Big game tonight at 9:00. Wolves and Denver for first place in the West. Winner should get the number 1 seed in the tournament.
ESPN and Ballysports.
-
First time in Minn Pro Sports History. A sweep of a 7 games series. Wolves sweep Suns 4-0.
Never done by the.....
Lakers
Northstars
Twins
Wild
Wolves
Lynx
Only downside was Timberwolves head coach ruptured his patellar tendon after colliding with guard Mike Conley late in the team's series-sweeping win over the Phoenix Suns Sunday night. Finch was helped off the court and later left the arena on a cart. The Timberwolves confirmed the nature of Finch's injury.
-
Next up.....
Wolves at Denver Thursday May 4 if Denver wins tonight.
or Saturday May 6 if the Denver/Lakers series goes 6 or 7 Games.
-
I dropped out at half-time, but it looked like the game was hard fought the whole way. Right before the half, the Suns seem to have the momentum and we're staying ahead of the Wolves. When in the game did that change?
-
Suns got it to 6 but it never got any more than that. They were still up 2 starting the 4th, T'wolves took a time out ~ 2 minutes into the 4th & they got Edwards & Towns back in then. The Suns then went 3+ minutes without a basket but the T'wolves didn't push the lead to 4 until there was only ~ 2 minutes left. A couple stupid fouls & turnovers by the Suns sealed it.
-
Edwards scored 40 points.....31 in the second half. :happy1:
Kat had 28 :happy1:
-
:happy1: They quit doubling Edwards all the time early in the 3rd quarter  & I think it made him mad. ;) He made his 1st 3 not long after that & hit 2 more before the period was over. Then when they started to come out to guard him, he started going to the basket. KAT was good from deep all game. Denver finished off the LAL last night, so it's the Nuggets on Saturday, time still TBD.
-
Ant man goes for 43 & Naz Reid had 14 of his 16 pts in the 4th while the T'wolves shoot 71% in the 2nd half  to take game 1 from the Nuggets. :cheerleader:
-
I didn't see that coming after the cold shooting 1/2 way thru the 1st and all thru the 2nd - but they kept it close at the half.
That technical foul on Ant was :bs:
I wish Kat would stay out of foul trouble.
-
Yeah, Murray's pistol shooting taunt towards KAT was way worse than the 1 Ant got the T for. :doah: It seems like either Gobert or Towns is in foul trouble every game. Their plan of continually switching between McDaniels, Towns, & Gobert guarding Jokic worked pretty good yday. He still had 32 but he was 11-25 & only 2-9 from deep.
-
Denver will adjust. What will the Whoofies do? We'll see soon enough.
-
Wolves have a much better bench. Denver wears out by the 4th quarter. Jokic outweighs Gobic and Kat and the refs let him elbow his way down the lane. BUT he never comes out for a rest and wears out. As long as they can stay close for 3 quarters they have a good chance.
-
Jokic had 7 TO's too, that doesn't usually happen.
-
T-wolves steal 2 in Denver :sleazy: :dancinred: :dancinred: :swords:
-
Boy, I didn't see this coming when they traded all those 1st-round draft picks for Gobert last year and the team was struggling to stay healthy enough to play together and form an identity.
My biggest grief with NBA basketball is the unwillingness and refusal of the greatest athletes in the world to play defense. Any season the Whoofies had talent and promise, they were one of the worst defensive teams in the league. :doah:
But, at least this year, with this team... this is something different.
My other gripe about the NBA is the way offensive players get away with lowering their shoulder into a guy when they drive the lane, and its a foul on the defense. Yeah, I know the rule, but it doesn't pass "my" eye test.
I don't know nothin about nothin, but I thought a key part of the game was the Whoofies giving Jokic a taste of his own medicine. He had to work for everything he got in game 1 and they went right at 'em in Game 2. The difference last night was the refs let 'em hammer on each other. It reminded me of the glory days of the Celtics/Lakers rivalry.

-
Great defense in the first half. Held Denver to 80 pts.....lowest of the season.
Wolves have the number 1 defense in NBA this season and playoffs. :happy1:
Yeah as I said above.....the refs let Jokic do whatever he wants down the lane. But last night Kat leveled a guy in the lane that was clearly an offensive foul and no call.
And then the Denver head coach was out on the floor nose to nose with the ref at the the free throw line. Should have been at least a technical and possible ejection.
-
Maybe its just the "homer" in me, but I thought the refs called more on the Whoofies in Game 1 than the Nuggets. Last night they "let 'em play" as they say. ;)
I loved Shaq's comment when they panel was arguing about all the charges (or not). Shaq said, "I won 5 rings running over guys." He wasn't lying.
The Whoofies have it all, they are big and physical inside, they have outside shooting, they play ferocious defense, and they rebound.
It was good to see KAT NOT get all wrapped up the drama of what refs were calling or not.
-
T'wolves got beat on the boards 50-42 but they hold Denver to 34.9% from the field while shooting 50% themselves. Turnovers were 19-12 in favor of MN & it was 39.4% to 30% from 3 in our favor. Murray, who killed 'em last year in the playoffs, got frustrated early because he couldn't get any calls. All that without the soon to be 4 time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Gobert. :cheerleader:
-
Yeah......Gobert had a baby boy yesterday in Minneapolis. :cheerleader:
-
If they just wouldn't start the games so darn late. I can't stay up till midnight to see the end. Have to watch the 4th quarter in the morning before I know the final score.
-
How can Murry throw a heating pad out on the floor during play into the mix of players under the basket and not get a technical foul and ejection???? Commissioner should suspend him for the next game. That's dangerous. And there is video showing him doing it. The cry baby shot 3 for 18 from the field.
"This wasn’t a game. It was a message. This was George Foreman–Joe Frazier. Mike Tyson–Trevor Burbick. Rocky Balboa–Clubber Lang."
-
 It looks like he avoided suspension but they're going to get a nice chunk of his cash. :bs: https://www.mprnews.org/story/2024/05/08/jamal-murray-fined-for-tossing-objects-onto-court-during-nuggets-timberwolves-game
-
:bs: :bs: :bs:
-
Yeah, this is starting to NOT pass the smell test.
Hopefully the Woofies are in control of the series, but if things go the other direction...
Game 1: Ant stares at a guy after a play, says nothing, and gets T'ed up. A Nugget shoots his finger guns after hitting a big shot over KAT and gets nothing.
Game 2: Coach runs onto the court and screams F-bombs into the ref's face and gets nothing. Murray throws a foreign object onto the court during play and gets nothing during the game.
If the refs don't get control of this series, and the Wolves continue to dominate, I worry it will get to be physical and chippy - like a at the end of a blow-out hockey game. Someone is goona get hurt.
-
Glad the Wolves are doing so good. We may watch the next game too. BUT it sure takes away from the Vikings talk and theory's on KFAN in the morning. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
Yeah, it is a rarity for a MN sports franchise to actually be selling "winning" this time of year instead of always just selling "hope."
-
:bs: :bs: :bs:
 I still wouldn't be shocked to see him draw a suspension at the beginning of next season, especially if it continues. :taz: A bit surprised the coach didn't get fined too. :doah:
-
NBA wasn't going to suspend Denver's best player when they are down 2-0 in a playoff series. :doofus:
Don't know how much he gets paid and if a $100,000 fine makes a difference. But it was the most a player can be fined.
-
I'm trying to remember... I thought there was a basketball or hockey playoff game in the not to distant past where a star player was suspended for a game.
I might try to see if I can dig that up.
-
 Not so sure Murray is Denver's best player  but he does avg 20 pts/gm & you're right, they're not going to suspend him with the Nuggets being down 2-0. :doah:
-

Here is what I was thinking of - the Draymond Green suspension in 2016. There is precedent for suspensions in the NBA playoffs.
5 Infamous suspensions that changed the course of the NBA Playoffs that year (https://www.sportskeeda.com/basketball/5-infamous-suspensions-changed-course-nba-playoffs-year)
#5 Zach Randolph - 2014 NBA Playoffs
#4 Patrick Ewing and co. - 1997 NBA Playoffs
#3 Alonzo Mourning - 1998 NBA Playoffs
#2 Amar'e Stoudemire and Boris Diaw - 2007 NBA Playoffs
#1 Draymond Green - 2016 NBA Finals
Golden State was in command of the series 3-1, but Green scuffled with LeBron James and Green hit James in the groin. Green was suspended for game 5, the Warriors gained the series momentum back, and the Cavs beat them in 7.

why??????? so it matter......playoffs or not. :angry2: :angry2:
what he did could of been dangerous!!!!!!!

I'll be VERY interested in seeing how the refs call Friday night's game.
I watched the Knicks/Pacer's game last night. Knicks up 2-0 in the series.
After the game, the Pacer's coach was b!tc#in' about the officiating. He said he was thinking about lodging a formal complaint with the NBA league office after game 1, but thought better of it. However, after game 2, he said he was going to do so - referencing one egregious shove in the back that wasn't called.
No foul was called on Josh Hart for this blatant shove on Haliburton (https://twitter.com/PBAinsider/status/1788400627846197323?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1788400627846197323%7Ctwgr%5Efc730fbe769bb619f50e35d365c00c4e67d4b902%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fnypost.com%2F2024%2F05%2F09%2Fsports%2Fpacers-complained-about-78-knicks-calls-to-nba-but-this-is-the-one-they-found-the-most-shocking%2F)
After the game, the TV broadcast panel was talking in general about calls in the playoffs. Shaq was talking about how the home team ALWAYS gets the calls in their favor in the playoffs - and good team have to figure out how to suck it up and win anyway. (And he ought to know about when fouls get called and when they don't)
So... I will be really curious to see if the Woofies get the benefit of the doubt and the home team advantage in the next game - ESPECIALLY after Murray's petulant and the coach's disrespectful behavior in game 2.
-
“I didn't actually see it happen, but when it was explained to me; the referees didn't see it either, so they're not able to issue technical unless they see it. There probably aren't many fans in the building who have a heat pack, so it probably had to come from the bench,” Finch told reporters on Monday night. “But yeah, it's inexcusable and dangerous. I'm sure it was just mistake and an oversight. I'm sure there was nothing intentional by the officiating at all, but you certainly can't allow that to happen.”
-
Just heard on the radio that the Wolves/Nuggets tickets for tonight's big playoff game is the toughest to get for a major sporting event in the last 40 years..
Starts at 8:30 tonight on ESPN. Should be a good one. Crowd should be really into it.
-
:doah:
;) Check out the ticket price in the nose bleed seats on the far right of the pic! :rotflmao: There a sucker born every minute.
-
I just checked... The price of those $13,000 courtside seats has dropped down to a mere $9,515.
This could be your best chance to rub elbows with Jimmy Jam or JLo. :rotflmao:
-
:puke: :puke:
-
Seriously... I'd love to hang with Jimmy Jam and talk sports and music and culture. JLo, not so much.
-
Edwards leads the T-wolves with 19 & Denver shoots 48% from 3, Mn goes down 117-90. Fans were leaving at the start of the 4th qtr. It's anybody's series now. :pouty:

DENVER - Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert was fined $75,000 for rubbing his fingers together in a money-sign gesture directed at the officials during Game 4 of the Wolves' second round series with the Denver Nuggets, the league announced Tuesday.
-
Gobert wasn't wrong.
Timberwolves draw referee Scott Foster for Game 4 against Nuggets (https://www.si.com/nba/timberwolves/minnesota-timberwolves-news/timberwolves-draw-referee-scott-foster-for-game-4-against-nuggets-01hxpsk61080)
Known as "The Extender" to NBA fans, teams with the lead in a series typically lose when referee Scott Foster is officiating. At one point in 2022, teams trailing in a series had a 19-2 record when Foster was in the building.
...and Foster has plenty of recent history with Minnesota. Foster issued a technical foul after Rudy Gobert gave him a money gesture for a foul in the final minute of regulation during a 113-104 overtime loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Mar. 8
So it looks like Rudy did again and this time instead of a Technical, the league slapped him with a fine. It is never good to show up the officials, even if they are on the take. :bonk:
I heard someone say in an interview yesterday that no one makes money in a short series. Mo' games = mo' money.
:queen2:
Owners want their luxury suites filled with all the beautiful people.

 :surrender: ROH.......roh..........timberwolves are in trouble!!!!!! :doah: :pouty:

The NBA is no more a legitimate sport than the WWE. The difference is I will watch the WWE.
The Wolves huffed and puffed through the first 2 games but ultimately they won't be able to blow Denvers house down. :rotflmao:
-
No doubt there is covert or overt slanting of the table to make sure series go seven games and the star players make it to the finals...
But if you want to be the big dog, you have to beat the big dog. Its an uphill battle to get to the top.
I only watched the first half and I still don't know how the Whoofies kept it close. They had to work for every bucket they got and the Nugs made it look easy. Their "secondary" players were draining 3s and getting slams while the Wooves next tier players were grinding and struggling.
-
Another Mn sports team going down in a fiery blaze. Were use to it.
-
I don't pay too much to the ebbs and flows of teams ascending and descending in the NBA, but I know they exist.
Often times, teams on the way up have to learn what it takes to get past the defending champs, and that can take a season or two. The wolves are certainly going thru those growing pains right now, but the question is, will the team stay together long enough to mature and develop to that championship level.
OR, you can be like the Knicks - who had a championship-caliber team in the 90s, but never made it to the finals because they kept running into Michael Jordan's Bulls.
-
The NBA is no more a legitimate sport than the WWE. The difference is I will watch the WWE.
Miracle the series made it to 6 games right? Not so fast grasshopper, this one has a game 7 coming.
-
Yeah, the only reason I'm interested in the Wolves this season is because A) they're local and B) this is the first Wolves team that I can ever remember that plays defense.
One of the big reasons I don't watch NBA basketball is because so many of the so-called stars refuse to play defense. Tibbs had a talented teams between 2017 and 2019 with Jimmy "Buckets" Butler, Towns, Andrew Wiggins, and Zach LaVine (1 year), but no one would play defense. (Yes, they traded LaVine to get Butler for that purpose.) Those guys get paid millions and millions and millions of dollars - and they say they want to win, and they probably do - but they want it to be on their terms, not the coach's. "Why should I listen to this guy when I'm 'building my brand' and make 10 times as much as him?"
The other reason is all the player-driven drama. Recall at the end of Tibbs' tenure that Butler forced his way out and Wiggins couldn't or wouldn't figure it out. It was a good team on paper; it just didn't work out. And those guys weren't the worst offenders. "Stars" like Kevin Durant, Kawhi Leonard, LeBron James, James Harden, and others opting in and out of teams, hunting elusive championship opportunities that don't pan, out or simply wishing to play with their buddies... No thanks. :coffee:
But for this season at least... Go Whoofies! :cheerleader:
-
The NBA is no more a legitimate sport than the WWE. The difference is I will watch the WWE.
Maybe the NBA/WNBA IS becoming the WWE - more spectacle than competition.

he's like the dog that chases cars... once he catches it he doesn't know what to do with it!!! :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :happy1:

Glenn may not know what to do with that but I've got some ideas. :sleazy:
-
I watched some of the game and couldn't believe how the Wolves were hitting every basket and the Nuggets weren't. Hard to even believe they won by 45. Were the nuggets resting up for the last game?
-
It is amazing how on any given night, one team can have the other team's number and soft of unprecedented that there hasn't been a competitive game in the series so far.
Hoping the wolves advance whether it be a close game or another blowout. You can't mess around with that Nuggets team. Or the Wolves. (at least this year ;) )
-
Denver can't play much worse than they did in Game 6 & the T'wolves can't play much better. So, I'm not very optimistic about the game tonight. Just checked & it's Denver -4.5.
-
They are still a MN sports team though. ;)
-
We will jump on the bandwagon and tune in.
-
Dallas beating Olk. City was good. If the Wolves can win tonight they would have Home Court with the Western Finals starting in Mpls. :happy1:
-
Wolves WIN!!!! 98-90
Finals start Wednesday vs Dallas in Minneapolis!!!
:party3: :party3: :party3:
-
I gave up at halftime. Pretty amazing comeback.
-
So what part of the final is it ? Final finals or semi finals...
-
Western Conference Finals....Wolves VS Dallas.
Celtics play Pacers in Eastern Conference Finals.
Wolves played 4 games on Defending Champions Denver's floor and won 3 of them. DEFENSE....4 wins over Denver, did not score 100 pts in any of them.
-
Ok the winner of these to game gose to tje show
-
T-wolves make NBA history by overcoming a 15 pt deficit at the 1/2 to win game 7. :happybounce: :party1: :cheerleader: Murray had 24 at the 1/2 but only had 7 more in the 2nd 1/2 after they put Edwards on him. Big games by KAT & McDaniels along with Naz Reid's 4th quarter when KAT was on the bench in foul trouble.
-
I remembered to tune in in the 4th quarter. What an ending. :happy1: :happy1:
-
Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals is at the Target Center tomorrow night. TNT has the coverage @ 7:30. :cheerleader:
-
Seen the Timberwolves lost last night! :pouty:
-
Ant-man & KAT were 12-36, the team went 11-18 from the line, & got beat on the boards pretty bad. Could've still won with another play or 2 at the end. :bonk:
-
see see the woofies won one last night!!!!!!!!!! :happy1: :happy1:
-
One of my brothers and my sister and I actually stayed awake and texted to each other during the game right till the end. Was great to see a win. So what color is Wolves cool-aid. You know me I drink purple cool-aid too. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
-
I don't follow knuckle drag at all. But listening to the fellas at work they claimed the mutts were picked to sweep Dallas, not so much it looks.
-
I can't watch a whole game. I switch back and forth to another show. In this case I was reading a good book on my Kindle with the sound down. I just looked up now and then. Turned it up when it got down to the nitty gritty. :sleazy:
-
Well, you were better off not watching last nights game. Season over.....Celtics vs Mavs. in the final. I could now care less. Done watching NBA for this season.
Wolves had a good season. But like every other Minn. professional team couldn't get it done. That is except for the Lynx. :pouty:
-
don't forget the gal hockey players... just sayin....
-
I tuned into the game and at one point they were down by 36 I believe. Hard to overcome that.
-
This is as gooda place as any to put it. Its old news, but it will be interesting to see what will happen with Lebron James playing with his son on the Lakers.
Lebron seems to have made sure the Lakers would draft Bronny, despite averaging just 4.8 points per game in his only year of college, and getting J.J. Redick hired as coach.
I'm no fan of players dictating what major sports franchise do - but that is the world we live in. Money talks and Lebron still moves the needle.
Besides - big picture... what else were the Lakers goona do? What's the difference if the Lakers "blow it up" and start over building a new team this year or two years from now after Lebron retires?
Actually, I'm kinda curious to see what it will look like when they are on the court at the same time.
-
They will never be on the court at the same time of a competitive game. That kid would not have been a star for the Gophers, in fact he might not have made the starting 5.
I have hated LeBron since he first popped up. He didn't do the kid or the Lakers or Riddick any favors. The only person he tried to help was LeBron.

'ZACTLY! That is why it is going to be so intriguing to watch. Kinda like watching the Blue Earth River erode the bank around the Rapidan Dam.
We all saw the buzz when Caitlyn Clark came into the league - positive AND negative. I don't thing all of that will be anything compared to soap opera that the Lakers will be next year. And don't anyone be surprised to find out that there will be 'secret' all access cameras filming everything next year - just in case things work out. ;) Coming to Netflix in 2025... "Bronny and Me"
-
LaBron would never accept second billing, not even to his son.
Coming soon...."LaBron & Son, the making of a below average NBA player.
-
I was a Lakers fan growing up. George Mikan. Then they moved to LA. Didn't bother changing their name. Lots of lakes in the LA area. I have since hoped they lose every game.

:surrender: :surrender: holy sheep sheet....not sure if this is true but just read the Timberwolves just traded KAT to the knicks!!!! WOW!!!!!
-
it's in the news too
-
One article I read gave the Knicks an A. They are all in this year to beat Boston and go to the finals.
The Woofies got a C. It was a cost saving move they say. In my opinion, it is better to trade a guy one year too early than one year too late. There is concern that he is often hurt.

dang........timberpuppies are on the #11. mommas not home and i get to watch 3 football games and a BB from the comfort of my recliner!!!!!!! :happy1: :happy1: :party1: :happybounce: :blues brothers:

I'm not a basketball guy at all, especially NBA. But the radio program I was just listening to did a thing on the Wolves and why they are .500 this year after tearing it up last year. This guys take was the Wolves traded the better player (KAT?) because the other guy was untradable. I don't know if thats true or not. He also said some guy named Randle is just a dog and only plays during contract years. Chemistry seems to be the problem.
I'm thinking this 3 on 3 stuff I see on TV might be the undoing of the NBA and their egotistical players. Why teams let the players dictate when they play is beyond me. The inmates truly are running the asylum in the NBA.

But there's still a lot of money on the table for everyone... so the beat goes on. TV ratings are really tanking tho.

Does anybody know what a ticket to a Wolves game costs these days? Last game I was at was at the Metrodome. I was in the Bob Uecker seats in the "top row" and the players looked like little toy army guys running around.
-
i know there isnt many, if any, NBA followers here, but it's all over MSN, SportsCenter, even brought up during the gophers game, but one time Timberwolves player, Jimmy Butler, who plays for Miami now has been suspended from the team for 7 games because of conduct detrimental to the team. and is on the trading block.
not sure any team would really want him. a helllofa basketball player but a total :moon:wipe!!!! he was when he was here! self centered jerk!!!!!!
-
NBA should suspend a bunch of those guys for being detrimental to the game. But yes Jimmy is extra special for sure.
I'm leaning more and more towards all the athletes of the major 4 sports being on a year to year contract vs these long term deals. Pay them their boatload of money and participate in an insurance policy with the player that if they get hurt they are protected. But at the end of the year both the team or player walk away. Have a great year and you are a free agent. Be a tool and you're taking a pay cut the following year.
-
Oh & Glenn.... I would watch a PJ Fleck marathon of football games for 24 hours before i'd watch 5 minutes of an NBA game. ;)

I just looked, db, & their next home game is against the LA Clippers. According to ESPN the cheapest tickets available is $16 but when I click on the ticket info it says they're $23 with fees included. It looks like all those tickets are for the corners of the upper level too.

Since this is a basketball thread I have a serious question.
Do NBA fans view todays game as a real sport or more as entertainment along the lines of WWE and wrestling? Both with amazing athletes but the tables tilted towards the stars. Opinion?

Today is the deadline for the arbitrator to announce who will own the team: Glenn Taylor or Mark Lore and Alex Rodriquez.
This from an SI "insider" blogger: Wolves insider says 'high-ranking' Glen Taylor hires are interviewing elsewhere (https://www.si.com/nba/timberwolves/minnesota-timberwolves-news/wolves-insider-says-high-ranking-glen-taylor-hires-are-interviewing-elsewhere-01jkk447rbcb)
Is it an indication that Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez are going to win in arbitration?

A-Fraud won. Now you will see what everybody wished for. He will do nothing that doesn't enrich him. Winning will be the last thing on his mind. Moving or extorting a new building will be the first.

... which the good people of Minneapolis and Minnesota will be glad to hand over to them. We Minnesotans are afraid we're goona miss out otherwise. :bonk:

The guy (I won't call him a man) has no morals or intergrity. I wouldn't trust him with my enemies last dollar.
