Man there fun to watch this year. There never out of it and even if there down a guy feels they can come back.
That Rogers sure is fun to watch pitch.
On a side note, I am definitely a bandwagon guy. :rotflmao: :rotflmao:
They've already hit as many homers this year then they did all last year. They better start working on a lot of contract extension.

Same here GT, no bandwagon guy here. No shirts though! ;) :smiley: They had a little mini slump on the last road trip but are back playin like they did in May & most of June since they started the Texas series. Thought :scratch: I heard Bremer say that they hadn't won a series in Oakland in 8 though, years while they were playin them.

Still have two of the '87 Twins Wheaties boxes, two of the '91 Wheaties boxes, and the '91 Frosted Flakes ones with Tony the Tiger dressed as a Twin. Also the old TC hats, and the '87 and '91 champ hats. Should get rid of a few of those; don't need all of 'em.

My buddy Blue is a big fan. He finally got me watching this year. The wife and I are both enjoying it. I think being retired makes it easier to watch them too. Game at about 1 today too. May have to smoke something whilst we watch.

I come from a family of dedicated Twins fans. My parents, my grandparents, and even my great grandparents on my moms side have been Twins fans!
We've endured lots of bad years, great to see them playing so well this year. We were up at the cabin over the 4th and watched them play (on TV) both Thurs & Friday.

i watched the ends of the games. they where crazy, especially the middle game when Sano crushed that homerun to take the lead again.

Got to agree, Steve-o, but I'm not so sure that the teams they played the last couple of series didn't have quite a bit to do with it. Both teams are among the leaders in the league on striking out the least. Not sure what the hell happened with the Mets. :confused:

Yes, part of it is good hitting opponents, but we're also not seeing the best out of our pitchers lately. We keep hoping they'll revert back to the performances they had early on.
I do hope they make moves to add both starters and relievers, and not so much supposedly for the raw upgrade in talent, but rather to send a message to the pitching staff that the cavalry has arrived. Maybe they will all loosen up a bit and pitch better.

Me too!! :happy1: He's got a good fastball & a wicked curve when he's on, besides he's a lefty. It's very hard to have too many good lefthanded pitchers in the bullpen. 'Bout the only 1 they could really count on to close games for most of the last month. :cool:

You're spot on & I couldn't agree more about them signing some help for the starters & bullpen before the end of the month. For the last 4 or 5 starts Perez & Pineda have looked better to me than Odorizzi & Berrios. :scratch: :pouty: At least more consistent

Yeah, Reb, most weekends everybody plays. It's a lot easier to sell tickets for the weekends. Most are at least Fri-Sun, some are like the Twins this weekend Thur-Sun then a lot of teams have Monday off to travel.

Good win, Odorizzi struggled a bit especially late, bullpen was good though. It sounded like there was just about as many Twins fan at the game, when Buxton hit his HR, as Marlin fans. Kind of :cool: when they showed the 93 year old lady from Buffalo, Mn who flew down to see the game & has now seen 'em play in all 30 ballparks. Verlander struckout 13 Indians in 7 innings & the Astros beat Cleveland,2-0, so back up 3 :cheerleader:

Berrios was sharp again last night :happy1:. He went 7 innings, striking out 11 on only 81 pitches. Bullpen had some trouble at the start of their 2nd(9th) inning & they had to bring Rogers in to mop up with 7-4 being the final. Garver & Rosario did the most damage with their HR's. Sounded like a lot of Twins fans there again last night. It's a early game today, 11:10 1st pitch, as the twins are comin home for 10 games.

I'm glad the Twins did what they did and didn't do what they didn't do at the trade deadline.
Except I wish they would have signed starter Dallas Keuchel and/or reliever Craig Kimbrel for cash only. Only time will tell if the teams that signed them overpaid to the point where it hurts their franchises. But... its only money.
I'm glad they didn't trade any top prospects for starting pitching. I know a top major league pitcher is a "bird in the hand" and bunch of top minor league prospects are "birds in the bush." But if two or three of our four top prospects DO turn out to be major league talent, we they will be more valuable long term than having a good starting pitcher for a year or two.
I'm glad they did make upgrades to the bullpen.

I sure hope Dyson can pitch better than he did for us this afternoon. Yikes, three earned runs in the 9th without recording an out.
Maybe he's got a little jet lag trying to get to Miami after the trade? He didn't arrive until the 5th inning!
Pineda pitched another great game going 6 innings and only giving up one run! We never should have lost that game!

They were up 4-1 after the 8th inning when Duffy just barely squeaked out of & they brought in the new guy. He couldn't find the barn door so they brought Rogers in for the 3rd day in a row & he gave up the GW HR. :pouty: :sad: That's probably why they put Dyson in to begin with as they don't use relievers 3 days in row very often anymore. Back on the horse today though as they play the Braves @ 7:10 today at Target Field.

Wow! That was another :crazy: game, thought they were gonna blow it there for a while. Perez, Thorpe, & Dyson all had problems throwin the ball where they wanted but May & Romo picked 'em up for a 11-9 win. :happy1: The top of the order did just about all the damage with Cruz & Kepler responsible for most the runs. A hour earlier tonight with Gibson gettin the ball.

Yeah Perez gave up 5 all earned last night otherwise the starters had been good since they played the Yankees, 6-8 starts. I think they'd just about all been what they call "quality starts" these days. That's at least 6 innings & 3 or fewer runs.

Yeah, missed some of it myself :rolleyes: but caught the rest on the replay. ;D With the rain delay ( ~ 90 minutes) & the ceremony honoring Nathan, 1st pitch was more like 8 than 6.

It must've been a late decision to start Smeltzer instead of Odorizzi, bit of a odd game for the Twins lately in that it ended 3-0. :happy1: Rosario knocked in 2 & Castro had a solo HR. Tougher tests comin as it's Atlanta tomorrow & then Cleveland for 4 to wrap up the homestand. That's probably a big part of the reason IMO why they went with the young lefty today. :cool:

i have followed the twins this year more then i've ever ha, even the world series years. i followed the game on my phone looking at updates of the score. seen they where winning then tied. not so long ago you just new they'd blow it and lose.

I not so sure Steve-o :scratch:, I'm startin to be a fan of the :crazy: little guy we got from Miami too. He doesn't throw very hard but seems to be able to hit his spots with some wicked off speed breaking stuff. Hope he can keep it up, he's been around for a while & pitched in the playoffs before. Yeah, my bullpen implosion is probably too dramatic. But like Glenn, I used my phone to tune into the game in the 7th inning when Harper came in and gave up the lead. :doah: And Duffy didn't look like he was capable of stopping the bleeding either. :surrender: I'm glad May was ready. :happy1: And thank goodness for Sano last night. :bow:
I wasn't following the rest of the game, but is it too much to ask the starter to go one more inning? No, as a fan I need to trust the manager and the manager has to trust the players. Hopefully Odo came out of this came with his confidence restored.

Those 2 have been very inconsistent lately & are rarely asked to pitch to more than a batter or 2 anymore. Rogers has been good & he's the only 1 they could count on to close since the All Star break. Pretty much why they went after Romo & Dyson IMO. Ordorizzi threw a lot of pitches in the 1st 2 innings, think he was close to 50 as he was getting ahead in the count but he coudn't put 'em away. I'm not sure what his final pitch count was(~110) but it was the highest he's had all year. I didn't think he was going to make it through 5. Berrios tonight & your right we need at least 1 of the starters to go longer every week to take some of the stress off the bullpen. Lots of fun to watch as they're never out of the game the way they can score.

Yeah, after Cruz hit the home run I said, "Good for him," and turned it off. I was pleased to hear that they put up 7 before the game was over. This team doesn't quit, but when you give up 6 in an inning, they make it hard on themselves.

Completely agree, we almost were swept. That one win was only because of a 2 out, pinch hit, 2 run homer by Sano.

Their 1st 3, Acuna, Albies, & Freeman were human wrecking balls all series. :crazy: Today alone they had 5 RBI's & scored 5 too. Twins aren't the only team those 3 have put the hurt on this season, won't be the last either.

Twins had 2-3 chances to make both the games they lost a lot closer as they left men on base in scoring position but didn't get the big 2 out hit. Not really their fault either as they hit the ball hard several times but the Braves D made the play to take the hit away. Big series startin today & they need to at least split, that would be 6 wins out of 10 for the home stand.

I was frustrated and decided to mow the lawn shortly after we had just made it 4-2 and then Gibby walks the first two batters that he faces in the next inning. I came back in the house and it was 6-5 in the 8th so was glad to see us battling.

Yup, Lee, yer right! I'm jumping OFF the band wagon. In typical Minnesota fashion, I'd rather be right than enjoy our first real pennant race in over a decade. Cleveland's pitching is better than ours and they added just enough hitting to put them over the top. Cleveland is hot and on the rise and the Twins are ice cold with major holes in the starting rotation and bullpen. The one pitcher we added appears to be damaged goods. I'm throwin in the towel.
P.S. I WILL be back IF they do get this figured out. :rotflmao:

Another exciting finish & this time the good guys won. Twins 7, Brewers 5! :happybounce: Harper had just given up a 4-1 lead in the 7th when Rosario & Sano got on base ahead of Gonzaiez who crushed the 1st pitch from the Brewers closer. :cool: In came Dyson, fresh off the IL yday, for a smooth 8th with Romo following him in the 9th. Romo struggled a bit with his last 2 batters but was able to make the big pitch when he needed too. :bow: Cleveland lost to the Red Sox in 10 innings too. :happy1:

It was great to have Perez battle thru 6 innings and only give up one run! Marwin's homerun was huge! Great to see both Dyson and Romo pitch well and give Rodgers a break! Hopefully we can put together a few wins and have the Indian's drop a few. Exciting times, but I don't know if I can handle the stress of this playoff race for another month and a half. :)

Romo gave up a 3 run homer after a routine throwing error by Polanco and a weakly hit ball made it thru the infield to put the two runners on base. Romo even had the Brewer hitter down 0-2 in the count when he hit the 3 run homer.

Perez struggled with his start too, only goin 5, but he kept them in the game & in that heat, seen 117 heat index, was a good job. Everyone out of the bullpen struggled a little but was able to make the big pitch when they needed. :happybounce: That was a big play Romo made with his glove in his inning. :applause: Back home tomorrow for the White Sox & Tigers. :cheerleader:

It was nice to see the Indian's lose a rain shortened game last night to the Mets while the Twins had an off day. You got to love when they increase the division lead without playing.
Hopefully we can play a good series vs Detroit and the Indian's struggle vs. the Royals.

Good 7-4 win today! Perez pitches well and got his 9th win of the year! Cron hit a 3- Run homer, Schoop hit a 2-Run homer. We saved the main bullpen arms by using two rookies to pitch the 7th, 8th, & 9th. Off day tomorrow then we head to Chicago to face the White Sox.
Bonus...Indians lost to KC so we gain another game (up 3 1/2 now)!

Forgot to mention it earlier but I heard Bremer bring it up a couple times yday, Buxton was sent down to Cedar Rapids on a rehab assignment on Saturday. He was their DH for part of the game yday & had a double in his 1st at bat. :cool: They play again today & he looks to be in the starting lineup. :happy1: Bremer went on to say that he wouldn't be surprised, that if everything went good for him there, to see him join the team in Chicago on Tuesday. I'd really like to see 'em get both Buxton & Rosario back before they play Cleveland again at the beginning of the next homestand. Rosario had the flu yday & I didn't think his injury was too bad so he may be back soon too.

A nice win last night as they didn't need to score 6-8 runs to get it, 3-1, the way Pineda & the bullpen pitched. :happy1: Duffey did struggle a bit, giving up a couple hits, in his inning but they got out of it without any runs scoring. :cool: Solo homers by Gonzalez & Schoop early with Rosario adding an RBI in the 8th. Good to see Eddie back, sounds like Buxton had a little set back on his rehab, & Gonzalez got dinged some late last night. Should know more on Buxton & Gonzalez today. :cheerleader:

Couldn't watch anymore after 6 straight hits by the Tigers, so I went out :fishing:. It was 7 or 8 to 2 then & ended up 10-7 Twins lose. A couple errors helped fuel that rally. The good news :rolleyes: is they broke the HR record later in the game & Cleveland lost too.

A 2 run HR by Adrianza in the 2nd inning & a 2 run bases loaded single, both with 2 out, by Kepler(8th) were key to the win. Off day today, hope they get a couple more guys healthy as we've got the Nationals comin to town tomorrow. Need to get the bats rollin again. I always wonder how pro athlete team mates feel when one of they guys gets popped for steroids/masking agents, like Pineda.
They always say the right thing in the press, but what are they really thinking.
Do they feel betrayed?
Or do they have a greater understanding of what it takes to stay on the field - even if it means running the risk of using steroids for a time?

I'd imagine it's like any other sport...a team mate purposely does something they know they shouldn't, like run illegal tires/pull a restrictor plate out/ add rear weight, etc, and gets caught, blows it for the whole team. :angry: We had one guy on our football team that kept making dirty hits, and cost us a game thru a forfeit once...and that was the end of him.

Guess we'll find out today if Buxton is done for the season as he was scheduled to see a specialist out in Calif. yday. If he deemed surgery was necessary it was supposed to be done yday. A strange start time for todays game, 6:40 1st pitch with Berrios gettin the ball. They had a lot of offers for him after the last year he had in AAA, just about everybody wanted him. We would've never been able to hold on to Syndergard for more than 2-3 seasons IMO anyway, Reb. Those guys get big $ :crazy:, more that the Twins are willin to pay usually.

Don't get me wrong, I like Buck but he has struggled every year with injuries. It's awesome to see him make spectacular plays on defense, but he needs to have less collisions with the wall (play a little more conservative) if he is ever going to live up to his full potential and make it through a whole season. He is an exciting player! He scares the competition with his speed and defense! The hype when he was in the minors was as much as Mike Trout or maybe more, but he hasn't had the opportunity to live up to it because of being too aggressive on defense and getting injured.

Twins lost 6-2 as Strasburg pitched another strong game, he's leading the NL in wins(17) this season. We had a few chances but couldn't get the big hit like Kendrick & Zimmerman did for them. Lead is now 4 games. On a high note, I heard Bremer mention the guys sittin out & he seemed to think some of them could be back today or tomorrow. I'd really like to see Cruz get his swing back soon too. Like this weekend in Cleveland. :cheerleader:

Wow! Carrasco got the benefit of the doubt on several pitches in the top of the 5th. Tough to compete when the ump spots the pitcher couple strikes that are well out of the strike zone. The Arraez at bat was particularly pathetic. :sad:

Vegas seems to think it's going to be Astros vs Dodgers in the WS. Not sure :scratch: anybody can match up with Houston's starters. The Twins start a 4 game home series vs the Royals tonight, then head to Detroit for 3 games, and end the season with a 3 game series at KC.
The Indians have one of the toughest schedules for their remaining games. They have 3 games vs the Phillies, 3 games at the White Sox (which the White Sox have won 9 of 16 games vs the tribe this year) and end the season with 3 games at the Nationals.
I like our odds of winning the division!

The AL playoffs are set, with the WC game, Rays vs A's, on Wednesday in Oakland. The Twins series will start on Friday & Saturday in NY, Monday's game is at Target Field. The WC winner will play the Astros in Houston on Friday & Saturday as well, travelin on Sunday too. Go Twins!! :cheerleader:

Pretty curious :scratch: to see what roster moves, 'specially with the young pitchers, they do for this round of the playoffs. I think Dobnak will make it as he's been good starting for 'em lately, Smeltzer had a good game early this year against NY & Littel has been good in the bullpen as of late so I think they'll all be in. That leaves Thorpe, Graterol, Romero for about the last spot as I don't think they will include Gibson.

Cheese and rice! I just sold a whole lamb the other day (~60# worth of meat) for $3.30 a pound, processed and delivered! Yupper, with shish keboobs anyway. Takes a little forward planning but that usually just means more gin is consumed in the meantime. We marinated some lamb chops for about 3 days in wine & Cavenders at the cabin a few weeks ago so you can about imagine how much it took for that process... :rotflmao: And to stay on topic we were able to livestream the Twinkies via YouTube TV. :happy1:

Was thinkin the same then Dotch. :tut: :bs: We had some other good chances but they couldn't get it done. :thumbs: :pouty: :sad:. This is hard for me to say, kind of like agreein with you know who, but NY just played better this series. Their starters were better & so was their bullpen. Even their defense & especially their bats bats in the clutch went right for them. Still was an awesome season for the Twins :cheerleader::cool: & if you'd told me in April that they'd take the division with 100 wins I'd probably called you. :crazy:

Yes, this season was more than we hoped for. The success probably surprised the front office guys too. We'll see if they can build on it for next year.
Trouble is that while they were building to beat the teams in our division, they weren't built to beat the best teams in baseball. You have to have some semblance of starting pitching, and they had far too little of that.
But it was a good run. Hopefully we'll have fewer injuries next year, retain some key guys, find some starting pitching, and make it a little farther next year - and beat 'dem Damn Yankees!

Yankees had a lot of injuries too, more than just about anyone else, but the timing of those injuries played a part in how this series went IMO. They were pretty healthy at the end of the regular season & we had a few key guys go down. :sad: Not much can be done about that. :pouty: Some starting pitcher depth, another quality lefty in the bull pen, & holding on to most, if not all, of the FA's they signed this season would be a very good start on next year. :cool:

I see where they have an option on Cruz & Perez for next season & that would be a great place to start. Your right though, that's a lot of guys to give raises to & I don't think they will be able to. Falvey & Levine are going to have a busy off season, that's for sure. The way the game has went, I see the price of good relievers going up quite a bit & I'm hopin we can get a couple of the young guys who came up at the end to work out there. I heard Smoltz say towards the end of the game that he thought that Graterol would be better suited as a starter for next year. :scratch: Lots of questions to be answered & interesting to see how much $ the Pohlads are willing to spend to try to win. :confused:

Kepler and Polanco are the only guys locked up to long term deals. Everyone else (literally) is up for Free Agency, eligible for Arbitration, or not signed.

Yeah, you probably don't want to keep all of those guys, but that is also a lot of players to give raises to.
My guess is Castro, Schoop, Romo, are not coming back.
They will probably offer Odorizzi a multi year deal to come back. Both Pineda and Gibson might get offered something around what they were paid this past season to return on short term deals.
Sano, Buxton, Rogers, May, and Berrios will all be back next year on arbitration or new deals like Kepler & Polanco did this past spring. Adrianza will depend on price.
What about Cron?

I'd love to see Romo back but I don't think they'll want to pay him what he can get elswhere. Liked Schoop too as he had some big games for 'em but Arraez will most likely take that job. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cron back as they picked him up on waivers so his deal wasn't a lot of $. With him being hurt towards the end & not playing a lot I'm not sure :scratch: how many other teams will be interested. Hope so!

I think Sano's future is at 1st base if he plays a position or DH. I am hopeful they will fix Cron's thumb.
Between Sano, Cron, and Cruz... do you think they keep all 3? I hope so.
They say Cruz had a positive influence on Sano. I'd like to see Sano's improvement cemented with one more year under Cruz's wing. If they don't resign Cruz, I'd be afraid Sano would lapse back into old habits.
