try to remember to see it.

Funny show. Way ahead of its time and it got canceled. They tried to bring it back after a several year hiatus, but it wasn't the same. It streams on Netflix now and maybe elsewhere.
-
That was a pretty good show. His cheapness was maddening and funny.
-
I see Toby Keith passed away. Only 62. Lost his battle with cancer. Really liked his music. RIP Toby!!!
-
yes good music from him... RIP...
-
Just a reminder that we all are mortal. Live each day like it might be our last.
R.I.P.
-
RIP....he put on a great show.
-
Saw that a few minutes ago. Wanted to see his show at MN State Fair but he had to cancel due to his cancer diagnosis. Not a huge country fan but he was one I wanted to hear. May he RIP.
-
We listen to Highwaymen Country at times when we have fires so Toby was in a lot of it. Yes he will be missed. He sure lost a lot of weight and you could even see his face was skinny. RIP Toby.
-
My wife was pretty surprised by Toby Keith's passing. I know she listens to a lot of his music.
I'm not a country music fan but I don't like hearing of decent people passing. She'll probably play him a lot the next few days.
-
barely knew who he was as i dont listen to country music at all........much less knew he had cancer......... :doah: RIP
friggin cancer...............
-
:moon: Cancer. RIP Toby. He was awesome.
-
Not a big country fan here either but knew who he was & even liked quite a bit of his stuff. RIP TK
-
OK I give up  what's with Toby kieth and the Red solo cup
-
Saw him at the state fair quite a few years ago. He explained that he and the band would get bored riding on the bus from one concert town to the next and would make up songs as they rode, and that was how Red Solo Cup came to be.
He also had a pretty good sense of humor that showed up in some of his videos. In the video for In the Trailerhood, a storm is coming and the wind is starting to blow pretty hard, so he takes a stapler and fastens his ballcap to his head. On I’m as Good as I Once Was, he’s being propositioned by two hot twins. When they turn the other side of their faces they’re cross eyed and are missing teeth.
-
OK I give up  what's with Toby kieth and the Red solo cup
just a fun song, like on the pontoon!!!! :happy1: :happy1:
-
As soon as I hear Ref solo cup I start singing along. He had many great tunes. Today at work 8 had Toby Keith radio playing on iHeartRadio.
-
I like all genres of music now. Used to just be classic rock but finding I like country more now too.
-
I liked a ton of country. Having trouble with some of the newer stuff nowadays though. Really like rock, especially 80s hair bands. I'm a head banger at heart. Lol.
-
Eric Carmen.....74
Best song and scene from the movie Dirty Dancing....Hungry Eyes....1980's great music.

He wrote a lot of good music.
-
Since youse guys brought it up I can admit that was a pretty darn good movie.
-
Patrick Swazi was so good in those dancing scenes he kind of over shadowed Jennifer Grey. Loved those movies from the 80's. :drinking: :drinking:
-
" Nobody puts baby in a corner " Nope never seen it..lol. I didn't realize he was around that long, heard one of his songs on XM on the 70's station.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/oj-simpson-dies-76-rcna147382
Yeah, OJ got pretty good at denial stuff. From the article...
"Reports circulated in February that Simpson had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was in hospice care as he underwent chemotherapy. Simpson denied that he was in hospice in a video posted to X, but did not address whether he or not he'd been diagnosed with cancer.
“Hospice? Hospice? You talking ‘bout hospice?” Simpson said in the video with a laugh, adding that he doesn’t know who started the rumors. "
-
won't be missed by me
-
Don't like to hear about anyone fighting or succumbing to cancer. I kind of wonder if he'll be remembered for his football career, acting career or his high profile trial.
-
All time great football player in college & the NFL.
Big egomaniac (Think Pete Rose big) who never owned up or apologized for what he did.
The sooner his name is forgotten the better.
-
I'm with you on this one Dutch.
-
Also agree with Dutch.
-
Me too!
-
Second best running back of all time. Second to Jim Brown.
BUT.....no matter what that jury said....they were wrong.
-
I remember being in the breakroom at work when the verdict was announced and a few of the brothers jumping up and down yelling yeeea! I lost some faith in society that day! :undecided:
-
I heard the Bronco is going to be used to carry his remains  :rotflmao:
He was one hellofa a football player but a real a real life scumbag.

Allman Brothers guitarist Dickey Betts dead at 80 (https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/allman-brothers-guitarist-dickey-betts-dead-80)
"The legendary performer, songwriter, bandleader and family patriarch was at his home in Osprey, FL., surrounded by his family. Dickey was larger than life, and his loss will be felt world-wide.
Formed out of Jacksonville, Florida in 1969, the Allman brothers were a popular rock band with hits like "Ramblin' Man" and "Blue Sky." The original members included brothers Duane and Gregg Allman, as well as Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johnson, and Betts.

Yup that southern rock was pretty darn good stuff. :sleazy:

Son Kiefer was a competent actor, but (in my opinion) never had his dad's 'cool' factor. There was just something charismatic about Donald. He had a lot of good movies, but my favorite was when he played Sgt. Oddball in "Kelly's Heroes."

Bummer to lose both Willie Mays and Donald Sutherland in the same week. By the time I started watching a lot of baseball, Willie Mays wasn't the factor he had been earlier in his career, but still a giant nonetheless. Watched the game played last nite at Rickwood Field. Way cool to see the old venue and hear the stories from the Negro League days. One just never knew where Donald Sutherland would show up. I still remember watching Animal House and hey! It's Donald Sutherland! Marvelous actor. Both will be missed.
-
Loved Kelly's Heroes. Especially as the tank commander blowing up the Train Station while playing the song....."I've been working on the Railroad."
But better as Trapper John in MASH and especially inspecting the troops as a Dumb General in Dirty Dozen.
-
All classics for sure!
-
Martin Mull has passed away.. good comedian.... RIP
-
Yup another good one too. He was pretty funny. I liked him. RIP Martin.

Feel fortunate to have seen him with The Oaks just a few years ago at the Freeborn Co. Fair. The Oak Ridge Boys were one of my Mom's favorites. May he RIP.

One of my favorites.....17 number 1 hits.
Especially....."American Made."
-
I'm not a big country music fan but I liked The Oakridge Boys. Sorry to hear about Joe Bonsall. Years ago my son and I sang a mean duet of "Elvira".
-
Now, I see Shelly Duvall passed away. I remember her from "The Shining". Complications from diabetes, I read. Sad.

Oh man I really liked her. Great actress. She was great in Popeye too! RIP Shelly

I thought he was funny too. RIP Bob.
-
Yes he was funny. Really enjoyed his stuff. We seem to be losing a lot because we are getting old. Or at least it makes me feel old.
-
It does seem we're losing more people. Maybe I'm just more aware of it. I dunno.
I liked the series where he and his wife owned the inn. I really liked Larry, Daryl and Daryl.
-
Yes his type of humor was great on the show. LOL
-
Enjoyed both the shows he starred in. Been a long time since I've seen either of them tho. May he RIP.

John Mayall passed away. Created a lot of strange music, but "Room to Move" is on my fishing playlist. Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Mick Taylor and Jack Bruce all played in his Blue's Breakers band.
-
Great tunes. RIP
-
I saw that yesterday and wondered if anybody on here would pick up. I’ve been a fan for many years of most of the Blues Breakers and Yardbirds alumni.
-
yes good music... RIP...

Absolutely, same here. :happy1: :happy1:

Somebody requested a Mayall song on 105.5 when we were in town on Wednesday & the DJ said he had just passed away. Yeah, some good old blues played there.

Phil Donahue host of the "Phil Donahue show" for 3 decades has died. No cause of death was given, though his family said he'd "passed away peacefully following a long illness."
Still married to Marlo Thomas since 1980.
He was 88.
-
I always liked his show. I remember some that were classic to me. Once he had the "We like skunk smell people" or whatever they call them on. They each carried skunk scent like for trapping with them and would open it and take a quick whiff now and then. Was a funny show as usual. I kind of like a whiff when I drive down the road ever since I saw that show. I am sure they took a whiff on the show too. RIP Phil.

Thought I'd beat Mike to it. I hear James Earl Jones passed, good guy and played the roles well. 93 , he lived a good life.

- ‘The Comedians’ (1967)
- ‘The Great White Hope’ (1970)
- ‘Claudine’ (1974)
- ‘Star Wars’ (1977), ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ (1980), and ‘Return of the Jedi’ (1983)
- ‘Roots: The Next Generation’ (1979)
- ‘Conan the Barbarian’ (1982)
- ‘Matewan’ (1987)
- ‘Coming to America’ (1988)
- ‘Field of Dreams’ (1989)
- ‘The Hunt for Red October’ (1990), ‘Patriot Games’ (1992), ‘Clear and Present Danger’ (1994)
- ‘The Sandlot’ (1993)
- ‘The Lion King’ (1994)
I saw all of them except The Comedians, Claudine, and Matewan. I should try to find The Comedians because it was based on a really good Graham Greene novel.

sorry, I couldn't resist one more post for the great James Earl Jones...
God Announces He Will Now Be Voiced By James Earl Jones TheBee (https://babylonbee.com/news/god-announces-he-will-now-be-voiced-by-james-earl-jones) ;)
HEAVEN — Though many have claimed to have heard the voice of God throughout human history, the Lord will now have a voice that is highly identifiable by all people, as a representative from Heaven confirmed that the deceased James Earl Jones has been contracted to play God's Voice for all eternity.
"It's a natural fit," said a spokesangel shortly after news of Jones's passing made the rounds. "The Lord blessed James Earl Jones with his awesome, booming voice with an eye toward using it for His glory well into eternity. Though Mr. Jones used his voice talent to garner fame and fortune during his time spent on earth, he will now use it in service to God Almighty."
Well-known for his roles in films such as Field of Dreams, The Lion King, and all three movies in the Star Wars franchise, James Earl Jones will now lend his authoritative and pleasant voice to God for whenever He really wants to get the attention of human beings. "Truth be told, there are times when his voice would have come in handy in previous years," the spokesangel continued. "Can you imagine how terrified Moses would have been if he had heard the voice of Darth Vader coming from the burning bush? Forget taking off his sandals, Moses probably would have needed a new pair of shorts."

Just read hitting machine Pete Rose died...83
may rest in piece... great player
-
Now he can be inducted as a player.
-
Poor Pete. I don't know what he would have had to do to ingratiate his way back into baseball, but his pride - or something else - wouldn't let him.
I'm probably wrong again, but I always think of Pete Rose bowling over plate-blocking catcher Ray Fosse to score the winning run in the 12th inning of the 1970 All-Star Game as the play that ushered in baseball as a contact sport. Fierce competitor, but there was an era where hard slides into the man instead of the base caused a lot of injuries, and it took MLB a very long time to get that back out of the game.
-
I read that the commissioner thought Rose was already so ingrained into betting that he would probably never change hence the life long ban.
-
Seen that Frank Fritz from America Pickers past away.
-
that's sad.. RIP
-
He was offered a pardon by Selig, all Pete had to do was quit gambling and associating with casino's. He (Rose) went directly from the MLB offices to a event in Vegas.
He got exactly what he asked for.

another one has passed on;
John Amos, patriarch on 'Good Times' and an Emmy nominee for the blockbuster 'Roots,' dies at 84

holy crap.......

When it rains it pours. Too bad too.

Seen that Frank Fritz from America Pickers past away.
Here is a great article on redemption. Everyone wondered about Frank leaving American Pickers and Mike took the high road - in hindsight while Frank was dealing with addiction and denial. Mike didn't take Frank's struggles public even though Frank threw him under the bus for "kicking him off the show." There is a great example here. And in the end, they were able to reconcile and they were together at the end.

I had heard that too, good post Steve-o!!!

Yup heard something was going on with him. Thanks Steve. Great article.
-
Went to the store a few years ago on our annual fall car cruise. This was after Frank had his stroke. Savanna is a pretty cool place to visit, an old railroad & river town with lots of history.
-
Frank and Mike did a show that featured a place in Waconia. The talk of the town is that they were both great guys and it was a good experience for all involved. Fun fact: There were other things the guys bought that they didn't put into the episode.

Big fan of them. I also have The Last Waltz on the DVR, and watch it every once in a while.

She was pretty popular in the 70's. Had some hits on the radio back then. Was pretty good.

Gene Hackman.....Gone at 95 years.
One of the best actors of the 70's and 80's. Made some great and memorable movies. French Conection. and maybe one of the best if not the best sports movies ever made.....
HOOSIERS.....

yes a good actor.. RIP
-
I liked a few of his movies. Always did a good job. RIP.
-
I read they found him, his wife and dog dead....
-
Since I'm from Indiana, originally, I liked him in "Hoosiers". He had a lot of excellent roles, though.
-
I read they found him, his wife and dog dead....
I read that too. "No foul play suspected" Sad deal.
-
Yeah, they're kind of tight lipped about it so far. With the dog dead too................we were wondering if it might've been from carbon monoxide.
-
What a great actor. He was fun to hate too. That is why he was so good at everything he did. RIP Gene.
-
Sad to hear of his passing. Enjoyed many of the roles he played, especially as Little Bill in Unforgiven, for which he won a supporting actor Oscar. I was wondering about the carbon monoxide thing too with the way it appears so far. Looked at the 3 day temperature log for Santa Fe. It's probable that they needed to use some supplemental heat with lows in the low 30's recently. Until something is official, that's only speculation. May they all rest in peace.
-
Yeah, they're kind of tight lipped about it so far. With the dog dead too................we were wondering if it might've been from carbon monoxide.

Crazy and sad case. We're goona have to wait for the investigation to complete. Strange indeed, but that IS Hollywood. :coffee:
-
Remember Robin and Mirriam? They both took poison and just laid in bed till the end. Sean Connery and Audrey Hepburn. Good ol show.
-
Lotsa things that don't add up or at least need to be tied together as a result of the investigation. I did find it sorta funny after reading about a couple of movies Gene Hackman said he regretted making. One of them was March or Die back in 1977. He was thrown off a horse and got injured while filming that one. I saw it when it was in the theater. Since Hackman was in it, I expected great things. It was slow moving, boring, and overall a clinker, just like he said.
-
Lots not adding up with this whole thing. Be interesting to see the reports when they are done. All speculation and BS news media at this point.
-

I heard an excerpt of an interview Kevin Costner did years ago in which he paid tribute to Hackman.
Kevin shared a clip from an old interview in which he recalled clashing with a director about a scene, only for Gene to approach him later to offer him reassurance.
Costner said in the video: “Gene was the best actor I’ve ever worked with... “He looked at me and said, ‘Hey, I went through a divorce, I’ve been doing a lot of questionable movies lately and when I saw you fighting for what you wanted today, it reminded me of how I used to feel about acting. It was good what you did.’ And he just got in his car and drove off.”
No question that Hackman was one of the all time great movie actors, but he also had the reputation as being tough to work with. (Understatement.) Obviously he was cognizant of his own decline towards the end of his career.
