I've always walked out to the deer stand in the dark. No flashlight, just let my eyes adjust to the low light and go. Ran into a few critters on the way, but most are more afraid of you, and get out of the way. My daughtets and son use lights. It's just preference to me I guess.

Wished we were sittin around a campfire for my stories! I will shorten em up LOTS cause I aint a typer.
1973 I lived in Colo.North of Idaho springs at the base of St.Marys glaceir.I lived on silver lake at 10,500 ft elevation. (Go to BING MAPS and type in St.Marys glacier in Colo.) At that time I was the only person in 6 miles living there,6 miles down the FallRiver road was a neighbor A dentist in IdahoSprings,Robert Hickum still talk to him at times.
Anyway I used to hear and see in June an July people, few at that, that come up to play on the glacier a dangerous place with ice cliffs of 30-50 ft dropping off to boulder fields on its end and west side.
In Sept & Oct NO one came up SNOW was to deep but friends hunting came,WE saw through weak binocks some one?? or something traveling the glaciers top.I saw that 3-4 times in the 3 1/2 years I lived there. 1973 elk hunting I scored, we walked the 2-3 miles down hill back to the cabin an my chev blazer 4 wheel drive to drive back up to get the 5X6 bull elk.
Had to drive maybe 12 miles around the peaks to get near the site.
Now I had seen what was spose to be extinct in Colo a few times wolverine and once a lion. Once we got to 2-300 yards of the kill site we set off on foot to 1/4 the elk and drag 1/4s back to the chev on tarps.
WE got there and the elk was broke in half front half laid there rear half was destroyed and found 200 300 ft. both hind 1/4s were void of meat just the back 1/2 of each leg. we looked at tracks just like HUGE human tracks going off into the pines at the tree level.The elk probably weighed 4-500 lbs dressed so whatever made those tracks carried off 200 to 250 lbs>>Wasnt drug carried! 2-300 yds then striped of meat.
I used to travel those mountains with a 22 rifle shootin Ptarmigan an Pikas on a HarlyDavidson SX 250 dirtbike. Had a scabbard for the 22 went and bought another for the 30-30 and never went up there again without a heavier rifle.
Next story is Mn river valley and I shined a ape like creature at 3 AM catfishin. Me the ole girl an little dog Left our gear there and left till light!! we split and didnt care about nothin cept gettin outta there!!

YEP HD i was always the same, no lights just let my eyes adjust to low light.Never had a bear,cat,any animal do anything but run, NEVER! Those reality shows spook the city folk and instill fear then wit the net that false fear spreads so fast!!!!!!

Walking out one time before sunrise, I did have a bear on the same trail that reared up on it's back legs. At first glance in low light, could have been Bigfoot.....but, nope....I yelled back at it, it dropped to all fours and ran away. Was a little unnerving. But, that was the only time.

One night at the exwifes camp there was a bunch of us sitting by the fire and across the river something started yelping like a dog being tortured within a couple of seconds something started making the same noise about 100 yards down river then the screeching starred on our side of the river behind us in the woods. We all looked at each other and without saying anything we all went inside for the night. Another time On a cool fall night at camp we had the porch light on, as I went to get something to eat I thought I saw someone standing on the porch by the door with a brown coat on. When I took a second glance I noticed that it wasn't on the porch but standing on the ground. The porch deck is about 3 feet off the ground which would've made whatever was standing next to the porch about 8 to 9 feet tall. As I was walking over to the corner of the living room where I kept the rifle it kept stepping back against the building so I couldn't get a good look at it, almost if it was hiding from me. Even though I had a loaded rifle I never went outside to check on it (too chicken). The next day I was telling the neighbor what I saw and he asked me about what time of the night and I said about 11:00 11:30. He said atound that time the dogs were laying by the door growling but every time he tried putting them out they would just lay there and growl never wanting to go out

ok. two seasons ago while bear hunting late season, I was sitting is stand and I heard 3 tree knocks, Bang bang bang. quite aways off, cool I said the about 15 min. late again, three knocks but closer. 15-20 mn again but closer. this whent on for about an hour or so the nothing for quite awhile. the last half hours of shooting light, I heard it again, and it was about 100 yards off, really close, then I started to get nervous, but the thing that in the back of my head kept saying, its to rythum like, to human made, always 3 and always in succession. no irradic pause or mis cue. so I figured it was human and walking thru the woods, doing tree knock, spooking anyone that might out hunting or watching deer.then right at the end of shooting light, I heard the bear I was hunting comethru the brush and and enter an opening on the far side of the bait but couldn't see him but I hear him, just then another series of knock at about 50 yards came again. I didn't hear the bear leave, but I did. I got down and left quickly and quietly as possible. then as I was about 50 yards away I heard the knocks again, and they came from my bait site. I had been hunting that bear hard for two weeks and never seen him again. Ive scared a bear off the pile and he went nocturnal, didn't like the human intrusion and there was a food source so he stuck around but only came in under darkenss. this bear just left. no coons came back either, I didn't go back to get the camera for 5 days, I coudlnt hunt anymore and really almost didn't wanna.lol. when I view the sd card, with in those 5 days the site was completely void of any life. no chip mucnks, no squirles, no coons, which when they find a site, they don't leave it alone, ever, till the food is gone for good. and no bear, which I figured would turn nocturnal. nothing. I was pretty quiet in leaving. but something scared the life out that site. creepy.

Freaky stuff fellas. Tell you the truth I don't deer hunting, just birds. Well anyhow I got introduced to grouse hunting in the late 80s and had a blast. Fast forward a bunch of years and a buddy I duck and pheasant hunt with we decided to head to the northern part of the state to hunt the area I hunted before. So after looking at the map book I believe I found the the trails we walked. We left Friday afternoon hoping to maybe get some road hunting in looking for that particular trail, we didn't see any birds but I believe we found where we wanted to be. So the next morning having that duck hunter's thought we figured to be the first to the trail let's get there early. Instead of parking at the beginning we drove down the trail to the end , well it's plenty dark yet, shut off the truck and sipped on coffee. With us is my springer and his weimaraner which his dog is a good bird dog but loves to battle with anything in its way. Well you could feel the truck move from the dogs getting restless but all of a sudden something slammed into the side of my truck....Wth was that. We couldn't see nothing out the window or mirrors so we got out, I thought maybe a deer hit us , while my buddy went to let his dog out I grabbed the 12ga, well both dogs after opening the kennel doors wouldn't even come out...probably a good thing. Whatever hit us hit high on the topper not damaging anything really but you could hear busting sticks going thru the woods. We got the hell otta there!!!

Ok Now I have been hunting deer with a bow for quite a few years. I took a deeer with my compound and decided to try and take a deer with my recurve. About 5 years ago a cougar seemed to move into the area. Several trusted locals had seen it and it totally ruined my hunting as I did not feel safe out there in the woods knowing I could be the one getting hunted. Now you guys have gotten me all riled up with these stories. How am I going to feel safe out there now :doah:

This isn't scary just funny. A friend of mine had a Big Foot costume for Halloween. Well they live on a farm. His brother in law had just called and said he was going to head out to the farm to hang out for awhile. This friend of mine hurried and put the Big Foot costume on. (He is a big guy too) He hid in the woods and when he saw the brother in law coming down the road he stepped out of the woods and walked across the road right in front of him. He turned and looked at the vehicle and kept on walking into the woods on the other side of the road. After the vehicle was out of sight he went back to the barn and changed into his clothes and went into the house where the brother in law was sitting with my friends wife. He was white as a sheet and didn't say much. He didn't stay long and left but drove the other direction on his way home. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: To this day this guy has never mentioned the Big Foot encounter to anyone. :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: The poor guy probably has nightmares from it but they have never told him it was a joke.....

That's a good one LPS. Reminds me of aprank my brother in law & his buddies pulled off. They were home from college and decided to take a couple of girls out spotting deer, they had 2 of their other buddies and one of their girlfriends waiting in a field. When they lit the field up with the spotlight the guys started dragging the girl by her legs covered in fake blood. The girls in the car started freaking out so they left and went to McDonald's to tell them it was a joke, well went they got there the one girl went to the bathroom and called the state police. After a long explanation and calling the other people involved the police gave them a warning and told them that they were a little too old to be doing things like that. The part I thought was funny was the guy who thought up the prank is now a priest.

the best I can come up with is........opening weekend of firearms deer season. pretty nice day. my stand was about 500 yards from a lake with a small ravine leading towards the lake. all of a sudden, and its well into the day, I hear this scream, think cat/cougar snarl, coming from this ravine. I think I pooped rubber nickels the rest of the day!!!!! I am sure it may have lasted only a half hour or so but seemed like 2 hours. my legs where shaking. don't think I blinked for 3 hours watching that area waiting to see what would come out of that ravine. I never did go look in that ravine for any signs.
later my dad came by. he said he ran into another hunter and asked dad if he heard that cat. he asked me also, so I told him it was down in that ravine. he did say they where quite aways away when they heard that!!!!!!

i believe in the possibility., but people are seeing something out there. of course ther are misidentification sighting than any other, but then ther are the one that cant be explained any other way. if a bear dont wanna be seen you want see him, how many monster bucks are noctunal only. if a creature thats highly intelegent as they say this one is. if it dont wanna be seen. it wont be but by chance. why havent we seen remains in the woods? dont take long for decomposition and critters to scavange parts and sactter them. if they exist, it aint a specicies of half a million in one state alone like deer....... think of this, they estimate mn black bear population at 18,000 to 20,000 and life expectancy between 10-15 years on a high end an some up to 20.how many of you have come across a black bear carcass in the woods. now a highly intelegent species, with primate genetics òf life expectancy to be much much higher, with very low breedi g populations scatterd across the us and canada, in verry remote regjons. you might as well play the lottery in relation to finding a carcas while hunting. during a very short window of hunting opportunity. just food for thought

Yes yetti's r pretty thick in 2017, they must live a heck of a long time and somehow it's the males that have the offspring as I've never seen any mother yetti or kids do they have triplets in an easier winter ? Darrel Whitaker, from Glenwood Springs in Colorado, claims a sasquatch attacked him and attempted to rape him while he was walking in the woods.
The 57-year old man was walking to his hunting cabin on Sunday, to see if it had suffered any damage during the winter.
All of a sudden, a large “gorilla-like” creature dropped from a tree in front of him punched him in the face.
“It was at least 8-foot tall and it’s punches hurt like hell! I was knocked right out at the first blow!”
While Mr. Whitaker was trying to recover from the attack, the large humanoid creature began to tear his clothes while letting out some terrifying howls.
“When I regained consciousness, he had already torn my pants and was tearing through my underwear. I stabbed him in the shoulder with my hunting knife, and that made him run away.”
Mr. Whitaker immediately reported the attack to both the Glenwood Springs Police Department (GSPD) and the Colorado Parks and Wildlife agency, and a joint investigation has been launched.

Investigators found some extremely large footprints on the site, which they believe are those of the aggressor.
Darrel Whitaker is convinced that the creature who attacked him was a sasquatch, but the GSPD investigators say it’s more probable that the attacker is simply a particularly large and hairy man.
They are currently interrogating nearby residents to see if anyone noticed an individual corresponding to the description of the suspect.
According to the victim, the attacker measure around 8-foot tall and is extremely hairy. He has brown hair, dark brown eyes and extremely large feet.
If you possess any information concerning the suspect, please contact the Glenwood Springs Police Department or the Colorado Parks and Wildlife agency.

Hunter thought he was firing at Bigfoot, 'victim' tells police
A Montana man who was out target shooting became a target himself when another shooter unloaded a barrage of gunfire on him after mistaking him for Bigfoot, authorities said.
The 27-year-old shooter told authorities that he was putting up targets outside Helena on Sunday when bullets started flying toward him, Lewis and Clark County Sheriff Leo Dutton said, according to the Idaho Statesman.
One round came within three feet of the victim and another whizzed by even closer, he told police. The man said he ran behind nearby trees for cover and eventually confronted the shooter, who was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck.
“I thought you were Bigfoot,” the victim says the shooter told him, according to Dutton. “I don’t target practice — but if I see something that looks like Bigfoot, I just shoot at it.”
Once the man assured the gunman that he wasn’t Bigfoot – an ape-like creature said to inhabit wooded areas in the Northwest – the shooter advised him to wear an orange vest in the future.
But Dutton noted that “there was some question about the veracity of the report” because the victim who spoke to police a day after the alleged incident couldn’t provide a physical description of the shooter.
Police checked the area but didn’t find the pickup truck, ABC Fox Montana reported.
After local media reports of the man's story, a woman came said she had a similar experience where she had been shot at by a man in an F-150 as well.
“We’re working to find this person,” Dutton said. “It is of great concern that this individual might think it’s OK to shoot at anything he thinks is Bigfoot.”
If the reports are true, the shooter could face charges, Dutton said.
But the chief said he didn’t think the public at large was in danger, noting that “it seems to be a localized event to one geographic area."
According to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, there have been 46 sightings in Montana since 1978 — the most recent being in 2016, when three backpackers spotted a large, massive upright animal running on two legs through the Gallatin National Forest.

Mr. Burns and his son were convinced they were facing a couple of sasquatches, folkloric creatures said to be hairy, upright-walking, ape-like creatures that dwell in the North American wilderness.
“I know there aren’t any apes around here, but this is Bigfoot territory. We really thought this was our chance to kill one and finally prove they exist.”
The two men fired eight shots, hitting Mr. Mumford three times in the shoulder, the leg, and the abdomen, and hitting Ms. Smith twice in the thigh and the forearm.
Fortunately, the couple started screaming and swearing after getting shot, helping the hunters realize their mistake and call 911.

Jarod Burns and his son fired eight shots in the couple’s direction, believing they were a couple of mating sasquatches.
The adventurous couple was transported to Barnsville hospital where doctors were able to stabilize their condition and no longer fear for their lives.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, and criminal charges could eventually be filed against the negligent hunters.
Despite this unfortunate accident, Jarod Burns remains convinced that sasquatches exist and says he won’t hesitate to kill it if he sees a real one.

We did a cruise to Big Fork and then back to Wirt on 14. Went south on 29 a few miles first and then back to Wirt. We also went north to Wildwood. Beautiful country.

Pretty sure the guy I pulled out of the ditch a few winters back was a sasquatch. It was dark out, he was hairy, real tall, grunted a lot and smelled like jerky. Was out and about day before yesterday when I ran across what is apparently a parent and young sasquatch. Taken thru the windshield while driving I had to snap it quick before they ambled off into the trees. Again, this was near the Le Sueur River where there appears to be a breeding population. dogs. I could even see vapor from its breath. I don't think it could see mine because I was not breathing. I didn't smell anything and didn't expect to, as it was downwind. I could feel the 12-gauge's barrel getting pushed further into the small of my back as cousin Don was positioning himself with me directly between him and the creature. It seemed aggressive at first, but it did not get any closer than 30 feet. Like it wanted to send a message, which my cousin and I read loud and clear. We were not invited, so get the heck out of there!
I was now ready for a hasty retreat as my legs started to finally move and the brain cramp I experienced seemed to lessen. As I turned around to leave, Don and I kind of got crossed up. We scrambled back over the ridge and ran for at least a quarter mile before we stopped.
Don was hysterical. For a guy with a back as wide as a house, the screaming and tears just did not fit. I was trying to calm him down, at the same time trying to understand what we had seen. As we both calmed down, and weak legged from just running the 440 along with the loss of adrenaline, we kind of just fell on our backsides. After a few choice words between two teenagers, we came to the conclusion that it probably was just a bootlegger in a gorilla suit. That was just a show to mind us to stay away from some hidden moonshine still. Why we didn't shoot it was also discussed and we both agreed that it didn't seem right. We are experienced hunters and you just don't shoot to be shooting, and as far as we knew this think was not in season. It also looked too human. I looked into the Bigfoot phenomena by purchasing the book 'Bigfoot' by Ann Slate and Alan Berry. The accounts described by Alan gave me solace that I was not alone. Others were experiencing the same encounters. My conclusion still shifted back to the moonshiner theory, even as I felt the gorilla costume seemed to fit the moonshiner too well.
So that's the story we told our relatives. Even though it never seemed right or fit the experience, that's the way I saw it. I left the area to go back to college after that. Never really returning. My brother built a house not 300 yards from where we had the encounter, and I plan to visit the spot from time to time. I guess in one way to hope for a chance encounter and in another way to relive the one I had.
