Title: Shimano Story
Post by: Fawkinnae on December 12/13/18, 03:08:01 PM
Around the end of November I shipped 3 reels to Shimano for cleaning. For $25 bucks a piece they will thoroughly clean and grease your reel for you and I had been having problems with one of the reels, actually the newest one. All three are Symetre's. I clean and grease my reels pretty much every year but the two oldest reels are at least 15 years old (probably closer to 20).

I called and they said this is their busiest time of the year and the reels probably won't be returned until early January. Anyway a delivery showed up yesterday with my name on it. From Shimano. I'm thinking, "Wow that was quick." Open up the package and inside is a brand new Shimano reel - model NASCI ($110 buck new) - no charge. Nothing else.

My guess is it is intended to replace the problem reel. Or maybe they really loved the FAWKINNAE bumper sticker I sent them, or maybe just in the spirit of giving.

It will be interesting to see what I get back when they return the repair reels.
Merry Christmas Sports Fans!

Shimano is great. A few years back, I had two reels that had issues, one was just "rough" turning (I strip, clean and repair reels....used to do it on the side) and the other had a small crack starting at the seat base. THREE days later, there's two new reels on my step, each with an extra titanium spool included.....no charge.  :happy1: It's Shimano or Pflueger for me, or nothing at all.

Follow up to the reels I shipped for cleaning. The 2 additional reels that were cleaned showed up about a week ago, shortly after I got the free new reel. Included was a statement for $25 bucks but it also said I would be receiving an invoice. Have not gotten anything yet. I expected a bill for $25 x 3 = $75 + shipping. So far I have only seen $25 bucks mentioned. And got everything back at least 2 weeks sooner than I expected.
