Some of you here have no interest in this issue,BUT I assure you there is a much larger agenda@hand you should be concerned with,we non-natives are funding these native groups with our tax$$$$$,its sickening knowing they get millions from the casinos too boot.

LISTEN closely to this this  :censored:~This is the mentality we are dealing with (or lack of)

you all need to be pissed at the feds! not the DNR. the DNR are doing there best to make a very bad situation better. the DNR has absolutely no control of the tribal netting. its the feds that gave them the right, and we cannot change that. if you have a problem with that, contact the president  him self, because he is the only one that can change this ruling of the treaty.

Actually thats not true, you'll need to read the 1837/1998sub cat~ treaty, the "state has the autority to intervene when it becomes a conservation issue" as of today they refuse, therefore we have a law suit@hand Our dnr is managing the lake for the netts,we non-natives are paying for this feasco.

Oh,and we have sent letters to the president, his reply was he will enpower the american natives in anyway he can! This is and always has been with our federal tax dollars, everyone around this issue tippy toes around it,worried about being PC,say one word negitive about netting and your labeled "racist",this issue isn't about race, color or religion, its about doing the right thing, commercially gill netting in these modern times with modern equipment is flat out irresponible, taking some walleyes for cultual or religion beliefs is one thing,no problem, but when we have 6 tribes from other states pilaging our lakes during spawn is a tragity as proven in years past on Minnesota lakes, canada and other states around the country.

FYI,for those that have'nt followed this issue, mille lacs lake walleye population is @ a all time low, thats why we have such a restricted slot and daily limits for us non-natives,we are the ones sacrificing here along with the folks that live in the communities around the lake that depend on tourism to survive.

Kinda sorry for my morning rant~

BTW,WE sportsmen/women would be here fighting this if it were germans, swedes etc gill netting our lakes,it just so happens we have special regs for a select group here.

The law suit written~

Lawsuit Against DNR: Erick Kaardal Attorney for Save Lake Mille Lacs Sport Fishing.
On April 24, 2014 -- Erick Kaardal, attorney with Mohrman, Kaardal and Erickson, announced the filing of a lawsuit against the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
Kaardal is representing Save Mille Lacs Sportfishing, Proper Economic Resource Management (PERM), Twin Pines Resort, Bill Eno, and Fred Dally.
We are petitioning the Court of Appeals for a declaratory judgment on the invalidity the DNR's Game and Fish rules for Mille Lacs Lake Fishing published on April 21.
The lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of the new rules on the grounds that they violate Minnesota's Preserve Hunting and Fishing Heritage amendment, which recognizes a cultural heritage of all Minnesota citizens regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, or origin.
The lawsuit also seeks a Court order requiring the DNR to show the following:
• Why the DNR failed to consider cultural heritage protections afforded by the Minnesota Constitution and the public-trust doctrine.
• What statutory authority gives the DNR the right to disregard the cultural heritage protections afforded by the Minnesota Constitution.
• How the DNR has not mismanaged the Mille Lacs Lake walleye population directly affecting the cultural heritage of Mille Lacs Lake in violation of the cultural heritage protections afforded by the Minnesota Constitution.
We are challenging DNR's mismanagement of the Mille Lacs lake walleye fishery that has led to the loss of Mille Lacs walleye fishing heritage.
Key to understanding this lawsuit is that Minnesotans in 1998 passed a law, a constitutional amendment that preserves Minnesota's fishing and hunting heritage. However, DNR regulations regarding Mille Lacs fishing, violates this constitutional requirement.
It is important to note that this amendment came out of Minnesotans' long-standing recognition of a public trust doctrine. The public-trust doctrine is a key tenant of environmental protection advocates nationwide.

This is from today's Mille Lacs Messenger:

“I have a case to improve the efficiency of the DNR,” said Kaardal, who then explained four specific changes the appeal hopes to enact.
First is to get rid of the night fishing ban announced in the DNR’s rules published April 21. Second, each further rule enacted by the DNR must have findings of fact regarding Mille Lacs Lake fishing heritage, and any further statewide fishing and hunting rules must have findings of fact, and finally, with respect to Mille Lacs Lake and treaty obligations, it is particularly important to get findings of fact.

fishpole,

Good to see you made it over to MNO,thanx for posting, now the question is "do you have your video camera rolling now that the netts are in?" I here the gov't trucks are in town as well.

Are the netters setting camps up on our public landing again this year?

I don't think it's going to be worth any of the Wisconsin bands' time to come to Mille Lacs this year. The other Northern Minnesota Band is fishing the NorthEast Corner this year, so I think it's gonna be mostly locals from the Mille Lacs Band for what they are going to be getting of the 17,100 lb. tribal allowance this year. At four fish a net, with alot of the females already being reported to be spawned out, it'll take them til opener to reach that.

When we have a late ice out like we have this year, (and last) and a lake full of baitfish, alot of walleyes have already done their thing and are returning to the deeper water well-fed. They never schooled up like they do when they're hungry and trying to push the baitfish onto rockpiles or shallows to feed.
That's also going to make them hard to catch this spring, because with that and the clearer water, they'll be spread out along the deeper reefs and basin areas sooner.
Not as vulnerable.

Thats good news fishpole, its a blessing what few fish are left(walleyes) had a chance to spawn out,and hopefully the late ice out will keep the 6 wisc bans outof Mn again this year~

I'm thinkin' best case scenario, guys. There's alot of ice out there, yet, but the water's been right.
