My female chessy went in to labor on Friday night at 10:00pm By 4:30 am on sat morning I had 6 pups by 8:00 am on my way to vet. By 9:00 am went into emergency surgery. We took 8 more pups by C-section. we were able to save 4 of the 8. So yesterday had 10 living. Kept checking on her every hour but still lost 2 pups in the night from her laying on them. She is having a very hard time walking. The incision was a foot long and we were in surgery for 3hrs. So I think she just hurt to much and was still so groggy she laid on them. I sure hope the next 3 days go better.
I have been lucky up to this point 24yrs of breeding and this is my first C-section on a dog.
Anyone who has had to go through this I know how you feel.
UPDATE:
Now monday morning 1 of the pups temp is crashing so heated towels and wrapped her in it for 4hrs. and fed her by bottle. Ran to Rapids to get antibiotics for her. As of 5:30 pm monday evening she is showing signs of improvement.

Sorry you lost some of the pups. Is that pretty normal breeding to loose some? Also, do you have any pictures of the puppies?

Ask any breeder if a preg on a dog is normal . Sometimes the cards are just stacked against you. I have seen alot in my 24 yrs of breeding and my vet said I have been so lucky with not ever going through this before. Believe me anyone who wants to get into raising dogs must be very solid and have a solid stomach. Stress Kills
As for losing pups yes it is very normal in a normal delivery to loose a pup or 2. When a emergency C-section is involved the dog is already exhausted and she was in labor 11 hrs before we got her opened up to get the rest. also when the pups receive anesthesia that makes the odds against living ones greater. Why this happened we have no idea.

Really watch your female over the next couple of breeding because the older they get the slower that uterus contracts and she may run into the same problem as Tucker.
