BREAKING NEWS! The state of Utah joins Arizona in banning the use of trail cameras....
How do you feel about this? Is Minnesota next?

WTF!!! They will never get mine. :sleazy:

My oldest mentioned this Saturday when we were snowmobiling. If I remember correctly it was for six months from like june until december. Reason for it???? Will it happen here? Hope not. I enjoy looking at the pictures of the things that go "bump" in the night, or day while we're not around.

I read in Field and Stream the ban is from July 31 thru Dec 31.
I can see where cell phone cameras transmitting images during the season might strain the credulity of a fair chase hunt, but it seems a little Draconian to ban "low tech" trail cameras.
The also banned "Selling pictures or trail camera footage to aid in hunting." I'm not sure what they are getting at here. Perhaps they don't want high fence game ranches to be able to use trail cam shots in their sales literature. That is to say... "Come to our ranch and kill the big buck we call Blue Eyes. $10,000."

Might have to start hiding them even better in the woods! ;)

If that law passed in Minnesota, I can't believe anyone on this site would knowingly, willing break any fish and game laws, let alone boast about it beforehand. :tut:
;) :rotflmao:

My only experience is with the lower tech trail cams but I think the ones that send pics to your phone in real time might be a bit much.

I have a couple of those. Can't say it has made a difference for me.

The DWR voted to ban the use of both non-handheld transmitting and non-transmitting devices for use in the harvest or in the aid of harvesting big game between July 31 and December 31. According to the DWR, trail cameras are any device that does not need to be held or manually operated by a person. These devices are also defined as using heat or motion to trigger the camera.

I don't have any trail cameras. I do however have a lot of "security" devices.

Good point DE. Just watching for trespassers. :happy1:

Yup me too! Im gona catch that sum beech who keeps eating off my salt lick

The only difference they have made for me is to tell me not to hunt a spot because no meat has come by at all! The few big bucks I have had on cam over the years, only came out at night and I never saw them during the season! :undecided:
Well and if anyone else is out and about? I did have pictures of a guy carrying in bags of corn once.

I can see a ban on public land. I don't know how it could be enforced on land you own or lease.
-
I don't know... MN has always had some far broad-reaching interpretations for not being able to use radio or electronic devices to take big game - regardless if it is public or private land.
This years regs explicitly say, "Unattended electronic devices may not be used for taking wild game."
Your guess is as good as mine as to what those electronic devices are and how the are used.

My trail cameras identify as security cameras.
