Another summer weekend is in the books, and I hope they start slowing down so we can keep enjoying the open water season! It has been an extremely busy couple weeks here in the Brainerd Lakes Area, and the fishing has been pretty good. I have been spending quite a few days on Gull Lake and for the most part it has been pretty fun. Here is the quick rundown on some ways to put some fish in the boat this week.
If you are after walleyes don’t be afraid to fish shallow. We have found the fish using the green cabbage weeds during all times of the day, and they are not alone. Fishing the inside pockets and points of these weed beds will produce a rod bending experience for all species. I like to use an ⅛ ounce Kenkatch Jig with a Berkley Ripple Shad to pitch into these weed pockets. A second option is a slip bobber and a leech, this will hold the bait in the ambush zone longer. When searching out these weed beds, always fish the windy areas of the lake first and you should find some active fish.
If panfish are your desire, these same cabbage beds will hold active fish. Find weed beds that are nearby spawning areas, and start fishing from 2 feet all the way out to 15 feet of water. Search around until you locate some active fish, and then key in on that depth. It is important to be versatile because these fish are moving depths and location by the hour and weather patterns.
Enjoy this week, even with the goofy weather. Some lakes to check out this week would be Round Lake, North Long, Edwards, Hubert, and Gull Lake. These lakes have been good for multi-species action. Give us a call at Leisure Outdoor Adventures, and come spend a day enjoying the Brainerd Lakes Area.

Just returned from a week in the Emily area. The panfish are biting on Lake Emily. We caught enough right off the dock for a respectable fish fry. Fish were being regularly taken off shore from Hwy. 6 down close to downtown Emily. Another good spot was the bridge are on the river between Lake Emily and Lake Mary. Lots of panfish taken by another crew from our resort fishing over in Lake Mary.
