worked in my garage while insuletaing and sheet rocking up u til day befor this weekend, i disconected it from the tank, put it in the back of the truck.for the weekend of ice fishing, used the big house, not the sunflower, i get home wanna heat my garage for a bit, both head wont stay lit, odds of both thermocupler goi g out?? any sugestions??
-
go buy something better then a sunflower!!!!!!! them suck!!!!!
-
Odds are from inside to outside it now has moisture somewhere in the lines. Thermocouple doesn't normally "just stop" working. Blow out lines and heat heads first.
-
the main fuel line from were it scres into the tank and the channel to the head?
-
I would think Reb is right.
But I would check the connections where the thermocouples come together as well.
-

Yup. Metering orfice in valve head could have tad of moisture in it. Clean head; it (valve) and thermocouple with q-tip and rubbing alcohol. Bet it'll fire right up. Worked on a lot of these. (Make sure ya blow out any "fuzzies" from Qtips!)
-
cool thanks reby!!
-
Let us know if that works. Forgot to add make sure ya blow ceramic heat elements out, too. They do get a lot of dust in them.
-
blew up threw the neck, puff of sheet rock dust came out, did the other and a ljttle.came.out, tue head with the bigger puff is worki g the other not, needs a little more attention i think.

:happy1: And we wanna know when it's workin'.

1 head still don t work...
Glenn's? :rotflmao: Does yer heater have the double tip switch on it?
-
no silly goose, sunflower head, not muffinhead or his mushroomhead either.
-
hey Boar if ya can't get it going I have one.. If we can make it work I' d give a dang good deal... just got to figure how to get it to ya..
-
Well, some sunflowers DO have the tip switch.......have you tried cleaning the thermocouple tip off with EMERY cloth? You blew out the gas valve, right? The gas line; ie, no obstruction?
Turn on the gas, give it a second, and see if ya can smell the gas from that heads ceramic grid....if not, then the gas isn't making it that far. Bad valve, line, or goo somewhere....last resort, swap the thermocouples around...if that don't do it, ya got a one-headed sunflower!!!!
-
gas makes it to the head, i depress plunger gas is eminating, poof it lights, i hold for even up to 30.seconds, till head is yellow glowing, and tip of thermocupler is hot, i release and out it gose.
-
Like I said get rid if that sunflower, buy a decent heater. Sunflower heater suck.
-
mikey whats yur deal buddy im i terested.

I have a single burner sunflower that does the same thing.

The thermocouple actually creates a bit of electrical current, which then keeps gas valve open......I'd guess that thermocouple, or wire to it is broken, or valve is closing back up. (Obviously) Might be time to chuck it, depending on how much ya wanna tear it apart and put into it..................

Kinda like selling Glenn some new muffler bearings.... ;)
Thermocouple noun
ther·mo·cou·ple | \ˈthər-mə-ˌkə-pəl \
Definition of thermocouple
: a device for measuring temperature in which a pair of wires of dissimilar metals (such as copper and iron) are joined and the free ends of the wires are connected to an instrument (such as a voltmeter) that measures the difference in potential created at the junction of the two metals

one other thing I found out this year is that you shouldn't leave a 1 pounder tank hooked up to the sunflower heater when not in use.. I had mine in the back seat of my truck and the inside of the truck heated up and I heard a Pssssssss sound from the back seat. Next time I went to use the heater, it didn't work. I mentioned this to a friend and he had the same issue a while back.. Un hook the heater from any source of gas when no in use. It ruined my heater..
Glenn, I'm curious what other brand heater you use?
-
I have a big buddy and a couple other heaters. I don't remember what there called but I'll take a picture and post.

Here is the main heater o use for my spear house. I got 2 of them. Bought one at reeds in walker and one at fleet farm. They throw some serious heat.

Cripes! That thing off the space shuttle?! Ya need a flat bed to move it?!
-
Ain't that big.
-
Looks huge! 20 lb tank and hose hook up to it?
-
Yep think that plywood bottom is 10 by 10 if that. Maybe 8 by 8 inches sits about 12-14 inches high. Best part it's got a pilot lite don't turn tank off, you can shut the valve down, then next morning turn valve on and poof instant heat!
-
Huh! Never seen one of dose! :happy1:
-
I love it.
-
dems are great heaters!!!! :happy1: :happy1:

I believe its called a Nu Way heater. Or something like that. Had one in my old 6x8 house and it heated that up no problem. Still have two of them also, one's in the spearhouse and one in the garage sitting on a shelf.

The brand is Handi-Heater. Strikemaster used to make/sell them. I have the 20,000 BTU in my fish house. Also have the 15,000 BTU i originally put in the fish house that will be going in a small skid house when I build it. They were actually built by a guy in Wisconsin and sold thru Strikemaster until the guy that dealt with the propane quit. Then strike master quit dealing with them. Can't find them anymore except c-list once in a while. I have the thermostat control on the one in my big fish house. The nice thing about them is no electricity is needed to run them.
-
they are a darn good heater too!!!
-
Is this one of those?

-
no. kinda, but not really!!!!!!!!!! :doah: the gas part look similar, body not so much. mines smaller and has a gaurd around the part that gets hot/holds the heat element!
-
That might be nice to sit on and keep yer butt warm... ;)
-
Like Glenn said. Same design, but different brand.
-
Looks like it's up for grabs! :cheesy:

Remember some of the resorts had those on Mille Lacs when we'd do our college weekend excursions that way. A lot of cars didn't start but everyone stayed toasty inside! :happy1:
