survivor or spousal benefits and those who want to change there DD info will no longer be able to verify it over the phone.

anyone unable to prove there identity onlime mustvisit an office in peerson.

the changes do not appy to those collecting or applyig to SSDA, medicare or supplemental security income!!!

my wife has been on hold for 3 hours on the phone...........thanks DOGE!!!!!!

This from CBS:  Trump's changes to the Social Security Administration have many seniors alarmed (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-changes-social-security-administration-seniors-alarmed/)

I quote:  The average wait time for Social Security calls has doubled in the last six months to 104 minutes.

Last six months?   Can't blame Trump. :rotflmao: Can't blame DOGE.   Maybe there is some fraud, waste, and abuse down at the Social Security office that is keeping them from being able to answer phones in a timely fashion.   ;)

I was gonna say, it took me numerous extra hours longer getting signed up last fall than it should have. I was stuck on hold getting questions answered before I could proceed with my online application. I hung up at least twice because I had stuff to do. Some of the language in the application was as clear as mud & required clarification. Once I got answers, it was a piece of cake. The individual was extremely helpful.

Well instead of sitting on-line waiting for help or calling and sitting on hold forever how about ya hop in the car and drive over there? Theres several offices across the state that handle questions with real live people. I understand the younger generation not being able to hold a real conversation or make a live appointment but you old guys should know how.

Glen you are becoming like a old bitty gossiping across the back yard fence.   :rotflmao:

Yes your right Steve-o,  the strib had a article a couple weeks ago stating a they have had a big problem with fraud,  for life of me I can't remember the figures, it was big. I'm hip to what they are doing, just wish the investors seen it their way...

My experiences with SS in person visits is that they take more time than dealing with them over the phone. At least if you’re on hold you can do something else while you wait. The Hibbing office seemed to be staffed by about 3 people and was always overwhelmed. I also had occasional to visit Brooklyn Park once they had more employees , but a big crowd. Took several hours.

I recommend keying some dude's Tesla.  That'll help.

There was this article:  Star Tribune:  Woman allegedly drew $360K of her late mother’s Social Security since 1999 (https://www.startribune.com/woman-allegedly-drew-360k-of-her-late-mothers-social-security-since-1999/601203914)

Federal documents allege she collected monthly retirement payments for 25 years after her mother died.

The SS people in Bemidji were awesome.  I did the in office visit cuz I was so excited to get things rolling right before I retired.  Went great.  After that phone calls were quick and very friendly.  Excellent people to work with.

When I signed up two years ago the only way you could get signed up was over the phone. They wouldn't allow you to do it in person. This was two years ago at the Mankato office. I will say it went well over the phone, the rep I dealt with was very helpful. Within a couple years the warden will need to do it so we'll see how that goes.

I had to do something at the Bemidji office also. Was very easy process with great employee that I dealt with. I also had to visit the St. Cloud office once and that went very smooth also.

Think I talked to someone at the SS office in Mankato. I'd attempted to register online & when I got to one portion of the application, the website ran me around in circles. The guy I contacted told me what I needed to do and if it didn't work, he started an application for me on the phone then scheduled me for an appt. to sign up in person if they didn't see the confirmation come through their office 1st. After getting it done online thanks to his help, I received notification it was complete and within a few weeks, confirmation that it was accepted & I was good to go. Was a little nervous as it was pretty quiet for a while until I saw that first deposit show up. After the hassles she had, the wife was dumbfounded that I'd pulled it off so quickly.

I looked into my benefits and starting date long before I was able to start getting a check, so I had an online account early on. Then about 6 months before I could start getting a check, I walked in the SSA office in Austin when we were home visiting mom. I was the only applicant in the office, so we filled out the application then & there. I was walking back out in ~ 15 minutes. That was probably the fall of 2016 & in January of 2017, which was ~2 months early, I got a notice from them confirming what the amount was & when to expect the 1st check.  :happy1:
