Title: Big swelling on doe
Post by: deadeye on August 08/24/23, 03:38:31 PM
I've seen does with a similar swelling but never this big. Also, her leg and foot are swollen as well. Any ideas.

We had a deer frequent our yard earlier this summer that had a growth about that size in his back leg? He could hardly walk.

This?

The tumors look different, but this one from the WA State website also has a swollen hoof.

I had a buck with about 4 of those basketball blobs on him.  I wondered why he was walking so funny until he got near me.  No idea what it is but doesn't look fun.

Agree Mike.  I read these are mostly from some injury related cause.

Update on the doe with the big swelling.  I got a new trail camera picture of the doe.
This picture was taken about half a mile and across a swamp from the previously posted picture.
She doesn't seem too bothered by it.

Just spitballing but could that be hemorrhagic disease (EHD or Blue tongue)?  I(hopefully) doubt it but never seen it. I’ve heard they can have swollen body parts include legs and feet…however, this looks isolated to the chest area and legs, possible from an infection.
